The Tragically Hip, often referred to simply as the Hip, were a Canadian rock band formed in Kingston, Ontario in 1984, consisting of vocalist Gord Downie, guitarist Paul Langlois, guitarist Rob Baker (known as Bobby Baker until 1994), bassist Gord Sinclair, and drummer Johnny Fay. They released 13 studio albums, one live album, one EP, and over 50 singles over a 33-year career. Nine of their albums have reached No. 1 on the Canadian charts. During their 32-YEAR career, spanning 14 studio albums and millions of records sold, the Tragically Hip have become synonymous with Canadian music. On 8/20/16 at Kingston, Ontario’s Rogers K-Rock Centre, in perhaps one of the most emotional rock concerts ever staged, The Tragically Hip performed their last ever show. Lead singer Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal cancer just months before and the influential Canadian rockers set out on a final jaunt of their home country. The show was broadcast live across Canada and was shown at hundreds of public screenings across the country in bars and outdoor venues. CBC broadcast the concert as “The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration” & streamed it worldwide, with an estimated viewership of 11.7 million in Canada.
