Why is it an occasional thing? 00:00:37.240 --> 00:00:44.240 Why is it that we don't see the power of God surging through us on a regular basis? So 00:00:44.240 --> 00:00:49.760 we've done two in the series, this is the third part and so that's where we continue 00:00:49.760 --> 00:00:56.760 from because in Acts 1 verse 8, Acts 1 8 it says, but you will receive power when the 00:01:02.240 --> 00:01:07.160 Holy Spirit has come upon you. So that's already happened. So if I have received power, why 00:01:07.160 --> 00:01:12.560 isn't it showing on a regular basis? So try going back and looking at the first of the 00:01:12.560 --> 00:01:18.160 series and it showed you why the Holy Spirit's power is present. He has intent, see, and 00:01:18.160 --> 00:01:25.160 when we don't subscribe to his intent and still want the power, then it's an occasional 00:01:26.000 --> 00:01:31.760 flash in the pan because he's very purposeful, very deliberate and so when his intent is 00:01:31.760 --> 00:01:36.520 not the intent that I want power for or when his way of displaying it is not the way I 00:01:36.520 --> 00:01:41.080 want to display it, then every so often you will see the power of God but you won't see 00:01:41.080 --> 00:01:46.080 it to the extent that you want to and so that was the first one. God began creation by naming things. So he divides the darkness from the 00:03:36.680 --> 00:03:41.800 light and the first thing he does, in Hebrew it's a word called k-q-a-r-a-kara and it says 00:03:42.120 --> 00:03:46.880 that the first thing he did after he divided light and darkness is he called the light 00:03:46.880 --> 00:03:51.600 day and he called the darkness night. Then verse 8 you see him doing it again. He called 00:03:51.600 --> 00:03:58.600 the expanse sky. He named it. So God began creation by naming because right off the bat 00:04:00.120 --> 00:04:06.760 there are things about the name or a name that carry so much weight in both the kingdom 00:04:06.760 --> 00:04:12.720 and when it comes to things that God wants to do. Adam began to imitate him. So God began 00:04:12.720 --> 00:04:17.080 by naming things as soon as creation happened. Adam began to imitate him. One of the first 00:04:17.080 --> 00:04:24.080 things Adam does is begin to name things. He named his wife. So there's much in a name. 00:04:26.200 --> 00:04:33.200 So when you, I mean just on the side, when you name your child try not to put your first 00:04:33.280 --> 00:04:38.760 two letters and your wife's first two letters together if it sounds cute eh? Or don't do 00:04:38.760 --> 00:04:45.760 what Elon Musk did. X, Y, R, T, Phi. It doesn't work. Give them names that mean something 00:04:46.440 --> 00:04:53.440 because it's an old God trick. God loves doing that. Yeah? And so I knew someone who named 00:04:56.680 --> 00:05:00.600 their daughter Immaculate Conception. Can you imagine living with that name for the 00:05:00.600 --> 00:05:07.600 rest of your life? So be careful how you name your children. It matters. In Exodus 00:05:09.440 --> 00:05:16.440 3.13, in Exodus 3.13 there's this conversation between God and Moses where Moses says to 00:05:18.160 --> 00:05:25.160 God, I'm going to the Egyptians but who shall I say sent me? And if they ask me what is 00:05:26.160 --> 00:05:33.160 your name what shall I say? And that's when God says tell them that I am has sent you. 00:05:35.320 --> 00:05:42.320 And in the name I am God was trying to define himself. And so when he says tell them that 00:05:44.120 --> 00:05:51.240 I am who I am say to this people of Israel I am has sent me to you. He's trying to describe 00:05:51.360 --> 00:05:58.360 his essence eh? And what was his essence? I absolutely am. No beginning, no end, no 00:06:07.800 --> 00:06:14.800 changing, no becoming. I am, I am true, I am true, I am true, I am true, I am true, 00:06:22.040 --> 00:06:29.040 I am reliable. This is what he's saying when he says I am. That I have no beginning, I 00:06:29.360 --> 00:06:34.480 have no end, I have no changing, I have no becoming. Everything that I am I will always 00:06:34.480 --> 00:06:41.040 be and therefore I am reliable. Just think of that for a second eh? That's what he says 00:06:41.040 --> 00:06:46.440 his name is. In Exodus 34 verse 6 and 7 he talks about he expands it a little more. He 00:06:46.440 --> 00:06:52.360 says I am gracious, I am compassionate but the first revelation of him is when he declares 00:06:52.360 --> 00:06:57.520 his name. And I love the fact that he says there is no changing in me, there is no becoming 00:06:57.520 --> 00:07:03.160 in me. I am not going to become kind, I am not going to become merciful. I am all this. 00:07:03.160 --> 00:07:10.160 I will always be this way and therefore I am reliable. In Isaiah 45 23 it said of Yahweh 00:07:11.160 --> 00:07:18.160 that Yahweh is one before whose name every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess. 00:07:18.640 --> 00:07:24.760 And then in Philippians 2 verse 9 and 10 Paul takes Isaiah 45 23 and he puts it on 00:07:24.760 --> 00:07:31.760 Jesus. No longer is it Yahweh before whom the knee bows. Now the knee bows before Jesus 00:07:31.760 --> 00:07:38.760 the Christ. And so we suddenly see that whatever Yahweh was Jesus now is. The same God who 00:07:39.040 --> 00:07:46.040 says this is present here now. Think of that for a second. The I am is present here now. 00:07:46.920 --> 00:07:52.600 We somehow have a tendency to separate I am as the most powerful one with Jesus who is 00:07:52.600 --> 00:07:59.600 pretty powerful and then the Holy Spirit who is a little less powerful. Yet the same scripture 00:08:00.280 --> 00:08:04.400 that Paul uses in Philippians 2 verse 10 is the scripture that is borrowed from Isaiah 00:08:04.400 --> 00:08:10.880 45 23 where it says Yahweh is the one before whom every knee bows and every tongue confess. 00:08:10.880 --> 00:08:15.160 That he alone is God. And then it comes to Philippians 2 verse 9 and now it says Jesus 00:08:15.160 --> 00:08:20.200 is the one before whom every knee bows and every tongue confess that he alone is Lord. 00:08:20.200 --> 00:08:27.200 Whatever Yahweh is Jesus is. And he is the I am. This is why at one point during a conversation 00:08:28.040 --> 00:08:35.040 with the Pharisees he says I am before Abraham was. There was a time when they came to arrest 00:08:37.240 --> 00:08:42.800 him when he used the words they asked him are you Jesus of Nazareth and he says I am. 00:08:42.800 --> 00:08:47.160 And if you look at the scriptures 600 people were there to arrest him and all 600 fall 00:08:47.160 --> 00:08:52.600 down flat. I'm not kidding you. We don't know this. We don't see it in scriptures. But in 00:08:52.600 --> 00:08:56.560 scriptures when you read it when you go to the garden of Gethsemane and see the ones 00:08:56.560 --> 00:09:01.320 who came to arrest him you'll see mentioned there that there were about 600 of them and 00:09:01.320 --> 00:09:06.720 they come and ask him are you Jesus of Nazareth and he says I am and the next verse says 600 00:09:06.720 --> 00:09:13.720 of them fell down flat. We don't realize the power in this name. All that Yahweh was he 00:09:15.360 --> 00:09:22.360 is. He is the I am. The I am-ness of him doesn't go away because he comes in flesh. This is 00:09:26.560 --> 00:09:33.280 why Paul insisted on saying we no longer know him after the flesh. We don't know Jesus 00:09:33.280 --> 00:09:38.800 of Nazareth. We only know Jesus the Christ. Christ was not his name. Christ was a title. 00:09:38.800 --> 00:09:45.800 Jesus was his name and there were thousands of Jesuses those days. So the power in the 00:09:46.520 --> 00:09:51.520 name is not because of the name itself. The power in the name is because of who he is 00:09:51.760 --> 00:09:58.760 and he is Yahweh. It matters your triune God theology but please understand that Isaiah 00:10:03.760 --> 00:10:10.760 45 23 is what's taken and spoken of in Philippians 2 9. Any questions on that before we move 00:10:10.760 --> 00:10:17.760 on? I mean he was very deliberately given the name of Jesus of Nazareth. He was given 00:10:21.520 --> 00:10:27.200 the name Jesus. In Matthew 1 21 they say name him. I mean the angel says name him Jesus. 00:10:27.200 --> 00:10:32.440 Why? Because he will save people from sin. Name him Immanuel. Why? Because he is God 00:10:32.440 --> 00:10:39.160 with us. These names were deliberately given and the name Jesus in itself does not have 00:10:39.160 --> 00:10:44.920 any power but because of who he is therefore now power is released when we speak his name 00:10:44.920 --> 00:10:49.240 because we don't realize that every time we invoke his name we are bringing into a place 00:10:49.320 --> 00:10:55.960 the same power that existed from everlasting will be to everlasting. The name Yahweh himself 00:10:55.960 --> 00:11:02.960 is present. Any questions? Any challenges to that? Whatever was true of the name Yahweh 00:11:08.480 --> 00:11:15.480 is now true of the name Jesus. We don't expect him to open the Red Sea. We don't expect him 00:11:20.240 --> 00:11:27.240 to turn up on a mountain with fire. We don't expect him to provide bread for 40 years. 00:11:29.160 --> 00:11:36.480 We don't expect Shekinah to clouds. He seems to be a different God removed from us but 00:11:36.480 --> 00:11:43.480 he is present here hungering for a people who can receive him as who he is. Hey I need 00:11:44.160 --> 00:11:51.160 more volume James. Even if I shout don't turn it down. I never shout. So guys here's an 00:11:53.720 --> 00:12:00.320 important principle. In the capacity that you receive someone to that extent you will 00:12:00.320 --> 00:12:06.160 receive from the person. In the capacity, in the ability to receive someone, how you 00:12:06.160 --> 00:12:12.240 receive someone is what you get out of them. How you receive someone is what you get out 00:12:12.240 --> 00:12:19.240 of them. So it doesn't matter whether it's Elijah who turns up at a widow's house who 00:12:20.640 --> 00:12:24.400 has a little bit of cake and a little bit of oil. It doesn't matter whether it's the 00:12:24.400 --> 00:12:30.240 other woman who builds an upper room for him. How you receive someone is what you will be 00:12:30.240 --> 00:12:35.160 able to get from them. I'm talking about all the good things. And if you receive someone 00:12:35.160 --> 00:12:42.160 evil you can get all the bad things too. How you receive them is what you get. So very 00:12:42.240 --> 00:12:47.280 often a person with everything you need can be present in a place but you're not able 00:12:47.280 --> 00:12:53.080 to access it because the way you receive him or her is not the way that will help you access 00:12:53.080 --> 00:13:00.080 what you need. Case in point was Israel. Jesus came to Jerusalem. Jesus came to his own people. 00:13:02.040 --> 00:13:08.260 Why couldn't they receive everything in him? Why couldn't Capernaum receive everything 00:13:08.260 --> 00:13:15.260 in him? Very simple. They saw a package that they did not like. They saw a carpenter. They 00:13:15.260 --> 00:13:22.100 did not see a king. Sometimes style, personality, grades. We should try our best not to have 00:13:22.100 --> 00:13:29.100 our personalities great but try to look beyond the personality to see if you can access what 00:13:29.460 --> 00:13:34.620 you need in your present moment from a person who is present sent by God because he has 00:13:34.620 --> 00:13:39.500 the key to your life and God will not give it to you any other way but till I humble 00:13:39.500 --> 00:13:44.500 myself and receive it from someone that I don't particularly like or that I don't particularly 00:13:44.500 --> 00:13:49.120 want to get along with or that doesn't drink coffee. It doesn't matter. Those are the kind 00:13:49.120 --> 00:13:53.980 of people that God will send your way so that you can receive from them the key to open 00:13:53.980 --> 00:14:00.980 the door that you have been knocking at for ages. And if you receive it from someone who 00:14:04.620 --> 00:14:11.620 is a good person, you will receive it from God. So, that's the key to your life. 00:14:11.620 --> 00:14:18.620 Any questions on that one? Okay. Very often when I'm looking for an answer, I look to 00:14:19.500 --> 00:14:26.500 people that I admire or look up to or that have prophesied over my life or have answers 00:14:26.580 --> 00:14:30.620 for me. Very often when I look to them, I don't get what I need. I get good words but 00:14:30.620 --> 00:14:35.860 I don't get what I need. And then along will come someone who is a blooming novice who 00:14:35.860 --> 00:14:41.820 I wouldn't put on stage or stuff like that but God will deliberately bring me to a place 00:14:41.820 --> 00:14:45.900 where I'm able to now receive from them so that I get what I need. He does this again 00:14:45.900 --> 00:14:51.540 and again. The reason he fed Israel manna in the desert for 40 years was very simple. 00:14:51.540 --> 00:14:56.040 Can I humble you so that you depend on me? Can I humble you so that you can depend on 00:14:56.040 --> 00:15:03.040 me? Sometimes God will send people who do not display the fruit of the Spirit to give 00:15:09.120 --> 00:15:16.120 you a key that you can take. Yeah. Cyrus, Nebuchadnezzar, kings that had, who were completely pagan, 00:15:17.000 --> 00:15:24.000 God send them to rescue people. Can you say that louder? Between? Yeah. The intent here 00:15:24.000 --> 00:15:31.000 is not whether we recognize or not. The intent is the condition of the heart. Once I have 00:15:44.520 --> 00:15:47.520 the condition of the heart, discernment is secondary. The condition of the heart is secondary. 00:15:47.520 --> 00:15:54.520 Humility is what causes things to be drawn to me. Grace and power will always flow into 00:16:00.000 --> 00:16:07.000 any depression like water but is the condition of the heart. So we end up, I'm not reacting 00:16:07.560 --> 00:16:13.360 to your question but I'm saying in general, we end up wanting to discern who is of God 00:16:13.360 --> 00:16:18.600 and God is saying, hey, can you humble your heart so that you will immediately recognize 00:16:18.600 --> 00:16:25.600 grace when it flows to you, wherever it comes from. He depended 00:16:54.920 --> 00:17:01.160 on women to supply his needs. He's a Jewish man. In Luke chapter 8, he's depending on 00:17:01.160 --> 00:17:07.360 women to supply his needs. It's not done, man. You used to pray if you were a Jewish 00:17:07.360 --> 00:17:14.360 man saying, I thank you Lord for making me a man and not making me a woman. It was a 00:17:14.480 --> 00:17:21.480 recognized prayer and here is a man who then depends on women to take care of him, to supply 00:17:23.160 --> 00:17:30.160 his needs. Go ahead, Anna. 00:17:37.360 --> 00:17:44.360 Yeah, so people associate with wicked people and if you embrace a wicked person, you can 00:17:46.640 --> 00:17:53.640 get every wickedness that the person has. The same way when you're... pardon? Yeah, 00:17:53.640 --> 00:17:58.840 who have got nothing. I mean, I'm just giving you the opposite side. So when it comes to 00:17:58.840 --> 00:18:05.840 the name, guys, know this that I can access Christ to the extent that I receive him as 00:18:06.320 --> 00:18:11.720 who he is. And if there is any area in your life that fights against anything that Yahweh 00:18:11.720 --> 00:18:18.400 is, you will not receive it. He will not force his way. So is Yahweh joy? No, I'm not the 00:18:18.400 --> 00:18:23.840 joyful kind. I'm the kind that is subdued and I want to... Then you will not receive 00:18:23.840 --> 00:18:27.720 the joy that he wants to give. Occasionally, there'll be a sprinkle, but you will not receive 00:18:27.720 --> 00:18:34.720 it. Healing? No, healing is not my thing. God uses sickness to teach us lessons. Well then, 00:18:35.600 --> 00:18:42.600 happy sickness day to you. Or... It depends. Any aspect of Yahweh that you do not want 00:18:45.880 --> 00:18:52.880 to receive will not be something you can access. Whatever you despise, you will not possess. 00:18:52.880 --> 00:18:59.880 Whatever you despise, you will not possess. Despise people prospering? You hear me clearly 00:18:59.880 --> 00:19:06.880 because we Christians have the tendency. We don't mind us prospering, but when Dilna 00:19:09.000 --> 00:19:16.000 begins to prosper, it's like, hmm, wonder how he got that money. Tell us anyways, Dilna, 00:19:16.800 --> 00:19:23.800 when you have time. But what you despise, you do not possess. You will not possess. 00:19:24.600 --> 00:19:31.600 You will not possess. No, Matt is sitting at the top of the steps in lotus 00:20:47.480 --> 00:20:52.000 position and he's clapping his hands saying, come up Shiloh, come up Shiloh. Until Shiloh 00:20:52.000 --> 00:20:56.240 breaks through, he doesn't move. But once Shiloh breaks through, he picks him up and 00:20:56.240 --> 00:21:02.040 holds him up like Lion King saying, here's my champion. That's how God wants us to do 00:21:02.040 --> 00:21:07.000 it. Break out of your mindset, Jacob. Access who I am because let me tell you who I am. 00:21:08.000 --> 00:21:14.160 The essence of me is I am not becoming, I'm not changing. I'm absolutely I am. I have 00:21:14.160 --> 00:21:20.600 no beginning, I have no end. In me, you have all the sufficiency you have hungered for. 00:21:20.600 --> 00:21:24.760 You have all the freedom you've hungered for. You've all the laughter and the joy you've 00:21:24.760 --> 00:21:29.780 hungered for. You have all the breaking free that you hungered for. We're looking at the name and then we'll talk about how 00:22:09.040 --> 00:22:17.200 to use the power in that name. Philippians 2.9, God has highly exalted him. So God has 00:22:17.200 --> 00:22:30.200 highly exalted him. What did he do when he highly exalted him? He gave him a name. What 00:22:30.200 --> 00:22:47.200 name that is above every other? Every other where? In heaven, on earth, under the earth. 00:22:47.700 --> 00:23:06.200 Why? So that every knee may bow. Crazy, eh? Notice that every time you increase, your 00:23:06.200 --> 00:23:11.200 name will begin to carry greater authority spiritually. Every time you increase, every 00:23:12.200 --> 00:23:17.200 time a believer increases, what do you mean increases? Every time a believer increases, 00:23:17.200 --> 00:23:22.200 how do you increase? You increase through obedience. Every time a believer increases 00:23:22.200 --> 00:23:28.200 through obedience, your name begins to carry more authority in the spirit realm than you 00:23:28.200 --> 00:23:46.200 can imagine. Just think of that for a second, eh? Every time, every time you increase spiritually, 00:23:46.200 --> 00:23:57.200 and how does spiritual increase happen? Through obedience. What happens? Your name carries 00:23:57.200 --> 00:24:12.200 greater authority in the spirit realm. Now you can see why the demon said of Paul, Jesus 00:24:12.200 --> 00:24:21.200 I know, Paul I know. So every time there's an increase in you spiritually, an increase, 00:24:21.200 --> 00:24:25.200 spiritual increase comes through obedience. Obedience in whatever God is asking you to 00:24:25.200 --> 00:24:32.200 do. Obedience to the word. Obedience in the simple things. Immediately, your name begins 00:24:34.200 --> 00:24:40.200 to carry more weight. Spiritually, you suddenly have more authority, more influence, more 00:24:40.200 --> 00:24:47.200 exerting of power. And when this is in present, then, I mean the centurion said it so well, 00:24:48.200 --> 00:24:52.200 I'm under authority, so I know that when I exert authority, people will listen to me. 00:24:52.200 --> 00:25:03.200 What's he saying? Because I obey. When I command, people will obey. And the word bow, when we 00:25:03.200 --> 00:25:14.200 say every knee shall bow, what is God trying to say? What he means is to bow is to surrender 00:25:14.200 --> 00:25:27.200 to authority. To bow is to surrender to authority. Or face penalty. In other words, noncompliance 00:25:27.200 --> 00:25:44.200 will be met by force. To bow is to surrender to authority. Guys, imagine a day like this, 00:25:44.200 --> 00:25:53.200 eh? Where you are able to exert on his behalf as a legal representative here on earth, this 00:25:54.200 --> 00:25:58.200 kind of authority. Where there are powers that are boring people. Where there are powers 00:25:58.200 --> 00:26:01.200 that are affecting a nation. Through the night they walk up. 00:37:03.640 --> 00:37:07.640 24 hours later they come back as dusk settles over the village. 00:37:07.640 --> 00:37:14.640 And as they come back, this guy who told the story, who was there, his name's Tom Hamlin, 00:37:14.640 --> 00:37:18.640 he tells the story and he says as they're coming back, they all are repeating one word. 00:37:18.640 --> 00:37:25.640 They don't know a word of English, but they keep saying, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. 00:37:25.640 --> 00:37:30.640 Nobody knows what happened on top of the hill. And they come back repeating this name. 00:37:30.640 --> 00:37:35.640 And village after village gets healed from that alcoholism. 00:37:35.640 --> 00:37:40.640 And village after village begins to turn to Christ. 00:37:40.640 --> 00:37:47.640 So much so that in the middle of Borneo, in that area, you will find so many Presbyterian and Methodist churches 00:37:47.640 --> 00:37:54.640 that will blow your mind. You think to yourself, how in the world, in a strong Muslim environment 00:37:54.640 --> 00:37:58.640 could so many Christian churches flourish? Why? 00:37:58.640 --> 00:38:02.640 Because on top of a hill they found something and they came back repeating the name of Jesus. 00:38:02.640 --> 00:38:05.640 And it begins to spread like wildfire. 00:38:05.640 --> 00:38:10.640 And it just so happens that one day I'm in that church. 00:38:10.640 --> 00:38:15.640 And I go and ask someone, Tom Hamlin, have you ever been to this church? 00:38:15.640 --> 00:38:18.640 Because I know I've never been there, but I know I've been there. Your experience doesn't matter. 00:40:19.640 --> 00:40:23.640 Your biblical knowledge doesn't matter. Your conduct that day doesn't matter. 00:40:23.640 --> 00:40:27.640 Your fasting doesn't matter. Your good conduct doesn't matter. 00:40:27.640 --> 00:40:30.640 Your having cast out a million demons before doesn't matter. 00:40:30.640 --> 00:40:39.640 All you have is the bankruptcy of your name and the splendid plenty of this one name called Christ. 00:40:39.640 --> 00:40:45.640 It's like a bride who comes out of poverty. And the husband brings her. 00:40:45.640 --> 00:40:48.640 And he says from now on you carry my name. 00:40:48.640 --> 00:40:54.640 And she thinks to herself, I got nothing but I got everything and I've got a name. 00:40:54.640 --> 00:41:07.640 You'll be surprised at how often we use the name of Jesus Christ as a postscript after everything we have done. 00:41:07.640 --> 00:41:11.640 When he actually says, I'm Alpha and Omega and everything in between. 00:41:11.640 --> 00:41:14.640 Where in the world do I squeeze myself in, man? 00:41:19.640 --> 00:41:22.640 First admit the bankruptcy of your name. 00:41:26.640 --> 00:41:33.640 And then so helplessly depend on everything that that name can rot. 00:41:37.640 --> 00:41:40.640 Any questions on that?
