Matthew 1, 20 to 23. 00:00:17.440 --> 00:00:20.880 And it says in Matthew 1, 20 to 23 that 00:00:20.880 --> 00:00:31.920 But after he considered this, and this is Joseph, but after he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 00:00:31.920 --> 00:00:41.360 Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 00:00:41.360 --> 00:00:48.880 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. 00:00:49.840 --> 00:00:53.600 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet. 00:00:53.600 --> 00:01:01.440 That a virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, which means God with us. 00:01:01.440 --> 00:01:16.000 Guys, so here's the thing. In those three verses, you see the Son of God, or this little baby in the manger, 00:01:16.400 --> 00:01:24.320 before he is born, God gives him two names. So he goes tells Joseph, hey, you need to call him Jesus. 00:01:25.200 --> 00:01:34.080 And then he also says to Joseph that a thing is being fulfilled, a verse or a prophecy that was spoken ages ago. 00:01:34.960 --> 00:01:41.600 Zeya is fulfilled. And what was that prophecy? That a virgin shall give birth to a son, you shall call him Emmanuel. 00:01:41.600 --> 00:01:50.480 So there are two names here that are being and in those two names you basically have at Jesus's birth, 00:01:51.200 --> 00:01:57.440 his ministry, his life and his purpose in those two names. And what are the two names? Jesus. 00:01:57.440 --> 00:02:04.000 And what does Jesus mean? Just so nobody gets it wrong, the angel even explains what Jesus means. 00:02:04.800 --> 00:02:16.240 Jesus means he will save his people from sin. That's what the word Jesus means. 00:02:17.520 --> 00:02:26.080 He will save his people or he will save people from their sins. He will save people from sin. 00:02:26.640 --> 00:02:33.360 And what does the word Emmanuel mean? And so the names are given to him before he's born. And in these two, in these two, in these two, yeah, so in these two names, 00:02:53.520 --> 00:02:59.920 Jesus's life, ministry and purpose is defined. So what was his purpose? His purpose was I've come to 00:02:59.920 --> 00:03:07.920 save people from their sins. What was his other mission or ministry that hey, the earth and its 00:03:07.920 --> 00:03:13.920 people have lost touch with God because of their sins. I've come to save the people from sins and 00:03:13.920 --> 00:03:20.800 thereafter, I am going to be the God who dwells with them. I'm going to be a God not in heaven. 00:03:20.880 --> 00:03:28.160 God not in heaven. I'm going to be a God with you. This defines his purpose and his ministry 00:03:28.160 --> 00:03:34.400 and his life from there on. And as disciples of Jesus, our ministry and life and purpose is 00:03:34.400 --> 00:03:39.600 defined too. It's the same as the one who leads us. You can't have a ministry life and purpose 00:03:39.600 --> 00:03:46.000 that is different from the one who you belong to. Yeah, belong to. This is not some voluntary thing 00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:50.640 we are doing. The moment you ask Jesus Christ into your life, you're calling him Lord. Lord means 00:03:50.640 --> 00:03:54.880 master. And the moment you call him master, his mission, his purpose, his life becomes yours. 00:03:56.960 --> 00:04:03.680 So what is your mission, your purpose, your ministry, your life about? Bear witness, meaning here is who he is from what I know. 00:04:55.600 --> 00:05:00.400 Here is who he is from what I've experienced. Here is who he is from what I feel. Regardless of what we work at, our intent is make disciples. No, make people who are willing to pay a cost to follow him who lay down 00:05:30.720 --> 00:05:37.920 his life for you. And the third one is become a with us, God with us people. That is a strange one. 00:05:39.600 --> 00:05:45.120 You never think of church as our church. That's where God dwells with people. So 00:09:17.760 --> 00:09:23.680 Jesus so this is what it means Jesus Emmanuel God with us. So standing in the way of this happening 00:09:23.680 --> 00:09:30.160 through our lives is not your defect not your flaws not your sin not your inadequacy. It is 00:09:30.720 --> 00:09:38.160 someone else called Satan because there is an evil spirit called Satan who stands in the way of 00:09:39.520 --> 00:09:45.520 Jesus becoming Jesus through us Emmanuel becoming Emmanuel through us. What do I mean by that? Guys 00:09:46.240 --> 00:09:56.720 there's an active evil spirit called Satan who opposes prevents stops people from 00:09:57.360 --> 00:10:07.040 being saved from their sins and there is an active evil spirit called Satan who works over time to 00:10:07.040 --> 00:10:15.440 prevent people from enjoying the with us God. Remember what was the devil's first intent when 00:10:15.440 --> 00:10:22.400 Jesus was born? Can I destroy him right at birth? So he gets hered to kill all the babies that are 00:10:22.400 --> 00:10:27.120 under two years old. Why? He was hoping that Jesus could be slaughtered with them. 00:10:30.080 --> 00:10:36.320 This is an old ancient thing. This fight has been going on for thousands and thousands of years. 00:10:37.440 --> 00:10:44.800 Every time anyone rises up to save people from their sins and to present to them a God who can 00:10:44.800 --> 00:10:53.040 live with them there is an enormous ferocious adversary evil spirit called Satan who keeps 00:10:53.040 --> 00:11:01.760 coming to block because if he can prevent you from enjoying the God with us and if he can prevent you 00:11:01.760 --> 00:11:07.760 from getting out of your sin there's nothing else he needs to do and it happens again and again and 00:11:07.760 --> 00:11:14.480 again and again. In second Corinthians 4 4 it says it this way second Corinthians 4 4 it says 00:11:14.560 --> 00:11:23.040 that the God of this world as in Satan the God of this world as in the devil or Satan 00:11:23.840 --> 00:11:30.960 this is in second Corinthians 4 4 has blinded the minds of people who do not believe to keep them 00:11:30.960 --> 00:11:38.160 from seeing the light of the good news of Christ. The God of this world as in the devil has blinded 00:11:38.160 --> 00:11:47.920 the eyes of people who do not believe so that they may not get to taste and joy grasp 00:11:47.920 --> 00:11:55.040 fathom the good news that Jesus Christ came to save you from sin by dying for you. 00:11:56.080 --> 00:11:58.400 So there is a blindness that devil brings eh. 00:11:58.720 --> 00:12:06.000 There's another scripture which says that the good news of Jesus Christ is is veiled to people it's 00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:11.360 almost like there's a veil on people and they cannot see you can explain it but they cannot see 00:12:12.000 --> 00:12:16.080 because there's a veil upon them there's this picture that I found and this picture has nothing 00:12:16.080 --> 00:12:21.760 to do with any religion it's just a picture that I felt would explain it so do not look at the 00:12:21.760 --> 00:12:27.200 picture in terms of it representing any religion it just doesn't have anything to do with any 00:12:27.520 --> 00:12:32.160 religion it just so happens that it is perfect for what I'm trying to explain so go to the next 00:12:32.160 --> 00:12:39.680 picture. So there is this veil that covers people's eyes unable to see their minds dulled 00:12:39.680 --> 00:12:45.840 their eyes dulled their hearts dulled their feelings dulled to the presence of the creator 00:12:45.840 --> 00:12:50.960 of the universe thousands and thousands and thousands and the only thing they can do then 00:12:50.960 --> 00:13:00.240 is to shake their fists at this invisible creator who seems to be violent evil and yet it's because 00:13:00.240 --> 00:13:02.880 of this veil that's over their eyes that they can't see the goodness of God. 00:13:06.160 --> 00:13:13.680 The gospel is veiled in second Corinthians 4 3 it says the gospel is veiled and it causes people 00:13:13.680 --> 00:13:22.240 to perish because God in his amazing love didn't want heaven all for himself he wanted me there so 00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:28.880 he brings heaven down as the song says my sin was great his love was greater and so he comes down as 00:13:28.880 --> 00:13:35.840 a little baby lives here and dies for us why so that he could save us from sin and why so that 00:13:36.400 --> 00:13:42.320 we can enjoy God in us and with us guys just think of this say you and I have the 00:14:09.280 thousands of people who have veils upon them by the way you were one of them you were one of them 00:14:09.760 --> 00:14:14.800 there was a dullness over your eyes there was a dullness explain you didn't want it people would be able to elaborate it and you would still reject it because 00:14:26.160 --> 00:14:30.960 you didn't grasp it why because there was a veil over your eyes you 00:14:53.040 here's another scripture in acts 26 18 acts 26 18 it says and this is God speaking to Paul 00:14:53.920 --> 00:15:00.240 and God says to Paul listen Paul I am sending you look at what God was sending Paul to do 00:15:00.240 --> 00:15:06.560 I'm sending you to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light from the power of 00:15:06.560 --> 00:15:16.000 Satan to God because we have no idea how active an enemy the devil is in preventing these two names 00:15:16.000 --> 00:15:26.400 of Jesus from taking root Jesus he who saves people from their sin Emmanuel God with us 00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:35.040 an active adversary that keeps shutting down the door Jesus never came to establish Christianity 00:15:36.560 --> 00:15:43.920 that's just something that happened 00:16:21.280 Paul was told listen I'm sending you for two reasons I want you to go and open people's eyes 00:16:22.640 --> 00:16:28.480 and that's what I'm saying to you today that one of the reasons after after boxing day actually or during boxing you get the message you 00:16:40.400 --> 00:16:46.560 you're being sent out so that you can open eyes and turn people from darkness to light from the and blood but we are fighting against dark powers of 00:17:00.560 --> 00:17:06.240 the universe just imagine it God is saying all this to us so that we become aware then listen 00:17:06.240 --> 00:17:12.320 guys this church thing is not something you play on Sunday you are actually engaged in an active 00:17:12.320 --> 00:17:18.240 warfare with someone who wants to prevent your brothers your sisters your fathers your mothers 00:17:18.240 --> 00:17:24.160 your neighbors your friends from ever experiencing throughout their lives here on earth for 80 or 90 00:17:24.160 --> 00:17:30.320 years never being able to taste what it is to have God live with them never experiencing the 00:17:30.320 --> 00:17:39.520 forgiveness of sins what a wicked evil spirit this is that wants to kill destroy maim who gets 00:17:39.520 --> 00:17:45.120 blamed for it this baby in the manger that grew up to be one who was hung on a cross and they still 00:17:45.120 --> 00:17:45.920 blame him for it 00:17:50.480 --> 00:17:56.800 have a hatred for what the devil is doing we end up hating people who are used by the devil 00:17:56.800 --> 00:18:01.920 and this is why Paul had to say in Ephesians church the gates of hell cannot who is saying this the one who said 00:18:53.520 --> 00:18:59.120 all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me amazing eh like i said two weeks ago
