He's already and always present and it is we who need to be awakened to God's 00:01:45.600 --> 00:01:52.600 presence. God is already and always present. Ever since Christ came, ever since he inaugurated 00:01:53.600 --> 00:02:00.600 the kingdom, ever since he left the Holy Spirit here, he is already and he is always present. 00:02:03.000 --> 00:02:10.000 You know, this is so unconnected, but if we can leave for places ahead of time, like if 00:02:13.680 --> 00:02:18.880 you have a ten o'clock appointment and you give yourself enough time to get there, you 00:02:18.880 --> 00:02:25.880 will be more aware of the presence of God. In our rush, we miss out. We suddenly be more 00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:34.480 aware of the presence of God if we gave ourselves time. Something that has changed radically 00:02:34.480 --> 00:02:40.800 in my life because I'm always leaving it to the last minute and then I'm rush, rush, rush, 00:02:40.800 --> 00:02:45.240 not mindful of the presence of God around me because he'll begin to show us things that 00:02:45.240 --> 00:02:51.640 we wouldn't otherwise see. That's just on the side. He's already and always present 00:02:51.640 --> 00:02:56.360 and it is we who need to be awakened to God's presence. The problem is we habitually live 00:02:56.360 --> 00:03:03.360 in the past or in the future or in present anxieties. And I mean that in a good way as in, oh this 00:03:59.280 --> 00:04:03.440 could happen, what if this happened. And so these are the three places we live in. And 00:04:03.440 --> 00:04:09.280 in the process what happens is we are not fully present before God because he is fully 00:04:09.280 --> 00:04:16.280 present before us. Reconciled is when an accountant balances both sides of the ledger. 00:10:08.640 --> 00:10:13.800 That's reconciling. The debts and the credits are now taken care of. He makes himself known to the world through us. He can do it sovereignly too, 00:11:59.480 --> 00:12:06.480 because he chooses us to do this. There was a time in our lives where we could pat ourselves on the back and say, yeah, 00:12:28.960 --> 00:12:32.960 I was aware of God. I was so aware of his presence. Let's stop patting ourselves on 00:12:32.960 --> 00:12:39.960 the back, because it was not his design. And we should remember that God is not God. He 00:12:39.960 --> 00:12:46.960 is present. God always takes the initiative to draw us into his presence. 00:16:32.620 --> 00:16:37.020 So don't be worried about, oh if we don't do this, his presence won't be here. The friendship of presence. And he's the one who draws us in. He'll never 00:17:34.740 --> 00:17:40.900 back off from that till you reject him. He won't back off from it. Everything is almost 00:17:40.900 --> 00:17:56.900 spread like a banquet table for us. Yeah, so we briefly mentioned this last time and 00:17:56.900 --> 00:18:03.820 we didn't talk about it. When it comes to the presence of God, there is our expression 00:18:03.900 --> 00:18:10.900 of it. Our experience of it and God's expression of it. And so sometimes when I'm really sensitive 00:18:11.300 --> 00:18:15.100 could be because something happened in my life. Could be because I'm fasting. Could 00:18:15.100 --> 00:18:21.400 be because worship touched my heart or some great gratitude. At times like that the presence 00:18:21.400 --> 00:18:27.180 of God that is always there will become so intense for me because my experience of his 00:18:27.660 --> 00:18:34.660 presence now is different. No, periodic awareness is when we go in and out of God. We are aware 00:18:35.060 --> 00:18:38.780 of him sometimes and then for 20 hours we are not and then 4 hours we are. That's what 00:18:38.780 --> 00:18:43.020 I mean by periodic awareness. And then there is the expression of God. Sometimes God deliberately 00:18:43.020 --> 00:18:50.020 turns up strong. In some manifest way he turns up strong. Those times, doesn't matter if 00:18:51.020 --> 00:18:58.020 a person is dead they'll feel it. So there's that part too. Always remember, we don't hear 00:19:01.380 --> 00:19:07.660 this part during the Easter service. When he rose from the dead, tombs broke open and 00:19:07.660 --> 00:19:13.580 people that were dead began to walk into Jerusalem. Must have freaked people out. Ooh, grandpa 00:19:13.660 --> 00:19:20.660 is coming back. Because he could see grandpa walking. And it says they came into Jerusalem. 00:19:31.260 --> 00:19:38.260 And so what do we mean by present before God? Present before God. Our inner man as in the 00:19:38.660 --> 00:19:45.660 real Jacob, Jacob whose spirit is one with the Holy Spirit, our inner man can always 00:19:45.660 --> 00:19:52.660 be aware of him. We have that capacity. Why do we sing that song, our soul Lord to you 00:19:52.660 --> 00:19:57.660 surrender and all I am is yours because the soul gets in the way. But our spirit man, 00:19:57.660 --> 00:20:01.940 our inner man has the ability to be always aware of God. Why? Because that's where God 00:20:01.940 --> 00:20:07.940 dwells. His spirit and my spirit have become one. That's where he dwells. And that's where 00:20:07.940 --> 00:20:12.980 he dwells. How can my spirit not be aware of him? It's that my soul takes over. My 00:20:12.980 --> 00:20:19.980 fretting and my fantasizing and my fears and the deadlines and clocks and control, all 00:20:20.820 --> 00:20:27.140 that takes over and it gets lost. But being aware of him, our inner man can always be 00:20:27.140 --> 00:20:34.140 present. Not can always, is always present with God. Emmanuel is in there. Ephesians 00:20:34.140 --> 00:20:41.140 talks about this. If you go to Ephesians 3, Ephesians 3 verse 16 to 19, the advantages 00:20:44.780 --> 00:20:49.580 of being present before God. In Ephesians 3, 16 to 19 basically what will happen if 00:20:49.580 --> 00:20:55.780 we are able to do this is you'll be filled with the fullness of God. As in you'll be 00:20:55.780 --> 00:21:02.780 filled with an awareness of oh shucks, the king of the universe lives in me. Filled with 00:21:02.780 --> 00:21:09.780 the fullness of God. Second, you will know the love of Christ for you that surpasses 00:21:10.860 --> 00:21:17.860 all understanding. That surpasses all knowledge. And three, you will know the breadth, the 00:21:22.940 --> 00:21:29.940 height, the depth of his love for you and for others. And that's why you will be filled 00:21:32.780 --> 00:21:39.780 with the fullness of God. So let's read Ephesians 3, 16 to 19. I ask him, God, to strengthen 00:21:53.060 --> 00:21:58.660 you by his spirit, not a brute strength, but a glorious inner strength. That Christ will 00:21:58.660 --> 00:22:04.620 live in you as you open the door and invite him in. If I build my house in the deepest of depths, you're there. If I take 00:23:00.020 --> 00:23:07.020 the wings of a bird and fly off in the morning, you're there. How? Psalm 139, verse 7 onwards. 00:23:08.020 --> 00:23:15.020 I'll read from the message and then from NIV. Is there any place I can go to avoid your 00:23:23.620 --> 00:23:29.620 spirit, to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you're there. If I go underground, 00:23:29.620 --> 00:23:34.420 you're there. If I flew on morning's wings to the far western horizon, you would find 00:23:34.420 --> 00:23:40.420 me in a minute. You're already there waiting. Then I say to myself, oh, he even sees me 00:23:40.420 --> 00:23:47.420 in the dark. At night, I'm immersed in the light. Listen to it from the NIV. Where can 00:23:51.780 --> 00:23:56.740 I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, 00:23:56.740 --> 00:24:00.740 you're there. If I make my bed in the depths, you're there. If I rise on the wings of the 00:24:00.740 --> 00:24:06.980 dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, if I say surely the darkness will hide me, 00:24:06.980 --> 00:24:11.980 your light becomes night around me, even there your hand will guide me. I mean, what is it that makes it 00:24:41.460 --> 00:24:45.820 easy to meet him and what is it that makes it easy to miss him? There are patterns in 00:24:45.820 --> 00:24:52.820 our life that cause this to happen. Where do I meet him? Where do I miss him? Another 00:24:53.820 --> 00:25:00.820 question is, what helps me pay attention? What helps me pay attention? What hinders 00:25:07.260 --> 00:25:14.260 me from paying attention? What hinders me from paying attention? What helps me to pay 00:25:16.260 --> 00:25:21.140 attention? What hinders me? The reason I brought up the time thing is because I suddenly realized 00:25:21.140 --> 00:25:28.140 that if I am not hurrying, I seem to pay more attention. Simple. And so what if I actually 00:25:30.580 --> 00:25:37.580 and who am I paying attention to? Not to myself, not even to God, but him crowding the earth 00:25:37.580 --> 00:25:44.580 incognito. You become aware of it. And it's so beautiful. I can never understand when 00:25:44.580 --> 00:25:51.580 mothers say, oh, I wish my child wasn't growing up so fast. In my mind, isn't it better for 00:25:53.860 --> 00:26:00.860 you? But then as they turn eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, there's almost this regret, 00:26:02.700 --> 00:26:09.700 ah, this child is becoming a person. Somehow this will give us back the amazing, the amazing 00:26:14.940 --> 00:26:21.940 beauty of God on earth. It'll give us, it'll give us back. Try it, guys. Yes, I am perfectly holy. He has made me perfectly holy. When you're talking about absolute purity, what does this even mean? What does 00:37:42.500 --> 00:37:49.500 it mean when perfectly good and permanently good? And because he is holy, the God who judges now has to punish himself so that 00:40:37.420 --> 00:40:43.100 he can show mercy. And mercy, remember, is always undeserved.
