00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.000
Okay, let's go.

00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:10.000
Hey Aaron.

00:00:10.000 --> 00:00:15.000
There's more to life than coffee man, we're having church here.

00:00:15.000 --> 00:00:20.000
What are you doing out there? Oh you are.

00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:25.000
Hey is the food downstairs

00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:30.000
and Aaron and Sheldon and the kids downstairs? This is not good for the women's baby shower.

00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:35.000
Any baby shower

00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:40.000
announcements?

00:00:40.000 --> 00:00:45.000
Okay there's a baby shower after the service, guys are not invited.

00:00:45.000 --> 00:00:50.000
Okay.

00:00:50.000 --> 00:00:55.000
Okay.

00:00:55.000 --> 00:01:00.000
Hey so as we continue talking about presents,

00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:05.000
I forgot to tell you, Sheldon and Jane have gone to Hawaii, they've come back

00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:10.000
and they met some people there that we can work with,

00:01:10.000 --> 00:01:15.000
God willing in the future if we build a relationship with them. So we'll be going back again in April or May.

00:01:15.000 --> 00:01:20.000
And Tuni and Anilay and Sue are in Vernon

00:01:20.000 --> 00:01:25.000
because Eric went to Guatemala, actually he's in New York, he leaves this afternoon

00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:30.000
for a mission trip there. So Tuni, Anilay and Sue were doing the service last night.

00:01:30.000 --> 00:01:35.000
And next week Don and Emily are going to Vernon.

00:01:35.000 --> 00:01:40.000
Friday and Saturday I go to LA and then

00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:45.000
a whole lot of people are coming from New York and LA

00:01:45.000 --> 00:01:50.000
to Vancouver the week after.

00:01:50.000 --> 00:01:55.000
So Manoj has graciously, as one of his last acts of kindness,

00:01:55.000 --> 00:02:00.000
decided to host them and so we just want to thank you Manoj. Because these are guys from the US

00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:05.000
and this would be the brotherly thing to do.

00:02:05.000 --> 00:02:10.000
Alrighty, that takes care of accommodation for them.

00:02:10.000 --> 00:02:15.000
So let's talk about...

00:02:15.000 --> 00:02:20.000
Hey, so one of the things that's happening in New York is

00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:25.000
I met with the five different house churches there that we've started and they're coming together,

00:02:25.000 --> 00:02:30.000
so it's going better than I thought.

00:02:30.000 --> 00:02:35.000
Yeah, those guys are really jelling. When you see the people they reach out to,

00:02:35.000 --> 00:02:40.000
it's fascinating. I mean right from the homeless to people that are

00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:45.000
from every strata of society. And these guys are really doing well.

00:02:45.000 --> 00:02:50.000
They have a way to go and get people. They remind me a little of Prashant and Pawan.

00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:55.000
Put Prashant and Pawan in New York and that's all that will happen.

00:02:55.000 --> 00:03:00.000
So praise God.

00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:05.000
We'll continue talking about presence, only today we talk about presence and humility.

00:03:05.000 --> 00:03:10.000
And remember, he's here, eh?

00:03:10.000 --> 00:03:15.000
Even while I teach I have to be aware of the fact that he, as in Jesus who is king and is kinging,

00:03:15.000 --> 00:03:20.000
one of the things he loved to do when he walked the earth as king was teach.

00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:25.000
You have to be aware that he is here and he wants to teach.

00:03:25.000 --> 00:03:30.000
And you have to be aware that what if he's here and what if I was listening to him teach,

00:03:30.000 --> 00:03:35.000
how would it affect my heart? So if we could remove your ears and my mouth from the equation,

00:03:35.000 --> 00:03:40.000
this might work out really well. Because the Spirit of God will help us decode stuff,

00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:45.000
find stuff that doesn't fit, find stuff that fits.

00:03:45.000 --> 00:03:50.000
Close the echo.

00:03:50.000 --> 00:03:55.000
Echo, echo, echo, echo.

00:03:55.000 --> 00:04:00.000
Still there.

00:04:00.000 --> 00:04:05.000
Cool.

00:04:05.000 --> 00:04:10.000
So guys, one of the conditions for God's presence is humility.

00:04:10.000 --> 00:04:15.000
One of the conditions for God's presence is humility.

00:04:15.000 --> 00:04:20.000
So if you go to 1 Peter 5,

00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:25.000
verse 5 and 6, 1 Peter 5,

00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:30.000
5 and 6.

00:04:30.000 --> 00:04:35.000
So if you're saying, Father, we really want to be aware of your presence,

00:04:35.000 --> 00:04:40.000
it's not that his presence is not here. His presence is continuously here.

00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:45.000
Continuously here. And if his presence is here, then the kingdom is here.

00:04:45.000 --> 00:04:50.000
He's crowding the earth with his presence.

00:04:50.000 --> 00:04:55.000
He's crowding the earth with his presence.

00:04:55.000 --> 00:05:00.000
Like I said over the last two or three weeks,

00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:05.000
it's like this heavy balloon full of water that's pressing down on the earth,

00:05:05.000 --> 00:05:10.000
pressing down on us. We just aren't aware of it,

00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:15.000
but what if we became aware of it? What if we became aware of the King and His presence?

00:05:15.000 --> 00:05:20.000
Then I could stop at any moment, turn on a dime and do what He wants me to,

00:05:20.000 --> 00:05:25.000
because I'm no longer the preacher or the pastor. I'm just aware of His presence.

00:05:25.000 --> 00:05:30.000
Then He gets to do what He wants to. He can have a little more volume.

00:05:30.000 --> 00:05:35.000
So His presence is here,

00:05:35.000 --> 00:05:40.000
but some of the conditions that make it easy for us to always be aware of His presence

00:05:40.000 --> 00:05:45.000
is humility. So if you go to 1 Peter 5,

00:05:45.000 --> 00:05:50.000
verse 5 and 6,

00:05:50.000 --> 00:05:55.000
it says that,

00:05:55.000 --> 00:06:00.000
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders.

00:06:00.000 --> 00:06:05.000
Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility towards one another. For God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

00:06:05.000 --> 00:06:10.000
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time He may exalt you.

00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:15.000
In some versions it says,

00:06:15.000 --> 00:06:20.000
This is the idea of being brokenhearted or contrite,

00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:25.000
one of the older words.

00:06:25.000 --> 00:06:30.000
The Lord is near, as in His presence is near,

00:06:30.000 --> 00:06:35.000
to the brokenhearted and He saves the cross from the cross.

00:06:35.000 --> 00:06:40.000
So we have to be humble.

00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:45.000
As in His presence is near to the brokenhearted and He saves the crushed in spirit.

00:06:45.000 --> 00:06:50.000
The message puts it this way,

00:06:50.000 --> 00:06:55.000
If your heart is broken, you will find God right there.

00:06:55.000 --> 00:07:00.000
Let's go to

00:07:00.000 --> 00:07:05.000
Isaiah 57.15.

00:07:05.000 --> 00:07:10.000
I love this one.

00:07:10.000 --> 00:07:15.000
Because He lives in two places very happily. One of the things God does really well is live in two of these

00:07:15.000 --> 00:07:20.000
places so easily. The first place is

00:07:20.000 --> 00:07:25.000
heaven. The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the holy one says,

00:07:25.000 --> 00:07:30.000
I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble.

00:07:30.000 --> 00:07:35.000
I restore the crushed spirit of the humble. I revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

00:07:35.000 --> 00:07:40.000
Let me read from the NIV. For this is what the high and exalted one says. He who lives forever,

00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:45.000
whose name is holy, I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly

00:07:45.000 --> 00:07:50.000
in spirit. Let's take one more. Numbers 12.3.

00:07:50.000 --> 00:07:55.000
Here is a guy who actually saw

00:07:55.000 --> 00:08:00.000
the glory of God. He wanted the presence of God. He asked for the presence of God. He saw the glory of God.

00:08:00.000 --> 00:08:05.000
No other human being on earth had been able to dare to ask for it or see it before.

00:08:05.000 --> 00:08:10.000
But look at what it says about him. Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than

00:08:10.000 --> 00:08:15.000
anyone else on the face of the earth. Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble

00:08:15.000 --> 00:08:20.000
than anyone on the face of the earth. That was his condition.

00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:25.000
So there is this ability to become aware of God's presence

00:08:25.000 --> 00:08:30.000
when humility is part of who I am.

00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:35.000
Jesus himself said it in Matthew 18, verse 3 and 4.

00:08:35.000 --> 00:08:40.000
Guys, the best measure

00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:45.000
for a person's readiness

00:08:45.000 --> 00:08:50.000
for kingdom and king is that of a child.

00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:55.000
In Matthew 18, verse 3 and 4 it says that if you are as humble as a child,

00:08:55.000 --> 00:09:00.000
you will know the presence of both king and kingdom.

00:09:00.000 --> 00:09:05.000
Matthew 18, verse 3 and 4. Let's just read it.

00:09:05.000 --> 00:09:10.000
Matthew 18, verse 3 and 4.

00:09:10.000 --> 00:09:15.000
Matthew 18, verse 3 and 4. And he said, truly I tell you, unless you

00:09:15.000 --> 00:09:20.000
change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore,

00:09:20.000 --> 00:09:25.000
whoever takes a lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

00:09:25.000 --> 00:09:30.000
There is something to being aware of the presence of God that requires

00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:35.000
lowliness and humility. And so we are saying that one of the things

00:09:35.000 --> 00:09:40.000
that we need to do in the next 50, how many ever weeks, is an awareness of the presence of God.

00:09:40.000 --> 00:09:45.000
We're not asking for the presence of God. He's already here. Like I said last time,

00:09:45.000 --> 00:09:50.000
and I think I said it, there are four things we need to do. Look up. Revelation chapter 4.

00:09:50.000 --> 00:09:55.000
Look up. There's a throne and there is a king seated on it. And there are creatures

00:09:55.000 --> 00:10:00.000
and angels around him, thousands upon thousands, worshipping him. Look up.

00:10:00.000 --> 00:10:05.000
Because the same king has decided to live inside me. There's a throne in this temple.

00:10:05.000 --> 00:10:10.000
Then look in our midst, because this is his favorite resting place,

00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:15.000
his people. And then look out there, because he's crowding the earth with his presence.

00:10:15.000 --> 00:10:20.000
The moment Jesus came, he decided that he would crowd the earth with his presence,

00:10:20.000 --> 00:10:25.000
that he's already there before I get there.

00:10:26.000 --> 00:10:31.000
The idea of king is that the king is kinging. Where? Here on earth,

00:10:31.000 --> 00:10:36.000
and he's also in heaven. He's in me, he's in our midst, and he's out there.

00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:41.000
We're at a distinct advantage as people of the kingdom, eh?

00:10:41.000 --> 00:10:46.000
Yes, there is a prince of the power of the air, but he's created.

00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:51.000
And in the end, he's removed by a blast of the nostrils of the king.

00:10:51.000 --> 00:10:56.000
That's how he's removed.

00:10:56.000 --> 00:11:01.000
So, we are aware that he's here, but if I walk in humility,

00:11:01.000 --> 00:11:06.000
it's good soil for him to have traction in.

00:11:06.000 --> 00:11:11.000
Guys, the thing is, humility was discarded.

00:11:11.000 --> 00:11:16.000
Humility was one of the first things discarded in heaven.

00:11:16.000 --> 00:11:21.000
Lucifer discarded humility. It was one of the first things that was lost.

00:11:21.000 --> 00:11:26.000
What was his intent? I want to be equal to God.

00:11:26.000 --> 00:11:31.000
The first thing that was removed from heaven was humility.

00:11:31.000 --> 00:11:36.000
There are two ancient spirits, and by ancient spirits I don't mean very old spirits.

00:11:36.000 --> 00:11:41.000
As in ancient spirits, as in spirits that showed themselves first.

00:11:41.000 --> 00:11:46.000
The first spirit that showed itself was the spirit of pride.

00:11:46.000 --> 00:11:51.000
And the second spirit that showed itself was the spirit of fear.

00:11:51.000 --> 00:11:56.000
The spirit of pride was what caused a created angel to rebel against the most high God,

00:11:56.000 --> 00:12:01.000
saying, I will sit on his throne and receive his worship.

00:12:01.000 --> 00:12:06.000
He comes down to the earth and he baits Adam and Eve with the same thing.

00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:11.000
He says, I will sit on his throne, eat of this fruit and it will open your eyes and you will become like God.

00:12:11.000 --> 00:12:16.000
It's an ancient spirit, pride, which is why it is necessary that we oppose it,

00:12:16.000 --> 00:12:21.000
because what was lost in the garden at the end of the day was presence.

00:12:21.000 --> 00:12:26.000
It might be an inappropriate question, but where does the spirit of pride come from if it's not from Satan himself?

00:12:26.000 --> 00:12:31.000
If it is not from? Satan himself.

00:12:32.000 --> 00:12:37.000
Yes, so it is an ancient spirit.

00:12:37.000 --> 00:12:42.000
When what was good turned to evil, it would be like asking, and I mean this sincerely,

00:12:42.000 --> 00:12:47.000
it would be like asking, how did roses develop thorns?

00:12:47.000 --> 00:12:52.000
How did bacteria turn into harmful virus?

00:12:52.000 --> 00:12:57.000
With sin and the fall, things mutate.

00:12:57.000 --> 00:13:02.000
One that was supposed to be the ultimate expression of angelic glory

00:13:02.000 --> 00:13:07.000
decides that because of free will that I will choose to be like God.

00:13:07.000 --> 00:13:12.000
So it was sort of in tandem with what Satan was doing as opposed to that creating Satan's rebellion.

00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:17.000
I don't understand.

00:13:17.000 --> 00:13:22.000
It's okay, it can wait.

00:13:22.000 --> 00:13:27.000
So pride entered, and pride is the opposite.

00:13:27.000 --> 00:13:32.000
We must remember something, sin is the opposite of what God is, and one can always choose it.

00:13:32.000 --> 00:13:37.000
Sin is the opposite of what God is, and one can always choose it because one has free will.

00:13:37.000 --> 00:13:42.000
It is free will that allows us to choose what is not God.

00:13:42.000 --> 00:13:47.000
And so here is Lucifer who chooses pride,

00:13:47.000 --> 00:13:52.000
and then he has the same bait here on earth to draw Adam in.

00:13:52.000 --> 00:13:57.000
And Adam does the same thing, wants to be equal with God.

00:13:57.000 --> 00:14:02.000
And then comes the spirit of fear. The spirit of fear is what causes a man who used to walk with God face to face, heart to heart.

00:14:02.000 --> 00:14:07.000
It causes that man to begin to hide.

00:14:07.000 --> 00:14:12.000
And these things are still active, right? That is why it's important that we realize that humility

00:14:12.000 --> 00:14:17.000
is something that must be practiced for presence.

00:14:17.000 --> 00:14:22.000
Humility is key to an awareness of presence.

00:14:30.000 --> 00:14:35.000
You okay, Gene? Humility is key to an awareness of presence.

00:14:35.000 --> 00:14:40.000
Because what was lost in the garden, what was lost in the garden was presence.

00:14:40.000 --> 00:14:45.000
What was lost in the garden was presence, and it was lost because of pride.

00:14:50.000 --> 00:14:55.000
And so how can you define humility for our sake?

00:14:55.000 --> 00:15:00.000
The essence of humility is the absence, this is a hard one, guys, is the absence of personal concern.

00:15:00.000 --> 00:15:05.000
Is the absence of personal concern for our worth,

00:15:06.000 --> 00:15:11.000
for our skills,

00:15:11.000 --> 00:15:16.000
for our achievements,

00:15:16.000 --> 00:15:21.000
for our status,

00:15:21.000 --> 00:15:26.000
for our entitlements.

00:15:26.000 --> 00:15:31.000
Humility, the essence of humility,

00:15:31.000 --> 00:15:36.000
the essence of humility is the absence of personal concern.

00:15:36.000 --> 00:15:41.000
As in, what would it look like if everybody in this room began to have no personal concern

00:15:41.000 --> 00:15:46.000
as in, what would it look like if everybody in this room began to have no personal concern

00:15:46.000 --> 00:15:51.000
for their worth, their skills, their achievements, their status, their entitlements?

00:15:51.000 --> 00:15:56.000
We are no longer concerned. We are no longer concerned.

00:15:56.000 --> 00:16:01.000
What's the difference between the personal concern for them and the drive to achievement in the first place?

00:16:01.000 --> 00:16:06.000
What's the difference between personal concern for them and the drive to achievement

00:16:06.000 --> 00:16:11.000
and the skills and achievements and the status of a lot of the person?

00:16:11.000 --> 00:16:16.000
We push towards achievement, we push towards entitlement, we push towards honing our skills.

00:16:16.000 --> 00:16:21.000
Self-worth is highly prized. What if there was no personal concern for these things?

00:16:21.000 --> 00:16:26.000
We would achieve anything if that wasn't the case.

00:16:26.000 --> 00:16:31.000
Yeah, so I'm saying that ambition is not a

00:16:31.000 --> 00:16:36.000
kingdom quality.

00:16:36.000 --> 00:16:41.000
Ambition is not a kingdom quality.

00:16:41.000 --> 00:16:46.000
Our goal is to be obedient and to serve. Christ is the ultimate poster

00:16:46.000 --> 00:16:51.000
person for this. If there was anyone who was skilled, if there was anyone who could have achieved,

00:16:51.000 --> 00:16:56.000
if there was anyone who could have done whatever he wanted, it was Christ. Paul was

00:16:56.000 --> 00:17:01.000
at one time someone who lived like that and then he says, it is dog dung.

00:17:01.000 --> 00:17:06.000
That's the actual translation. That all the stuff I have achieved is dog dung.

00:17:06.000 --> 00:17:11.000
This is why humility goes so against what

00:17:11.000 --> 00:17:16.000
we see as present culture.

00:17:16.000 --> 00:17:21.000
The acquiring skills would be, let's say

00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:26.000
Emily knows how to sing, her acquired skill would be, I've been given a gift for

00:17:26.000 --> 00:17:31.000
singing, I'm going to train it. I'm going to train it because I will serve King, Kingdom and his guests.

00:17:31.000 --> 00:17:36.000
Where there is no personal concern for

00:17:36.000 --> 00:17:41.000
her singing, her worth that comes from singing, skills, achievements, status

00:17:41.000 --> 00:17:46.000
and talent, no personal concern. It's a very extreme way of living, man.

00:17:46.000 --> 00:17:51.000
Why are we offended? We are offended because when these things

00:17:51.000 --> 00:17:56.000
are not given the value that they must be given by those around us, it bothers us.

00:17:56.000 --> 00:18:01.000
But this kind of living,

00:18:01.000 --> 00:18:06.000
it will have the presence of God tent on you. You will be aware of it constantly.

00:18:06.000 --> 00:18:11.000
Ambition is not a kingdom quality.

00:18:11.000 --> 00:18:16.000
What will it do to us? It will hollow us out in the world

00:18:16.000 --> 00:18:21.000
and yet it says humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and he will

00:18:21.000 --> 00:18:26.000
exalt you. Look at what happened to Daniel and the three boys.

00:18:26.000 --> 00:18:31.000
Decided not to take part in the fancy stuff that was set up by the King.

00:18:31.000 --> 00:18:36.000
Decided not to eat of it. The guy who was in charge said,

00:18:36.000 --> 00:18:41.000
you guys are going to have my head cut off because you guys will be worse off.

00:18:41.000 --> 00:18:46.000
And what does he do? He says, give us ten days. Just give us ten days. And after ten days they were ten times better than everybody else.

00:18:46.000 --> 00:18:51.000
Humiliation

00:18:51.000 --> 00:18:56.000
Humiliation, and that's a word we would never equate with Christianity today.

00:18:56.000 --> 00:19:01.000
Humiliation and exaltation are two sides of one coin.

00:19:12.000 --> 00:19:17.000
What happens when you're not

00:19:17.000 --> 00:19:22.000
included or recognized? What happens

00:19:22.000 --> 00:19:27.000
when you are not included?

00:19:27.000 --> 00:19:32.000
When you're not recognized?

00:19:32.000 --> 00:19:37.000
When my good deeds are overlooked?

00:19:37.000 --> 00:19:42.000
Or worse yet,

00:19:42.000 --> 00:19:47.000
it's attributed to someone else?

00:19:47.000 --> 00:19:52.000
Could you care less about such things?

00:19:52.000 --> 00:19:57.000
Could you care less about such things?

00:19:57.000 --> 00:20:02.000
Amazing, eh? So difficult.

00:20:02.000 --> 00:20:07.000
What happens when you're not included?

00:20:07.000 --> 00:20:12.000
What happens when you're not included?

00:20:12.000 --> 00:20:17.000
When you're not part of the in-crowd or the inner core?

00:20:17.000 --> 00:20:22.000
What happens when you're not recognized?

00:20:22.000 --> 00:20:27.000
What happens when your good deeds are overlooked? What happens when you do a whole lot of good and then it's attributed to someone else?

00:20:27.000 --> 00:20:32.000
Could you care less about such things?

00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:37.000
Something bristles inside us saying,

00:20:37.000 --> 00:20:42.000
but I'm entitled to that. I earned it. I deserved it. I worked for it.

00:20:42.000 --> 00:20:47.000
The fear is though, if I behave like this, what will happen to me at work? Will I be promoted?

00:20:47.000 --> 00:20:52.000
Will I get that job? Will I be lifted up? And God is saying,

00:20:52.000 --> 00:20:57.000
since when has man been in charge of your life?

00:20:57.000 --> 00:21:02.000
Since when does mortal man decide

00:21:02.000 --> 00:21:07.000
your progress? Really, if mortal man decided your progress,

00:21:07.000 --> 00:21:12.000
Don would not get into UBC. Derek would definitely not get through UBC.

00:21:12.000 --> 00:21:17.000
Don was not even accepted in UBC Okanagan.

00:21:17.000 --> 00:21:22.000
Don was not even accepted in UBC Okanagan.

00:21:22.000 --> 00:21:27.000
And yet he got it in Vancouver. How is that even possible?

00:21:27.000 --> 00:21:32.000
Sorry, Don. You always come up in wrong examples.

00:21:32.000 --> 00:21:37.000
Go, Butler.

00:21:37.000 --> 00:21:42.000
Sorry, I said Go, Butler. Go, Mark.

00:21:42.000 --> 00:21:47.000
What is your name? Yeah, Go, Mark.

00:21:47.000 --> 00:21:52.000
Yeah, so God is a profitable God.

00:21:52.000 --> 00:21:57.000
And so there are principles that you will not hold.

00:21:57.000 --> 00:22:02.000
You will not gouge. You will be profitable. You will multiply.

00:22:02.000 --> 00:22:07.000
You won't hold away for a rainy day. You will treat employees well.

00:22:07.000 --> 00:22:12.000
Paul outlines them in all his letters. So there are principles.

00:22:12.000 --> 00:22:17.000
Oh, I thought you were running to me and calling me mama.

00:22:17.000 --> 00:22:22.000
Aaron, you're supposed to keep the kids down, not here.

00:22:22.000 --> 00:22:27.000
We've got guests today.

00:22:27.000 --> 00:22:32.000
I'm trying to impress them and you're ruining it.

00:22:32.000 --> 00:22:37.000
Yeah, so he is a profitable God.

00:22:37.000 --> 00:22:42.000
But he is also a super kind God.

00:22:42.000 --> 00:22:47.000
So it's very hard for businessmen to balance both. Very few succeed.

00:22:47.000 --> 00:22:52.000
Because at some point the need to be profitable begins to change who you are to your employees and with your customers.

00:22:52.000 --> 00:22:57.000
Yeah, I would say as a businessman, if you can take Isaiah 61, 1-5,

00:22:57.000 --> 00:23:02.000
and use that as a business model,

00:23:02.000 --> 00:23:07.000
the Spirit of the Lord has anointed me as a businessman to preach the good news to the poor,

00:23:07.000 --> 00:23:12.000
to open the eyes of the blind, to set captives free.

00:23:12.000 --> 00:23:17.000
If that becomes why you run a business, then verse 6-11 goes into play.

00:23:17.000 --> 00:23:22.000
And verse 6-11 says this. Foreigners will come and dig up your vineyards.

00:23:22.000 --> 00:23:27.000
You will have double the profits. God will honor you with a double portion.

00:23:27.000 --> 00:23:32.000
He will make sure that shepherds take care of your sheep and farmers take care of your vineyards.

00:23:32.000 --> 00:23:37.000
He will crown you with whatever you need to.

00:23:37.000 --> 00:23:42.000
And so 1-5, if we follow as businessmen and nurses, as mothers, as fathers,

00:23:42.000 --> 00:23:47.000
then verse 6-11 just takes care of itself.

00:23:47.000 --> 00:23:52.000
Because Jesus was a businessman. We don't remember that. His father dies early.

00:23:52.000 --> 00:23:57.000
He runs a carpentry business. I don't know if he had employees, but perhaps his brothers and sisters helped,

00:23:57.000 --> 00:24:02.000
because usually that's how family businesses were run. He had to take care of a mother and about six siblings.

00:24:02.000 --> 00:24:07.000
And he was the oldest by far. And now here is a man who has to run this business

00:24:07.000 --> 00:24:12.000
and make sure that his family is fed. And he's the same one who said

00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:17.000
anyone who does not take care of his family and offers offerings to God is an infidel.

00:24:17.000 --> 00:24:22.000
So he must have really worked hard at it. Oh my God, it must have been fun watching him

00:24:22.000 --> 00:24:27.000
as a businessman.

00:24:27.000 --> 00:24:32.000
So a follow-up question. So humility doesn't always have to mean like helping out everyone.

00:24:32.000 --> 00:24:37.000
It can just mean like, because sometimes when you buy, you have to buy low

00:24:37.000 --> 00:24:42.000
and somebody else is kind of, is taking the loss, so to speak, from your game.

00:24:42.000 --> 00:24:47.000
Yeah, not always. Sometimes you have to do it, but it's not a flat thing.

00:24:47.000 --> 00:24:52.000
To be humble is to let my family die of starvation

00:24:52.000 --> 00:24:57.000
while you give Jacob a good deal.

00:24:57.000 --> 00:25:02.000
But humility at the end of the day,

00:25:02.000 --> 00:25:07.000
this part is important. C.S. Lewis put it this way. I love the phrase he uses

00:25:07.000 --> 00:25:12.000
for humility. Self-forgetfulness.

00:25:12.000 --> 00:25:17.000
Jacob, can you do things and then not just completely forget yourself?

00:25:17.000 --> 00:25:22.000
Can you sing a song and then not even bother that someone else is singing better than you?

00:25:22.000 --> 00:25:27.000
Can you write a book that is a bestseller and then Mark comes along

00:25:27.000 --> 00:25:32.000
and he took you eight months to write the book. He takes eight days to write the book and it sells more than yours.

00:25:32.000 --> 00:25:37.000
Part of the reason

00:25:37.000 --> 00:25:42.000
we need to talk about this is because humility is a condition of the heart.

00:25:42.000 --> 00:25:47.000
And the strange thing about pride and humility is those who possess it do not know it.

00:25:47.000 --> 00:25:52.000
Do not know it. Others see it, but those who possess pride or humility do not know it.

00:25:52.000 --> 00:25:57.000
Soon as you know it, no, you just don't know it.

00:25:57.000 --> 00:26:02.000
One who is proud does not know it and others see it.

00:26:02.000 --> 00:26:07.000
One who is humble does not know it and others see it.

00:26:07.000 --> 00:26:12.000
Like, I just don't know that I'm humble.

00:26:12.000 --> 00:26:17.000
It's strange. You see it, but I don't.

00:26:17.000 --> 00:26:22.000
Yes, sorry.

00:26:22.000 --> 00:26:27.000
I think that

00:26:27.000 --> 00:26:32.000
one of the things that I think is hard is when

00:26:32.000 --> 00:26:37.000
so if I'm at work and my boss asks me to do a project

00:26:37.000 --> 00:26:42.000
but then doesn't include me in the meeting about that project but still wants me to do it.

00:26:42.000 --> 00:26:47.000
That's different. It's when you're being deliberately excluded for

00:26:47.000 --> 00:26:52.000
wrong reasons, but the heart is still humble as you go and argue to be included.

00:26:52.000 --> 00:26:57.000
The heart doesn't thirst, heart doesn't crave, heart doesn't

00:26:57.000 --> 00:27:02.000
desire to be included in everything. You're okay not being included

00:27:02.000 --> 00:27:07.000
and then you go up to her and say, why didn't you include me because this is a project I'm doing.

00:27:07.000 --> 00:27:12.000
But it comes from a heart that does not demand, is not entitled, is okay being humiliated.

00:27:12.000 --> 00:27:17.000
How many people here are actually okay being humiliated?

00:27:17.000 --> 00:27:22.000
Our immediate responses, but we shouldn't be a doormat,

00:27:22.000 --> 00:27:27.000
we should stand up for our rights, all that is true, but let's swing to the other side for a second

00:27:27.000 --> 00:27:32.000
because that part we have nailed down really well. Let's do the other part.

00:27:32.000 --> 00:27:37.000
How many here actually are okay being humiliated?

00:27:37.000 --> 00:27:42.000
Don't put up your hands altogether. Just take it easy.

00:27:42.000 --> 00:27:47.000
True, but let's just take that statement for

00:27:47.000 --> 00:27:52.000
how many of us are really okay being humiliated. Okay being humiliated as in

00:27:52.000 --> 00:27:57.000
it's alright. Yes it is situational. There are places where you need to stand up.

00:27:57.000 --> 00:28:02.000
But what I know is that I'm not okay with it yet.

00:28:02.000 --> 00:28:07.000
I'm not okay being humiliated. Something in me rises up when I'm humiliated.

00:28:07.000 --> 00:28:12.000
Pardon?

00:28:12.000 --> 00:28:17.000
It is situational. Everything is gray. Nothing is necessarily always black and white.

00:28:17.000 --> 00:28:22.000
But I'm finding out that something bristles in me when I'm humiliated and then I have to kick in my Christian.

00:28:32.000 --> 00:28:37.000
Aha! Always stand up for justice for others but never fight for it for yourself.

00:28:37.000 --> 00:28:42.000
When he was reviled, when he was humiliated,

00:28:42.000 --> 00:28:47.000
when he was insulted, he went like a sheep to the slaughter.

00:28:47.000 --> 00:28:52.000
That's the odd thing. I'm supposed to stand up and

00:28:52.000 --> 00:28:57.000
fight for justice for others but I'm not supposed to insist that justice

00:28:57.000 --> 00:29:02.000
be done to me. This is the part where I think we are not like Jesus yet.

00:29:02.000 --> 00:29:07.000
Boy I'm not getting past the introduction today. Go ahead.

00:29:07.000 --> 00:29:12.000
Yeah.

00:29:12.000 --> 00:29:17.000
I am thinking that people that I know who are in really bad situations who don't stand up for themselves.

00:29:17.000 --> 00:29:22.000
Well there is like job situations where they say this or this or this or this. And I'm wondering how do you frame that in that situation?

00:29:22.000 --> 00:29:27.000
Yeah. If Jelan is not standing up for himself in his situation

00:29:27.000 --> 00:29:32.000
and then maybe I can stand up for him.

00:29:32.000 --> 00:29:37.000
Yeah.

00:29:37.000 --> 00:29:42.000
This is good to lean on you like this.

00:29:42.000 --> 00:29:47.000
So talking about not standing up for justice for yourself, I don't feel the same way I have personally.

00:29:47.000 --> 00:29:52.000
It's okay.

00:30:17.000 --> 00:30:22.000
Good.

00:30:22.000 --> 00:30:27.000
So we are talking about justice,

00:30:27.000 --> 00:30:32.000
we are talking about humiliation,

00:30:32.000 --> 00:30:37.000
we are talking about speaking up,

00:30:37.000 --> 00:30:42.000
and we are talking about evil and turning the other cheek.

00:30:42.000 --> 00:30:47.000
All this

00:30:47.000 --> 00:30:52.000
will go together and it's, and while Jelan's experience

00:30:52.000 --> 00:30:57.000
is really painful for her, we still can't leave out these other things.

00:30:57.000 --> 00:31:02.000
So in Jelan's case, she was abused by

00:31:02.000 --> 00:31:07.000
the person who really treated her badly and nobody else stood up for her so she would have to speak up against

00:31:07.000 --> 00:31:12.000
and mark boundaries and if you don't mark boundaries you get taken advantage of again and again

00:31:12.000 --> 00:31:17.000
and again and so much so that even talking about it

00:31:17.000 --> 00:31:22.000
and trust me she's a private person for her to bring this up like this is a big deal.

00:31:22.000 --> 00:31:27.000
It's very painful for her. So there is that on one hand. On the other hand, there is the turning the other cheek

00:31:27.000 --> 00:31:32.000
when evil is done to me. There is the humiliation that

00:31:32.000 --> 00:31:37.000
Jesus Christ suffered at the hands of those that treated him unfairly and were abusive towards him.

00:31:37.000 --> 00:31:42.000
There is the speaking up that needs to happen when he turned the temple upside down.

00:31:42.000 --> 00:31:47.000
He didn't just speak up, he took a whip and spoke.

00:31:47.000 --> 00:31:52.000
And there is the fair God who gives out justice and I'll tell you something else. Because she went through

00:31:52.000 --> 00:31:57.000
what she went through, these are not words that I'm throwing out just for the heck of it.

00:31:57.000 --> 00:32:02.000
Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted. Blessed are those that are persecuted

00:32:02.000 --> 00:32:07.000
for my name's sake. Blessed are those that are poor in spirit.

00:32:07.000 --> 00:32:12.000
These things suddenly come crashing down on her head. She may not be able to measure it

00:32:12.000 --> 00:32:17.000
but there is a God who is faithful who does it. So the easiest thing for me right now

00:32:17.000 --> 00:32:22.000
would be to say, man this is a terrible story, we must stand up for our rights. In her case

00:32:22.000 --> 00:32:27.000
nobody stood up for her rights, she had to stand up herself and it still traumatizes her.

00:32:27.000 --> 00:32:32.000
But when we look at the overall picture, humility requires all these things to be at work

00:32:32.000 --> 00:32:37.000
and we cannot avoid it.

00:32:37.000 --> 00:32:42.000
I know how difficult it was to share it so I'm grateful.

00:32:42.000 --> 00:32:47.000
What is

00:32:47.000 --> 00:32:52.000
going to happen at the end of the day

00:32:52.000 --> 00:32:57.000
as we learn to walk in greater humility, we become more aware of his presence.

00:32:57.000 --> 00:33:02.000
That aside, Matthew 5 begins to break on her

00:33:02.000 --> 00:33:07.000
and break on you. There was a reason Jesus

00:33:07.000 --> 00:33:12.000
shares the Beatitudes. The Romans were some of the most abusive masters that ever existed.

00:33:12.000 --> 00:33:17.000
Judea was under the tyranny. They are waiting for a king who has not come.

00:33:17.000 --> 00:33:22.000
And when he comes, he doesn't come as a conquering king.

00:33:22.000 --> 00:33:27.000
He stands there and he is saying, blessed are you if you are bankrupt. Blessed are you if you are crying.

00:33:27.000 --> 00:33:32.000
It seems unreal for us.

00:33:32.000 --> 00:33:37.000
But this is what she gets. And I'm not just making it, just saying it.

00:33:37.000 --> 00:33:42.000
This is what she gets. If she wants to measure it from today on, she will see Beatitudes break over her.

00:33:42.000 --> 00:33:47.000
Because God is awesomely faithful.

00:33:47.000 --> 00:33:52.000
C.S. Lewis uses the word

00:33:52.000 --> 00:33:57.000
self-forgetfulness. He says humility is

00:33:57.000 --> 00:34:02.000
self-forgetfulness. And self-forgetfulness is the opposite of self-engrossment.

00:34:02.000 --> 00:34:07.000
I don't know who said this line, but I love this line.

00:34:07.000 --> 00:34:12.000
Humility follows God like a shadow.

00:34:12.000 --> 00:34:17.000
Humility follows God like a shadow. So if there is a shadow God casts, it's humility.

00:34:17.000 --> 00:34:22.000
If there is a shadow God casts, it's humility.

00:34:22.000 --> 00:34:27.000
When man is present with God, humility prevails.

00:34:27.000 --> 00:34:32.000
When man moves away from God,

00:34:32.000 --> 00:34:37.000
pride seeks him out. When man moves away from God,

00:34:37.000 --> 00:34:42.000
pride seeks him out. When man

00:34:42.000 --> 00:34:47.000
walks with God, humility prevails.

00:34:47.000 --> 00:34:52.000
When man separates himself from God, pride seeks him out.

00:34:52.000 --> 00:34:57.000
And the problem with pride

00:34:57.000 --> 00:35:02.000
seeking me out is when pride seeks me out and I walk with it,

00:35:02.000 --> 00:35:07.000
God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. It's this virtuous and

00:35:07.000 --> 00:35:12.000
vicious cycle. The shadow that God casts is

00:35:12.000 --> 00:35:17.000
humility. We just need to look at the sun as in S.O.N. Everything he did.

00:35:17.000 --> 00:35:22.000
We'll read Philippians 2.69. It's marvelous what he talks about there.

00:35:22.000 --> 00:35:27.000
One who is king decides not to grasp equality with God and becomes a servant.

00:35:27.000 --> 00:35:32.000
The shadow he casts is that of humility. When man walks with God,

00:35:32.000 --> 00:35:37.000
humility prevails. When I separate myself from God, and it happens a hundred times a day,

00:35:37.000 --> 00:35:42.000
when I separate myself from God, pride seeks me out.

00:35:42.000 --> 00:35:47.000
It seeks me out. When it seeks me out and if it can have me,

00:35:47.000 --> 00:35:52.000
then God resists me. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

00:35:52.000 --> 00:35:57.000
Presence is...

00:35:57.000 --> 00:36:02.000
Presence proves you. P-R-O-O-F-S. Presence proves you against

00:36:02.000 --> 00:36:07.000
pride. Presence proves you against

00:36:07.000 --> 00:36:12.000
pride. It is very hard to be in the presence of the king and be proud.

00:36:12.000 --> 00:36:17.000
In fact, it says Leviathan is the king over the children of pride.

00:36:17.000 --> 00:36:22.000
Job 42 or somewhere there. Leviathan is king over the children

00:36:22.000 --> 00:36:27.000
of pride. While Jesus Christ is king over those that walk

00:36:27.000 --> 00:36:32.000
humbly. Think of the word self-forgetfulness. Play around with it.

00:36:32.000 --> 00:36:37.000
I remember being in a situation once where I'd done a lot of work

00:36:37.000 --> 00:36:42.000
there. Lot of work. And contributed tremendously. And they're sitting

00:36:42.000 --> 00:36:47.000
and they're talking about the different people that contributed and it completely left me out.

00:36:47.000 --> 00:36:52.000
And I knew I was the one who did most of the work there. Rarely happens, but this time I did.

00:36:52.000 --> 00:36:57.000
And I'm listening and there was this

00:36:57.000 --> 00:37:02.000
What was this C.S. Lewis phrase? Self-forgetfulness. And it was so comforting.

00:37:02.000 --> 00:37:07.000
So what if you did a lot of work and nobody recognized you?

00:37:07.000 --> 00:37:12.000
Self-forgetfulness. So hard man. Something in us

00:37:12.000 --> 00:37:17.000
wants to be applauded and recognized.

00:37:17.000 --> 00:37:22.000
Thank God for a Jesus of extremes.

00:37:22.000 --> 00:37:27.000
Again, C.S. Lewis said this too. Spiritual pride is when I'm proud of something

00:37:27.000 --> 00:37:32.000
Christian. For reasons other than Christ.

00:37:32.000 --> 00:37:37.000
Spiritual pride is when I'm proud of something Christian. For reasons other than Christ.

00:37:37.000 --> 00:37:42.000
I'm proud of something Christian.

00:37:42.000 --> 00:37:47.000
For reasons other than Christ. Suddenly, spiritually I want to

00:37:47.000 --> 00:37:52.000
increase. Why? So that I can be better than Jillian or better than Sheldon. For reasons other than Christ.

00:37:52.000 --> 00:37:57.000
For reasons other than Christ.

00:37:57.000 --> 00:38:02.000
Boast in him.

00:38:02.000 --> 00:38:07.000
He's the one who made it possible for me. But when you do it for reasons

00:38:07.000 --> 00:38:12.000
other than Christ, it has changed his things.

00:38:12.000 --> 00:38:17.000
I mean, in pastoral circles this happens.

00:38:17.000 --> 00:38:22.000
Forget pastoral. Oh, let me just say. So there will be a pastor sitting with you and he'll say,

00:38:22.000 --> 00:38:27.000
yeah, I went to Asia and I prayed for two blind people

00:38:27.000 --> 00:38:32.000
and they both got healed. And so you'll sit and listen to it and then you think,

00:38:32.000 --> 00:38:37.000
you went to Asia and I think there were two and a half blind people healed. So you're waiting for him to finish his testimony because now it's your turn.

00:38:37.000 --> 00:38:42.000
Yeah, I went to Asia and there were two and a half blind people healed because one guy only had one eye and then one deaf ear.

00:38:42.000 --> 00:38:47.000
Now you up the ante. Now the next pastor, he has to come up with another story.

00:38:47.000 --> 00:38:52.000
And around the table stories go, man. Each trying to up the other.

00:38:52.000 --> 00:38:57.000
And then at the end of every story you will say, praise God, it was all him.

00:38:57.000 --> 00:39:02.000
So we do this.

00:39:02.000 --> 00:39:07.000
Trust me, Marcus.

00:39:07.000 --> 00:39:12.000
They do it and I've been part of it too.

00:39:12.000 --> 00:39:17.000
And then you leave the place and you think to yourself,

00:39:17.000 --> 00:39:22.000
my God, that was the most ungodly testimonies that God, of God, that we have heard.

00:39:22.000 --> 00:39:27.000
I realize that as soon as I leave what I believe is the truth,

00:39:27.000 --> 00:39:32.000
I realize that as soon as I leave what I did.

00:39:32.000 --> 00:39:37.000
See, my humility, I'm not aware of it.

00:39:37.000 --> 00:39:42.000
Okay.

00:39:42.000 --> 00:39:47.000
For presence and humility to work, there are things I must recognize about myself.

00:39:47.000 --> 00:39:52.000
There are things I must recognize about myself.

00:39:52.000 --> 00:39:57.000
You're still stuck with Lucifer. We moved on to God.

00:39:57.000 --> 00:40:02.000
Okay, but go ahead.

00:40:02.000 --> 00:40:07.000
Yeah, but that was because he willed otherwise, right?

00:40:07.000 --> 00:40:12.000
He chose. He chose.

00:40:12.000 --> 00:40:17.000
It must have been some kind of rebellion to be in the presence of Holy,

00:40:17.000 --> 00:40:22.000
to be in the presence of Creator and yet choose

00:40:22.000 --> 00:40:27.000
to rebel and then go and get

00:40:27.000 --> 00:40:32.000
one third of the angelic armies to rebel with him.

00:40:32.000 --> 00:40:37.000
And Christ was slain before the foundations of the earth,

00:40:37.000 --> 00:40:42.000
which is even nuttier, or more nuts, like in the sense that

00:40:42.000 --> 00:40:47.000
he knew this was going to happen and he had already made provision for it.

00:40:47.000 --> 00:40:52.000
Before there was a church, Satan was already saying, I want to sit on Mount Zion.

00:40:52.000 --> 00:40:57.000
Before the earth existed.

00:40:57.000 --> 00:41:02.000
It's the most,

00:41:02.000 --> 00:41:07.000
it's the most precious thing that God has given us,

00:41:07.000 --> 00:41:12.000
is free will.

00:41:12.000 --> 00:41:17.000
And because free will is the most precious thing God has given us,

00:41:17.000 --> 00:41:22.000
to use power, love,

00:41:22.000 --> 00:41:27.000
pressure, manipulation, deceit, to hijack,

00:41:27.000 --> 00:41:32.000
control, affect, color, groom anyone's self-will

00:41:32.000 --> 00:41:37.000
is something that God does not do.

00:41:37.000 --> 00:41:42.000
And so as a pastor, if I ever try to force your will to do something,

00:41:42.000 --> 00:41:47.000
then suddenly it reeks of ungodliness.

00:41:47.000 --> 00:41:52.000
As a parent when you try doing it, you advise, you counsel, you correct, you admonish, you do all that.

00:41:52.000 --> 00:41:57.000
But a point comes where once a person is of a certain age, not for little children,

00:41:57.000 --> 00:42:02.000
once a person is of a certain age, you have to let them make a choice.

00:42:02.000 --> 00:42:07.000
And when we take away that through pressure, force, carrots,

00:42:07.000 --> 00:42:12.000
not carrots, like cake, any such thing, carrots wouldn't help.

00:42:12.000 --> 00:42:17.000
But you never hijack someone's self-will.

00:42:17.000 --> 00:42:22.000
You never use deceit or manipulation to take it away.

00:42:27.000 --> 00:42:32.000
Because it's one thing God doesn't do.

00:42:32.000 --> 00:42:37.000
When you are with such people like people in your family,

00:42:37.000 --> 00:42:42.000
where you know that they are following you, moving out of this,

00:42:42.000 --> 00:42:47.000
is it not easy?

00:42:47.000 --> 00:42:52.000
When I'm with people who are trying to manipulate my self-will, I have to create distance. I don't have to separate, but I have to create distance.

00:42:52.000 --> 00:42:57.000
When it happens again and again, then I have to create distance

00:42:57.000 --> 00:43:02.000
so that I'm not as influenced as I would otherwise be.

00:43:02.000 --> 00:43:07.000
Yeah.

00:43:07.000 --> 00:43:12.000
That's the simplest way to start.

00:43:12.000 --> 00:43:17.000
Nothing is black and white. I wish everything was black and white. Life would be so easy.

00:43:17.000 --> 00:43:22.000
Cats, bad. Dogs, good. It's not like that.

00:43:22.000 --> 00:43:27.000
You might find out soon that there are one or two cats that may have made it into good.

00:43:27.000 --> 00:43:32.000
But not more than two.

00:43:32.000 --> 00:43:37.000
Who brought her?

00:43:37.000 --> 00:43:42.000
Someone in Vernon

00:43:42.000 --> 00:43:47.000
sent me a text from the last message.

00:43:47.000 --> 00:43:52.000
The only point I really got,

00:43:52.000 --> 00:43:57.000
no she didn't say that, was when you said,

00:43:57.000 --> 00:44:02.000
what if God gives you a cat as a pet when you get to heaven?

00:44:02.000 --> 00:44:07.000
Guys, our humility is so contrary to the world.

00:44:07.000 --> 00:44:12.000
Which is why, how do you handle Trump as a Christian?

00:44:12.000 --> 00:44:17.000
Everything he does goes against the grain of what we are talking.

00:44:17.000 --> 00:44:22.000
And yet, we think that

00:44:22.000 --> 00:44:27.000
we are not going to be able to do anything about it.

00:44:27.000 --> 00:44:32.000
And yet,

00:44:32.000 --> 00:44:37.000
we think he's godsent and he's, maybe he's godsent, but he's definitely not godly.

00:44:37.000 --> 00:44:42.000
Everything that we are talking about

00:44:42.000 --> 00:44:47.000
is contrary to the world system.

00:44:47.000 --> 00:44:52.000
Because humility, according to God, requires a glad acceptance.

00:44:52.000 --> 00:44:57.000
A glad acceptance of weakness,

00:44:57.000 --> 00:45:02.000
of dependence,

00:45:02.000 --> 00:45:07.000
and of even humiliation.

00:45:14.000 --> 00:45:19.000
Yeah, we'll get there in the next three or four minutes.

00:45:19.000 --> 00:45:24.000
So when you look at the Beatitudes,

00:45:24.000 --> 00:45:29.000
what are the Beatitudes basically about? The Beatitudes are Jesus saying,

00:45:29.000 --> 00:45:34.000
rest in your neediness,

00:45:34.000 --> 00:45:39.000
rest in your weakness,

00:45:39.000 --> 00:45:44.000
rest in your meekness, and you will be blessed.

00:45:44.000 --> 00:45:49.000
How crazy is that, man?

00:45:49.000 --> 00:45:54.000
Rest in your meekness, rest in your neediness, rest in your weakness,

00:45:54.000 --> 00:45:59.000
and you will be blessed. That's what the Beatitudes are about.

00:45:59.000 --> 00:46:04.000
We try to take the Beatitudes and mix it with a little bit of how we should be in the world to succeed.

00:46:04.000 --> 00:46:09.000
And then we create our me-attitudes.

00:46:09.000 --> 00:46:14.000
Jesus was me-attitudes, not me-attitudes.

00:46:14.000 --> 00:46:19.000
And we mix it up. And we can't afford to mix it up,

00:46:19.000 --> 00:46:24.000
because that's why Christians don't look very different from the world.

00:46:24.000 --> 00:46:29.000
They look slightly different.

00:46:29.000 --> 00:46:34.000
What this means is I no longer generate, I no longer try to generate

00:46:35.000 --> 00:46:40.000
confidence.

00:46:40.000 --> 00:46:45.000
But I actually groove in my weakness

00:46:45.000 --> 00:46:50.000
and my inadequacy.

00:46:50.000 --> 00:46:55.000
Man, we can get here, guys. We can get here.

00:46:55.000 --> 00:47:00.000
We don't try to generate a drum up confidence.

00:47:00.000 --> 00:47:05.000
We groove in our...groove is an old 60s word that some of us will understand.

00:47:05.000 --> 00:47:10.000
We groove in our weakness and our inadequacy.

00:47:10.000 --> 00:47:15.000
Okay, we embrace. Embrace sounds like...

00:47:15.000 --> 00:47:20.000
Groove has become very comfortable in it.

00:47:20.000 --> 00:47:25.000
Like the beat just gets...so we groove in our inadequacy

00:47:25.000 --> 00:47:30.000
and our weakness. It's okay. We are okay with it.

00:47:30.000 --> 00:47:35.000
One of the things that at least I can say happens

00:47:35.000 --> 00:47:40.000
for me when I'm in your midst is I don't care about my weaknesses

00:47:40.000 --> 00:47:45.000
and my inadequacies. I'm not scared of them.

00:47:45.000 --> 00:47:50.000
You're partly responsible for it, because you make it easy. You make it easy.

00:47:50.000 --> 00:47:55.000
Don't have to put up any show here.

00:48:02.000 --> 00:48:07.000
This is what Jesus is asking for. So now when I behave like this,

00:48:07.000 --> 00:48:12.000
when I am weak,

00:48:12.000 --> 00:48:17.000
his strong presence

00:48:17.000 --> 00:48:22.000
tends over me.

00:48:22.000 --> 00:48:27.000
Where is that from? 2 Corinthians 12.9.

00:48:27.000 --> 00:48:32.000
His strong presence tends over me.

00:48:32.000 --> 00:48:37.000
The first time I went to Mongolia,

00:48:37.000 --> 00:48:42.000
first time I went to Mongolia, God did a whole lot of signs and wonders.

00:48:42.000 --> 00:48:47.000
I was there, they're expecting the same thing.

00:48:47.000 --> 00:48:52.000
I don't know how to recreate it. So they're doing worship up front.

00:48:52.000 --> 00:48:57.000
I'm in the last room, walking up and down, speaking in tongues, making declarations, praying like crazy,

00:48:57.000 --> 00:49:02.000
because they expect the same thing. And thank God the worship was long, because I got about 10 minutes in.

00:49:02.000 --> 00:49:07.000
After 10 minutes, I hear the Lord saying, did you do it last time?

00:49:07.000 --> 00:49:12.000
Can you stop speaking in tongues and pacing up and down, because it's not helping.

00:49:12.000 --> 00:49:17.000
So I stop, because you almost try to generate this.

00:49:17.000 --> 00:49:22.000
Can I do what it takes to make this happen, and you do not make it happen.

00:49:22.000 --> 00:49:27.000
Presence makes it happen. You were just fortunate that last time I turned up and you were aware of it.

00:49:27.000 --> 00:49:32.000
You can't create this. So you groove in your weakness. You groove in your inadequacy.

00:49:32.000 --> 00:49:37.000
You have this squat you can do. And that is when the presence of God begins to tent over a person or a people.

00:49:37.000 --> 00:49:42.000
Second Corinthians 12, 9 comes to pass.

00:49:42.000 --> 00:49:47.000
And therefore, Paul says,

00:49:47.000 --> 00:49:52.000
no longer do I regard these limitations and weaknesses as something that I have to hide.

00:49:52.000 --> 00:49:57.000
I begin to revel in them. I begin to boast about it.

00:49:58.000 --> 00:50:03.000
I begin to talk about it like it's a plus point.

00:50:03.000 --> 00:50:08.000
That's what he says.

00:50:08.000 --> 00:50:13.000
Weakness is no longer a regrettable limitation.

00:50:13.000 --> 00:50:18.000
It becomes what enriches presence over me.

00:50:18.000 --> 00:50:23.000
Weakness is no longer a regrettable limitation.

00:50:23.000 --> 00:50:28.000
One of the things we love doing during encounter is to ask ones who don't know how to do things.

00:50:28.000 --> 00:50:33.000
Hey, can you try and hear what God is doing and let God flow through you?

00:50:33.000 --> 00:50:38.000
Because in your weakness, he becomes super strong.

00:50:38.000 --> 00:50:43.000
Instead, we try so hard to pretend that everything is okay.

00:50:43.000 --> 00:50:48.000
Come on, man. Everything is not okay most of the time.

00:50:48.000 --> 00:50:53.000
Here's the part that

00:50:53.000 --> 00:50:58.000
talks about, addresses the question

00:50:58.000 --> 00:51:03.000
Jill was asking.

00:51:03.000 --> 00:51:08.000
So once we embrace it and groove in it,

00:51:08.000 --> 00:51:13.000
now you begin to recognize

00:51:13.000 --> 00:51:18.000
your weakness.

00:51:18.000 --> 00:51:23.000
You begin to recognize your limitations.

00:51:23.000 --> 00:51:28.000
And then some of it

00:51:28.000 --> 00:51:33.000
should disturb me.

00:51:33.000 --> 00:51:38.000
And I must take it seriously.

00:51:38.000 --> 00:51:43.000
And I must take it seriously.

00:51:43.000 --> 00:51:48.000
And I must work on it humbly.

00:51:48.000 --> 00:51:53.000
With God

00:51:53.000 --> 00:51:58.000
and with man.

00:51:58.000 --> 00:52:03.000
So on one hand, I'm okay with my inadequacy and weakness.

00:52:03.000 --> 00:52:08.000
But as I see these weaknesses, some of them will begin to disturb me.

00:52:08.000 --> 00:52:13.000
These are areas I can improve in.

00:52:13.000 --> 00:52:18.000
And because I can improve in them, I take them seriously.

00:52:18.000 --> 00:52:23.000
And when I begin to take it seriously, I go to God for help and I go to man for help.

00:52:23.000 --> 00:52:28.000
Yes, my arm is weak.

00:52:28.000 --> 00:52:33.000
God's arm is strong, he lifted. But as I'm growing, God will say,

00:52:33.000 --> 00:52:38.000
hey, I want to try and build some muscles into this arm of yours so that I can go help someone else

00:52:38.000 --> 00:52:43.000
while you lift stuff up. And so you now begin to work on certain weaknesses.

00:52:43.000 --> 00:52:48.000
But if you're planning to work only with God, God will say, oops, sorry, you'll have to go to

00:52:48.000 --> 00:52:53.000
so and so because they know how to strengthen your left arm. And so with both God and man,

00:52:53.000 --> 00:52:58.000
it's not, I will embrace my weakness and I'll never get better.

00:52:58.000 --> 00:53:03.000
These are my weaknesses. God will tend with great strength. But now I begin to improve them.

00:53:03.000 --> 00:53:08.000
So what Jesus expects

00:53:08.000 --> 00:53:13.000
is that he expects us to live in the tension

00:53:13.000 --> 00:53:18.000
of, he expects us to live in the tension

00:53:18.000 --> 00:53:23.000
of, he expects us to live in the tension

00:53:23.000 --> 00:53:28.000
of John 5 19. What does John 5 19 say? Apart from you, I can do

00:53:28.000 --> 00:53:33.000
nothing.

00:53:33.000 --> 00:53:38.000
He expects us to live in the tension of John 5 19 and then Matthew 11

00:53:38.000 --> 00:53:43.000
27 to 29. What does that say? Come to me, all you that are heavy laden.

00:53:43.000 --> 00:53:48.000
I'll give you rest. I'm gentle and meek. Take my yoke upon you. Walk with me.

00:53:48.000 --> 00:53:53.000
And Ephesians 4 12 to 13.

00:53:53.000 --> 00:53:58.000
Hey, I've also appointed people to help you so that we can

00:53:58.000 --> 00:54:03.000
all grow together into maturity. He expects us to live in the tension of these.

00:54:03.000 --> 00:54:08.000
Take my yoke. I'll go over things with you.

00:54:08.000 --> 00:54:13.000
I'll teach you. So it's all three. On one hand it says,

00:54:13.000 --> 00:54:18.000
on one hand you say, oh God I can't do anything without you. And then Jesus comes and says,

00:54:18.000 --> 00:54:23.000
well then walk by my side, take my yoke upon me. I'm really gentle, I can teach you well. Great oh God, you and me.

00:54:23.000 --> 00:54:28.000
Oh by the way, I've also appointed some guys to help you so you've got to go to them too so that you can become mature.

00:54:28.000 --> 00:54:33.000
And we live in the tension of all three.

00:54:33.000 --> 00:54:38.000
That's how we, on one hand, walk in our inadequacy, on the other hand we keep increasing in our strength.

00:54:38.000 --> 00:54:43.000
Yeah, as you practice you get better.

00:54:43.000 --> 00:54:48.000
Yeah.

00:54:48.000 --> 00:54:53.000
Yeah.

00:54:53.000 --> 00:54:58.000
It's easy to do

00:54:58.000 --> 00:55:03.000
one and two.

00:55:03.000 --> 00:55:08.000
Yes, it is easy to do one and two. Yeah, third one is a little harder.

00:55:08.000 --> 00:55:13.000
But we are learning. We are learning. Guys, we must, I must say this to you,

00:55:13.000 --> 00:55:18.000
like because I preach hard every Sunday, you don't get to hear how much you've changed

00:55:18.000 --> 00:55:23.000
and how amazing you are.

00:55:23.000 --> 00:55:28.000
My God.

00:55:28.000 --> 00:55:33.000
Personally not concerned about

00:55:33.000 --> 00:55:38.000
worth or achievement or accomplishment. Yeah.

00:55:38.000 --> 00:55:43.000
No, it is coming from the heart because I know

00:55:43.000 --> 00:55:48.000
each of you quite well and you perhaps don't see the change.

00:55:48.000 --> 00:55:53.000
Just as you who have been here for 15, 16 years have seen changes in me.

00:55:53.000 --> 00:55:58.000
And so we are changing, guys.

00:55:58.000 --> 00:56:03.000
But because what we teach is hard, sometimes it doesn't appear so,

00:56:03.000 --> 00:56:08.000
but we are changing. We are changing to become like Christ, eh?

00:56:08.000 --> 00:56:13.000
I mean, you think Renny hasn't changed?

00:56:13.000 --> 00:56:18.000
You think Jill hasn't changed? She's only been here for three years.

00:56:18.000 --> 00:56:23.000
Me? Oh my God. Don? Let's not even go there.

00:56:23.000 --> 00:56:28.000
He was planning to leave the church, by the way.

00:56:28.000 --> 00:56:33.000
Oh.

00:56:33.000 --> 00:56:38.000
Guys,

00:56:38.000 --> 00:56:43.000
guys, as much as all this is true, most of us, and I pray God that this doesn't

00:56:43.000 --> 00:56:48.000
continue for us, most of us are trying to become one, what we are not,

00:56:48.000 --> 00:56:53.000
and let's abandon this. Or we are trying to become

00:56:53.000 --> 00:56:58.000
what someone else is,

00:56:58.000 --> 00:57:03.000
or we are trying to prove what we have, prove what we have already become.

00:57:03.000 --> 00:57:08.000
There was this guy called Ahimaaz in 2 Samuel 18, 19.

00:57:08.000 --> 00:57:13.000
He wanted to become what he was not. He was Zadak's son.

00:57:13.000 --> 00:57:18.000
Zadak was a high priest. He was supposed to walk before God. He wants to run.

00:57:18.000 --> 00:57:23.000
He wants to be a runner. Sometimes we desire what someone else,

00:57:23.000 --> 00:57:28.000
we want to become what we are not.

00:57:28.000 --> 00:57:33.000
Then sometimes we want to become what someone else is. Someone else is this,

00:57:33.000 --> 00:57:38.000
so I want this too. And then when you don't get it, James 4, verses 1-6

00:57:38.000 --> 00:57:43.000
kicks in. What does it say? Why is it that you have conflicts and quarrels

00:57:43.000 --> 00:57:48.000
within Jacob? Isn't it because you desire what someone else has and you don't get it?

00:57:48.000 --> 00:57:53.000
But you don't come and pray to me. Instead you begin to pray amiss and the conflict

00:57:53.000 --> 00:57:58.000
increases. You try to become what you are not,

00:57:58.000 --> 00:58:03.000
you try to become what someone else is, or you are continuously trying to prove what you become.

00:58:03.000 --> 00:58:08.000
If you become something, people will see it. Don't keep supplying evidence for it.

00:58:08.000 --> 00:58:13.000
She doesn't need to supply any evidence. They are both pregnant. It's very obvious.

00:58:13.000 --> 00:58:18.000
I am not.

00:58:18.000 --> 00:58:23.000
I am not. Just so you know.

00:58:23.000 --> 00:58:28.000
Everyone is looking at me.

00:58:28.000 --> 00:58:33.000
One of the ways to avoid

00:58:33.000 --> 00:58:38.000
our weaknesses from being recognized is to isolate ourselves.

00:58:38.000 --> 00:58:43.000
Isolate ourselves, create distance,

00:58:43.000 --> 00:58:48.000
shield myself from correction.

00:58:55.000 --> 00:59:00.000
Let's not do this. Let's not do it.

00:59:00.000 --> 00:59:05.000
We want our weaknesses to be strengthened.

00:59:05.000 --> 00:59:10.000
We want our weaknesses to be strengthened. So let's not isolate ourselves.

00:59:10.000 --> 00:59:15.000
Let's not create distance. Let's not shield ourselves from correction.

00:59:22.000 --> 00:59:27.000
The strange thing is if I am an elbow and I am not connected to the rest of the body,

00:59:27.000 --> 00:59:32.000
I will not know my weakness. It's sin being connected to the rest of the body

00:59:32.000 --> 00:59:37.000
that you recognize whether the elbow is working well or not. An elbow by itself,

00:59:37.000 --> 00:59:42.000
you don't know whether it's greased, you don't know whether it's rusty, you don't.

00:59:42.000 --> 00:59:47.000
It's in the context of being with you that my weaknesses will be shown.

00:59:47.000 --> 00:59:52.000
And when those weaknesses are shown, now I have a choice to get better.

00:59:52.000 --> 00:59:57.000
So as I am writing stuff on humility, I know one thing.

00:59:57.000 --> 01:00:02.000
Nobody has ever said this of me except Sue's mum.

01:00:02.000 --> 01:00:07.000
She said that when I think of Jacob, I think of a really humble guy.

01:00:07.000 --> 01:00:12.000
Some of you are smiling. Wipe that grin off your face.

01:00:12.000 --> 01:00:17.000
But nobody says that. People may say when I think of Jacob, great faith.

01:00:17.000 --> 01:00:22.000
But they wouldn't say when I think of Jacob, I do not think of someone who is humble.

01:00:22.000 --> 01:00:27.000
Sue's mum said that. And I'm sure she got a bigger mansion just for that.

01:00:27.000 --> 01:00:32.000
I would like some words to be associated with me and this is not one of the words associated with me.

01:00:32.000 --> 01:00:37.000
And so it's in the context of a body that weakness is exposed.

01:00:37.000 --> 01:00:42.000
And therefore it can be strengthened.

01:00:42.000 --> 01:00:47.000
So if I shield it, then it's not corrected.

01:00:47.000 --> 01:00:52.000
I think half the church is outside there.

01:00:52.000 --> 01:00:57.000
I just want to touch on one more thing before we go to solutions.

01:00:57.000 --> 01:01:02.000
And here's that one thing.

01:01:02.000 --> 01:01:07.000
Pride often leads to self-seeking.

01:01:07.000 --> 01:01:12.000
It leads to bitter envy.

01:01:12.000 --> 01:01:17.000
And we've got a God against us in this church.

01:01:18.000 --> 01:01:23.000
Because self-seeking is when you want to be chosen.

01:01:23.000 --> 01:01:28.000
When bitter envy comes in when someone else is chosen.

01:01:28.000 --> 01:01:33.000
And here's the problem with this, guys.

01:01:33.000 --> 01:01:38.000
It says in James chapter 3, verse 14, it says,

01:01:38.000 --> 01:01:43.000
where self-seeking and bitter envy exist,

01:01:43.000 --> 01:01:48.000
there will always be the demonic,

01:01:48.000 --> 01:01:53.000
the soulish,

01:01:53.000 --> 01:01:58.000
what is soulish and sensual,

01:01:58.000 --> 01:02:03.000
and what is

01:02:03.000 --> 01:02:08.000
unspiritual.

01:02:08.000 --> 01:02:13.000
So eliminate this from your life, guys, because we can't afford it as a church.

01:02:20.000 --> 01:02:25.000
Where there is self-seeking and where there is bitter envy,

01:02:25.000 --> 01:02:30.000
and both are provoked by a lack of humility or provoked by pride,

01:02:30.000 --> 01:02:35.000
as in when I am slighted, when I am not chosen,

01:02:35.000 --> 01:02:40.000
and I am not included, when someone else is chosen,

01:02:40.000 --> 01:02:45.000
bitter envy and self-seeking kicks in.

01:02:45.000 --> 01:02:50.000
And the moment it kicks in, immediately in the church or in the group or wherever,

01:02:50.000 --> 01:02:55.000
these three things are released. The demonic, what is sensual or soulish,

01:02:55.000 --> 01:03:00.000
and what is unspiritual. And then it says in verse 16 that with that comes

01:03:00.000 --> 01:03:05.000
all forms of disorder, ungodliness, and uncleanness.

01:03:05.000 --> 01:03:10.000
We got to be free of this, eh? Whenever this happens to you,

01:03:10.000 --> 01:03:15.000
just make sure you run to a safe place because it pollutes the entire body.

01:03:15.000 --> 01:03:20.000
Even when you're being treated unfairly, think of the rest and choose not to.

01:03:20.000 --> 01:03:25.000
All righty, solutions.

01:03:29.000 --> 01:03:34.000
Any questions, guys?

01:03:34.000 --> 01:03:39.000
James 3, verse 14 to 16.

01:03:39.000 --> 01:03:44.000
Yep.

01:03:44.000 --> 01:03:49.000
Yeah.

01:03:49.000 --> 01:03:54.000
Yeah, if you know that someone is feeling slighted or overlooked,

01:03:54.000 --> 01:03:59.000
you should come and tell someone who may be able to help with them being slighted or overlooked.

01:03:59.000 --> 01:04:04.000
Yeah. Because it doesn't mean that when something is done wrong,

01:04:04.000 --> 01:04:09.000
we let it slide. But there's two things that happens when something is done wrong.

01:04:09.000 --> 01:04:14.000
When something is wrong, you must choose to rise over being wronged

01:04:14.000 --> 01:04:19.000
because that's what we are called to do. And then the person who is wrong

01:04:19.000 --> 01:04:24.000
must either approach or have someone else talk to the person who can help fix

01:04:24.000 --> 01:04:29.000
the being wronged. It's both. It's not one or the other.

01:04:29.000 --> 01:04:34.000
But you have a role to play in not being slighted, offended, bitter,

01:04:34.000 --> 01:04:39.000
what is the other word?

01:04:39.000 --> 01:04:44.000
No. Oh, shucks. Nothing there. The other word. Yeah.

01:04:44.000 --> 01:04:49.000
Bitter envy and self-seeking.

01:04:49.000 --> 01:04:54.000
Gotta work against it, eh? Okay, solutions. How do we

01:04:54.000 --> 01:04:59.000
go into this place of humility? So let's take 1 Peter 5,

01:04:59.000 --> 01:05:04.000
1 Peter 5, 5-7. Let me just quickly read it

01:05:04.000 --> 01:05:09.000
and then we can use that. 1 Peter 5, 5-7.

01:05:09.000 --> 01:05:14.000
It says that in the same way you who are younger submit yourself to the elders,

01:05:14.000 --> 01:05:19.000
all of you clothe yourself with humility towards one another. This applies to spouses also, eh?

01:05:19.000 --> 01:05:24.000
Some of the places where this humility priding really kicks in between spouses,

01:05:24.000 --> 01:05:29.000
all of you clothe yourselves with humility towards one another because God opposes the proud

01:05:29.000 --> 01:05:34.000
but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under God's mighty hand that He may lift you up

01:05:34.000 --> 01:05:39.000
in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

01:05:39.000 --> 01:05:44.000
And then it goes on to tell, remember, Satan's roaming like a lion. So the first thing is

01:05:44.000 --> 01:05:49.000
wrap the

01:05:49.000 --> 01:05:54.000
apron of servant humility

01:05:54.000 --> 01:05:59.000
towards

01:05:59.000 --> 01:06:04.000
each other.

01:06:04.000 --> 01:06:09.000
There are days when I don't like some of you, for whatever reason. Those are the days when I will wrap

01:06:09.000 --> 01:06:14.000
myself in an apron of humility so that when I meet you and I come here,

01:06:14.000 --> 01:06:19.000
I'll be extra nice to you.

01:06:19.000 --> 01:06:24.000
Maybe you've done nothing to be in a space where I should have anything against you.

01:06:24.000 --> 01:06:29.000
But for whatever reason, let's say I'm annoyed or irritated with you.

01:06:29.000 --> 01:06:34.000
I'm not saying it's right. But those are the days when if I come in here with that attitude,

01:06:34.000 --> 01:06:39.000
I'll screw up this entire place.

01:06:39.000 --> 01:06:44.000
I have to wrap myself with an apron of humility. But Jacob, wouldn't it be better if you were not annoyed?

01:06:44.000 --> 01:06:49.000
Yes.

01:06:49.000 --> 01:06:54.000
Once you wrap yourself in the...

01:06:54.000 --> 01:06:59.000
It's amazing. You can tell a servant to do multiple tasks and they keep doing it without

01:06:59.000 --> 01:07:04.000
grimacing, without letting things get in the way. That's not how we see servants today.

01:07:04.000 --> 01:07:09.000
But in the Old Testament and in certain parts of the world, if you're a servant, it doesn't matter how many times

01:07:09.000 --> 01:07:14.000
Elijah tells you to climb up the mountain to see a cloud that doesn't exist. You go happily and come back happily.

01:07:14.000 --> 01:07:19.000
Thank God I was not Elijah's servant up and down the mountain.

01:07:19.000 --> 01:07:24.000
And so the idea is, can you wrap yourself in an apron of humility

01:07:24.000 --> 01:07:29.000
so that when you know you are not doing well with a person, that is when you

01:07:29.000 --> 01:07:34.000
begin to serve the person even better.

01:07:34.000 --> 01:07:39.000
Second,

01:07:39.000 --> 01:07:44.000
be okay about humiliation.

01:07:44.000 --> 01:07:49.000
Be okay about humiliation. Look at what it says there, man.

01:07:49.000 --> 01:07:54.000
It says, humble yourself under the mighty hand of God.

01:07:54.000 --> 01:07:59.000
What's he trying to say? He's saying there will be times

01:07:59.000 --> 01:08:04.000
when God will be okay with bringing you low

01:08:04.000 --> 01:08:09.000
so that self dies.

01:08:09.000 --> 01:08:14.000
This goes against Pentecostal thinking. This goes against what I really want. What do I want?

01:08:14.000 --> 01:08:19.000
I want to be the head and not the tail. I want to be above and not below.

01:08:19.000 --> 01:08:24.000
If you come from a Pentecostal background, those are powerful scriptures that you've used.

01:08:24.000 --> 01:08:29.000
But there are times when it is okay for God to have me be humiliated

01:08:29.000 --> 01:08:34.000
so that self may die

01:08:34.000 --> 01:08:39.000
and I may be brought low.

01:08:39.000 --> 01:08:44.000
No, Jacob, God would never do this. He did it to his son

01:08:44.000 --> 01:08:49.000
for good reasons.

01:08:49.000 --> 01:08:54.000
And he will do it to you for good reasons too.

01:08:54.000 --> 01:08:59.000
That you may be obedient unto death.

01:08:59.000 --> 01:09:04.000
If it's not clear, we must be okay about humiliation

01:09:04.000 --> 01:09:09.000
under the mighty hand of God because he sometimes uses it to bring me low

01:09:09.000 --> 01:09:14.000
and to have myself die.

01:09:14.000 --> 01:09:19.000
Guys, the dangerous thing is if we take the scripture and apply it to everything that's happening in our lives.

01:09:19.000 --> 01:09:24.000
But I'm assuming you have more sense than that.

01:09:24.000 --> 01:09:29.000
This is when Don used to say, Amen.

01:09:29.000 --> 01:09:34.000
It doesn't apply to everything, but there are times when I must recognize that it's okay, Jacob.

01:09:34.000 --> 01:09:39.000
It's okay.

01:09:39.000 --> 01:09:44.000
I've gone to places where people have shouted at me

01:09:44.000 --> 01:09:49.000
in front of their family, in front of their children for no good reason.

01:09:49.000 --> 01:09:54.000
There was no good reason. And you walk out of there with your head low but your heart high

01:09:54.000 --> 01:09:59.000
knowing that you're not going to say a word back.

01:09:59.000 --> 01:10:04.000
Because if you say a word, you don't want to visit them with anything that they're visiting you with.

01:10:04.000 --> 01:10:09.000
And you walk away humbly.

01:10:09.000 --> 01:10:14.000
You walk with your face down with your heart high knowing that you have done what you're supposed to do.

01:10:14.000 --> 01:10:19.000
That's completely okay. Now do you want vindication? You don't write a psalm after that saying,

01:10:19.000 --> 01:10:24.000
vindicate me, O Lord. Let their dog or whatever.

01:10:25.000 --> 01:10:30.000
Third one from 1 Peter 5.57.

01:10:30.000 --> 01:10:35.000
Cast your cares on him. Cast your cares on him.

01:10:35.000 --> 01:10:40.000
It's strange how that is added after humility. Cast your cares on him. Why?

01:10:40.000 --> 01:10:45.000
Because when we do not cast our anxieties on him, we sometimes go into self-reliance, distrust,

01:10:45.000 --> 01:10:50.000
and pride. Pride in our own ability to solve it.

01:10:50.000 --> 01:10:55.000
So what does that mean?

01:10:55.000 --> 01:11:00.000
Remember when a man is separate from God, pride seeks him.

01:11:00.000 --> 01:11:05.000
And if pride can have him, then God will resist him.

01:11:05.000 --> 01:11:10.000
When anxiety, cares, and worries come and you begin to pull away from God because you think

01:11:10.000 --> 01:11:15.000
you can be the architect of your future and you can solve it. When a man is separate from God, pride goes seeking for him.

01:11:21.000 --> 01:11:26.000
The next one is Philippians 2.6-7.

01:11:30.000 --> 01:11:35.000
It's such a beautiful passage. Just read with me, guys.

01:11:35.000 --> 01:11:40.000
Philippians 2.6-7 and we'll end with this.

01:11:40.000 --> 01:11:45.000
Philippians 2.6-7.

01:11:45.000 --> 01:11:50.000
He said,

01:12:15.000 --> 01:12:20.000
So,

01:12:20.000 --> 01:12:25.000
not at all.

01:12:25.000 --> 01:12:30.000
So,

01:12:30.000 --> 01:12:35.000
it's a way of thinking, guys.

01:12:35.000 --> 01:12:40.000
The first thing we need to realize is humility is a way of thinking.

01:12:40.000 --> 01:12:45.000
It is how God thinks.

01:12:45.000 --> 01:12:50.000
So,

01:12:50.000 --> 01:12:55.000
it is how God thinks.

01:12:55.000 --> 01:13:00.000
And so, to be like-minded will

01:13:00.000 --> 01:13:05.000
make us aware of his presence. Be like-minded.

01:13:05.000 --> 01:13:10.000
Be aware of presence. It's a way of thinking. And if it's a way of thinking,

01:13:10.000 --> 01:13:15.000
then, like Marcus was saying earlier, when you practice it, it becomes real.

01:13:15.000 --> 01:13:20.000
It's a way of thinking. I have to practice it. It is a way of thinking.

01:13:20.000 --> 01:13:25.000
Humility is a way of thinking. It says, think like Jesus.

01:13:25.000 --> 01:13:30.000
Be like-minded with him. Like-minded. Have the same mind as him.

01:13:30.000 --> 01:13:35.000
It's a way of thinking.

01:13:35.000 --> 01:13:40.000
So, how does his way of thinking work? Beautiful. How he says, he doesn't say, oh, I was a worm.

01:13:40.000 --> 01:13:45.000
No, he says, I was equal. I am equal with God.

01:13:45.000 --> 01:13:50.000
It begins with an accurate estimation. It begins with an accurate

01:13:50.000 --> 01:13:55.000
estimation of one's

01:13:55.000 --> 01:14:00.000
standing positionally with God, which is

01:14:00.000 --> 01:14:05.000
sun and perfect forever and practically. And practically,

01:14:05.000 --> 01:14:10.000
it's harder to measure. Positionally, we know who we are. We are perfect. We are holy.

01:14:10.000 --> 01:14:15.000
We are heaven bound. We have Christ living in us. There's no

01:14:15.000 --> 01:14:20.000
sin in us. We have been made perfect forever by one sacrifice. Positionally, we must

01:14:20.000 --> 01:14:25.000
have an accurate estimation of ourselves. And then practically, too, we must have an estimation of ourselves.

01:14:25.000 --> 01:14:30.000
That's a little harder. But when you live with the people, practically, it becomes a little easier.

01:14:30.000 --> 01:14:35.000
When you live by yourself, you don't know what you don't know.

01:14:35.000 --> 01:14:40.000
Marriage is one of the

01:14:40.000 --> 01:14:45.000
easiest ways to find out what you don't know. Stay single

01:14:45.000 --> 01:14:50.000
and you don't have that problem.

01:14:50.000 --> 01:14:55.000
So, accurate estimation of oneself. After that, the next thing is

01:14:55.000 --> 01:15:00.000
don't grasp,

01:15:00.000 --> 01:15:05.000
don't seize, don't sulk,

01:15:05.000 --> 01:15:10.000
don't jockey for

01:15:10.000 --> 01:15:15.000
inclusion, recognition,

01:15:15.000 --> 01:15:20.000
privileges,

01:15:20.000 --> 01:15:25.000
or equality.

01:15:25.000 --> 01:15:30.000
That's the third thing Jesus does. First, he says, hey, think like me.

01:15:30.000 --> 01:15:35.000
Be like-minded. Second, he says, have an accurate estimation of who you are positionally and

01:15:35.000 --> 01:15:40.000
practically. Jacob, I know this is who you are. I told you positionally you are this with me.

01:15:40.000 --> 01:15:45.000
How about practically? How's it really working out in your life, Jacob? That you'll only

01:15:45.000 --> 01:15:50.000
know when you live with people. Because every fruit of the spirit,

01:15:50.000 --> 01:15:55.000
every gift of the spirit other than the gift of tongues, only works in

01:15:55.000 --> 01:16:00.000
relationship.

01:16:00.000 --> 01:16:05.000
Third, he says, now that you know yourself positionally and practically,

01:16:05.000 --> 01:16:10.000
don't grasp, don't seize, don't sulk, don't jockey for

01:16:10.000 --> 01:16:15.000
inclusion, don't jockey and sulk and seize and grasp for recognition, for privileges or

01:16:15.000 --> 01:16:20.000
equality. Stop it! Because I didn't. I let go of all of that,

01:16:20.000 --> 01:16:25.000
even though I had an absolute right to be one with the Godhead. I set it aside

01:16:25.000 --> 01:16:30.000
and I never grasped for it while I was on the earth. They said to me, you can call

01:16:30.000 --> 01:16:35.000
on a legion of angels and I refused.

01:16:35.000 --> 01:16:40.000
Set it aside.

01:16:40.000 --> 01:16:45.000
And then,

01:16:45.000 --> 01:16:50.000
even when the devil comes to tempt you,

01:16:50.000 --> 01:16:55.000
don't

01:16:55.000 --> 01:17:00.000
inflict or lick your wounds.

01:17:00.000 --> 01:17:05.000
So remember I was telling you that story where I went and I had done a lot of work and

01:17:05.000 --> 01:17:10.000
no credit was given to me? And it didn't bother me because it was self-forgetfulness.

01:17:10.000 --> 01:17:15.000
And then I remember going back home and I get home and then these voices

01:17:15.000 --> 01:17:20.000
start coming up in my head. Do you realize that you weren't recognized?

01:17:20.000 --> 01:17:25.000
Do you know how much you sacrificed?

01:17:25.000 --> 01:17:30.000
Maybe they don't think you're sophisticated enough. Maybe they didn't want to introduce you to their friends.

01:17:30.000 --> 01:17:35.000
Well, next time be careful about how much you give.

01:17:35.000 --> 01:17:40.000
Some people are not grateful. And these little voices

01:17:40.000 --> 01:17:45.000
are like a fool. Instead of shutting it down, I gave it some

01:17:45.000 --> 01:17:50.000
airtime, man. I didn't realize that I was doing it wrong.

01:17:50.000 --> 01:17:55.000
I gave it some airtime, man.

01:17:55.000 --> 01:18:00.000
And it was fascinating how pride, which is basically

01:18:00.000 --> 01:18:05.000
why I was beginning to get hurt and offended, crept in.

01:18:05.000 --> 01:18:10.000
And then I suddenly realized that I ran out to my balcony because it was winter when this happened.

01:18:10.000 --> 01:18:15.000
And cold air always does things to you. It makes you think right.

01:18:15.000 --> 01:18:20.000
I ran out to my balcony and I stood there for a while and walked around and the cold air brought me back to my senses.

01:18:20.000 --> 01:18:25.000
It was not the cold air, it was the Holy Spirit, but it felt cold.

01:18:25.000 --> 01:18:30.000
At the end of the day after I was done, I went back in and I was thinking to myself, Jacob, why did you even give it airtime?

01:18:30.000 --> 01:18:35.000
This is what we do. We sometimes walk away from situations without a scar and we go home and we give it airtime.

01:18:35.000 --> 01:18:40.000
And that is when he comes and says, if you were the son of God

01:18:41.000 --> 01:18:46.000
and you begin to inflict or lick your wounds, pride causes offense.

01:18:59.000 --> 01:19:04.000
Then he goes on to say, I deliberately make myself

01:19:04.000 --> 01:19:09.000
I deliberately make myself, I deliberately make myself

01:19:09.000 --> 01:19:14.000
of no reputation.

01:19:19.000 --> 01:19:24.000
Beautifully. Giving up privileges.

01:19:24.000 --> 01:19:29.000
Earned privileges that have been earned

01:19:29.000 --> 01:19:34.000
or bestowed or deserved. I give it up.

01:19:34.000 --> 01:19:39.000
This is what Jesus did. He's telling us how to go about this from Philippians 2.

01:19:39.000 --> 01:19:44.000
I deliberately, I know some of you old timers have heard this story before, but

01:19:44.000 --> 01:19:49.000
there was a lady at Acts 29, her name was Betty.

01:19:49.000 --> 01:19:54.000
Not the present Betty, this is the past Betty. And so Betty brought

01:19:54.000 --> 01:19:59.000
two well-known prophetic preachers from Ontario.

01:19:59.000 --> 01:20:04.000
And they came and Betty said, Jacob, is it okay if they preach?

01:20:04.000 --> 01:20:09.000
And I said yes. And so they came and she said, can you meet them?

01:20:09.000 --> 01:20:14.000
I said okay. So I went and picked them up. And they thought I was a taxi driver.

01:20:14.000 --> 01:20:19.000
So they came and then

01:20:19.000 --> 01:20:24.000
they told me they wanted Starbucks. Can I go get them some Starbucks?

01:20:24.000 --> 01:20:29.000
They thought I was hired for the entire day. So I went and got them Starbucks.

01:20:29.000 --> 01:20:34.000
Maybe I wasn't dressed well or whatever. I don't know.

01:20:34.000 --> 01:20:39.000
Ah, that was it.

01:20:39.000 --> 01:20:44.000
I didn't even realize because when you are humble, you don't realize.

01:20:44.000 --> 01:20:49.000
So then

01:20:49.000 --> 01:20:54.000
I had to go drop them at the shopping mall, wait for them. Then they said drop us back and then

01:20:54.000 --> 01:20:59.000
come and pick us up after we slept. And at some point I realized

01:20:59.000 --> 01:21:04.000
this is actually enjoyable when you deliberately make yourself of no reputation.

01:21:04.000 --> 01:21:09.000
So I actually took on that role. Like I wasn't even pretending.

01:21:09.000 --> 01:21:14.000
But I was also looking forward to the evening service.

01:21:14.000 --> 01:21:19.000
That is a part of me that was slightly sneaky because I thought to myself, alrighty, when they come for the evening

01:21:19.000 --> 01:21:24.000
service and Betty comes and introduces them to me, this is the past I wanted to see their face and it was priceless.

01:21:24.000 --> 01:21:29.000
But the point is, can I deliberately make

01:21:29.000 --> 01:21:34.000
and then they had an amazing prophetic word for me, which included humility.

01:21:34.000 --> 01:21:39.000
So I deliberately

01:21:39.000 --> 01:21:44.000
make myself of no reputation. This is something Jesus did.

01:21:44.000 --> 01:21:49.000
He took on the role of a servant.

01:21:49.000 --> 01:21:54.000
He took on the role of a servant.

01:21:54.000 --> 01:21:59.000
Giving up privileges that are earned, bestowed, deserved.

01:21:59.000 --> 01:22:04.000
Privileges you have earned, privileges you have been bestowed, privileges that you deserve.

01:22:04.000 --> 01:22:09.000
And then the last one is

01:22:09.000 --> 01:22:14.000
you come down to the lowest level in the room.

01:22:14.000 --> 01:22:19.000
You come down to the lowest level in the room.

01:22:19.000 --> 01:22:24.000
That of a born man.

01:22:24.000 --> 01:22:29.000
That of a born servant.

01:22:29.000 --> 01:22:34.000
That's how low he went. And when that happens, the highest one

01:22:34.000 --> 01:22:39.000
tents on you.

01:22:39.000 --> 01:22:44.000
Always remember guys, the grace of God

01:22:44.000 --> 01:22:49.000
looks for the greatest depression.

01:22:49.000 --> 01:22:54.000
Because like water, the grace of God looks for the greatest depression.

01:22:54.000 --> 01:22:59.000
In this room, the grace of God finds someone

01:22:59.000 --> 01:23:04.000
who actually in their heart thinks nothing of themselves.

01:23:04.000 --> 01:23:09.000
Because like water, it will find the lowest place

01:23:09.000 --> 01:23:14.000
and that is what it begins to fill first.

01:23:14.000 --> 01:23:19.000
And this is why sometimes some of the richest things come from some of the most

01:23:19.000 --> 01:23:24.000
unexpected, unknown places. What good can come from Nazareth?

01:23:24.000 --> 01:23:29.000
Some of the lowest places in Galilee.

01:23:29.000 --> 01:23:34.000
That's why I marvel at some of you. You have such low places

01:23:34.000 --> 01:23:39.000
but I just am fascinated at how God is using you.

01:23:39.000 --> 01:23:44.000
I don't pick on names but I'm in awe of you.

01:23:51.000 --> 01:23:56.000
To walk in presence we have to be obedient. To be obedient we have to be humble.

01:23:56.000 --> 01:24:01.000
To be humble we have to depend on others.

01:24:01.000 --> 01:24:06.000
To walk in presence we have to be obedient. To be obedient we have to be humble. To be humble we have to be dependent.

01:24:06.000 --> 01:24:11.000
In a sense, salvation is the restoration of lost humility.

01:24:18.000 --> 01:24:23.000
To walk in presence you have to be obedient.

01:24:23.000 --> 01:24:28.000
To be obedient you have to be humble. Jesus, Philippians 2, 6-7.

01:24:28.000 --> 01:24:33.000
He was obedient. He humbled himself. He was obedient unto death.

01:24:33.000 --> 01:24:38.000
To walk in presence you have to be humble. To be humble you have to be dependent.

01:24:38.000 --> 01:24:43.000
To be humble you have to be dependent.

01:24:43.000 --> 01:24:48.000
And so salvation in a sense

01:24:48.000 --> 01:24:53.000
or redemption is the restoration

01:24:53.000 --> 01:24:58.000
of lost humility.

01:24:58.000 --> 01:25:03.000
And so that makes us entirely dependent upon the presence of God.

01:25:03.000 --> 01:25:08.000
So I'll stop there.

01:25:08.000 --> 01:25:13.000
Can someone lead us in prayer with regard to this church

01:25:13.000 --> 01:25:18.000
walking with greater humility? Can someone pray that I walk in greater humility?

01:25:18.000 --> 01:25:23.000
I don't want to say word of caution, but some people say,

01:25:23.000 --> 01:25:28.000
Oh God, humble us.

01:25:28.000 --> 01:25:33.000
And to me that's scary because you said humble yourself.

01:25:33.000 --> 01:25:38.000
I'd rather humble myself and have God.

01:25:38.000 --> 01:25:43.000
I was reading a story of a Jewish rabbi who stood before the Lord and said,

01:25:43.000 --> 01:25:48.000
I'm nothing. And then his cantor came and he also knelt before the Lord and said,

01:25:48.000 --> 01:25:53.000
I'm nothing. And then there was a janitor. He came and said, I'm nothing too.

01:25:53.000 --> 01:25:58.000
And the rabbi turned to the cantor and said, who does he think he is?

01:25:58.000 --> 01:26:03.000
So it can get quite nasty when everybody is crying out humble us, humble us.

01:26:03.000 --> 01:26:08.000
But let's ask God with this caution for humility in this church

01:26:08.000 --> 01:26:13.000
where when we ask that strange thing happens, God begins to point out the areas of pride,

01:26:13.000 --> 01:26:18.000
areas of elitism, areas of exclusivity.

01:26:18.000 --> 01:26:23.000
And then please pray that

01:26:23.000 --> 01:26:28.000
I'll walk in greater humility.

01:26:28.000 --> 01:26:33.000
Humble yourselves in the sight of God. So we are going to God and saying, Oh God, we want this.

01:26:33.000 --> 01:26:38.000
Please help us.

01:26:38.000 --> 01:26:43.000
So pray the best you can because I think

01:26:43.000 --> 01:26:48.000
there's a point to what Jill is saying. It always says, hey, humble yourselves.

01:26:48.000 --> 01:26:53.000
Otherwise God has to humble us, but I would prefer if we humbled ourselves.

01:26:53.000 --> 01:26:58.000
So pray the best you know how.

01:26:58.000 --> 01:27:03.000
And pray for me. Why am I asking you to pray for me?

01:27:03.000 --> 01:27:08.000
One, because it's an admission that I needed.

01:27:08.000 --> 01:27:13.000
And two, if that happens, it will benefit me and it will benefit us all.

01:27:13.000 --> 01:27:18.000
Yeah? So.

01:27:29.000 --> 01:27:34.000
Father, right from 2 Chronicles 7 or 1 Chronicles 7,

01:27:34.000 --> 01:27:39.000
you've been saying stuff like, if my people humble themselves.

01:27:39.000 --> 01:27:44.000
In the New Testament, Paul says, humble yourselves or humble ourselves.

01:27:44.000 --> 01:27:49.000
And then Jesus, you showed us how this works.

01:27:49.000 --> 01:27:54.000
We just talked about it.

01:27:54.000 --> 01:27:59.000
Because we want to be aware of your presence, because your presence never leaves.

01:27:59.000 --> 01:28:04.000
Because we want your presence to have the freedom, the unrestrained freedom to flow through us across the earth.

01:28:04.000 --> 01:28:09.000
We are asking for this soil.

01:28:09.000 --> 01:28:14.000
Actually the word humility, guys, comes from the word humus. Humus means ground or soil.

01:28:14.000 --> 01:28:19.000
And to be humble is to walk close to the ground or soil.

01:28:19.000 --> 01:28:24.000
To eke out an existence from the dust of the earth is what the word humble comes from. Humus.

01:28:24.000 --> 01:28:29.000
So Father, I ask for good ground above for us.

01:28:29.000 --> 01:28:34.000
So please help us pray and be Holy Spirit.

01:28:34.000 --> 01:28:39.000
And then the Lord will answer our prayers when we pray according to his will.

01:29:09.000 --> 01:29:14.000
So that we begin to reflect this nature of you to the world.

01:29:14.000 --> 01:29:19.000
That we stand out. There's a difference because we're okay to be humiliated.

01:29:19.000 --> 01:29:24.000
We're okay to say, hey, it's not my shadow that I want people to see, but I want people to see Christ shatter.

01:29:24.000 --> 01:29:29.000
And to let your shadow be what shines through me, requires that I humble myself.

01:29:29.000 --> 01:29:34.000
That I humble myself.

01:29:34.000 --> 01:29:39.000
So it's no longer me, but it's you.

01:29:39.000 --> 01:29:44.000
And Father, you know the conditions of our hearts.

01:29:44.000 --> 01:29:49.000
And there's too much deceitfulness in our hearts.

01:29:49.000 --> 01:29:54.000
And pridefulness.

01:29:54.000 --> 01:29:59.000
And just the things that we want to change.

01:29:59.000 --> 01:30:04.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us with your heart at times.

01:30:04.000 --> 01:30:09.000
Because through things where we become servants who follow you wholeheartedly,

01:30:09.000 --> 01:30:14.000
we can be a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:14.000 --> 01:30:19.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:19.000 --> 01:30:24.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:24.000 --> 01:30:29.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:29.000 --> 01:30:34.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:34.000 --> 01:30:39.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:39.000 --> 01:30:44.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:44.000 --> 01:30:49.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:49.000 --> 01:30:54.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:54.000 --> 01:30:59.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:30:59.000 --> 01:31:04.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:31:04.000 --> 01:31:09.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:31:09.000 --> 01:31:14.000
And I think that you are a shepherd who will guide us through the things that we want to change.

01:31:14.000 --> 01:31:21.000
I just want to ask as an example to us Father, what his weaknesses are.

01:31:21.000 --> 01:31:25.000
And I just thank you that he's able to bottle that for us.

01:31:25.000 --> 01:31:33.000
Because I think that's the first thing to humility is willing to be honest with ourselves and others, Father.

01:31:33.000 --> 01:31:37.000
What we need to change, Father.

01:31:37.000 --> 01:31:47.000
I pray for myself, Father, and the things that you show me that I can be honest and be willing to change.

01:31:47.000 --> 01:31:52.000
Thank you. Father, I struggle with entitlement.

01:31:52.000 --> 01:32:00.000
And when that is challenged, when privileges that I have either earned or deserved or have been bestowed upon me

01:32:00.000 --> 01:32:07.000
not given the attention or the respect, high bristle, Father,

01:32:07.000 --> 01:32:15.000
just take your finger, Father, and remind me so that that area changes, Father.

01:32:15.000 --> 01:32:19.000
That area changes.

01:32:30.000 --> 01:32:47.000
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

01:32:47.000 --> 01:32:57.000
Yeah. Yeah.

01:32:57.000 --> 01:33:20.000
Thank you, Father.

01:33:20.000 --> 01:33:32.000
Yeah, man.

01:33:32.000 --> 01:33:39.000
Yeah, Jesus. Yeah, Jesus.

01:33:39.000 --> 01:33:43.000
Yeah. Hallelujah.

01:33:43.000 --> 01:33:57.000
Hallelujah. Yeah. Yeah.

01:33:57.000 --> 01:34:07.000
Thank you. Yeah.

01:34:07.000 --> 01:34:32.000
Yeah, man. Yeah.

01:34:32.000 --> 01:34:59.000
Yeah. Yeah.

01:34:59.000 --> 01:35:09.000
Yeah. Yeah, man.

01:35:09.000 --> 01:35:19.000
Have the same mind as that of Christ.

01:35:19.000 --> 01:35:21.000
He's here. He's listening. He will answer.

01:35:21.000 --> 01:35:26.000
So feel free to pray if you want to.

01:35:26.000 --> 01:35:53.000
He's praying for us.

01:35:53.000 --> 01:36:08.000
Yeah. Yeah.

01:36:08.000 --> 01:36:27.000
Thank you.

01:36:27.000 --> 01:36:48.000
Yeah.

01:36:48.000 --> 01:37:13.000
Thank you.

01:37:13.000 --> 01:37:30.000
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

01:37:30.000 --> 01:37:49.000
The joy of humility. Crazy.

01:37:49.000 --> 01:38:09.000
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome.

01:38:09.000 --> 01:38:14.000
John 13, verse one to three, knowing where he had come from and knowing where he was going,

01:38:14.000 --> 01:38:19.000
he took off his robes and he began to wash the disciples' feet.

01:38:19.000 --> 01:38:31.000
Help us know, Father.

01:38:31.000 --> 01:38:56.000
Anyone else?

01:38:56.000 --> 01:39:15.000
Yeah.

01:39:15.000 --> 01:39:44.000
Yeah.

01:39:44.000 --> 01:40:12.000
Yeah.

01:40:12.000 --> 01:40:18.000
Amen. Hey, can you pull up on a hill far away?

01:40:18.000 --> 01:40:35.000
Stood an old rugged cross. We'll end with that.

01:40:35.000 --> 01:40:54.000
How many know this song without the words?

01:40:54.000 --> 01:41:00.000
Anyone who's about 30.

01:41:00.000 --> 01:41:08.000
Hey, feel free.

01:41:08.000 --> 01:41:16.000
It's called the old rugged cross.

01:41:16.000 --> 01:41:20.000
On a hill far away.

01:41:20.000 --> 01:41:25.000
Stood an old rugged cross.

01:41:25.000 --> 01:41:33.000
The emblem of suffering and shame.

01:41:33.000 --> 01:41:37.000
And I love that old cross.

01:41:37.000 --> 01:41:42.000
Where the dearest and best.

01:41:42.000 --> 01:41:50.000
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

01:41:50.000 --> 01:41:58.000
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross.

01:41:58.000 --> 01:42:06.000
Till my trophies at last I lay down.

01:42:06.000 --> 01:42:14.000
And I will cling to the old rugged cross.

01:42:14.000 --> 01:42:23.000
And exchange it someday for a crown.

01:42:23.000 --> 01:42:27.000
Oh, that old rugged cross.

01:42:27.000 --> 01:42:31.000
So despised by the world.

01:42:31.000 --> 01:42:39.000
As a wondrous attraction for me.

01:42:39.000 --> 01:42:43.000
For the dear lamb of God.

01:42:43.000 --> 01:42:47.000
Left his glory above.

01:42:47.000 --> 01:42:56.000
To bear it to dark Calvary.

01:42:56.000 --> 01:43:04.000
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross.

01:43:04.000 --> 01:43:12.000
Till my trophies at last I lay down.

01:43:12.000 --> 01:43:21.000
And I will cling to the old rugged cross.

01:43:21.000 --> 01:43:29.000
And I'll exchange it someday for a crown.

01:43:29.000 --> 01:43:33.000
In that old rugged cross.

01:43:33.000 --> 01:43:38.000
Stained with blood so divine.

01:43:38.000 --> 01:43:46.000
A wondrous beauty I see.

01:43:46.000 --> 01:43:50.000
Thoughts was on that old cross.

01:43:50.000 --> 01:43:54.000
She's a sufferer that dith.

01:43:54.000 --> 01:44:02.000
To pardon and sanctify me.

01:44:02.000 --> 01:44:10.000
So I'll cherish that old rugged cross.

01:44:10.000 --> 01:44:18.000
Till my trophies at last I lay down.

01:44:18.000 --> 01:44:26.000
And I will cling to the old rugged cross.

01:44:26.000 --> 01:44:34.000
And exchange it someday for a crown.

01:44:34.000 --> 01:44:38.000
To the old rugged cross.

01:44:38.000 --> 01:44:42.000
I will ever be true.

01:44:42.000 --> 01:44:50.000
It's shame and reproach gladly bear.

01:44:50.000 --> 01:44:54.000
Then he'll call me someday.

01:44:54.000 --> 01:44:58.000
To my home far away.

01:44:58.000 --> 01:45:06.000
Where is glory forever I'll say.

01:45:06.000 --> 01:45:14.000
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross.

01:45:14.000 --> 01:45:22.000
Till my trophies at last I lay down.

01:45:22.000 --> 01:45:30.000
I will cling to the old rugged cross.

01:45:30.000 --> 01:45:39.000
And exchange it someday for a crown.

01:45:39.000 --> 01:45:41.000
We bless you father.

01:45:41.000 --> 01:45:46.000

01:45:49.000 --> 01:45:51.000

01:45:51.000 --> 01:45:53.000
Weekday after weekday.

01:45:53.000 --> 01:45:56.000
