00:00:13.520 --> 00:00:16.800 And so I want to remind you of something we said on Sunday. 00:00:16.800 --> 00:00:34.400 We said revival is knowing the greatness and the nearness of God. 00:00:34.400 --> 00:00:38.800 One of the things that happens in a revival is that you get to know the greatness and 00:00:38.800 --> 00:00:40.800 the nearness of God. 00:00:40.800 --> 00:00:47.120 One of the things that happens out of knowing both his greatness and his nearness is that 00:00:47.120 --> 00:00:54.400 it just ramps up your boldness. 00:00:54.400 --> 00:01:01.480 That is something the Spirit of God brings, because he alone can bring it. 00:01:01.480 --> 00:01:09.240 The New Testament, again and again, and the Old Testament, gives evidence of how whenever 00:01:09.240 --> 00:01:15.280 the Spirit of God fell, be it upon Samson or be it upon Saul or be it upon David, that 00:01:15.280 --> 00:01:21.280 there was a boldness that was unheard of. 00:01:21.280 --> 00:01:26.240 And so that's what we're going to talk about today, because we need this boldness for the 00:01:26.240 --> 00:01:27.960 revival that God is bringing. 00:01:27.960 --> 00:01:34.080 Guys, remember this is not for Acts 29, it's for the city, it's for the churches in this 00:01:34.080 --> 00:01:38.560 city, it's for other cities, it's for nations eventually. 00:01:38.560 --> 00:01:41.840 This so happens that it's being sparked here. 00:01:41.840 --> 00:01:51.960 So your cry should be for homes of other Christians that know the sudden awareness of God, both 00:01:51.960 --> 00:01:53.720 his greatness and his nearness. 00:01:53.720 --> 00:02:00.680 God does it sovereignly, that's the beauty in a revival, you don't have to do nothing. 00:02:00.680 --> 00:02:02.880 We talked about this yesterday. 00:02:02.880 --> 00:02:08.640 Jesus intercedes and the Holy Spirit pours himself with extraordinary power. 00:02:08.640 --> 00:02:15.520 So one of the things that's birthed in a revival is a people of great boldness, great boldness. 00:02:15.520 --> 00:02:20.040 And so knowing the greatness and the nearness of God brings great boldness. 00:02:20.040 --> 00:02:23.040 It happens with children too, knowing the greatness of their dad and the nearness of 00:02:23.040 --> 00:02:26.760 their dad always makes children bolder. 00:02:26.760 --> 00:02:31.360 They attempt things they would not attempt, because they know dad is there and he's big 00:02:31.520 --> 00:02:33.080 and he's very close. 00:02:36.080 --> 00:02:40.320 Some other words for boldness that the Bible uses are courage and strength. 00:02:45.680 --> 00:02:49.680 Both are words used for boldness. 00:02:49.680 --> 00:02:56.080 What we don't realize is that the word comforter, which is often what the Holy Spirit is known 00:02:56.160 --> 00:03:05.160 as, comes from two Latin words, comforte, as in with strength. 00:03:05.160 --> 00:03:11.160 So when we think of him as comforter, as in one whose shoulder you can cry on, it actually 00:03:11.160 --> 00:03:16.000 comes from this idea of someone who is with strength. 00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:19.920 That is the idea of comforter. 00:03:19.920 --> 00:03:26.640 So boldness, courage and strength is part of who the Holy Spirit is and he forms the 00:03:26.640 --> 00:03:33.160 people that are caught up in what God is sovereignly doing upon the earth into people that have 00:03:33.160 --> 00:03:34.160 unusual boldness. 00:03:34.160 --> 00:03:38.880 And so today what we're going to do is just pray for that boldness. 00:03:38.880 --> 00:03:41.880 That's all we'll be doing today, just praying for that boldness. 00:03:50.880 --> 00:03:53.880 Boldness for what? 00:03:53.880 --> 00:03:55.880 Boldness for what? 00:03:55.880 --> 00:04:03.880 I'd say the first thing is the boldness to wrestle with God. 00:04:08.880 --> 00:04:15.880 The boldness to wrestle with God, to not let go, to say if you don't change me, if you 00:04:16.840 --> 00:04:21.840 don't rename me, if you don't rename what you have promised, I will not let go. 00:04:21.840 --> 00:04:28.840 Your hip is out of joint, your hand is out of joint, you're holding on for dear life, 00:04:29.840 --> 00:04:36.840 but you will not let go because there's a new boldness upon you to insist on God delivering 00:04:38.040 --> 00:04:41.240 what he has promised and God likes that. 00:04:41.240 --> 00:04:43.080 I want this boldness. 00:04:43.280 --> 00:04:50.280 I've lost some of it when I was a beginner, as a believer, my God, man, I could sink my 00:04:50.280 --> 00:04:53.280 teeth into God and not let go. 00:04:53.280 --> 00:05:00.280 I want to be in that place again where I can go back to some of the things Jacob actually 00:05:00.280 --> 00:05:01.280 did. 00:05:01.280 --> 00:05:08.280 I desire that for us, say, you said, you said, oh God, you said, oh God, you said, oh God, 00:05:08.280 --> 00:05:10.000 you said, what? 00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:11.000 I'm not in alignment? 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:15.480 Okay, show me how to get into alignment, but you said, oh God, you said, I will not let 00:05:15.480 --> 00:05:19.840 go, you said you're bringing this revival, you said it, we wouldn't have started this, 00:05:19.840 --> 00:05:20.840 you said it. 00:05:20.840 --> 00:05:28.840 This ability, this boldness to wrestle with God, and as I pray, guys, may change your 00:05:28.840 --> 00:05:31.440 posture even as I pray. 00:05:31.440 --> 00:05:35.960 May you not slump and sit, may change your posture even as I pray. 00:05:35.960 --> 00:05:41.680 It is hard to preach these things and not have something happen within me. 00:05:41.680 --> 00:05:46.120 And that has not happening because I hear my voice because I hear it throughout the 00:05:46.120 --> 00:05:59.720 The terrible thing about wearing masks is I never know if you're smiling. 00:05:59.720 --> 00:06:04.080 So these jokes get worse by the minute because I really think you're actually laughing your 00:06:04.200 --> 00:06:06.000 head off behind the mask. 00:06:06.000 --> 00:06:12.320 So the first thing is to the boldness to wrestle with God, the boldness to wrestle with God. 00:06:12.320 --> 00:06:21.320 I pray that for us, say that this church and those that are walking with us and those that 00:06:21.320 --> 00:06:31.720 are listening to you, to us, will not try for a day, two days, seven days, eight days, 00:06:31.720 --> 00:06:35.060 and then decide, well, we gave it our best shot. 00:06:35.060 --> 00:06:38.440 This doesn't work like that. 00:06:38.440 --> 00:06:43.480 Elijah had already seen fire fall on Carmel. 00:06:43.480 --> 00:06:51.820 He had the faith required to stop the rain for three years and then to predict rain happening 00:06:51.820 --> 00:06:52.820 in a few hours. 00:06:52.820 --> 00:06:58.920 Yet, look at him, he goes up and he begins to cry out to God saying, you said, you said, 00:06:58.920 --> 00:07:01.360 he sends his servant down seven times. 00:07:01.360 --> 00:07:06.200 All he wants to see is a fist-sized cloud and then he'll go home happy. 00:07:06.200 --> 00:07:11.280 But till he sees that fist-sized cloud, he rolls up like a foetus on top of a mountain 00:07:11.280 --> 00:07:18.200 and will not get up till he sees the fist-sized cloud. 00:07:18.200 --> 00:07:24.400 There's something to boldness which carries in it heaven's conviction, boldness carries 00:07:24.400 --> 00:07:35.620 in it heaven's conviction, urgency. 00:07:35.620 --> 00:07:44.040 It carries in it heaven's conviction, urgency, voice, and completion. 00:07:44.040 --> 00:07:45.040 This is important. 00:07:45.040 --> 00:07:52.880 I pray God that we go back to this teaching in the future so that we don't flag in our 00:07:52.960 --> 00:07:56.400 zeal when these seven days are over. 00:07:56.400 --> 00:08:02.520 God only knows whether it's going to stop in seven days. 00:08:02.520 --> 00:08:05.520 One of the things boldness carries is heaven's conviction. 00:08:05.520 --> 00:08:10.600 It is impossible to be bold without a conviction from heaven that this is what I want you to 00:08:10.600 --> 00:08:13.480 be strong about, courageous about, bold about. 00:08:13.480 --> 00:08:18.800 I must know it inside of me and this is why we keep going back to the word that was spoken 00:08:18.800 --> 00:08:21.320 to us and say, this is what God is saying. 00:08:21.720 --> 00:08:26.240 And guys, I've read it at least 10, 11, 12 times and it still hasn't sunk in. 00:08:26.240 --> 00:08:31.440 It is so enormous that I'm not able to even remotely carry it, but I have to keep going 00:08:31.440 --> 00:08:37.840 back and reading it again and again and again. 00:08:37.840 --> 00:08:39.540 It carries heaven's conviction. 00:08:39.540 --> 00:08:44.040 It carries an urgency, meaning it sets your feet on fire. 00:08:44.040 --> 00:08:48.480 This is not something, tomorrow, tomorrow we won't be meeting here because the church 00:08:48.520 --> 00:08:53.120 is being used for some other service and so we won't be meeting here. 00:08:53.120 --> 00:08:56.600 But tomorrow, I'm not going to put my feet up. 00:08:56.600 --> 00:09:03.600 Tomorrow I'm going to call one or two people and pray my heart out as God shows and then 00:09:03.600 --> 00:09:05.800 look forward to day after. 00:09:05.800 --> 00:09:07.400 There's an urgency to this. 00:09:07.400 --> 00:09:10.040 Man, when revivals come, there is a timeframe. 00:09:10.040 --> 00:09:11.720 There is a definite timeframe. 00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:15.720 It isn't this flexy thing. 00:09:15.720 --> 00:09:22.720 There is a voice to revival. 00:09:25.040 --> 00:09:27.400 Words have to be spoken. 00:09:27.400 --> 00:09:33.040 Boldness loses momentum when proclamation to this. 00:11:02.520 --> 00:11:09.440 Barnera is a small island off the coast of Harris with a population of about 400. 00:11:09.440 --> 00:11:17.000 In April 1952, it was my privilege to visit this parish and witness one of the most remarkable 00:11:17.000 --> 00:11:19.280 movements of the revival. 00:11:19.280 --> 00:11:25.440 Here, as in other districts, there were men who on their faces demonstrate the power of the power of prevailing prayer 00:12:39.160 --> 00:12:45.080 and to reveal how true it is that the secret of the Lord is with them that fear him. 00:12:45.080 --> 00:12:49.560 One morning an elder of the Church of Scotland was greatly exercised in spirit. 00:12:49.560 --> 00:12:52.360 It's such old Englishy writing. 00:12:52.360 --> 00:12:56.480 One morning an elder of the Church of Scotland was greatly exercised in spirit as he thought 00:12:56.800 --> 00:13:01.320 of the state of the church and the growing carelessness towards Sabbath observance and 00:13:01.320 --> part in the faith mission convention at Bangor in Northern Ireland was suddenly arrested 00:16:26.580 --> 00:16:31.500 by the conviction that I must leave at once and go to the island of Bernera where I found 00:16:31.500 --> 00:16:34.080 myself within three days. 00:16:34.200 --> 00:16:39.160 Most immediately on arriving, I was in the midst of a most blessed movement. 00:16:39.160 --> 00:16:44.800 Again the promise was being fulfilled, I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods 00:16:44.800 --> 00:16:46.680 upon the dry ground. 00:16:46.680 --> 00:16:51.520 The first few meetings 00:17:21.440 the main road, the Spirit of God fell upon the people in Pentecostal power, no other 00:17:21.440 --> 00:17:25.600 word can describe it and in a few minutes the awareness of the presence of the Most 00:17:25.600 --> 00:17:30.760 High became so wonderful and subduing that one could say with Jacob of old, surely the 00:17:30.800 --> 00:17:33.360 Lord is in this place. 00:17:33.360 --> 00:17:38.200 There under open heavens and by the roadside, the voice of prayer was mingled with groans 00:17:38.200 --> 00:17:43.400 of the penitent as free grace awoke men with light from on high. the middle of something you will hear God saying go somewhere, you won't hesitate, 00:18:13.080 --> 00:18:20.080 you will step out in obedience, you will run and convey things without amending it, you will have to pay, maybe a lower 00:18:34.000 --> 00:18:41.000 salary, a loss of job, disapproval, doesn't matter how you may be disapproved, it doesn't 00:18:42.000 --> 00:18:49.000 matter what the threat is and what the intimidation is, this is what happens when the Holy Spirit 00:18:53.560 --> 00:18:56.000 shows up in times of revival. 00:18:56.000 --> 00:19:01.440 We'll read that in Acts chapter 4, verse 24 to 31 and then pray. 00:19:01.440 --> 00:19:07.440 So I'm calling you, I'm calling anybody who hears this, I'm calling you at Acts 29 and 00:19:07.640 --> 00:19:14.560 Vernon and in Bahrain and in Australia and in other places that is, this will be heard, 00:19:14.560 --> 00:19:21.200 step out of the shadows, step out of the shadows, step out of the winepress, step out of holding 00:19:21.200 --> 00:19:26.340 two opinions and trying to juggle them and see which one would be more advantageous, 00:19:26.340 --> 00:19:32.400 step out of the shallows, go deep and cast your net, step out of silence, step out of 00:19:32.600 --> 00:19:39.600 sitting on the fence, step out of timidity, step out of safety, step out of religion, 00:19:40.080 --> 00:19:46.320 step out of self-preservation, step out of analysis, step out of inaction, step out of 00:19:46.320 --> 00:19:51.320 waiting for things to work out, step out for conducive conditions, step out of cutoffs 00:19:51.320 --> 00:19:56.240 that if I make so much money then I will serve the Lord, if once I get this house then I 00:19:56.240 --> 00:20:00.760 will serve the Lord, once I get the business started then I will serve the Lord, no cutoffs, 00:20:00.760 --> 00:20:05.580 step out of the fear of money, step out of the fear of not taking care of your family, 00:20:05.580 --> 00:20:09.680 step out of the fear of work, step out of the fear of what your friends will think, 00:20:09.680 --> 00:20:16.680 step out of the fear of the unknown, I'm supposed to call out us from these things, step Let me go to Acts chapter 4, 24 to 31 and then we'll pray. 00:20:30.760 --> 00:20:37.760 Acts 4, 24 to 31. When they heard the report all the believers lifted their voices to the 00:21:00.880 --> 00:21:04.180 world together in prayer to God. 00:21:04.180 --> 00:21:11.180 Oh sovereign Lord, creator of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them, you spoke 00:21:11.920 --> 00:21:16.900 long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David your servant, saying, why were the nations 00:21:16.900 --> 00:21:21.460 so angry, why did they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepared 00:21:21.460 --> 00:21:26.400 for battle, the rulers gathered together against the Lord and against the Messiah. In fact 00:21:26.400 --> 00:21:32.640 This has happened here in this very city for Herod, Antipas, Pontius Pilate, the governor, 00:21:32.640 --> 00:21:37.320 the Gentiles and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, 00:21:37.320 --> 00:21:38.320 whom you anointed. 00:21:38.320 --> 00:21:42.200 But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will. 00:21:42.200 --> 00:21:47.540 And now, O Lord, hear their threats and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching 00:21:47.540 --> 00:21:48.540 your word. 00:21:48.540 --> 00:21:50.840 prayer, the meeting place shook and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:22:00.340 --> 00:22:03.740 Then they preached the word of God with boldness. 00:22:03.740 --> 00:22:07.700 So here are
