it was written by Moses. 00:00:17.920 --> 00:00:20.360 So it's a psalm by Moses. 00:00:20.360 --> 00:00:25.880 But before we go into that psalm, one of the things we have to do to grasp the psalm the 00:00:25.880 --> 00:00:29.560 way it is, is to hear with faith. 00:00:29.560 --> 00:00:32.400 To hear with faith. 00:00:32.400 --> 00:00:38.800 If you don't hear with faith, then many things in the Bible, many things that God says won't 00:00:38.800 --> 00:00:39.800 become a reality. 00:00:39.800 --> 00:00:40.800 We have to hear with faith. 00:00:40.800 --> 00:00:44.840 And so I want to talk about what does it look to hear with faith. 00:00:44.840 --> 00:00:46.440 We had talked about this in 2017. 00:00:46.440 --> 00:00:52.240 We felt it was time to just visit it again. 00:00:53.000 --> 00:00:58.400 How is it that Moses can say, even in the Old Testament, without having the Spirit indwell 00:00:58.400 --> 00:01:01.080 him like the Spirit of God indwells us? 00:01:01.080 --> 00:01:19.880 How is it that Moses, in Psalm 91, he's just brimming with doubt-free, confident expectation 00:01:19.880 --> 00:01:25.560 in God? 00:01:25.560 --> 00:01:31.080 Everything in that psalm is so absolutely sure that this is who God is, this is how 00:01:31.080 --> 00:01:32.360 He'll behave. 00:01:32.360 --> 00:01:36.520 Every declaration, He makes it so confident, so doubt-free. 00:01:36.520 --> 00:01:42.560 Part of it was based on his experience, but part of it was because he had this ability 00:01:42.560 --> 00:01:47.720 to both see God and to hear Him, but hear Him with faith. 00:01:47.720 --> 00:01:49.440 And I want to talk about that. 00:01:50.000 --> 00:02:02.440 Normal hearing is just the physical receiving of sounds. 00:02:02.440 --> 00:02:05.600 That's what most of us think of when we think of hearing. 00:02:05.600 --> 00:02:12.400 When we think of hearing, we think of physically receiving, physical receiving of sounds. 00:02:12.400 --> 00:02:13.920 So that's what's happening right now. 00:02:13.920 --> 00:02:15.800 I'm speaking and you can hear me. 00:02:15.840 --> 00:02:20.240 And so often, when we hear the Word of God or when we read the Word of God, that's how 00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:21.240 we take it in. 00:02:21.240 --> 00:02:23.240 We just hear the physical sound. 00:02:23.240 --> 00:02:25.080 But there's a difference. 00:02:25.080 --> 00:02:29.080 God says, can you hear with faith instead of just hearing? 00:02:29.080 --> 00:02:35.280 And the scriptures that go over it again and again, Galatians 3 talks about it, Hebrews 00:02:35.280 --> 00:02:38.320 4 talks about it, and we look at those scriptures. 00:02:38.320 --> 00:02:40.120 Can you not just hear? 00:02:40.120 --> 00:02:44.320 Can you hear with faith? 00:02:44.320 --> 00:02:54.000 At any moment, if we hear with faith, God's Word comes alive immediately in a way that 00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:56.400 is transforming immediately. 00:02:56.400 --> 00:03:01.640 And so hearing with our ears is just hearing physical sound. 00:03:01.640 --> 00:03:29.760 So hearing with faith would be receiving or accepting a report from God, about God, 00:03:29.760 --> 00:03:37.360 of God, immediately. 00:03:37.360 --> 00:03:59.720 First in your spirit, then in your soul, which is your emotions and mind, and then doing 00:03:59.720 --> 00:04:09.680 something about it with your body. 00:04:09.680 --> 00:04:14.080 This is why if you read the King James Version of Hebrews 11, 2, it talks about faith as 00:04:14.080 --> 00:04:16.160 a substance of things unseen. 00:04:16.160 --> 00:04:22.240 Then it says, the patriarchs of old or the heroes of the Old Testament obtained this 00:04:22.240 --> 00:04:26.760 faith by receiving a good report. 00:04:27.760 --> 00:04:32.240 And they would hear a report about God and instantly they were able to hear it and receive 00:04:32.240 --> 00:04:35.160 it. 00:04:35.160 --> 00:04:36.960 It wasn't just hearing with physical ears. 00:04:36.960 --> 00:04:40.320 They would hear it and they would instantly receive it. 00:04:40.320 --> 00:04:44.600 How does Abraham go to a burning bush and instantly receive all that God is saying? 00:04:44.600 --> 00:04:49.600 Yes, he hesitates, but his path was already set. 00:04:49.600 --> 00:04:52.520 How does Mary receive it? 00:04:52.520 --> 00:04:54.040 Zechariah couldn't, Mary did. 00:04:54.040 --> 00:04:58.160 The difference between Mary and Zechariah, even though the words were the same, both 00:04:58.160 --> 00:05:00.400 ask how can this be? 00:05:00.400 --> 00:05:06.600 But one receives it, one hears with faith, the other does not hear with faith. 00:05:06.600 --> 00:05:09.800 One who hears with faith births Christ. 00:05:09.800 --> 00:05:16.120 One who does not hear with faith goes dumb. 00:05:16.120 --> 00:05:17.520 That's the other thing. 00:05:17.520 --> 00:05:24.280 As we hear the word, if we do not receive it with faith and make a practice of not hearing 00:05:24.280 --> 00:05:29.000 with faith, over a period of time our hearts get dull. 00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:30.720 Sclerosis happens. 00:05:30.720 --> 00:05:33.040 The thickening of the heart happens. 00:05:33.040 --> 00:05:37.680 Faith therefore is an essential part of how I hear. 00:05:37.680 --> 00:05:44.560 How I hear the word, how I read the word, how I hear the Spirit of God have to continuously press towards. 00:06:12.840 --> 00:06:17.120 When I read the word, can I know things not by the mind? 00:06:17.160 --> 00:06:20.600 It's one of the curses of Western civilization. 00:06:20.600 --> 00:06:26.720 One of the curses of Western civilization, of enlightenment, of postmodernism. 00:06:26.720 --> 00:06:32.600 That we want to process everything and understand it with our minds. 00:06:32.600 --> 00:06:34.520 It's a curse. 00:06:34.520 --> 00:06:39.280 It's the same curse that befell Adam when he decided to eat of the tree of the knowledge 00:06:39.280 --> 00:06:40.440 of good and evil. 00:06:40.480 --> 00:06:44.360 Immediately reason, speculation and doubt entered. 00:06:47.240 --> 00:06:52.240 And so when God says something in the word, you receive it inside. 00:06:52.240 --> 00:06:55.880 Who here processed salvation? 00:06:55.880 --> 00:07:02.640 Anybody here came to the amazing conclusion that salvation, hmm, it works mentally. 00:07:02.640 --> 00:07:04.000 It does not work mentally. 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:06.800 A dead man does not rise. 00:07:06.800 --> 00:07:11.960 But somewhere inside you suddenly knew that our shucks, this is true. 00:07:11.960 --> 00:07:14.920 And since then, we've tried to process it. 00:07:14.920 --> 00:07:19.200 Christ's life is the processing of what we believe. 00:07:19.200 --> 00:07:21.040 The emotions will come and go. 00:07:21.040 --> 00:07:26.120 And then the body acts. 00:07:26.120 --> 00:07:30.080 So it's hearing has to be the hearing of faith. 00:07:31.080 --> 00:07:41.280 We'll try to make it a little, I mean, at the end of the day, the gospel is the gospel, 00:07:41.280 --> 00:07:42.280 for instance. 00:07:42.280 --> 00:07:57.600 Why does it say in Romans 10 that faith comes by hearing and hearing of the word? 00:07:57.600 --> 00:07:59.720 Why does it say that? 00:07:59.720 --> 00:08:11.320 Because at the end of the day, the gospel or the good news is a report about the life, 00:08:11.320 --> 00:08:20.760 death, resurrection of Christ. 00:08:20.760 --> 00:08:38.880 And when one hears this report, when one hears this report, depending on how they hear, by 00:08:38.880 --> 00:08:45.920 faith, they get saved. 00:08:45.920 --> 00:08:59.240 And the crazy thing is everyone is given the faith to believe. 00:08:59.240 --> 00:09:08.360 But not everyone hears with faith. 00:09:08.360 --> 00:09:10.840 Crazy, eh? 00:09:10.840 --> 00:09:16.920 There's not a human on earth who has not been provided by God the faith to be saved, not 00:09:16.920 --> 00:09:18.520 one human. 00:09:18.520 --> 00:09:24.480 Every human being on earth has been provided the faith that is required for salvation. 00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:27.480 Every human being. 00:09:27.480 --> 00:09:34.200 But not every human being hears the report of Jesus Christ with faith. 00:09:34.200 --> 00:09:36.640 Now move after being saved. 00:09:36.640 --> 00:09:38.560 After being saved is the same. 00:09:38.760 --> 00:09:45.160 Every one of us has been given the measure of faith to live out life like Christ. 00:09:45.160 --> 00:09:51.440 But not everyone hears the word or reads the word or hears the Holy that we receive 00:10:15.200 --> 00:10:20.840 now are the promises that were given to the Israelites in the Old Testament in the desert. 00:10:20.840 --> 00:10:26.080 And then it says, but they did not enter into rest because even though the promises were 00:10:26.080 --> 00:10:30.720 given, even though they heard the promises, and who did they hear it from? 00:10:30.760 --> 00:10:36.440 They heard it on Mount Sinai with the presence, the power and the glory of God settling on 00:10:36.440 --> 00:10:38.560 the mountain, visible. 00:10:38.560 --> 00:10:41.440 But it says they did not enter into rest. 00:10:41.440 --> 00:10:45.880 They could not receive those promises because they did not hear it with faith. 00:10:45.880 --> 00:10:52.320 As in they did not have, they did not exert the ability to trust God even though He was 00:10:52.320 --> 00:10:55.520 visible and even though He had provided it. 00:10:55.520 --> 00:11:02.600 It's something we just don't do. 00:11:02.600 --> 00:11:07.240 Everyone has the faith required to believe the promises of God which are yes and amen 00:11:07.240 --> 00:11:08.400 in Christ. 00:11:08.400 --> 00:11:11.920 But have you noticed how we don't? 00:11:11.920 --> 00:11:12.920 Why don't we? 00:11:12.920 --> 00:11:20.120 Part of the reason we don't is perhaps we haven't cultivated it, perhaps we haven't 00:11:20.320 --> 00:11:24.280 made a practice of immediately knowing in our spirit the things of God and stepping 00:11:24.280 --> 00:11:25.280 out. 00:11:25.280 --> 00:11:30.520 And so they couldn't, and so they didn't enter into the rest that they could have entered 00:11:30.520 --> 00:11:35.120 into. 00:11:35.120 --> 00:11:40.480 And so this idea of hearing with faith is important. 00:11:40.480 --> 00:11:47.840 Sometimes all it takes is one simple word or one sentence or one paragraph in a book 00:11:48.240 --> 00:11:55.240 or in even a teaching like this that can instantly affect our hearts to a point where it changes 00:11:55.240 --> 00:11:58.360 everything we believe. 00:11:58.360 --> 00:12:03.480 Everything we believe. 00:12:03.480 --> 00:12:06.640 We receive it here, we process it here. 00:12:06.640 --> 00:12:11.080 Our emotions work accordingly and our feet start moving. 00:12:11.080 --> 00:12:13.720 But I must hear with faith. 00:12:13.720 --> 00:12:17.600 Come out of your clan, out of your family, out of your nation, out of your people. 00:12:17.600 --> 00:12:20.640 He heard it and then he steps out. 00:12:20.640 --> 00:12:24.360 Hebrews 11, 8, not knowing where he was supposed to go, he steps out. 00:12:24.360 --> 00:12:25.360 Why? 00:12:25.360 --> 00:12:30.960 Because he knew in his spirit that this is God, a God he had never met, a God his father 00:12:30.960 --> 00:12:32.160 didn't believe in. 00:12:32.160 --> 00:12:35.520 Abraham's father, Terah, did not believe in it. 00:12:35.520 --> 00:12:39.360 But Abraham knew, even in the Old Testament, without the Spirit of God dwelling in him, 00:12:39.360 --> 00:12:43.720 he knew this is God. 00:12:43.720 --> 00:12:46.880 And so he steps out. 00:12:46.880 --> 00:12:48.840 Because he heard it with faith. 00:12:48.840 --> 00:12:52.320 And whenever you hear things with faith, it puts you right with God. 00:12:52.320 --> 00:12:59.300 Galatians 3, 7, whenever someone hears with faith, it is credited to him as thing or be it a large thing, you immediately 00:13:06.440 --> 00:13:07.920 get put right with God. 00:13:07.920 --> 00:13:11.040 And there's no better place than being put right with God. is it not, is it a choice we make to hear with faith? 00:13:24.320 --> 00:13:25.320 Yes. 00:13:25.320 --> 00:13:28.320 So how do we make that choice then? 00:13:28.320 --> 00:13:31.320 What's what determines that? 00:13:31.320 --> 00:13:32.320 Yeah. 00:13:32.320 --> 00:13:35.240 Let me give you an example from normal life. 00:13:36.240 --> 00:13:42.040 You can hear your husband with a loving heart or you can hear him with a neutral heart or 00:13:42.040 --> 00:13:44.880 you can hear him with an irritated heart. 00:13:44.880 --> 00:13:47.600 These are choices we make every day. 00:13:47.600 --> 00:13:50.760 And then it doesn't matter what your husband says. 00:13:50.760 --> 00:13:55.920 If you have a heart that hears with love, it is able to take the words, be they bitter, 00:13:55.920 --> 00:13:59.880 sweet or neutral, and you respond differently. 00:13:59.880 --> 00:14:02.360 It's the same way with God. 00:14:02.360 --> 00:14:03.600 It's the same way with God. 00:14:03.600 --> 00:14:09.920 When God speaks, if my heart is in a place where my past experience has taught me that 00:14:09.920 --> 00:14:16.520 he is faithful, where the word, because it's gorged with the Holy Spirit, comes alive for 00:14:16.520 --> 00:14:23.520 me and because I want to know him and grow in him, suddenly my heart is in a receptive 00:14:23.520 --> 00:14:28.720 place to say, yes, even if this costs me, I will. 00:14:28.720 --> 00:14:32.880 These are choices we make every day. 00:14:32.880 --> 00:14:35.880 And we'll get opportunities every day. 00:14:35.880 --> 00:14:40.360 Don't look at the opportunities of yesterday that you have missed out on and think, our 00:14:40.360 --> 00:14:42.560 shucks, all is lost. 00:14:42.560 --> 00:14:46.520 No, tomorrow 00:15:33.580 What it means there is, even when God says something prophetically to you, you can either 00:15:33.580 --> 00:15:42.100 hear it with faith that this is Christ speaking and even though it's so outlandish, I receive 00:15:42.100 --> 00:15:50.420 it or you can go with the attitude that, I'm not saying don't wait, definitely wait, but 00:15:50.420 --> 00:15:55.980 you can either go with the attitude of this is God speaking and I receive it or let me 00:15:56.460 --> 00:15:58.660 see. 00:15:58.660 --> 00:16:04.780 And what then happens is when you know it is God and you receive 00:16:33.500 hands on me and he said, young man, I was young then, young man, he said, I stir up 00:16:35.660 --> 00:16:41.280 within you the gift of faith and didn't know anything about it but this --> 00:19:21.140 The word of God gives us an understanding of the character and the nature of God. 00:19:21.140 --> 00:19:24.740 The more you understand the character and the nature of someone the
