Today we're going to look at four verses from 1st Corinthians 00:00:07.360 --> 00:00:16.280 chapter 10. We'll start there. 1st Corinthians chapter 10, 1 through 4. 00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:27.080 1st Corinthians chapter 10, 1 through 4. It says, I do not want you to be 00:00:27.080 --> 00:00:32.840 unaware brothers that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed 00:00:32.840 --> 00:00:41.400 through the sea and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea 00:00:41.400 --> 00:00:51.240 and all drank the same spiritual drink and all ate the same spiritual food. I 00:00:51.240 --> 00:00:56.720 thought the verse was up here. This you can bring up later. And then it says, for 00:00:56.720 --> 00:01:01.760 they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them and the rock was Christ. 00:01:01.760 --> 00:01:07.560 There's one thing I want us to do today guys. This is it. Today is one of those 00:01:07.560 --> 00:01:14.200 days where more than what I have to say, I want us to do things together as God 00:01:14.200 --> 00:01:19.840 brings things up in our minds, in our spirits. So please don't sit here to 00:01:19.840 --> 00:01:27.520 listen. Please sit here to work with the Holy Spirit. My desire today is that by 00:01:27.520 --> 00:01:35.200 the time we are done, you will have let go of some stuff because we're in a new 00:01:35.200 --> 00:01:43.640 place moving to a new time, new purposes with him. So please don't listen to me. 00:01:43.640 --> 00:01:49.000 Please listen to me and work with the Holy Spirit. He's telling you stuff as I 00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:55.880 am speaking, I'm sure. And as he speaks, as he lights up your mind, work with him 00:01:55.880 --> 00:02:02.280 to do what you need to do. Yeah? Okay. Let's read the verses again. First going 00:02:02.280 --> 00:02:07.760 to be in chapter 10, one through four. Almost sounds like it's one of those long 00:02:07.760 --> 00:02:13.720 Paul verses but it's not too bad. Just four verses. For I do not want you to be 00:02:13.720 --> 00:02:18.160 unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed 00:02:18.320 --> 00:02:23.440 through the sea and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea 00:02:23.720 --> 00:02:28.680 and all ate the same spiritual food and all drank the same spiritual drink for 00:02:28.680 --> 00:02:34.640 they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them and the rock was Christ. 00:02:35.720 --> 00:02:40.440 These four verses, Paul actually says, the reason I'm writing this to you, the 00:02:40.440 --> 00:02:45.840 church in Corinth, the reason I'm writing is I don't want you to be unaware. The 00:02:45.840 --> 00:02:50.960 story is very clear. It's a story of the Israelites in the wilderness. It's a 00:02:50.960 --> 00:02:55.360 story of how God brought them out, how they spent 40 years in the wilderness 00:02:55.360 --> 00:03:00.320 before they entered into the promised land. So it's not a story that the people 00:03:00.320 --> 00:03:05.280 who are hearing this letter, they're not unaware of it. But then still, Paul is 00:03:05.280 --> 00:03:10.520 saying, I do not want you to be unaware. I do not want you to miss this thing. I 00:03:11.160 --> 00:03:16.400 do not want you to not pay attention to what I am writing because what I am 00:03:16.400 --> 00:03:22.720 writing is going to be something you need to apply in your life. In other words, 00:03:22.720 --> 00:03:27.480 he actually says in verse six, if you see there, it says, now these things, 00:03:27.480 --> 00:03:32.680 meaning the things that we just read, now these things took place as examples 00:03:32.680 --> 00:03:39.360 for us. Why? That we might not desire evil as they did. So the whole reason Paul 00:03:39.360 --> 00:03:42.920 is writing to the church in Corinth and he's labored amongst them for a while 00:03:42.920 --> 00:03:47.480 now, the reason he's writing the letter is because he's saying, I want you to be 00:03:47.480 --> 00:03:51.760 aware. I don't want you to be unaware of what happened because there are 00:03:51.760 --> 00:03:56.680 experiences, there are lessons for you to learn from the story. And the word 00:03:56.680 --> 00:04:04.680 unaware very simply is this. It's not equal to I want you to be aware of. It 00:04:04.800 --> 00:04:10.640 actually means do not resist what the Holy Spirit wants to tell you through it. 00:04:10.640 --> 00:04:17.760 Do not resist knowledge. It is one thing in life to know and hear, but it is 00:04:17.760 --> 00:04:22.960 another thing to say, father, I want this to go deep into my spirit and do a work. 00:04:22.960 --> 00:04:28.200 Don't resist it. One of the things that we can so easily do is these are verses 00:04:28.200 --> 00:04:32.480 that we have read, these are scriptures that we know, there are 500 sermons you 00:04:32.480 --> 00:04:36.720 probably have heard, but then the Holy Spirit comes along and he says, I want 00:04:36.720 --> 00:04:41.640 you to be aware. I want you to be aware. I want you to pay attention because there 00:04:41.640 --> 00:04:45.880 is something here that I want you to learn. So that's what we're going to do 00:04:45.880 --> 00:04:53.840 over the next little while. I want to share a story. Subtle thoughts in our 00:04:53.840 --> 00:04:59.120 minds that resist the knowledge of God can often go unnoticed. Listen to me 00:04:59.120 --> 00:05:06.200 please. In 2017, Don and I were looking for a place 00:05:15.560 --> 00:05:23.080 to move from Vancouver to Surrey and I had been at that time in Canada for six 00:05:23.080 --> 00:05:28.480 years or so and so we started looking and I found a place on Craigslist, this 00:05:28.480 --> 00:05:33.480 place in Langley. Don and I drive there. We go, we talk to the landlord. They like 00:05:33.480 --> 00:05:40.440 us, we like them. We're like, yeah let's move in. It's easy. And so we go, we 00:05:40.440 --> 00:05:44.400 come back. Don and I come back. There is something in my heart that's not right. 00:05:44.400 --> 00:05:49.960 Even though we found a place, it's just 20 minutes from where we 00:05:49.960 --> 00:05:55.240 would be living to work. So easy drive. 20 minutes is not bad. I come back home 00:05:55.240 --> 00:05:59.360 and I don't feel right about it and two days later or three days later I'm at a 00:05:59.360 --> 00:06:04.600 house church meeting and if you remember Anne and Elmer, Anne is talking and while 00:06:04.600 --> 00:06:09.760 Anne is talking, Anne is saying, the Holy Spirit wants you to repent of decisions 00:06:09.760 --> 00:06:13.840 that you take too quickly. As soon as Anne said it, in my heart I knew what it was. 00:06:13.840 --> 00:06:18.080 Because all those two, three days there is something weighing on my heart. Yes 00:06:18.080 --> 00:06:22.720 they said yes. The house opened up but that wasn't the right thing and the Holy 00:06:22.760 --> 00:06:27.280 Spirit began to speak to me and this is what he said, Derek, the last six years of 00:06:27.280 --> 00:06:32.720 your life in Canada, every time you looked for a house or a rental, every time 00:06:32.720 --> 00:06:38.480 you needed a car, you did not go to Craigslist first. You came to me first. 00:06:38.480 --> 00:06:43.320 It's been six years now. You're very quick to go to Craigslist to find a 00:06:43.320 --> 00:06:49.040 place. This is not how I lead you. As soon as I heard it, we wrote back to the 00:06:49.120 --> 00:06:52.600 person and said we're not taking the place and I went through a process 00:06:52.600 --> 00:06:58.280 because I all of a sudden realized that these are subtle thoughts. Hey what's 00:06:58.280 --> 00:07:02.720 wrong with Craigslist man? Nothing wrong. What's wrong with that place? Nothing 00:07:02.720 --> 00:07:08.960 wrong. Place opened up. Favor, let's go. But the Holy Spirit is saying no. So 00:07:08.960 --> 00:07:15.500 listen to me. Continuous resistance to knowledge dulls your mind and robs you 00:07:15.500 --> 00:07:20.500 of God purposes. Continuous resistance meaning the Holy Spirit is telling hey 00:07:20.500 --> 00:07:25.420 there is another way to do it but you're so used to or have become accustomed to 00:07:25.420 --> 00:07:31.940 doing things a certain way and if you keep going down that path it will dull 00:07:31.940 --> 00:07:38.540 your mind. It will rob you of God purposes and these are subtle things so 00:07:38.540 --> 00:07:42.420 you've got to be aware. You got to know what's happening. What happened is we 00:07:42.420 --> 00:07:47.500 came back and we decided we ain't doing this so we went back to our father and 00:07:47.500 --> 00:07:53.380 we said hey father we want to do it the right way. Not Craigslist but you. You 00:07:53.380 --> 00:07:58.620 open a way. You open a door. You open a room. You open a space. In a matter of 00:07:58.620 --> 00:08:03.580 couple of days a place opens up and Don used to walk to work because it was three 00:08:03.580 --> 00:08:08.220 minutes. When we thought 20 minutes was a great deal he opened up a place for us 00:08:08.220 --> 00:08:13.700 two three minutes from our place of work. Why am I sharing this story? Because 00:08:13.700 --> 00:08:19.460 it's so important for us to recognize that these subtle things if we if we 00:08:19.460 --> 00:08:25.380 don't arrest them if we don't arrest those thoughts where we say where we 00:08:25.380 --> 00:08:29.580 are quick to do and operate a certain way if you don't arrest them and say nah 00:08:29.580 --> 00:08:35.140 nah nah nah this is not how my father raised me. This is not what the Holy 00:08:35.180 --> 00:08:39.580 Spirit wants me to do. So I'm going to be aware of what he wants to do. I will not 00:08:39.580 --> 00:08:44.020 resist truth. What is the truth I was resisting by going first to check 00:08:44.020 --> 00:08:50.140 Craigslist? I am a man led by the Spirit. It's a knowledge that I know but it 00:08:50.140 --> 00:08:54.900 doesn't matter that I know it. I need to apply it. I need to live it. How do I live 00:08:54.900 --> 00:08:59.980 it? Not going to Craigslist first. Not going to Google first. Use Craigslist and 00:09:00.100 --> 00:09:05.620 Google when you need to. Before that you go to the Father. But if I dull my mind 00:09:05.620 --> 00:09:10.220 to that and this is the thing I want us to understand if I as a person I say oh 00:09:10.220 --> 00:09:18.100 that's how it is I keep going down that path I lose something. I am robbed of 00:09:18.100 --> 00:09:26.740 God purposes. So subtle thoughts subtle things like this pay attention to this 00:09:26.740 --> 00:09:33.820 because it is important. Samson is a good example because Samson over a 00:09:33.820 --> 00:09:39.780 period of time rebelled against knowledge rebelled against what was 00:09:39.780 --> 00:09:45.180 right what happened dullness and it robbed him of God purposes. I want us to 00:09:45.180 --> 00:09:50.340 read before we go through these four verses and what it means for us. The 00:09:50.340 --> 00:09:54.220 passage right before this in 1st Corinthians chapter 9 is equally 00:09:54.220 --> 00:09:57.820 important because Paul is writing something to the church in Corinth and 00:09:57.820 --> 00:10:04.220 when we read what happened to the Jewish fathers in the wilderness before that 00:10:04.220 --> 00:10:10.340 Paul writes and he says guys you are in a race and in this race that you're in 00:10:10.340 --> 00:10:16.220 which equates to our lives on earth here is how you operate here's the modus 00:10:16.220 --> 00:10:20.500 operandi here is how you live here is how you run and there are so many times 00:10:20.540 --> 00:10:28.020 in the scripture you see this our lives are equated to a race and when we think 00:10:28.020 --> 00:10:35.860 of this race what you sometimes do is you think of the athletic track where 00:10:35.860 --> 00:10:41.260 you're running with the you know you're running with Diana and May and Matt and 00:10:41.260 --> 00:10:46.900 you're running around and around in circles but my goodness man this race 00:10:46.900 --> 00:10:52.700 that we are on we don't share the same track it takes us to different places 00:10:52.700 --> 00:10:57.860 but here is the thing we we do it together there are times when our paths 00:10:57.860 --> 00:11:03.500 traverse it come together it intersect but we are on a path that God has put 00:11:03.500 --> 00:11:08.660 you on and you're running it takes you to different places in life different 00:11:08.660 --> 00:11:12.980 things happen but in that passage right before these four verses that we read 00:11:12.980 --> 00:11:17.820 out and in other passages in the Bible it's very clear how God asks us to be 00:11:17.820 --> 00:11:23.180 how he wants us to operate one thing he says is do not be aimless because you're 00:11:23.180 --> 00:11:30.100 not running aimlessly you're not just running for the sake of running you're 00:11:30.100 --> 00:11:37.860 not waking up the next day and living your life aimlessly and it says you are 00:11:37.860 --> 00:11:42.060 supposed to train yourself so the training doesn't happen there and then 00:11:42.060 --> 00:11:49.620 we go run here while we run we are being trained for the next phase and 00:11:49.620 --> 00:11:57.580 this is important guys at this time for us because God is taking us to a place 00:11:57.580 --> 00:12:04.900 and the title that I have for today is take the land he is giving us land and 00:12:04.900 --> 00:12:11.460 by that I do not mean this place by that what I mean is there is spiritual 00:12:11.460 --> 00:12:16.060 inheritance and other inheritance that the father wants to release to us and 00:12:16.060 --> 00:12:21.900 for us to be able to take the land that he is giving we've got to live a certain 00:12:21.900 --> 00:12:28.500 way we've got to leave behind some things then we then we can walk into and 00:12:28.500 --> 00:12:34.700 access and inherit what God has for us couple other things about 00:16:32.700 --> 00:16:38.660 above the tabernacle there was a cloud and the way God operated with the 00:16:38.660 --> 00:16:45.260 people of Israel is whenever the cloud settled the Israelites were supposed to 00:16:45.260 --> 00:16:50.980 camp there when the cloud lifted and when it moved they were supposed to move 00:16:50.980 --> 00:16:56.140 everything to this place wherever the crowd the cloud rested they were to set 00:16:56.140 --> 00:17:00.780 camp there so when it says here for I do not want you to be unaware brothers 00:17:00.780 --> 00:17:07.740 that our fathers were all under the cloud what it means is the Israelites 00:17:07.740 --> 00:17:11.740 were taken from one place to another place and on this map you can see the 00:17:11.740 --> 00:17:16.700 different places they were at how did they go well there was a cloud that was 00:17:16.700 --> 00:17:21.180 leading them and the scripture says during night this cloud was like fire 00:17:21.180 --> 00:17:28.540 and so there would be times when the cloud will move at night and it did not 00:17:28.540 --> 00:17:37.180 matter if it was day or night as soon as the cloud lifted they moved it did not 00:17:37.180 --> 00:17:47.100 matter that it was 6 a.m. or 5 p.m. if the cloud lifted they moved and for us 00:17:47.100 --> 00:17:52.260 to inherit and walk into and take the land that God has for us in fact Jane there 00:21:39.980 --> 00:21:43.940 is five six options and we find that we pick this place we go there we stay 00:21:43.940 --> 00:21:49.180 there there that night we wake up the next day and as we wake up I have this 00:21:49.180 --> 00:21:53.420 thing in my heart and Iris and I talk and the father is saying there is 00:21:53.420 --> 00:21:59.000 something that I want you to do today we don't know we talk about it we read the 00:21:59.000 --> 00:22:02.600 book of James where faith is dead without actions and we just know there 00:22:02.600 --> 00:22:06.800 is something that's awaiting us that evening or that day but we don't know 00:22:06.800 --> 00:22:11.780 what it is so we talk about it we pray we go down and have breakfast and as we 00:22:11.780 --> 00:22:17.800 are having
