So Father, as we sit here right 00:00:40.240 --> 00:00:48.640 now, we just want to give our lives to your leading and your guidance so that we can walk 00:00:48.640 --> 00:00:55.520 into the fullness of what you have, Jesus. I want this for myself. I pray this for each 00:00:55.520 --> 00:01:04.160 one of us that if your Spirit is leading us in a direction, then we want to be all in. 00:01:04.160 --> 00:01:12.320 We want to go that way that you have set and you are setting before us. So we give to you 00:01:12.480 --> 00:01:22.720 our minds, we give to you our bodies, we give to you all of ourselves. Jesus, do you not deserve 00:01:22.720 --> 00:01:30.880 it? You absolutely do. And so here is a desire in our hearts from us to you so that we 00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:48.320 can give more of us to you. We genuinely want this Abba. Okay. 00:02:28.800 --> 00:02:37.360 All right. I want to title the message today. My father's business. 00:02:40.320 --> 00:02:47.440 My father's business. And Jelena has given me until six. So like it or not, until six we go. 00:02:50.080 --> 00:02:58.080 We are partners in God's mission. So the triune God, the father, the son, 00:02:58.080 --> 00:03:04.240 the Holy Spirit, the triune God has a mission and that mission has existed forever. 00:03:05.920 --> 00:03:10.480 And he so chooses that we become partners in his mission. 00:03:12.400 --> 00:03:18.880 So the father's mission is that the father will draw his sons, his daughters back to him. 00:03:18.880 --> 00:03:27.200 That's his mission. He's a father and he says, my children, they may be lost. They may be 00:03:27.760 --> 00:03:35.200 away, but I will make sure that they come back to me. That's his mission. That's his breath. 00:03:35.200 --> 00:03:41.600 That's his heartbeat. And the son is in partnership with the father in that mission. 00:03:42.880 --> 00:03:49.920 And the Holy Spirit is in partnership with the father and the son in that very same mission. 00:03:49.920 --> 00:04:01.120 And we get to partner with God, the father, God, the son, God, the Holy Spirit in this exact same 00:04:01.120 --> 00:04:08.320 mission. This mission to find, as Jacob was saying last week and for the few weeks before that, 00:04:08.320 --> 00:04:16.880 to go find the lost, to seek out the lost, to find them and to then bring them to the father. 00:04:17.840 --> 00:04:26.160 So I want to talk about a few things and we'll go as far as we can with until six o'clock. 00:04:26.160 --> 00:04:32.880 But I want us to first read a couple of verses with me. Number one, Luke chapter 15. 00:04:35.280 --> 00:04:41.600 Luke chapter 15, verses one onwards. I'll wait for you to get there because we'll start 00:04:42.800 --> 00:04:44.320 with those first two passages. 00:04:47.520 --> 00:04:57.280 Luke chapter 15. You know the story, but we'll just browse through those two stories. One, 00:04:59.040 --> 00:05:10.000 a man who is a shepherd and if he loses one of the hundred sheep he has, Jesus asks, 00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:16.400 and here is the question, what man of you having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, 00:05:16.400 --> 00:05:21.280 does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the one that is lost 00:05:21.280 --> 00:05:31.200 until he finds it? I want you to underline the two words, what man. What man? And then you see, 00:05:31.200 --> 00:05:39.040 a few verses down, here is another question Jesus is asking, or what woman having ten silver coins, 00:05:39.040 --> 00:05:45.920 if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until 00:05:45.920 --> 00:05:58.320 she finds it? What man? What woman? Doesn't go searching. And then Jesus begins telling the 00:05:58.320 --> 00:06:06.080 story of the prodigal son. All of us know the story. But what Jesus is really trying to tell 00:06:06.080 --> 00:06:13.040 in that story, if I were to summarize it in one sentence or question, is something like this. 00:06:13.840 --> 00:06:24.160 What son, when he knows that his father has lost a son, will not go looking for the lost son? 00:06:25.840 --> 00:06:32.240 What woman? What man? And then the third question, it's not written out like that, 00:06:32.240 --> 00:06:40.080 but that's what Jesus is really asking. If you're my son, what son will not go out, 00:06:40.640 --> 00:06:49.440 seek the lost, find them and bring them to me? And the thing is, it's such a privilege for us 00:06:49.440 --> 00:06:56.880 to do this. Who are we? Who are we that we can even think about doing this? But this is how he 00:06:56.880 --> 00:07:04.960 has set it up that we be partners with him in his mission. And one of the beautiful things 00:07:05.280 --> 00:07:13.360 things about where we are at in terms of our journey at Acts 29 is that if you ask most people 00:07:13.360 --> 00:07:20.160 here who have been around for more than two years and ask them, what is one strength of Acts 29, 00:07:20.160 --> 00:07:28.080 there will be a resounding answer. One would be sonship. That we've been taught sonship. 00:07:28.880 --> 00:07:34.400 That we've been taught that we are sons and daughters of this father. That we've been 00:07:34.400 --> 00:07:43.760 taught to relate to him as children. And we do. And that being a strength that God has given Acts 29, 00:07:43.760 --> 00:07:51.440 now when God says, I've got a place that I've set apart for you. I want you to partner with me 00:07:51.520 --> 00:07:58.000 in the work in Richmond. Then the real question becomes, hey Derek, I just want you to know 00:07:59.040 --> 00:08:09.920 what son Derek will not partner with his dad when another one of my sons is lost. Another bunch of 00:08:09.920 --> 00:08:18.960 them is lost. And so sonship doesn't end with me appropriating everything God has for me. 00:08:19.600 --> 00:08:28.560 Sonship does not end with me seeing God as my father. Sonship does not end with me believing 00:08:28.560 --> 00:08:34.800 that his nature is that of a father. Sonship now moves. It takes on new legs and it moves to a new 00:08:34.800 --> 00:08:43.280 place. Whereas I know my father. I know how much he loves his children. And because I love my father, 00:08:43.280 --> 00:08:50.560 I love them too. And so everything we are going to talk about, think of it in the context of 00:08:50.560 --> 00:08:56.640 Richmond. So think of all of these things as I talk through this. 00:09:02.960 --> 00:09:09.040 Richmond, God is inviting us. There is a purpose and the purpose has been made very clear. Matthew 00:09:09.120 --> 00:09:16.400 28, go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them 00:09:17.040 --> 00:09:23.360 to obey everything I've commanded you. And so the question is, where do I go? The answer is very, 00:09:23.360 --> 00:09:29.600 very clear. Go on to all nations. But Jesus, where do I start? Well, Acts 29, I've got a place for 00:09:29.600 --> 00:09:37.760 you to start. Richmond, start in Richmond, then move on to BC. You then go to Canada, the ends of 00:09:37.760 --> 00:09:45.120 Canada, and then you go to the end of the earth. But start for me in Richmond. Go therefore and 00:09:45.120 --> 00:09:52.160 make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, teaching them. Okay, Jesus, I'll do that. When do 00:09:52.160 --> 00:09:58.800 I do that? Now, right now. This is what the disciples heard. They heard that and they 00:09:58.800 --> 00:10:04.880 immediately went on. As soon as Jesus ascended, they had to wait for a bit until the Holy Spirit 00:10:04.880 --> 00:10:12.320 was released upon them, given to them as a gift, and then they went. And for us, we've already been 00:10:12.320 --> 00:10:19.840 given the gift of the Spirit of God. You and I are filled with Him, full of Him. His presence is with 00:10:19.840 --> 00:10:26.960 us. As Jane was singing earlier, presence is meant to go. Presence is meant to not have us just stay 00:10:26.960 --> 00:10:33.920 in our little huddle. It is meant to lead us out into the places God has for us. 00:10:34.880 --> 00:10:42.640 You're tracking with me? Yeah? Good. So there is no mission without going. There is no mission 00:10:42.640 --> 00:10:49.920 without going. One other thing before we continue on. See, when you, in the context of Richmond, 00:10:49.920 --> 00:10:55.840 too, this is true. Matthew chapter 28, the verse 19, is it? Or whatever verse that is that I read out, 00:10:56.560 --> 00:11:05.920 the first part of it is evangelism. Going and sharing who Jesus is with people. The second 00:11:05.920 --> 00:11:12.400 part of it is discipleship. Make disciples of all nations. And so even in the context of Richmond, 00:11:12.400 --> 00:11:18.160 even though currently we are talking primarily about going and reaching, even though the last 00:11:18.160 --> 00:11:25.040 few weeks have been about seeking out and finding, never for a second discount, that there is an 00:11:25.040 --> 00:11:33.840 equally important part, which is discipleship. Anytime we find his sons, anytime we find his 00:11:33.840 --> 00:11:41.040 daughters, our duty, our responsibility, our ownership, our partnership with the father does 00:11:41.040 --> 00:11:48.640 not end with just the message. It proceeds to this next place, which is Abba. Now that we have found 00:11:48.640 --> 00:11:54.240 them, where will they be disciple? So there are two parts to this, but we'll keep going on the 00:11:54.240 --> 00:11:59.280 first part, which is just the going. But never discount the second part, which is equally important 00:11:59.280 --> 00:12:05.440 because one does not benefit, one alone does not benefit the person. You've got to find them, 00:12:05.440 --> 00:12:10.160 but you've also got to disciple them. Both need to exist at the same time. 00:12:11.680 --> 00:12:18.000 So that's Matthew chapter 4, sorry, that was Matthew chapter 28. Go with me to Matthew chapter 4, 00:12:18.000 --> 00:12:23.440 verse 19. Matthew chapter 4, verse 19. 00:12:29.200 --> 00:12:34.000 And he said to them, follow me and I will make you fishers of men. 00:12:35.360 --> 00:12:43.520 And he said to them, follow me and I will make you fishers of men. This is Peter or Simon and this is 00:12:44.480 --> 00:12:51.440 Andrew. Jesus has been watching them. They've been fishing. Jesus then finds them and he says, 00:12:51.440 --> 00:12:55.840 hey, I want you to follow me because I'm going to make you. You've been fishing, 00:12:57.760 --> 00:13:04.080 you've been catching fish, but I'm going to have you now catch men. You're going to be fishers of 00:13:04.080 --> 00:13:11.360 men. So we all are fishers of men. And if we are fishers of men, there are certain characteristics 00:13:11.360 --> 00:13:17.440 that are associated with a fisherman. And what are those things? Let's have a quick look at it. 00:13:18.400 --> 00:13:26.880 Number one, a fisherman is used to different types of fishing. 00:13:28.400 --> 00:13:35.200 So he may use the net, he may use the line and hook. There are different types of nets he may use. 00:13:35.200 --> 00:13:39.280 He can use, I looked this up, I have no idea what a fisherman does, I'll tell you that. 00:13:39.920 --> 00:13:47.600 So I had to learn this. So there is a drag net, that's the one they use between the boats and 00:13:54.960 --> 00:14:02.160 they cast it and then they pull the fish into the shore. Or it could be a cast net, which is what we 00:14:02.160 --> 00:14:07.360 see on TV or I've seen on TV mostly, which is usually cast it out on the water and it catches 00:14:07.360 --> 00:14:16.240 the fish, you pull it. But the point being, if I am a skilled fisherman, I'm well versed with 00:14:16.240 --> 00:14:24.640 different ways of fishing. I'm not just doing one, I'm not just an expert in this and I won't stop 00:14:24.640 --> 00:14:31.280 there. God expects us to learn different ways to fish men. We'll touch on what those different ways 00:14:31.280 --> 00:14:37.120 are. Because our God is a wise God, he also knows the type of fish. Because he knows the type of 00:14:37.120 --> 00:14:42.480 fish and because you are the one he is sending to catch the fish, he then makes sure that you 00:14:42.480 --> 00:14:49.200 use the right tools and you go through the right training to catch the fish that's meant for you 00:14:49.200 --> 00:14:56.080 to catch. And so there is a process here whereby he gives you certain things. He equips you a certain 00:14:56.080 --> 00:15:01.600 way, he gives you the right type of net in your hand and then he sends you to a particular place 00:15:01.680 --> 00:15:07.120 and then he says you cast your net here or you use the line and hook here and I'll make sure the 00:15:07.840 --> 00:15:14.720 fish is caught. Yeah. So before we get into that, a couple of things. So how did Jesus and the 00:15:14.720 --> 00:15:22.160 apostles do this? How did Jesus and the apostles go about seeking, finding and transforming the 00:15:22.160 --> 00:15:29.840 lives of people who they met? Number one, so important. Jesus's mission was fueled by his 00:15:29.840 --> 00:15:40.560 love for people. Jesus's mission was fueled by his love for people and this thing alone, 00:15:40.560 --> 00:15:48.160 if we truly get it, almost everything else become easy. Just this one thing. 00:15:49.520 --> 00:15:54.240 If we can get this part right, everything else becomes way more easier. 00:15:54.880 --> 00:16:03.120 Jesus's mission is fueled by his love for people. So in other words, the mission did not come first. 00:16:03.680 --> 00:16:12.240 Love came first. Yeah. Mission did not come first. Love came first. In other words, he created me 00:16:12.240 --> 00:16:18.640 in love. He created you in love. He created that guy who's driving that car away. He created 00:16:19.040 --> 00:16:28.320 that guy who's driving that car away. He created him and them in love. Love came first and then 00:16:28.320 --> 00:16:35.680 came mission. But we can be very Christian-ese and we can be all about mission. It's so easy to 00:16:35.680 --> 00:16:42.560 share the gospel with someone without any love. How do I know I've done it? Very easy. 00:16:43.600 --> 00:16:48.480 You can share the gospel with someone. Hey, hip, just want you to know God really loves you. 00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:55.920 I can go through that. But am I doing it because I know the message and I can distribute that 00:16:55.920 --> 00:17:05.520 message? Or am I doing it because I can because I love hip? This one thing, guys, if you understand 00:17:05.520 --> 00:17:16.000 this, this will take us to deeper places in Richmond. Before love came, before mission came, 00:17:16.720 --> 00:17:26.800 love came. Mission exists. But before mission existed, existed love. And so the question is, 00:17:26.800 --> 00:17:36.000 Derek, can I have you love my people? And once you love them so much, then everything makes sense. 00:17:36.000 --> 00:17:41.440 Then you share the gospel. Then you go and pray for the sick because you can be doing all of these 00:17:41.520 --> 00:17:47.120 things for many different reasons. Many have gone through this path, guys. Many people have done 00:17:47.120 --> 00:17:51.680 many things in the name of God, in the name of Christ. They've said the right words. They've 00:17:53.120 --> 00:18:00.800 acted the best lines. But love was not there. And when you don't have love and you do these things, 00:18:01.840 --> 00:18:09.120 you're building on flesh and it doesn't stand the test of fire. But when you do this out of love, 00:18:09.920 --> 00:18:13.600 when you do this because you truly care, because you've understood that 00:18:14.880 --> 00:18:21.840 my father loves his sons and his daughters, I may not feel like it right now. I may not feel like, 00:18:21.840 --> 00:18:29.600 oh, I know exactly how much God loves Vedisha. But can I start from a place where I want to 00:18:29.600 --> 00:18:37.680 understand that more? Where I want to, I want his heart to drive me to places. I want his heart to 00:18:37.680 --> 00:18:43.360 lead me to places. And what I speak, it's not about the words I speak. It's actually about 00:18:43.360 --> 00:18:50.800 the heart from which it's coming. Trust me, if he can have a donkey speak, he can get this work done 00:18:51.520 --> 00:18:58.640 very easily. But if I can get my heart right, if I can understand why he's asking me to do 00:18:58.640 --> 00:19:04.000 what he's asking me to, then now there is something. In other words, let me put it this way, 00:19:04.560 --> 00:19:11.040 the message of Christ, the good news of Christ must be enveloped in a heart full of love. 00:19:12.480 --> 00:19:18.640 The message of Christ, the good news of Jesus Christ, you have to envelop it. You have to 00:19:19.360 --> 00:19:25.920 cover it with your heart, which has love. Now here's the truth, because let's go practical. 00:19:26.880 --> 00:19:32.320 Hey Prosper, thanks for coming late. Here's the thing, right? 00:19:35.760 --> 00:19:43.840 I can't expect to have the same love Jesus has for Aaron today. I wish I could tell you that's 00:19:43.840 --> 00:19:53.200 the truth. It's simply not the truth. But can I start from a place where I want more? Can I start 00:19:53.200 --> 00:20:00.640 from a place where I recognize that my love is not enough, but you say love Aaron more, and I want 00:20:00.640 --> 00:20:08.160 to go on this journey and I want to do it? Start there. See, sincerity is something God values. 00:20:08.720 --> 00:20:14.880 When you're truthful with him, you're really emptying yourself so that you can receive more. 00:20:16.560 --> 00:20:21.920 And then he gives you more of his love. And then now you have something as you go talk with Aaron, 00:20:21.920 --> 00:20:26.400 you have something to give him that's more than just words. Now some of you, you can think about 00:20:26.400 --> 00:20:32.960 it because I've done this plenty of times. I know you can speak the good news, share the good news 00:20:32.960 --> 00:20:41.760 with people without love. It's true. Because you're not doing it for the wrong reasons, 00:20:42.880 --> 00:20:45.120 but you can be very artificial about it. 00:20:52.560 --> 00:21:01.920 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John chapter 00:21:01.920 --> 00:21:10.560 15, verse 13. Jesus's standard is that, that he loves so much so that he dies. I was talking, 00:21:10.560 --> 00:21:14.160 Iris and I were talking with Tuni and Anile. They're not here. You should ask why. 00:21:14.160 --> 00:21:26.320 They're vacationing. They're at some other camp or whatever. I don't know. You go ask them. 00:21:28.320 --> 00:21:37.360 But they're having fun apparently. Greater love has no one. There's no greater love than 00:21:38.160 --> 00:21:44.400 if, than one dying for his friend. And Jesus loved with this love. The question that we were 00:21:44.400 --> 00:21:51.600 asking each other then is, man, can we die for someone? The answer is for me very clear. It's 00:21:51.600 --> 00:21:58.800 very difficult for me to die for someone else. But that's the standard that my Lord has set for me. 00:21:59.360 --> 00:22:05.600 The question then becomes, can you get to that place? The answer is absolutely. Absolutely. 00:22:06.240 --> 00:22:12.560 Every one of us. And there are men and women guys all around the world who get to this point. 00:22:14.000 --> 00:22:22.320 There are. Now how do they get there? Number one. See, there's a verse that, don't read this 00:22:22.320 --> 00:22:30.160 because we had, I'll run through this. John chapter 19, verses 16 and 17. John chapter 19, 00:22:30.160 --> 00:22:37.040 verses 16 and 17. So they took Jesus and he went out bearing his own cross to the place called the 00:22:37.040 --> 00:22:43.680 place of his call Golgotha, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. Right? So they took Jesus 00:22:43.680 --> 00:22:50.560 and he went up with the cross on his shoulder. And what did you think about this? Did Jesus at 00:22:50.560 --> 00:22:58.480 12 years old, would have, would he have been able to do that? The father had to have him go through 00:22:58.480 --> 00:23:06.640 a process because it wasn't about just dying guys. It wasn't just about dying. It was also about 00:23:06.640 --> 00:23:14.880 carrying the weight of sin. Not just my sins and your sins, everyone's sins. It wasn't even just 00:23:14.880 --> 00:23:22.720 that. It was also that he had to forgive those who were abusing him, those who were beating him up. 00:23:22.720 --> 00:23:30.080 So it wasn't just about dying. Yes, it included death and resurrection, but it included so much, 00:23:30.080 --> 00:23:37.200 so much more. And so the father had to take Jesus through a process so that at this point in his, 00:23:37.200 --> 00:23:43.280 in his time in God's divine, in the father's divine time and, and, and, and, and the way the 00:23:43.280 --> 00:23:50.960 father led Christ, he was ready to go up that mountain, to die on that cross on that day. 00:23:51.760 --> 00:24:01.440 He was ready. Well, let me put it this way. Before he put his life down, Jesus started putting other 00:24:01.440 --> 00:24:09.440 things down. There was another day, years before he would walk up another mountain. And as he walked 00:24:09.440 --> 00:24:18.000 up that mountain, he let his desires, flesh and its desires, he laid it down. Jesus was as much a man 00:24:18.080 --> 00:24:29.280 as you and I are. He went up another mountain and he decided that, Hey, father, what you want, 00:24:29.280 --> 00:24:37.200 I want. Take my things away. Give me more. Give me, give me your heart. He did that. He talked like 00:24:37.200 --> 00:24:46.800 that because it wasn't automatic. While he was fully God, he had to learn the father had him 00:24:46.800 --> 00:24:50.640 go through a process so that he would mature into true sonship. 00:24:52.560 --> 00:24:59.040 So before Jesus died on that mountain, on that hill, he went up. In other words, all I'm saying 00:24:59.040 --> 00:25:07.440 is every day was a process by which Jesus decided that I am going to die to myself. 00:25:08.400 --> 00:25:11.840 You can't give your life up if you haven't died many other deaths. 00:25:11.840 --> 00:25:19.200 It's not happening. If you have died many other deaths, meaning you've died to Netflix, 00:25:20.160 --> 00:25:29.120 you've died to TV, you've died to Instagram, you've died to food, you've died to all these 00:25:29.120 --> 00:25:36.480 other things, not bad things, but you've got to die to them. You've died to these different things 00:25:36.560 --> 00:25:43.440 and they're different for different people. And as you die, now you're being ready to die more 00:25:43.440 --> 00:25:49.200 for him. As Paul said, this is the best thing that can happen to us, us dying to ourselves 00:25:50.560 --> 00:25:58.080 because we get more of him as we die to ourselves. And if a man does or a woman does not go through 00:25:58.080 --> 00:26:05.120 that process, there is no way they can be on that cross. And if you die, you die. 00:26:06.640 --> 00:26:12.080 And Jesus hung on that cross because he had died many deaths before he got there. 00:26:14.000 --> 00:26:20.400 And you and I cannot love anyone to the point of death, which is Jesus's standard, 00:26:20.400 --> 00:26:27.840 unless we die many other deaths. And so while I am honest about where I'm at, 00:26:27.840 --> 00:26:35.040 I find it very difficult to die for me. She was just looking at me like that. 00:26:37.120 --> 00:26:48.080 I find it difficult. I can get there. It is possible for me to do that. If I go through 00:26:48.080 --> 00:26:57.120 the process my father has absolutely possible guys. Jesus was on the potter's wheel. Jesus 00:26:57.120 --> 00:27:06.480 allowed the father to shape him, mold him. Can I and you be on that wheel every day so that, 00:27:07.280 --> 00:27:16.320 you know, five years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years later, each of us can tell another generation, 00:27:17.440 --> 00:27:24.000 I started in a very different place. I did not love people. I had no desire to do this, 00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:29.600 but then he began to change me. He began to change me more and more. And I don't know what 00:27:29.600 --> 00:27:37.120 happened.
