00:04:07.800 --> 00:04:10.800 We hear this scripture often quoted during Christmas, 00:04:10.800 --> 00:04:13.300 Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, 00:04:13.300 --> 00:04:14.800 and the government shall be upon his shoulders. 00:04:14.800 --> 00:04:18.800 We realize through that scripture that our shucks, this is important to God 00:04:18.800 --> 00:04:21.300 because at the moment of the birth of his son, 00:04:21.300 --> 00:04:23.800 who came to change the history of mankind, 00:04:23.800 --> 00:04:26.800 it starts with this line, to us a child is born, 00:04:26.800 --> 00:04:29.800 to us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders. 00:04:29.800 --> 00:04:31.800 So, we need to explore this idea of, 00:04:31.800 --> 00:04:33.800 so what did you mean, oh God, when you said 00:04:33.800 --> 00:04:35.800 the government shall be upon his shoulders? 00:04:35.800 --> 00:04:39.300 And so, kubanau is a word they use for government. 00:04:39.300 --> 00:04:44.800 It means to steer with a rudder, as in it begins to direct the entire ship, eh? 00:04:45.300 --> 00:04:50.300 And it's a system under which the right to make laws 00:04:50.300 --> 00:04:55.300 and the right to enforce laws is vested in, or given to, 00:04:55.300 --> 00:05:01.300 a particular group that resides in a city, a community or a nation. 00:05:01.300 --> 00:05:04.300 Any questions? 00:05:04.800 --> 00:05:07.800 Any questions? 00:05:13.800 --> 00:05:23.800 Okay, so now let's look at Christ and see if he fits this definition. 00:05:23.800 --> 00:05:28.800 We said last week that based on Ephesians 1.20-23 from the message, 00:05:28.800 --> 00:05:31.800 which I quoted it from, Ephesians 1.20-23, 00:05:32.300 --> 00:05:38.300 we said last week that everything is under his feet. 00:05:42.300 --> 00:05:44.300 That's equation one. 00:05:44.300 --> 00:05:51.300 Second equation, he is the head of the church. 00:05:51.800 --> 00:06:06.800 Third equation, he films, speaks, acts primarily through the church, 00:06:06.800 --> 00:06:09.800 through his body. 00:06:10.300 --> 00:06:24.300 Fourth, if that is the case, then the church is not peripheral to the world. 00:06:27.300 --> 00:06:38.300 Fifth equation, the world is peripheral to the church. 00:06:40.300 --> 00:06:46.300 Does this make sense? If it doesn't, tell me why. 00:06:46.300 --> 00:06:49.300 This is what government looks like. 00:06:53.300 --> 00:06:58.300 Ephesians 1.20-23 says, everything is placed under his feet. 00:06:58.300 --> 00:07:01.300 Everything is placed under his feet. 00:07:10.300 --> 00:07:16.300 So let's assume this is Christ, then everything, every name that is named, 00:07:16.300 --> 00:07:21.300 every power that exists, every title, every rank, every principality, 00:07:21.300 --> 00:07:25.300 every prince, every king, every local government, every known government on earth, 00:07:25.300 --> 00:07:28.300 everything is placed under the feet of Christ. 00:07:28.300 --> 00:07:32.300 That's the first thing. There's no contesting that. 00:07:32.800 --> 00:07:35.800 Then we find out that he, Christ, 00:07:38.800 --> 00:07:45.800 is the head of the church, which is his body. 00:07:46.800 --> 00:07:53.800 And in this body, he fills with his presence, he speaks through this body, 00:07:53.800 --> 00:07:59.800 and he acts through this body, and he has been given his head to this body, 00:07:59.800 --> 00:08:05.300 and he is above everything that exists. Everything is under his feet. 00:08:06.300 --> 00:08:14.300 If that is the case, then if Christ is the ultimate supreme being that exists 00:08:14.300 --> 00:08:18.300 without beginning or end, and he exists over everything else, 00:08:18.300 --> 00:08:20.300 and he is the head of the body, and he speaks through the body, 00:08:20.300 --> 00:08:25.300 he acts through the body, he fills the body with his very presence, 00:08:25.800 --> 00:08:30.800 then it follows then that the place where he dwells or the body that he occupies 00:08:30.800 --> 00:08:35.800 is not peripheral to the world, but the world is peripheral to the church. 00:08:35.800 --> 00:08:37.800 Any questions? 00:08:37.800 --> 00:08:41.800 You've got to understand this logically, because that way at least 00:08:41.800 --> 00:08:44.800 we won't think this is pie in the sky. 00:08:48.300 --> 00:08:52.300 It's that A is equal to B, B is equal to C, so the A is equal to C thing, 00:08:52.300 --> 00:08:55.800 which I think was how it went 40 years ago. 00:08:59.800 --> 00:09:01.800 Any questions on that, guys? 00:09:02.800 --> 00:09:03.800 This is government. 00:09:06.800 --> 00:09:08.800 Any disagreements? 00:09:12.800 --> 00:09:13.800 Okay. 00:09:14.800 --> 00:09:18.800 I'm assuming you guys are being sincere. 00:09:22.800 --> 00:09:23.800 Okay. 00:09:33.800 --> 00:09:42.800 Isaiah 9 verses 2 to 5 gives us the backdrop for that amazing statement in verse 6 and 7. 00:09:42.800 --> 00:09:49.800 So if you go to Isaiah 9, verse 2 to 5, you realize that the backdrop for the ultimate passage 00:09:50.300 --> 00:09:57.300 announcing government is a backdrop or an environment of arrogance, 00:09:57.300 --> 00:10:04.300 of war, of oppression, of darkness and coercion, and into that is introduced a child-like son. 00:10:04.300 --> 00:10:06.300 So let's go to Isaiah 9. 00:10:10.300 --> 00:10:15.300 It's almost as if the darker the circumstances, the more God rubs his hands with glee. 00:10:15.800 --> 00:10:22.800 So let's start Isaiah 9, verse 2 to 5, which will give you an idea of how things were during those days. 00:10:22.800 --> 00:10:24.800 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. 00:10:24.800 --> 00:10:28.800 Those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned on them. 00:10:28.800 --> 00:10:30.800 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy. 00:10:30.800 --> 00:10:36.800 They rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder. 00:10:36.800 --> 00:10:40.800 For as in the day of millions' defeat you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, 00:10:40.800 --> 00:10:43.800 the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressors. 00:10:44.300 --> 00:10:47.300 So that's what happened with the arrival of this child. 00:10:47.300 --> 00:10:50.300 But look at it. There was a yoke upon them, there were burdens upon them, 00:10:50.300 --> 00:10:55.300 there was a bar upon their shoulders, as in shackles, the rod of the oppressor was upon them, 00:10:55.300 --> 00:11:02.300 darkness was upon them, and every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood 00:11:02.300 --> 00:11:04.300 will be destined for burning, will be fuel for fire. 00:11:04.300 --> 00:11:08.300 So it was during a time of oppression that this verse now comes to life. 00:11:08.800 --> 00:11:09.800 And then it says, 00:11:10.300 --> 00:11:13.300 To us a child is born, to us a son is given, 00:11:13.300 --> 00:11:15.300 and the government will be upon his shoulders. 00:11:15.300 --> 00:11:20.300 And he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, 00:11:20.300 --> 00:11:22.300 Prince of Peace. 00:11:22.300 --> 00:11:25.300 Of the increase of his government and peace, there will be no end. 00:11:25.300 --> 00:11:30.300 He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing it and upholding it 00:11:30.300 --> 00:11:34.300 with justice and righteousness, from that time on and forever. 00:11:34.300 --> 00:11:36.800 The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish it. 00:11:36.800 --> 00:11:41.280 So the government that he sets up, guys, this is a beautiful thing. 00:11:41.280 --> 00:11:47.200 In the through whom he will rule. 00:13:33.840 --> 00:13:35.360 It's a God with us government. 00:13:36.800 --> 00:13:46.800 So to us, a child is born and this child happens to manifest the presence of God Bethlehem, he is one who will take over the running of the world. 00:14:57.360 --> 00:14:58.480 That's in Isaiah. 00:14:58.480 --> 00:15:04.880 Thousands of years later, Paul in Ephesians 1 verse 21 says, God set him in charge. 00:15:06.400 --> 00:15:08.000 God set him again from the message. 00:15:08.000 --> 00:15:20.560 God set him in charge of running the universe from galaxies to governments. 00:19:26.560 then in the sewage pit of human thinking, 00:19:28.240 --> 00:19:34.240 this government has, or the people who belong to this kingdom have amazing divine wisdom. 00:19:35.040 --> one of the things, because that's my vocation, 00:20:26.560 --> 00:20:31.520 one of the things I want to do is build here correctly so that I can show people 00:20:31.520 --> 00:20:35.840 the wisdom past, he's seen the wisdom of God change the man's life. 00:21:57.200 --> 00:22:02.080 On his birthday, he wants to know if he can get a little more from the wisdom of God, 00:22:02.080 -->
