WEBVTT NOTE Podcast: Acts 29 Vancouver Episode: Wilderness Forty – Ecdysis Publishing Date: 2020-09-06T06:00:44-07:00 Podcast URL: https://acts29.ca Episode URL: https://acts29.ca/wilderness-forty-ecdysis/ 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.400 So today we talk about something called, most of us haven't heard this word before and it's 00:00:09.400 --> 00:00:29.360 not Greek, pronounced, exusis, which is not a Greek word, it's not found in the Bible. 00:00:29.360 --> 00:00:32.360 I thought why not act a little educated. 00:00:32.360 --> 00:00:35.920 Exusis, wilderness 40, today's title is exusis. 00:00:35.920 --> 00:00:39.200 Exusis is the process of molting. 00:00:39.200 --> 00:00:44.680 It's the process of molting, a shedding of the old to fully reveal the new. 00:00:44.680 --> 00:00:49.520 We talked about how the Holy Spirit has led us into the desert, the Holy Spirit led us 00:00:49.520 --> 00:00:56.640 into the desert so that we may have a greater revelation of God, so that we may return with 00:00:56.640 --> 00:01:05.240 power and so that we may be ready to restore desolate heritages and prove ourselves an 00:01:05.240 --> 00:01:11.240 essential service in the post-COVID landscape that awaits. 00:01:11.240 --> 00:01:12.920 That is the intent of wilderness 40. 00:01:12.920 --> 00:01:20.240 And today we talk about this word, exusis, which is basically this idea or the process 00:01:20.240 --> 00:01:29.080 of molting or a shedding of the old to fully reveal the new. 00:01:29.080 --> 00:01:36.960 It is not taking on the new, it is shedding the old so that the new may be revealed. 00:01:36.960 --> 00:01:41.920 And you see a lot of desert creatures that go through this process where they shed an 00:01:41.920 --> 00:01:44.360 old skin and then the new emerges. 00:01:44.360 --> 00:01:49.680 It's not that the new wasn't there, it is that the old had to be shed. 00:01:49.680 --> 00:01:53.080 And so molting is necessary for both growth and transformation. 00:01:53.080 --> 00:01:56.000 In the case of a butterfly, it's required for transformation. 00:01:56.000 --> 00:02:01.600 You literally have to shed the old cocoon to emerge as a butterfly. 00:02:01.600 --> 00:02:05.960 So molting is necessary for both growth and transformation. 00:02:05.960 --> 00:02:11.120 And strangely enough, the way it takes place or what happens is there's an intake of water 00:02:11.120 --> 00:02:14.360 and an intake of air and it splits the old covering. 00:02:14.800 --> 00:02:20.440 I'm drawing parallels here, but one of the easiest ways for us to molt, as in shed what 00:02:20.440 --> 00:02:25.600 is old and come into the new, is to engage in an intake of water, and I'm comparing 00:02:25.600 --> 00:02:30.200 that to the word, and an intake of air, which I'm comparing to the Holy Spirit who is known 00:02:30.200 --> 00:02:33.680 as Numa or Rua, so that the outer covering breaks. 00:02:33.680 --> 00:02:38.520 But unfortunately, in most of our lives, this process is unfinished. 00:02:38.560 --> 00:02:45.000 In most of our lives, both sitting here and in Christianity in general, this process of 00:02:45.000 --> 00:02:50.360 molting is unfinished and so it traps us between two spiritual phases. 00:02:50.360 --> 00:02:56.760 So half of us is new, half of us is still stuck in the old because the molting is incomplete. 00:02:56.760 --> 00:03:01.200 And so today what I want to talk about is, okay, in the desert, before we come out, is 00:03:01.200 --> 00:03:10.520 it possible to once and for all shed the old to fully reveal the new? 00:03:10.520 --> 00:03:13.600 Shed the old to fully reveal the new? 00:03:13.600 --> 00:03:18.480 That's what we'd be talking about. 00:03:18.480 --> 00:03:27.520 Guys, it's a shame that my mind identifies more with my old self even though it no longer 00:03:27.520 --> 00:03:28.880 lives. 00:03:28.880 --> 00:03:39.400 It is a shame that my mind identifies more with my old self even though it actually no 00:03:39.400 --> 00:03:40.400 longer lives. 00:03:40.400 --> 00:03:47.560 Galatians 2, verse 20 and 21 says, I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. 00:03:47.560 --> 00:03:54.000 Yet more often than not on a daily basis, on a weekly basis, it's a shame that my mind 00:03:55.000 --> 00:03:58.560 more with my old self when it no longer lives. 00:03:58.560 --> 00:04:02.400 In actuality, I must identify myself completely with Christ. 00:04:02.400 --> 00:04:17.920 In actuality, I must identify completely with Christ. 00:04:17.920 --> 00:04:19.360 But I don't. 00:04:19.400 --> 00:04:29.520 I find it easier to identify with the old self, with the old Jacob. 00:04:29.520 --> 00:04:36.360 When I say identify with Christ, identify with what about Christ? 00:04:36.360 --> 00:04:42.840 Identify with the fact that he is perfect in all his ways. 00:04:42.840 --> 00:04:48.800 Identify with the fact that he is amazingly holy. 00:04:48.800 --> 00:04:57.160 Identify with the fact that he is the image of God, the radiant image of God. 00:04:57.160 --> 00:05:08.280 Identify with the fact that he is intimately located in the Father's perfect love. 00:05:08.280 --> 00:05:15.120 Identify with the fact that he is located in the Father's presence. 00:05:15.120 --> 00:05:18.120 Identify with the fact that he is at the Father's right hand. 00:05:18.120 --> 00:05:20.040 So let's look at all what we said. 00:05:20.040 --> 00:05:23.280 We said, one, he is perfect in all his ways. 00:05:23.280 --> 00:05:29.400 These are the things we are identifying with, perfect or righteous in all his ways. 00:05:29.400 --> 00:05:35.680 We said he's amazingly holy. 00:05:35.680 --> 00:05:46.160 We said he is the radiant image of God. 00:05:46.600 --> 00:05:53.840 We said that he is intimately located in the Father. 00:05:55.400 --> 00:06:02.880 We said he is intimately located in the love of the Father, the perfect love of the Father. 00:06:02.880 --> 00:06:07.860 We said he's intimately located in the perfect love and presence of the Father. 00:06:07.860 --> 00:06:15.300 We said he's intimately located in the perfect love and presence of the father at his right hand. 00:06:15.300 --> 00:06:19.680 other things, just some of the things that I could immediately think of that 00:06:19.680 --> 00:06:25.880 we need to identify with. Because if we did identify with these things then you 00:06:25.880 --> 00:06:31.840 would find that you no longer are continuing to hold on to old skin which 00:06:31.840 --> 00:06:35.640 should have molted by now but in most Christians cases and in all our cases I 00:06:35.640 --> 00:06:42.440 would say to you it hasn't molted. If I began to identify with Christ I would 00:06:42.440 --> 00:06:48.320 find that huh it's not too often that I think of myself really as perfect or 00:06:48.320 --> 00:06:51.800 righteous I only do that occasionally when I'm singing or when it's an 00:06:51.800 --> 00:06:59.360 absolute need. I would not see myself as amazingly holy and yet Galatians 2.20 says 00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:03.360 I no longer live I have been crucified with Christ I no longer live but Christ 00:07:03.360 --> 00:07:11.480 lives in me. I rarely see myself as the image of God. I rarely see myself as 00:07:11.480 --> 00:07:17.120 being intimately located with the Father intimately in his presence 00:07:17.120 --> 00:07:23.280 intimately at his right hand intimately in his perfect love the same privileges 00:07:23.280 --> 00:07:30.080 that Jesus enjoys are actually mine. This is not how we think. It is not how we 00:07:30.080 --> 00:07:34.360 think. If we thought like this our worship our prayers our attitudes with 00:07:34.360 --> 00:07:39.080 sin our attitudes towards righteousness our attitudes towards each other's our 00:07:39.080 --> 00:07:45.360 emotions our interests would be so radically different than what it is 00:07:45.360 --> 00:07:50.760 right now but somehow we are caught between these two spiritual phases one 00:07:50.760 --> 00:07:57.800 of the new and one of the old and it leaves us neither here nor there and if 00:07:57.800 --> 00:08:01.880 I'm going to return from this desert I want to return having taken care of this 00:08:01.880 --> 00:08:07.400 so that my mind is thinking a certain way and is going towards the default of 00:08:07.400 --> 00:08:13.680 thinking a certain way. Is this how you think of yourself? So if you go to Ephesians 4 verse 22 to 24 and let's just read it 00:09:04.160 --> 00:09:18.320 from the passion version Ephesians 4 22 to 24 see what it says 00:09:24.800 --> 00:09:33.000 Ephesians 4 22 to 24 and he has taught you to let go of the lifestyle of the 00:09:33.000 --> 00:09:39.120 ancient man the old self life which was corrupted by sinful and deceitful 00:09:39.120 --> 00:09:45.680 desires that spring from delusions. Now it's time to be made new by every 00:09:45.680 --> 00:09:51.400 revelation that's been given to you and to be transformed as you embrace the 00:09:51.400 --> 00:09:58.360 glorious Christ within as your new life and live in union with him for God has 00:09:58.360 --> 00:10:02.880 recreated you all over again in his perfect righteousness and you now 00:10:02.880 --> 00:10:08.680 belong to him in the realm of true holiness. So my new self and it's a real 00:10:08.680 --> 00:10:20.440 new self it actually exists my new self is actually created as in recreated when 00:10:20.440 --> 00:10:27.400 I got born again my new self was recreated and has therefore the 00:10:27.400 --> 00:10:32.160 righteousness or the right standing or the right ways or the perfect ways of 00:10:32.160 --> 00:10:42.240 God it has the holiness of God and it is made it's renewed in the image or the 00:10:42.240 --> 00:10:58.760 nature of the creator or another word for this would be likeness. This is who 00:10:58.760 --> 00:11:12.640 I really am. This is who I really am. Pastors may remind you you are not I may 00:11:12.640 --> 00:11:16.100 remind you you are not you may remind yourself you're not your spouse may 00:11:16.100 --> 00:11:20.040 remind you you are not the world may remind you you're not when you look in 00:11:20.040 --> 00:11:23.960 a mirror you may be reminded that you're not your present conduct and behavior 00:11:23.960 --> 00:11:32.040 does not seem to carry this through but in reality in terms of who I actually am 00:11:32.040 --> 00:11:41.280 my new self which God recreated when I got born again has righteousness has 00:11:41.280 --> 00:11:52.040 holiness and has the very likeness of God this is truly who I am. If I don't 00:11:52.040 --> 00:11:56.360 believe and embrace what has happened to me and I have not yet I have these 00:11:56.360 --> 00:12:04.440 moments when I do. Strange thing is I only think like this after having sinned 00:12:04.440 --> 00:12:11.120 if I thought like this before I sinned I would not sin but I think like this 00:12:11.120 --> 00:12:15.760 after I've sinned so that I can make myself feel better. This was not a feel 00:12:15.760 --> 00:12:19.640 better clause that God added this was a this is who you are clause that God 00:12:19.640 --> 00:12:27.680 added. If I don't begin to embrace and believe what has happened to me and who 00:12:27.680 --> 00:12:32.520 I have become in Christ then life will be pockmarked with guilt and accusation 00:12:32.520 --> 00:12:41.080 and insecurity. If I don't believe and embrace what has happened to me and who 00:12:41.080 --> 00:12:46.840 I have become in Jesus Christ and by Christ then my life will be pockmarked 00:12:47.320 --> 00:12:55.240 by guilt by accusations of the enemy of myself of people around me and of 00:12:55.240 --> 00:12:59.880 insecurity because it is very hard sometimes to stand before God without 00:12:59.880 --> 00:13:12.280 being who he has made you. The passion version of verse 23 in Ephesians says 00:13:12.280 --> 00:13:19.000 now it is time to be made new by every revelation that's been given to you. I 00:13:19.000 --> 00:13:25.480 would suggest to you that this teaching is not is an old revelation that can 00:13:25.480 --> 00:13:29.680 make you new. This teaching is an old revelation there's nothing new. This has 00:13:29.680 --> 00:13:35.160 been in the Bible for centuries. It's an old revelation that can make you new by 00:13:35.160 --> 00:13:39.160 having you think a certain way and I pray God that over the span of the next ten 00:13:39.160 --> 00:13:46.320 days that you really attempt to make this your default way of thinking. It is 00:13:46.320 --> 00:13:51.400 not that you aren't already new it is that you need to molt and leave the old 00:13:51.400 --> 00:13:56.120 skin behind in the desert before you come out of the wilderness into a post 00:13:56.120 --> 00:14:08.680 covid landscape. The thing with revelation is guys if you just write it 00:14:08.680 --> 00:14:14.240 down and don't begin to ask the Holy Spirit to let it sink deep revelation 00:14:14.240 --> 00:14:20.680 turns into information. The thing with revelation is once it is received you 00:14:20.680 --> 00:14:25.640 have to then begin to think it you have to play around with it, dig into it, 00:14:25.640 --> 00:14:32.300 ponder on it, meditate on it, find out scriptures that support it. That is how 00:14:32.300 --> 00:14:36.040 revelation becomes flesh the word becomes flesh otherwise the word becomes 00:14:36.040 --> 00:14:40.520 knowledge and knowledge becomes information and it puffs up and so it's 00:14:40.520 --> 00:14:49.280 good for a sermon. So my question is why can't I inhale and exhale the righteous 00:14:49.280 --> 00:14:54.520 life I already possess? Why is it that I'm not inhaling and exhaling the 00:14:54.520 --> 00:14:59.360 righteous life I already possess? Why is it that I can't hear his 00:14:59.360 --> 00:15:05.160 life-giving I am pleased with you son voice? Why is it that I'm always striving 00:15:05.160 --> 00:15:10.480 to be righteous and always striving to please him? Why is it that it's always a 00:15:10.480 --> 00:15:14.600 cart before the horse? Why is it that Jacob is always striving to be righteous 00:15:14.600 --> 00:15:19.720 and always striving to please him? Why is it instead that Jacob can't inhale and 00:15:19.720 --> 00:15:24.720 exhale the righteousness that he already possesses and the life-giving I am 00:15:24.720 --> 00:15:34.200 pleased with you son voice that is always hovering over his head? I mean 00:15:34.200 --> 00:15:38.720 wouldn't it be more natural than striving to be righteous and pleasing? If 00:15:38.720 --> 00:15:43.160 I'm already something wouldn't it be natural to live that out? 00:15:50.280 --> 00:15:55.760 Whenever truth takes deep root in your life, whenever you clear the undergrowth 00:15:55.760 --> 00:16:02.600 and you allow truth to take deep root in your life then you will find that weeds 00:16:02.600 --> 00:16:10.280 struggle to grow. At some point I remember in my life 00:16:24.960 --> 00:16:30.600 the undergrowth with regard to sickness and disease was cleared and this truth 00:16:30.600 --> 00:16:37.960 took deep root that Jesus Christ heals and he loves healing. He's Yahweh Rafa and 00:16:37.960 --> 00:16:43.400 you can trust him to heal you every time. At some point in the first year of my 00:16:43.400 --> 00:16:48.720 Christian life it took deep root and when it took deep root the weeds of 00:16:48.720 --> 00:16:55.520 disease and sickness now find for the last 31-32 years very hard to grow. 00:16:55.520 --> 00:17:00.360 Somewhere in the first two years of my life as a believer here is a truth that 00:17:00.360 --> 00:17:05.840 took deep root that God is before anything else a father, that he is your 00:17:05.840 --> 00:17:11.440 Abba, that he is your father. Relate to him as father Jacob and you will solve a 00:17:11.440 --> 00:17:16.400 major portion of your life in that one truth being embedded deeply in your heart 00:17:16.400 --> 00:17:20.920 and somehow along the line by the grace of God it happened and it has been one 00:17:20.920 --> 00:17:25.120 of the most powerful truths in my life that God is father and it is seen in my 00:17:25.120 --> 00:17:28.840 conversations, in my leading, in my worship, in my teaching it'll come across 00:17:28.840 --> 00:17:35.240 again and again. Why? Because now the weeds of servitude or not being a son or 00:17:35.320 --> 00:17:45.120 God being sovereign and like a flippant or doing whatever he wants without being 00:17:45.120 --> 00:17:52.880 a father is gone forever. If this truth takes deep root the weeds of an 00:18:02.680 --> 00:18:09.800 old self will struggle to grow. No this life that you see me living in 00:20:29.040 --> 00:20:35.320 its essence it's not mine it is the life of the anointed one who actually lives 00:20:35.320 --> 00:20:40.480 through me and therefore we live in union Jesus and I live in union as one. 00:20:40.480 --> 00:20:49.320 It would be like say Aaron selling his house for 200 bucks or 2,000 bucks or a 00:20:49.320 --> 00:20:52.800 thousand bucks. Let's say Aaron sells his house for a thousand bucks and he comes 00:20:52.800 --> 00:20:58.320 and buys my apartment for a hundred bucks and then even though the apartment 00:20:58.320 --> 00:21:02.760 belongs to him he gives me the keys to the apartment and says it's yours I've 00:21:02.760 --> 00:21:06.200 bought it for you even though the title deed is mine here it's yours and by the 00:21:06.200 --> 00:21:10.440 way I sold mine for a thousand so here's a 900 extra that I got that's yours too 00:21:10.440 --> 00:21:14.160 and then having done that he stands on the outside and he doesn't come in and 00:21:14.160 --> 00:21:20.120 he waits for me to let him in and if I do he now begins to live with me and we 00:21:20.120 --> 00:21:27.120 live in union in the house that he bought by paying off by selling off his 00:21:27.120 --> 00:21:31.260 house. It's literally like that it is someone who has bought me and then having 00:21:31.260 --> 00:21:35.660 bought me given me the keys to my house even though he holds the title deed and 00:21:35.660 --> 00:21:40.300 then stand outside and knock and said can I come in and if he comes in 00:21:40.300 --> 00:21:45.380 then he and I begin to live in union. That's how this works but we live in 00:21:45.380 --> 00:21:51.180 union Jesus and I live in union as one which is why sin grieves which is why 00:21:51.180 --> 00:21:57.620 any collision with sin impacts him which is also why I can draw now from the only 00:21:57.620 --> 00:22:02.100 life I actually possess and begin to reflect his interest his emotions his 00:22:02.100 --> 00:22:09.340 attitudes. You have to wrap your head around this because if you don't you 00:22:09.340 --> 00:22:14.780 will never be able to escape the part of the old skin that will stick to you 00:22:14.780 --> 00:22:22.220 forever. It's like a creature that has old mold stuck to him forever. You can't 00:22:22.220 --> 00:22:29.020 shake it off because you never did it when we begin. It's a terrible way to live 00:22:29.020 --> 00:22:35.780 and we live more than half the day. Part of the weaponry in 2nd Corinthians 10 is to pull out pull down 00:26:30.220 --> 00:26:35.860 strongholds yes but part of the weaponry in 2nd Corinthians 10 is also so that 00:26:35.860 --> 00:26:42.380 you would pull down some of these strongholds in your own life.
