00:02:31.460 whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land which I swore to Abraham, 00:02:31.460 --> 00:02:34.900 Isaac and Jacob saying, to your offspring I will give it. 00:02:34.980 --> 00:02:39.220 And he repeats what he says in Exodus 23, I will send an angel before you and I will 00:02:39.220 --> 00:02:43.020 drive out the Canaanites, the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, 00:02:43.020 --> 00:02:44.820 the Heavites and the Jebusites. 00:02:44.820 --> 00:02:50.020 Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you lest I consume 00:02:50.020 --> 00:02:52.260 you on the way for you are a stiff necked people. 00:02:52.620 --> 00:03:08.020 And that is what then begins Moses' conversation with God where he says in verse 15, here's 00:03:08.020 --> 00:03:14.420 what Moses says, if your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. 00:03:14.420 --> 00:03:18.860 If your presence does not go with us, do not bring me out of here. 00:03:19.460 --> 00:03:26.460 And so at some point Moses realizes that even though all this time God has sent an angel 00:03:26.460 --> 00:03:32.980 to lead them, even though all this time there's an angel with the name of, with God's name 00:03:32.980 --> 00:03:36.940 that has been leading them, Moses is saying, hey it's not enough. 00:03:36.940 --> 00:03:44.740 Moses didn't have this problem earlier, but an angel is not enough. 00:03:44.740 --> 00:03:49.940 He knows that going forward is only possible with presence. 00:03:49.940 --> 00:03:51.380 Gifts are not enough. 00:03:51.380 --> 00:03:55.300 Evangelism is not enough. 00:03:55.300 --> 00:03:58.540 Having an ability to speak to people is not enough. 00:03:58.540 --> 00:04:03.460 Knowing the four laws of the Roman road is not enough. 00:04:03.460 --> 00:04:09.140 Having success in the past is not enough. 00:04:09.140 --> 00:04:10.940 Having mantra is not enough. 00:04:10.940 --> 00:04:14.420 Having an amazing opening with gifted celebrities is not enough. 00:04:15.100 --> 00:04:21.140 The only thing that Moses is willing to leave with, even though he can get the same end 00:04:21.140 --> 00:04:25.500 with the angel, he's refusing it. 00:04:25.500 --> 00:04:26.900 That's a strange thing. 00:04:26.900 --> 00:04:29.100 The end goal he's going to achieve. 00:04:29.100 --> 00:04:31.500 I have promised this land to your fathers. 00:04:31.500 --> 00:04:33.020 I'm going to give it to you. 00:04:33.020 --> 00:04:35.500 Exodus 23, 20, I'll send an angel with you. 00:04:35.500 --> 00:04:36.900 He's been with you all this time. 00:04:36.900 --> 00:04:39.020 In 33 he's reiterating the same thing. 00:04:39.020 --> 00:04:40.380 I'm sending that angel with you. 00:04:40.380 --> 00:04:41.900 I'm not withdrawing that angel. 00:04:41.900 --> 00:04:43.660 You will still enter the promised land. 00:04:43.700 --> 00:04:45.580 I will still keep my promise. 00:04:45.580 --> somewhere inside to the point where we respond the same way. 00:05:03.060 --> 00:05:09.340 It ain't enough if presence is, if an awareness of presence isn't there. 00:05:09.340 --> 00:05:10.860 It ain't enough. 00:05:11.860 --> 00:05:19.860 One of the sentences that I preach that has ruined my life is periodic presence, 00:05:19.860 --> 00:05:25.660 periodic awareness of presence was never God's design for man. 00:05:25.660 --> 00:05:30.420 Periodic awareness of presence was never God's design for Jacob. 00:05:30.420 --> 00:05:37.300 Periodic awareness of presence was never God's design the bar high because there's a Christ bar that is so high that is always outside our grasp, 00:06:21.420 --> 00:06:24.420 but within our reach if we press in. 00:06:27.420 --> 00:06:29.420 Those are the two ways to do this. 00:06:31.420 --> 00:06:35.420 And so like Moses, you must be convinced in your heart. 00:06:35.420 --> 00:06:36.420 I must be convinced. 00:06:36.540 --> 00:06:37.540 I've been doing this for 34 years. 00:06:37.540 --> 00:06:39.540 Someone asked me this morning when I got born again. 00:06:39.540 --> 00:06:42.540 And I realized I was 24 then. 00:06:42.540 --> 00:06:43.540 I'm 58 now. 00:06:45.540 --> 00:06:46.540 Yeah. 00:06:47.540 --> 00:06:49.540 34 years I've been born again. 00:06:49.540 --> 00:06:52.540 34 years. 00:06:52.540 --> 00:06:57.540 And then you suddenly think to yourself, okay, have you settled for the experience you have, 00:06:57.540 --> 00:07:03.540 for the gifts you have, for the skill you have, for the fact that you've been doing this for 30 years? 00:07:03.660 --> 00:07:06.660 And obviously I do it well, but have you settled for that? 00:07:08.660 --> 00:07:12.660 The only thing Moses was saying is, I don't care that you're going to fulfill your promise. 00:07:12.660 --> 00:07:14.660 I don't care that you're faithful. 00:07:14.660 --> 00:07:16.660 I don't care that you are going to give us the land that you promised. 00:07:16.660 --> 00:07:19.660 I don't care that it is flowing with land, a land flowing with milk and honey. 00:07:19.660 --> 00:07:24.660 I don't care that you're sending an angel that has been with us for all this time. 00:07:28.660 --> 00:07:32.660 If you want me to be involved in this, then I will not go if your presence does not go with me. 00:07:33.660 --> 00:07:40.660 And that should somehow worm itself into the very core of your solar plexus, 00:07:40.660 --> 00:07:43.660 which is this amazing place inside here. 00:07:43.660 --> 00:07:47.660 I don't know, I remember talking about it, studying it again 34 years ago. 00:07:48.660 --> 00:07:53.660 It should be somewhere deep in your core that, Father, everything I do, 00:07:53.660 --> 00:07:59.660 including what I'm doing right now before you, must come only from presence or otherwise. 00:07:59.660 --> 00:08:01.660 It's a mixture. 00:08:01.780 --> 00:08:03.780 It's a mixture. 00:08:07.780 --> 00:08:12.780 The strange thing about Moses is, when he talks about presence, he uses two words. 00:08:12.780 --> 00:08:17.780 How will they know that I am your people? 00:08:17.780 --> 00:08:20.780 And that should be your phrase too. 00:08:20.780 --> 00:08:25.780 It cannot be, how will they know if your presence doesn't go with me? 00:08:25.780 --> 00:08:28.780 How will they know that I am special to you? 00:08:28.900 --> 00:08:34.900 He never says I alone, nor does he say people. 00:08:34.900 --> 00:08:36.900 He always joins it. 00:08:36.900 --> 00:08:42.900 How will they know that I am your people are not distinct, are not special? 00:08:42.900 --> 00:08:45.900 And that must be your phraseology too. 00:08:46.900 --> 00:08:53.900 Oh God, if this is not the core of my being, then how will they know that I, 00:08:53.900 --> 00:08:56.900 because he deals with it individually. 00:08:57.020 --> 00:09:00.020 Sometimes it just takes one person to change everything. 00:09:00.020 --> 00:09:05.020 How will they know that I and your people, they cannot be separated? 00:09:05.020 --> 00:09:09.020 You separate that and presence doesn't work. 00:09:09.020 --> 00:09:12.020 Crazy, presence doesn't work when you separate that. 00:09:19.020 --> 00:09:22.020 Presence doesn't work if they separate that. 00:09:27.020 --> 00:09:38.020 What good is presence to Judah, to Isabel? 00:09:38.020 --> 00:09:48.020 If it isn't with their family, what good is it? 00:09:57.020 --> 00:10:03.020 And then the Lord replies in Exodus 33, 14. 00:10:03.020 --> 00:10:06.020 And here is God. 00:10:06.020 --> 00:10:11.020 I mean the way Moses could change God's mind fascinates me. 00:10:11.020 --> 00:10:13.020 What was it? 00:10:13.020 --> 00:10:15.020 Did he know how God was thinking? 00:10:15.020 --> 00:10:17.020 Did he know the nature of God? 00:10:17.020 --> 00:10:22.020 How is it that he is always able to argue and change God's mind? 00:10:22.020 --> 00:10:25.020 Isn't God's mind unchanging? 00:10:25.140 --> 00:10:28.140 Isn't God very sure of his decisions? 00:10:28.140 --> 00:10:29.140 Does he dilly-dally? 00:10:29.140 --> 00:10:32.140 Does he go one way once and then another way another time? 00:10:33.140 --> 00:10:44.140 But Moses had this amazing in into God, partly because of the time that he would spend with God face to face. 00:10:44.260 --> 00:10:56.260 I know you know this, but the word presence and face come from the same word, panim. 00:11:00.260 --> 00:11:04.260 Presence and face have the same Hebrew word, panim. 00:11:04.260 --> 00:11:10.260 So why is Moses able to figure out how to change God's mind? 00:11:10.380 --> 00:11:19.380 In Exodus 33, when you start reading it, it says Moses had this habit of taking a tent and pitching it outside the camp. 00:11:19.380 --> 00:11:20.380 He had a habit of it. 00:11:20.380 --> 00:11:22.380 He would pitch this tent outside the camp. 00:11:22.380 --> 00:11:23.380 Why? 00:11:23.380 --> 00:11:25.380 Because that's where he would go and meet God. 00:11:25.380 --> 00:11:31.380 And when Moses would enter the tent, the pillar of cloud would move over the tent. 00:11:31.380 --> 00:11:37.380 And Moses and God would talk face to face as one talks to his friend. 00:11:37.500 --> 00:11:43.500 And then when he would come out, all Israel would stand and watch. 00:11:43.500 --> 00:11:45.500 And Moses would come back to the camp. 00:11:45.500 --> 00:11:49.500 But Joshua would still stay at the tent. 00:11:49.500 --> 00:11:51.500 Shows you a couple of things. 00:11:51.500 --> 00:11:57.500 One, if you have gotten into the practice of presence and if you know how to access God, 00:11:57.500 --> 00:11:59.500 take someone with you and help them learn it too. 00:12:01.500 --> 00:12:03.500 It is not meant just for you. 00:12:03.500 --> 00:12:06.500 There is nothing in Christendom that is meant just for you. 00:12:06.620 --> 00:12:11.620 It is always supposed to be go forth, multiply, replenish, subdue. 00:12:12.620 --> 00:12:13.620 Everything. 00:12:13.620 --> 00:12:16.620 There must be nothing that belongs to you. 00:12:16.620 --> 00:12:19.620 Everything is relationally to be deposited. 00:12:21.620 --> 00:12:22.620 Nothing that belongs to you. 00:12:22.620 --> 00:12:24.620 You must leave the earth empty. 00:12:24.620 --> 00:12:26.620 You must leave the earth empty. 00:12:36.620 --> 00:12:38.620 I will leave the earth empty. 00:12:42.620 --> 00:12:45.620 Nothing is just for you. 00:12:45.620 --> 00:12:51.620 So we see then that Moses takes Joshua and goes to the tent of meeting. 00:12:51.620 --> 00:12:54.620 Why? Because he knew, he knew before Joshua knew, 00:12:54.620 --> 00:12:58.620 that he was a kid who would one day end up taking my place. 00:12:58.740 --> 00:13:00.740 Was Joshua being treated specially? 00:13:00.740 --> 00:13:04.740 No, Joshua would be thrown into the worst places by Moses. 00:13:10.740 --> 00:13:16.740 And then Joshua would wait and he would see this God that Moses had just spoken to face to face. 00:13:18.740 --> 00:13:22.740 And because Moses had this kind of an intimacy face to face relationship with God, 00:13:22.860 --> 00:13:25.860 Moses always knew when God would not change and when God would change 00:13:25.860 --> 00:13:28.860 and when he would find any opening, he would take advantage of it. 00:13:30.860 --> 00:13:31.860 Some kids know it, eh? 00:13:34.860 --> 00:13:35.860 They know it. 00:13:38.860 --> 00:13:41.860 This is the difference between religion and relationship. 00:13:41.860 --> 00:13:45.860 We just say religion and relationship as in Christianity is not about religion. 00:13:45.860 --> 00:13:48.860 We just say religion and relationship as in Christianity is not about religion. 00:13:48.980 --> 00:13:53.980 We just say religion and relationship as in Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship. 00:13:53.980 --> 00:13:58.980 Actually, Christianity is a religion, but in that religion, there is a relationship. 00:14:01.980 --> 00:14:05.980 That relationship continuously progresses till you know how God thinks. 00:14:08.980 --> 00:14:10.980 Till you know how God thinks. 00:14:13.980 --> 00:14:16.980 And that comes only through continuous engagement. 00:14:18.980 --> 00:14:21.980 And based on sheer biblical evidence, 00:14:21.980 --> 00:14:25.980 you come to know it through watching others interact with God. 00:14:29.980 --> 00:14:33.980 Leave any of those elements out and you are the poorest person on earth 00:14:36.980 --> 00:14:37.980 as a Christian. 00:14:38.100 --> 00:14:43.100 And so Moses begins to have this conversation with God saying, 00:14:43.100 --> 00:14:48.100 hey, but I just want you to know that I'm not going to leave 00:14:48.100 --> 00:14:49.100 if your presence doesn't come in. 00:14:49.100 --> 00:14:54.100 So in Exodus 33, 14, Yahweh, the king of the universe, 00:14:54.100 --> 00:14:57.100 who later on says to Moses, enough, do not talk anymore. 00:14:57.100 --> 00:15:00.100 Because Moses says, be quiet, I'm going to leave. 00:15:00.100 --> 00:15:02.100 And he says, I'm going to leave. 00:15:02.100 --> 00:15:04.100 And he says, I'm going to leave. 00:15:04.220 --> 00:15:07.220 Who later on says to Moses, enough, do not talk anymore. 00:15:07.220 --> 00:15:10.220 Because Moses says, please, can I go into the promised land? 00:15:10.220 --> 00:15:12.220 God is saying, hey, go up the mountain, you're coming home. 00:15:12.220 --> 00:15:14.220 You did not hallow me, I'm taking you. 00:15:14.220 --> 00:15:16.220 But you can see the land, but you will not enter. 00:15:16.220 --> 00:15:17.220 And Moses says, please, please. 00:15:17.220 --> 00:15:19.220 God says, enough. 00:15:19.220 --> 00:15:21.220 He actually uses the word enough. 00:15:21.220 --> 00:15:22.220 You're not going. 00:15:22.220 --> 00:15:24.220 And Moses stops, eh? 00:15:26.220 --> 00:15:29.220 And yet here, he has the audacity to say to God, 00:15:29.220 --> 00:15:32.220 you've got a plan, but I'm not in it if you're incoming. 00:15:32.340 --> 00:15:36.340 And God says, all right, Genesis 33, 14, I'll come. 00:15:36.340 --> 00:15:38.340 My presence will go with you. 00:15:40.340 --> 00:15:43.340 Remember, this guy is in the Old Testament. 00:15:45.340 --> 00:15:47.340 He doesn't have any of the advantages 00:15:47.340 --> 00:15:49.340 that everybody in this room right now has. 00:15:55.340 --> 00:15:58.340 That's why it is said of him, he was a type of Jesus. 00:16:02.340 --> 00:16:05.340 And this is the same theme that comes up in Matthew 28, verse 20. 00:16:06.340 --> 00:16:08.340 After the Great Commission, 00:16:09.340 --> 00:16:11.340 the Great Commission is bookended by two statements. 00:16:11.340 --> 00:16:12.340 The first statement is, 00:16:12.340 --> 00:16:14.340 all authority has been given to me in heaven and earth. 00:16:14.340 --> 00:16:16.340 And the other bookend is, 00:16:16.340 --> 00:16:20.340 I will be with you till the end of the age. 00:16:21.340 --> 00:16:22.340 I will be with you. 00:16:22.340 --> 00:16:26.340 As in, hey guys, my presence will be with you as you go. 00:16:27.340 --> 00:16:29.340 That's part of the reason why we're going with this title, 00:16:29.340 --> 00:16:31.340 presence to go. 00:16:32.340 --> 00:16:36.340 Presence wasn't meant just for personal comfort 00:16:36.340 --> 00:16:38.340 in an individual believer's life. 00:16:38.340 --> 00:16:42.340 Presence was meant for the community 00:16:43.340 --> 00:16:46.340 to fulfill the mission and the mandate of Christ. 00:16:46.340 --> 00:16:48.340 That is what presence was meant for. 00:16:50.340 --> 00:16:53.340 I'm Raden, the guy from Dayton, Ohio, 00:16:53.340 --> 00:16:56.340 and Ed, one of the guys in New York, 00:16:56.340 --> 00:16:59.340 both went to Ashbury in Kentucky 00:17:00.340 --> 00:17:01.340 over the last four days. 00:17:01.460 --> 00:17:03.460 And I asked, I spoke to both of them, 00:17:03.460 --> 00:17:05.460 and I asked both of them to be critical 00:17:05.460 --> 00:17:08.460 about the revival that's broken out in Ashbury. 00:17:08.460 --> 00:17:10.460 It started, if you haven't heard about it, 00:17:11.460 --> 00:17:13.460 on the 8th of Feb, 00:17:13.460 --> 00:17:17.460 kids used to gather, as usual, in a chapel in Ashbury, 00:17:17.460 --> 00:17:18.460 because it was part of their curriculum 00:17:18.460 --> 00:17:21.460 that they had to attend three meetings a week. 00:17:21.460 --> 00:17:23.460 So they turned up, someone preached, 00:17:23.460 --> 00:17:24.460 and the preaching was very simple. 00:17:24.460 --> 00:17:26.460 Guys, care less about your degree, 00:17:26.460 --> 00:17:28.460 care more about how much God loves you 00:17:28.460 --> 00:17:30.460 and how you can love him back. 00:17:30.580 --> 00:17:33.580 And in the process, don't know what happened, 00:17:33.580 --> 00:17:37.580 but when chapel was over, 25 or 30 kids remained 00:17:37.580 --> 00:17:41.580 and they started worshiping and praising God. 00:17:41.580 --> 00:17:43.580 And that was on Feb 8th, it still hasn't stopped. 00:17:45.580 --> 00:17:47.580 And so I asked both Ed and Raden, 00:17:47.580 --> 00:17:48.580 so what is happening? 00:17:48.580 --> 00:17:51.580 And Raden's response was, when you go in there, 00:17:51.580 --> 00:17:56.580 there's a humility there that is tangible. 00:17:56.580 --> 00:17:58.580 You can touch it. 00:17:58.700 --> 00:18:00.700 As in, these are kids, and it's strange, 00:18:00.700 --> 00:18:04.700 God has started revivals so many times 00:18:04.700 --> 00:18:06.700 amongst the Methodists. 00:18:06.700 --> 00:18:07.700 You would think he would choose 00:18:07.700 --> 00:18:09.700 Charismatics or Pentecostals, 00:18:09.700 --> 00:18:11.700 but no, he goes for the most 00:18:11.700 --> 00:18:13.700 methodical people in the world, 00:18:13.700 --> 00:18:17.700 the Methodists, and he started so many revivals with them 00:18:17.700 --> 00:18:20.700 because that's where he least expected to happen. 00:18:20.700 --> 00:18:22.700 I was actually complaining to God the day before yesterday 00:18:22.700 --> 00:18:25.700 saying, we've been preparing for this for two years, 00:18:25.700 --> 00:18:26.700 and you go find a bunch of kids 00:18:26.820 --> 00:18:28.820 who turned up there for curriculum, 00:18:28.820 --> 00:18:31.820 but everything good only comes out of Nazareth. 00:18:31.820 --> 00:18:36.820 And so one of the things that they said was, 00:18:36.820 --> 00:18:40.820 there's such humility, such humility. 00:18:40.820 --> 00:18:42.820 And suddenly my prayer has changed. 00:18:42.820 --> 00:18:48.820 Oh God, can I be a warrior that is humble? 00:18:48.820 --> 00:18:50.820 How does that work? 00:18:50.820 --> 00:18:53.820 How do you, on one hand, walk in humility 00:18:53.820 --> 00:18:55.820 and yet robe yourself with the zeal 00:18:55.940 --> 00:18:57.940 and the passion of a warrior?
