We know God is a healer, but now let's talk about why does He heal? 00:00:07.000 --> 00:00:17.000 As you get this, it'll give you such confidence, it'll give you such an expectation, which is partly why I wanted to talk about it. 00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:27.000 Because we're talking about Showtime. Showtime, which is our God-given theme this year, is a desire to display His nature, 00:00:27.000 --> 00:00:37.000 an expectancy to see manifestation of His power, and an ability to learn how to hear His voice better. 00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:41.000 We will show God in our midst. That's why we call it Showtime. 00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:51.000 And so understanding why does God heal can really encourage you in terms of, oh shucks, there are so many good reasons why God heals. 00:00:51.000 --> 00:00:57.000 It'll really lift you up. So let's just talk about that. You'll need your Bibles quite a lot today. 00:00:57.000 --> 00:01:01.000 So let's go. Why does God heal? 00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:11.000 One of the reasons He heals you is because He likes honoring faith, and He likes honoring your request. 00:01:11.000 --> 00:01:16.000 One of the reasons He heals you is because He likes honoring faith. 00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:25.000 He likes honoring faith, and He likes honoring your request. 00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:35.000 That's one of the reasons He heals. He's a God who honors your faith and who honors your request. 00:01:35.000 --> 00:01:40.000 Go to James 5, 14-16. 00:01:43.000 --> 00:01:45.000 James 5, 14-16. 00:01:45.000 --> 00:01:48.000 James 5, 14-16, after Hebrews. 00:01:51.000 --> 00:02:00.000 And it says there that, is any of you in trouble, he should pray. He should call the elders of the church to pray over him. 00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:09.000 Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 00:02:09.000 --> 00:02:17.000 Is any of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:24.000 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well, and the Lord will raise him up. 00:02:24.000 --> 00:02:29.000 One of the reasons God likes healing is because He likes honoring faith. 00:02:29.000 --> 00:02:35.000 The prayer of faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. 00:02:35.000 --> 00:02:39.000 This is one of the reasons He heals. God heals because he likes giving you your request. 00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:35.000 Mark 7, Mark 7, 32 to 35, Mark 7, 32 to 35. 00:04:41.000 --> 00:04:49.000 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of Decapolis. 00:04:50.000 --> 00:04:57.000 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him to place his hand on the man. 00:04:57.000 --> 00:05:08.000 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him, pleaded with him, requested him to place his hand on the man. 00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:13.000 After he took him aside away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man's ear. 00:05:13.000 --> 00:05:16.000 Then he spit and touched the man's tongue. 00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:23.000 He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, Ephatah, which means be open. 00:05:23.000 --> 00:05:29.000 At this the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosened, and he began to speak plainly. 00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:34.000 Jesus gave them what they asked for. 00:05:34.000 --> 00:05:43.000 One of the reasons God heals is because you make a request you ask, and therefore because you've asked, he heals. 00:05:44.000 --> 00:05:47.000 What a wonderful God this is. 00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:50.000 He said, Ephatah, be open. Immediately his ears were opened. 00:05:50.000 --> 00:05:57.000 Go to Mark 9, Mark 9, 22-27. 00:06:02.000 --> 00:06:05.000 Jesus asked the boy's father, how long has he been like this? 00:06:05.000 --> 00:06:11.000 From childhood he answered, it has often thrown him into the fire or water to kill him, but if you can do anything, 00:06:11.000 --> 00:06:14.000 take pity on us and help us. If you can, said Jesus. 00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:17.000 Everything is possible for him who believes. 00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:22.000 Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, I do believe me, help me overcome my unbelief. 00:06:22.000 --> 00:06:26.000 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. 00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:30.000 You deaf and mute spirit, he said, I command you come out of him and never enter him again. 00:06:30.000 --> 00:06:33.000 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. 00:06:33.000 --> 00:06:36.000 The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said he's dead, 00:06:37.000 --> 00:06:41.000 but Jesus took him by his hand and lifted him to his feet and he stood up. 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:47.000 Why did Jesus heal this boy? Because his father came and asked, saying, my boy is in trouble. 00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:51.000 The father didn't even have enough faith to believe, but he asked. 00:06:51.000 --> 00:06:57.000 God sometimes heals because he wants to honor your faith or honor your asking or request. 00:06:58.000 --> 00:07:07.000 The second reason God heals is he wants to expose or display his attributes. 00:07:17.000 --> 00:07:20.000 He wants to expose or display his attributes. 00:07:20.000 --> 00:07:34.000 What in your opinion is the most obvious attribute in healing that is displayed? 00:07:37.000 --> 00:07:43.000 Mark 1 verse 41 and 42. You're not wrong Diana. Mark 1, 41 and 42. 00:07:51.000 --> 00:07:55.000 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees. 00:07:55.000 --> 00:07:58.000 If you're willing, you can make me clean. 00:07:58.000 --> 00:08:07.000 Filled with anger, Jesus reached out his hand. No, filled with compassion. 00:08:07.000 --> 00:08:13.000 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. I am willing, he said, be clean. 00:08:13.000 --> 00:08:16.000 Immediately the leprosy left him. 00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:20.000 Matthew 20 verse 34. 00:08:22.000 --> 00:08:26.000 Father, please heal this mic in Jesus name. 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:29.000 Matthew 20, 34. 00:08:32.000 --> 00:08:34.000 Matthew 20, 34. 00:08:35.000 --> 00:08:37.000 Is there a 34? Yeah. 00:08:37.000 --> 00:08:40.000 Jesus stopped, starting at verse 29. 00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:48.000 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 00:08:48.000 --> 00:08:53.000 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, 00:08:53.000 --> 00:08:56.000 Lord, son of David, have mercy on us. 00:08:56.000 --> 00:09:00.000 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet but they shouted all the louder. 00:09:00.000 --> 00:09:03.000 Lord, son of David, have mercy on us. Jesus stopped them and called them. 00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:06.000 What do you want me to do for you? He asked. Lord, they answered. 00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:15.000 We want our sight. Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. 00:09:15.000 --> 00:09:18.000 Immediately they received their sight and followed him. 00:09:18.000 --> 00:09:21.000 Jesus had compassion. 00:09:21.000 --> 00:09:29.000 One of the attributes that is displayed, one of the reasons God heals is because he wants to display or expose his attributes. 00:09:29.000 --> 00:09:34.000 And one of the strongest attributes that is displayed in healing is compassion. 00:09:34.000 --> 00:09:41.000 Why does God heal? Because he is gracious and compassionate and compassion is an attribute that he wants to show. 00:09:41.000 --> 00:09:44.000 That's one of the reasons why God heals. Let me explain. 00:10:27.000 --> 00:10:30.000 Yeah, so we'll work with that on the next sermon. 00:10:30.000 --> 00:10:38.000 But one of the attributes that's most obvious in healing is compassion because that is very nature. 00:10:38.000 --> 00:10:43.000 Slow to be indignant and full of compassion. 00:10:43.000 --> 00:10:46.000 Yeah, yeah. That's why I said indignant compassion. 00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:55.000 Because there have been times when I've seen kids sick or when I've seen someone I like a lot sick and such anger grasps me. 00:10:55.000 --> 00:11:00.000 And there's an how dare you touch this innocent child kind of a thing. 00:11:00.000 --> 00:11:02.000 So that's why I said indignant compassion. 00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:07.000 That's what Elmer had when Eli was here the last time. 00:11:07.000 --> 00:11:12.000 He looked at him and he had that indignant compassion. 00:11:12.000 --> 00:11:17.000 How do you take this? 00:11:17.000 --> 00:11:25.000 And stop reading the normal print, not the fine print, James. 00:11:26.000 --> 00:11:32.000 So one of the attributes that's exposed during healing is compassion. 00:11:32.000 --> 00:11:39.000 So why does God heal? Because he wants to display his compassion, display his attribute. 00:11:39.000 --> 00:11:42.000 I love this. Why does God heal? 00:11:42.000 --> 00:11:48.000 One, because he likes honoring my faith or likes honoring me, likes honoring my request. 00:11:48.000 --> 00:11:51.000 Two, he likes healing because it displays his attributes. 00:11:51.000 --> 00:11:56.000 And one of his attributes is compassion. 00:11:56.000 --> 00:12:01.000 Thirdly, why does God heal? 00:12:01.000 --> 00:12:04.000 God heals because he likes authenticating himself and his word. 00:12:04.000 --> 00:12:07.000 He likes authenticating himself. 00:12:07.000 --> 00:12:16.000 He likes authenticating himself and his word. 00:12:18.000 --> 00:12:24.000 He likes authenticating himself and his word. 00:12:24.000 --> 00:12:33.000 Matthew 11, 3-5. 00:12:33.000 --> 00:12:46.000 When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask him, 00:12:46.000 --> 00:12:50.000 Are you the one who was to come or should we expect someone else? 00:12:50.000 --> 00:12:53.000 Jesus replied, Go back and report to John what you hear and see. 00:12:53.000 --> 00:12:58.000 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, and those who have leprosy are cured. 00:12:58.000 --> 00:13:03.000 The deaf fear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. 00:13:03.000 --> 00:13:06.000 Blessed is the man who does not fall away and account of me. 00:13:06.000 --> 00:13:09.000 One of the reasons God heals, they come and ask him, are you the coming one? 00:13:09.000 --> 00:13:12.000 Meaning, are you the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God? 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:15.000 And he says, he doesn't tell him. He doesn't say, Yep, I am. 00:13:15.000 --> 00:13:17.000 He says, Go tell them. 00:13:17.000 --> 00:13:20.000 Because why? The Old Testament had talked about how this Messiah will come and the lame will walk 00:13:20.000 --> 00:13:23.000 and the blind will see. He says, Go tell them. 00:13:23.000 --> 00:13:27.000 Go tell John that the sick are being healed, the dead are being raised, 00:13:27.000 --> 00:13:30.000 the blind can see and the deaf can hear, and the lame can walk. 00:13:30.000 --> 00:13:34.000 One of the reasons God heals is because he displays who he is. 00:13:34.000 --> 00:13:39.000 There's not even an attribute. It's as in compassion needs. 00:13:39.000 --> 00:13:44.000 It's an authentication or a validation of who he is and what he does. 00:13:44.000 --> 00:13:47.000 This is who God is. He's a healer. 00:13:47.000 --> 00:13:50.000 And he authenticates his word. 00:13:50.000 --> 00:13:54.000 Psalm 103 verse 5, anybody? 00:13:54.000 --> 00:13:57.000 He heals all our diseases. 00:13:57.000 --> 00:14:01.000 Psalm 107 verse 20, anybody? 00:14:01.000 --> 00:14:06.000 He sent his word and healed our diseases. 00:14:06.000 --> 00:14:11.000 Mark 16, 20, anybody? 00:14:11.000 --> 00:14:16.000 Don't need the fine print on Mark 16 either, because it has fine print. 00:14:16.000 --> 00:14:22.000 Mark 16, 20 says, and he went and worked with them, 00:14:22.000 --> 00:14:27.000 validating what they spoke with signs and wonders. 00:14:27.000 --> 00:14:35.000 So at the end of the day, one of the reasons God heals is because he likes authenticating his word. 00:14:35.000 --> 00:14:39.000 And he makes it obvious as to who he is. 00:14:39.000 --> 00:14:43.000 He likes authenticating his word. 00:14:43.000 --> 00:14:47.000 Isaiah 55 says, when I send out my word, it shall not come back. 00:14:47.000 --> 00:14:52.000 Boy, it will accomplish the purpose and it will prosper my pleasure. 00:14:52.000 --> 00:14:57.000 And his word very clearly indicates again and again that he is someone who enjoys healing. 00:14:57.000 --> 00:15:02.000 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 00:15:02.000 --> 00:15:07.000 He sends his word and heals my diseases. 00:15:07.000 --> 00:15:10.000 See, God works with me. I love that. 00:15:10.000 --> 00:15:11.000 Just listen to this, guys. 00:15:11.000 --> 00:15:19.000 This year, you have an opportunity to step into a place where God will work with you, 00:15:19.000 --> 00:15:23.000 God will work with you to confirm the word with signs and wonders. 00:15:23.000 --> 00:15:26.000 Let me say that again. Hear that. 00:15:26.000 --> 00:15:32.000 This year, you have an opportunity to let God work with you, 00:15:32.000 --> 00:15:38.000 confirming what you speak or confirming the word, not what you speak. 00:15:38.000 --> 00:15:46.000 This year, you have an opportunity to let God work with you to confirm the word with signs and wonders. 00:15:46.000 --> 00:15:50.000 And so if you want God to work with you in this area, 00:15:50.000 --> 00:15:54.000 you need to now begin to speak, display, go and do. 00:15:54.000 --> 00:15:56.000 Because it won't happen otherwise. 00:15:56.000 --> 00:15:58.000 We talked about that last time. 00:15:58.000 --> 00:16:08.000 Outflow induces thirst, stagnancy inhibits thirst or filling. 00:16:08.000 --> 00:16:10.000 No, I was talking about the Holy Spirit. 00:16:10.000 --> 00:16:13.000 I said that if you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, 00:16:13.000 --> 00:16:17.000 you have to have an outflow of what the Spirit of God has put in you. 00:16:17.000 --> 00:16:21.000 Outflow induces filling. 00:16:21.000 --> 00:16:24.000 Stagnation inhibits filling. 00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:29.000 But outflow is impossible without foolishness. 00:16:29.000 --> 00:16:33.000 You have to be foolish to have an outflow out of your life. 00:16:33.000 --> 00:16:39.000 You cannot have an outflow of the life of God through you unless you are foolish. 00:16:39.000 --> 00:16:44.000 If I am not foolish, I will not go pick up someone on the road and say, 00:16:45.000 --> 00:16:48.000 I will not go pick up someone on the road and say, 00:16:48.000 --> 00:16:51.000 someone send me to pick you up. 00:16:51.000 --> 00:16:57.000 You have to have foolishness for outflow to happen. 00:16:57.000 --> 00:17:04.000 And you have to have outflow to induce filling. 00:17:04.000 --> 00:17:10.000 And so God is willing this year on this trip for the rest of the 11 months 00:17:10.000 --> 00:17:14.000 to work with you and me to confirm the word with signs and wonders. 00:17:14.000 --> 00:17:19.000 But I must speak, I must display, I must go, I must do. 00:17:19.000 --> 00:17:22.000 Showtime. 00:17:22.000 --> 00:17:27.000 Stagnation inhibits. 00:17:27.000 --> 00:17:35.000 Stagnation inhibits. Outflow induces. 00:17:35.000 --> 00:17:44.000 The other reason why God heals is because healing leads others to repent. 00:17:44.000 --> 00:17:52.000 Healing leads others to repent. 00:17:52.000 --> 00:17:59.000 Healing leads others to repent. 00:17:59.000 --> 00:18:01.000 Ryan, can you pick that up for me? 00:18:01.000 --> 00:18:05.000 Actually, because if I bend this, Mike will start making noise. 00:18:05.000 --> 00:18:06.000 Thanks. 00:18:06.000 --> 00:18:10.000 And I really meant that. 00:18:10.000 --> 00:18:12.000 Ryan, honest, because it will start making noises. 00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:15.000 It wasn't trying to make a noise. 00:18:15.000 --> 00:18:17.000 Leads others to repent. 00:18:17.000 --> 00:18:19.000 Healing leads others to repent. 00:18:19.000 --> 00:18:30.000 Go to Acts chapter 9. 00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:33.000 I wish I had this on my ear all the time. 00:18:33.000 --> 00:18:41.000 Acts chapter 9, verse 33. 00:18:41.000 --> 00:18:43.000 Acts chapter 9, verse 33. 00:18:43.000 --> 00:18:48.000 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the saints in Lydda. 00:18:48.000 --> 00:18:55.000 There he found a man named Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for 80 years. 00:18:55.000 --> 00:18:59.000 As Peter said to him, Jesus Christ heals you. 00:18:59.000 --> 00:19:01.000 Get up and take care of your man. 00:19:01.000 --> 00:19:03.000 Immediately Aeneas got up. 00:19:03.000 --> 00:19:08.000 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. 00:19:08.000 --> 00:19:09.000 Another one. 00:19:09.000 --> 00:19:15.000 Acts chapter 3, verse 9. 00:19:15.000 --> 00:19:20.000 Acts 3, 9. 00:19:20.000 --> 00:19:23.000 You know the story. 00:19:23.000 --> 00:19:25.000 Silver or gold do I have none, verse 6. 00:19:25.000 --> 00:19:27.000 But what I have I give you. 00:19:27.000 --> 00:19:29.000 In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth walk. 00:19:29.000 --> 00:19:33.000 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. 00:19:33.000 --> 00:19:35.000 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. 00:19:35.000 --> 00:19:40.000 Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping and praising God. 00:19:40.000 --> 00:19:47.000 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful. 00:19:47.000 --> 00:19:51.000 And they were all filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to them. 00:19:51.000 --> 00:19:56.000 And then Peter begins to speak and then go to chapter 4, verse 4. 00:19:56.000 --> 00:20:07.000 But many who heard the message believed and the number of men grew to about 5,000, which is a direct result of the healing that happened. 00:20:07.000 --> 00:20:12.000 Guys, many times healing leads people to repent and turn to Christ. 00:20:12.000 --> 00:20:18.000 I remember once going with Elmer and Anne to this man's house here in Richmond who was not a Christian. 00:20:18.000 --> 00:20:19.000 He was a Hindu. 00:20:19.000 --> 00:20:26.000 And what was happening is his mom had died and she would appear out of nowhere in the middle of the road or in his room. 00:20:26.000 --> 00:20:32.000 And just the whole family was being demonized. 00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:35.000 But once we prayed, that whole incident stopped. 00:20:35.000 --> 00:20:41.000 But now they were open to hearing the rest of the gospel. 00:20:41.000 --> 00:20:44.000 And so we sat there and told them about who Christ was. 00:20:45.000 --> 00:20:51.000 Another instance was in Indonesia, this guy called Nolde, N-O-L-D-Y. 00:20:51.000 --> 00:20:53.000 I've shown this picture a year long ago. 00:20:53.000 --> 00:21:00.000 He sat and watched healings taking place, the prophetic happening, people's legs getting healed and growing and stuff like that. 00:21:00.000 --> 00:21:04.000 And so he comes at the end of the meeting and says, I want Jesus. 00:21:04.000 --> 00:21:05.000 So I said, why?
