00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:46.000 The place where your treasure is is the place you will most want to be and end up being. 00:02:46.000 --> 00:02:48.000 It's obvious, isn't it? 00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:54.000 The place where your treasure is is the place you will most want to be and end up being. 00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:56.000 Your eyes are windows into your body. 00:02:56.000 --> 00:03:02.000 If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body lights up with light. 00:03:02.000 --> 00:03:08.000 If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. 00:03:08.000 --> 00:03:12.000 If you pull the blinds on your window, what a dark life you will have. 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:14.000 You can't worship two gods at once. 00:03:14.000 --> 00:03:17.000 Loving one god, you'll end up hating the other. 00:03:17.000 --> 00:03:21.000 Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. 00:03:21.000 --> 00:03:25.000 You can't worship God and money both. 00:03:25.000 --> 00:03:28.000 Let me shift to an IV. 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:35.000 Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, what you will drink, about your body, what you will wear. 00:03:35.000 --> 00:03:40.000 It's not life more than food and body and the body more than clothes. 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:41.000 Look at the birds of the air. 00:03:41.000 --> 00:03:47.000 They do not sow nor reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. 00:03:47.000 --> 00:03:49.000 This is Jesus speaking, eh? 00:04:06.000 --> 00:04:10.000 Can any of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life? 00:04:12.000 --> 00:04:14.000 And why do you worry about clothes? 00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:16.000 See how the flowers of the field grow. 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:17.000 They do not labor or spin. 00:04:17.000 --> 00:04:21.000 When Jesus is talking about clothes, those were the important things at that time. 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:23.000 What you wear, where you live, what you eat. 00:04:23.000 --> 00:04:25.000 For us, it's gotten more complicated. 00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:29.000 So just because you may not be worried about your clothes doesn't mean this isn't speaking to you. 00:04:29.000 --> 00:04:31.000 Yeah? 00:04:31.000 --> 00:04:35.000 Because very few people at Act 29 are worried about their clothes. 00:04:35.000 --> 00:04:37.000 Hmm. 00:04:37.000 --> 00:04:41.000 So... 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:53.000 No, I saw this gentleman walking because he was a pastor. 00:04:53.000 --> 00:04:56.000 And I looked at him and I looked at you and I thought, hmm. 00:04:57.000 --> 00:04:59.000 Yeah. 00:04:59.000 --> 00:05:01.000 So do not worry about your clothes. 00:05:01.000 --> 00:05:03.000 See how the flowers of the field grow. 00:05:03.000 --> 00:05:04.000 They do not labor or spin. 00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:09.000 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 00:05:09.000 --> 00:05:14.000 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, 00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:18.000 will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? 00:05:18.000 --> 00:05:22.000 So do not worry saying, what shall we eat, what shall we drink, what shall we wear? 00:05:22.000 --> 00:05:27.000 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly father knows that you need them. 00:05:27.000 --> 00:05:31.000 But seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 00:05:31.000 --> 00:05:35.000 Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. 00:05:35.000 --> 00:05:38.000 Each day has enough trouble of its own. 00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:40.000 These are Jesus' words. 00:05:40.000 --> 00:05:44.000 Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. 00:05:44.000 --> 00:05:46.000 Each day has enough trouble of its own. 00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:47.000 Yeah? 00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:51.000 So that's the passage we'll be borrowing from as we talk about this. 00:05:51.000 --> 00:05:55.000 So basically what it outlines is a disciple's attitude. 00:05:55.000 --> 00:05:59.000 A disciple's attitude to material possession. 00:05:59.000 --> 00:06:03.000 A disciple's attitude to material possession. 00:06:03.000 --> 00:06:07.000 That's what it's outlining. 00:06:07.000 --> 00:06:13.000 So this word is important here because it's not a Christian's attitude. 00:06:13.000 --> 00:06:15.000 It's a disciple's attitude. 00:06:15.000 --> 00:06:19.000 A Christian's attitude and a disciple's attitude will be different, guys. 00:06:19.000 --> 00:06:21.000 A Christian's attitude. 00:06:21.000 --> 00:06:27.000 You know, it's almost impossible for materialism and capitalism not to clash with the kingdom at some point. 00:06:27.000 --> 00:06:29.000 There will be conflict. 00:06:29.000 --> 00:06:33.000 It's almost impossible for them to walk together. 00:06:33.000 --> 00:06:35.000 So I'm not talking about a Christian's attitude to money. 00:06:35.000 --> 00:06:37.000 I'm talking about a disciple's attitude to money. 00:06:37.000 --> 00:06:46.000 So make that distinction as we go around because you'll find today that many times we are Christian, we're not necessarily disciples. 00:06:46.000 --> 00:06:48.000 There is a distinction. 00:06:48.000 --> 00:06:53.000 And in our lives we'll find that on many occasions that we are Christian, but we are not disciples. 00:06:53.000 --> 00:06:58.000 In many different areas you'll find that. 00:06:58.000 --> 00:07:04.000 So a disciple's attitude to material possession is what we are talking about. 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:06.000 So what is Jesus' expectation? 00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:11.000 Here are Jesus' expectations of a disciple. 00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:19.000 One, he expects them to be subjects, to be subjects of God's kingdom, of God's kingship. 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:23.000 He expects them to be subjects of God's kingship. 00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:25.000 Every word here is so important. 00:07:25.000 --> 00:07:26.000 Subject. 00:07:26.000 --> 00:07:27.000 Not even citizen. 00:07:27.000 --> 00:07:28.000 Subject. 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:33.000 It's slightly above slave. 00:07:33.000 --> 00:07:35.000 We love being sons and daughters of God. 00:07:35.000 --> 00:07:40.000 We hate being slaves and subjects and servants of God because it changes everything. 00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:42.000 But we are supposed to be both. 00:07:42.000 --> 00:07:48.000 So one of the things he's saying is if you're a disciple, Jacob, then I have certain expectations. 00:07:48.000 --> 00:07:52.000 And one of my expectations is that you'll be subject to my kingship. 00:07:52.000 --> 00:07:55.000 Subject to my kingship. 00:07:55.000 --> 00:08:02.000 Even to break that down is so difficult because we don't live in a monarchy. 00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:04.000 So we don't understand. 00:08:04.000 --> 00:08:06.000 You're subject to kingship. 00:08:06.000 --> 00:08:09.000 If I say that women cannot drive, then women will not drive. 00:08:09.000 --> 00:08:14.000 If I say that men cannot wear shoes, men will not wear shoes. 00:08:14.000 --> 00:08:16.000 I was in a kingdom, not in the Middle East. 00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:22.000 I was in a kingdom some time ago where the king declared that you will not eat meat. 00:08:22.000 --> 00:08:28.000 I just happened to land up there when the king declared that. 00:08:28.000 --> 00:08:33.000 All I had for four days was vegetables. 00:08:33.000 --> 00:08:36.000 Yeah. 00:08:36.000 --> 00:08:41.000 And then I remember in the same kingdom he declared that men cannot wear pants. 00:08:41.000 --> 00:08:44.000 If you are a citizen, you cannot wear pants. 00:08:44.000 --> 00:08:46.000 You think I'm kidding? I'm not kidding. 00:08:46.000 --> 00:08:50.000 So men can't wear pants. So all the men came there. They weren't wearing pants. 00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:52.000 So what were they wearing? They had to wear long robes. 00:08:52.000 --> 00:08:54.000 Our taxi driver had pants on. 00:08:54.000 --> 00:08:59.000 And the cops would come and look into the taxi to see if he had pants on underneath. 00:08:59.000 --> 00:09:04.000 And so he would roll up his pants right till here when he'd see cops coming. 00:09:04.000 --> 00:09:09.000 I'm not sustaining stories, but the point is this, that if you are subject to kingship, 00:09:09.000 --> 00:09:16.000 then you do not have a choice in this matter. 00:09:16.000 --> 00:09:21.000 We don't think like that because we live in amazing democracies, right? 00:09:21.000 --> 00:09:23.000 We don't think like this. 00:09:23.000 --> 00:09:26.000 So that's an expectation he has. 00:09:26.000 --> 00:09:28.000 I pray God that this hits us really hard. 00:09:28.000 --> 00:09:32.000 Last week I was preaching. I was preaching to myself. 00:09:32.000 --> 00:09:35.000 This is what was required. I cannot delay obedience. 00:09:35.000 --> 00:09:38.000 This week I'm preaching. I'm again preaching to myself. 00:09:38.000 --> 00:09:43.000 I hope it hits you and hits me. 00:09:43.000 --> 00:09:45.000 Subject to God's kingship. 00:09:45.000 --> 00:09:59.000 Next one. He has an expectation that you will prioritize spiritual allegiance 00:09:59.000 --> 00:10:08.000 to material security. 00:10:08.000 --> 00:10:14.000 That you will prioritize it where there is just no contention, no struggle, 00:10:14.000 --> 00:10:21.000 no should I, should I not. It is an easy choice. 00:10:21.000 --> 00:10:25.000 Do you prioritize it over material security? 00:10:25.000 --> 00:10:30.000 Yeah. Prioritize spiritual allegiance over material security. 00:10:30.000 --> 00:10:38.000 Over material security. 00:10:38.000 --> 00:10:42.000 To prioritize it. So there's never a struggle. 00:10:42.000 --> 00:10:44.000 That's what happens with priority. 00:10:44.000 --> 00:10:47.000 If I prioritize, nothing is a struggle. 00:10:47.000 --> 00:10:51.000 Because I prioritized it. 00:10:51.000 --> 00:10:53.000 This is his expectation. 00:10:53.000 --> 00:10:59.000 Another expectation that the assurance of his goodness, 00:10:59.000 --> 00:11:14.000 the assurance of his goodness is enough for your cares 00:11:14.000 --> 00:11:21.000 and material needs being taken care of. 00:11:21.000 --> 00:11:23.000 I know enough is spelled wrong. 00:11:23.000 --> 00:11:29.000 The assurance of his goodness is enough for your cares 00:11:29.000 --> 00:11:31.000 and material needs being taken care of. 00:11:31.000 --> 00:11:37.000 That there is an expectation that Jacob, I'm your father. I am good. 00:11:37.000 --> 00:11:41.000 I know what you need before you even know it. 00:11:41.000 --> 00:11:44.000 I provide before you ask for it. 00:11:44.000 --> 00:11:48.000 You must be assured of my goodness and stop chasing after, 00:11:48.000 --> 00:11:53.000 even wasting time praying sometimes for the things that I know you need 00:11:53.000 --> 00:11:57.000 and as a good father, I intend to supply. 00:11:57.000 --> 00:12:01.000 This is an expectation of disciples, of Christians, no. 00:12:01.000 --> 00:12:04.000 Who do you want to be? Who do I want to be? 00:12:04.000 --> 00:12:06.000 Do I want to be a Christian when it comes to money? 00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:09.000 Or do I want to be a disciple? It changes everything. 00:12:09.000 --> 00:12:12.000 May I suggest to you that many of us flip-flop between it. 00:12:12.000 --> 00:12:17.000 In this church, right now, in this room. 00:12:17.000 --> 00:12:36.000 Fourth, he calls us to uncalculating generosity. 00:12:36.000 --> 00:12:42.000 Uncalculating generosity. 00:12:42.000 --> 00:12:48.000 He calls us to uncalculating generosity. 00:12:48.000 --> 00:12:54.000 Sometimes I bet he regrets saying, Tithes 10%. 00:12:54.000 --> 00:13:02.000 That's Christian. 00:13:02.000 --> 00:13:09.000 It's on this basis that he says, hey, when you pray, pray, give us this day our daily bread. 00:13:09.000 --> 00:13:12.000 Whenever he says pray a certain way, what he's trying to say is, 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:14.000 this is who I am, this is what I'm going to do, 00:13:14.000 --> 00:13:18.000 but pray so that I can do it for you and you realize it's me doing it. 00:13:18.000 --> 00:13:21.000 So another way of saying, give us this day our daily bread is, 00:13:21.000 --> 00:13:23.000 you give us this day our daily bread. 00:13:23.000 --> 00:13:25.000 That's the statement we are making. 00:13:25.000 --> 00:13:29.000 You give us this day our daily bread. 00:13:29.000 --> 00:13:32.000 If we have that assurance of Matthew 6.11, 00:13:32.000 --> 00:13:36.000 then we can also have the assurance of Matthew 6.33. 00:13:36.000 --> 00:13:41.000 That since you give us our daily bread anyways, because you are Father and you are good, 00:13:41.000 --> 00:13:45.000 therefore it is very easy for me to seek your kingdom and your righteousness, 00:13:45.000 --> 00:13:54.000 because all the other things called daily bread are being taken care of you by anyways. 00:13:54.000 --> 00:13:58.000 Any questions? 00:14:12.000 --> 00:14:21.000 In about 14 minutes, 33 seconds. 00:14:21.000 --> 00:14:26.000 And Jesus says, so stop storing up for yourself, 00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:37.000 so stop storing up for yourself treasures on earth, treasures on earth. 00:14:37.000 --> 00:14:40.000 Stop storing up for yourself treasures on earth. 00:14:40.000 --> 00:14:42.000 What's he trying to do? 00:14:42.000 --> 00:14:45.000 Hey Jacob, can you reorient the way you think? 00:14:45.000 --> 00:15:03.000 Reorient the way you think from one type to the acquisition of something else. 00:15:03.000 --> 00:15:06.000 The reason stewardship programs in churches are successful 00:15:06.000 --> 00:15:09.000 is because they are basically telling you how to make money 00:15:09.000 --> 00:15:17.000 and so that when you turn 65, you will still have money to bless others and to keep tithing. 00:15:17.000 --> 00:15:23.000 It's highly irresponsible, because it's not the disciples' way of living. 00:15:23.000 --> 00:15:26.000 But Jacob, in Proverbs it also says, 00:15:26.000 --> 00:15:29.000 you will well condition your thoughts and pay attention to them. 00:15:29.000 --> 00:15:33.000 Yeah, which we talked about in Prosperity 1 and Prosperity 2. 00:15:33.000 --> 00:15:35.000 Well elaborated in both. 00:15:35.000 --> 00:15:39.000 I'm not good to sometimes I go and listen to what I've already spoken. 00:15:39.000 --> 00:15:42.000 And this is why we need three, four parts to this, 00:15:42.000 --> 00:15:44.000 because you can't bring it together in one. 00:15:44.000 --> 00:15:46.000 In Prosperity 2, we talked about, 00:15:46.000 --> 00:15:48.000 check the condition of your hearts and flocks, 00:15:48.000 --> 00:15:51.000 leave an inheritance for your children. 00:15:51.000 --> 00:15:53.000 We talked about those things. 00:15:53.000 --> 00:15:56.000 So we've got to put this, hold it all together. 00:15:56.000 --> 00:15:58.000 It is never this or that. 00:15:58.000 --> 00:16:03.000 It is always together. 00:16:03.000 --> 00:16:05.000 And in the church, and I'll talk about it a little later, 00:16:05.000 --> 00:16:07.000 in the church there have to be two types. 00:16:07.000 --> 00:16:09.000 Some who divest themselves of everything, 00:16:09.000 --> 00:16:11.000 and others who do not divest themselves of everything, 00:16:11.000 --> 00:16:15.000 so that they can supply those that have divested themselves. 00:16:19.000 --> 00:16:21.000 This is where we are heading, guys. 00:16:21.000 --> 00:16:24.000 This is where Jesus went. 00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:29.000 One type as in holding treasures of the earth is what Jesus is calling one type, 00:16:29.000 --> 00:16:32.000 and gathering treasures of heaven is the other type. 00:16:32.000 --> 00:16:37.000 So he's asking us to reorient from what it means to gather treasures of the earth 00:16:37.000 --> 00:16:40.000 to treasures of heaven. 00:16:55.000 --> 00:16:59.000 So why is he asking us to reorient?
