me, I could then have the mind of Christ in every situation 00:00:42.800 --> 00:00:48.760 and I could rediscover what life was like in Eden. 00:00:48.760 --> 00:00:53.360 It's a profound statement, man. 00:00:53.360 --> 00:01:00.160 I said, if I could learn how to dive into the well of the spirit within me, if I could 00:01:00.160 --> 00:01:06.400 dive into the well of the spirit within me, then I would have the mind of Christ in every 00:01:06.400 --> 00:01:12.960 situation and I could rediscover Eden life. 00:01:12.960 --> 00:01:16.120 Liggy had been pestering me through the week saying, so how does that work, how does that 00:01:16.120 --> 00:01:17.600 work, how does that work? 00:01:17.600 --> 00:01:21.320 So finally we can talk about it. 00:01:21.320 --> 00:01:30.400 So the answer lies in Galatians chapter 5 and that's what we'll begin at today. 00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:34.800 Galatians 5.16 says, walk by the spirit. 00:01:34.800 --> 00:01:38.960 Galatians 5.18 says, be led by the spirit. 00:01:38.960 --> 00:01:48.680 Galatians 5 verse 25 says, live by the spirit. 00:01:48.680 --> 00:01:53.680 And so we'll talk about walk by today and then we'll explore the rest over the next 00:01:53.680 --> 00:01:56.440 couple of weeks. 00:01:56.440 --> 00:01:57.440 What is the intent? 00:01:57.440 --> 00:02:04.880 The intent is because the spirit of God lives in me, think of a land in which there is this 00:02:04.880 --> 00:02:12.400 well full of the fountain of life and you have the ability whenever you want to dive 00:02:12.400 --> 00:02:17.720 into it and you would know the mind of God, you would discover what Eden life was supposed 00:02:17.760 --> 00:02:18.760 to be like. 00:02:18.760 --> 00:02:23.720 It's not rediscovering Eden, it is discovering what life in Eden should have been like, could 00:02:23.720 --> 00:02:26.000 have been like, would have been like. 00:02:26.000 --> 00:02:30.120 How do you live like an unfallen Adam in a fallen world? 00:02:30.120 --> 00:02:38.760 How do you live like an unfallen Adam in a fallen world? 00:02:38.760 --> 00:02:45.240 And so we start with this idea in Galatians 5.16 of walk by the spirit. 00:02:45.280 --> 00:02:53.080 The word walk, we take it as just physical activity which I don't engage in much but 00:02:53.080 --> 00:02:57.640 that is because walk means much more. 00:02:57.640 --> 00:03:05.960 Walk is in the Bible used to express the character of a person, used to express the character 00:03:05.960 --> 00:03:12.800 of a person. 00:03:12.800 --> 00:03:20.640 That's where you get this whole idea of walk to talk, in some versions it says and they 00:03:20.640 --> 00:03:25.680 marveled when they saw the disciples because they knew that these disciples had spent time 00:03:25.680 --> 00:03:28.400 with him or walked with him. 00:03:28.400 --> 00:03:35.600 It also means commune, to commune, communing with someone is to walk with someone and so 00:03:35.600 --> 00:03:39.600 you hear things about Enoch where he walked with God. 00:03:40.400 --> 00:03:48.960 And so when we are told to walk by the spirit, the idea is hey, have your character transformed 00:03:48.960 --> 00:03:51.680 by the spirit, begin to commune with the spirit. 00:03:51.680 --> 00:03:53.640 We'll expand on that a little more. 00:03:53.640 --> 00:03:57.280 But I want you to understand that walk by the spirit is not just an action, it is much 00:03:57.280 --> 00:04:01.760 deeper than that, where you begin to express the character of a person in your walk. 00:04:01.760 --> 00:04:10.120 It's fascinating how the blind man, no not, was it the blind man, yeah, the blind man 00:04:10.120 --> 00:04:15.520 who was healed in John chapter 9, how did they know that something had changed in his 00:04:15.520 --> 00:04:16.520 life? 00:04:16.520 --> 00:04:20.360 His walk. 00:04:20.360 --> 00:04:22.600 Here was a blind man who initially couldn't walk. 00:04:22.600 --> 00:04:26.680 Once you begin to see your walk, changes. 00:04:26.680 --> 00:04:30.960 I just thought of that suddenly, don't worry about that, you can pay less attention to 00:04:30.960 --> 00:04:31.960 that. 00:04:31.960 --> 00:04:38.840 In Luke 24, 15, you find Jesus actually turning up and walking with the two disciples who 00:04:38.840 --> 00:04:41.040 were on the way to Emmaus. 00:04:41.040 --> 00:04:47.680 And it says, and suddenly Jesus came and walked alongside them and his question to them is, 00:04:47.680 --> 00:04:49.640 what are you walking and talking about? 00:04:49.640 --> 00:04:50.640 That's his question to them. 00:04:50.640 --> 00:04:53.000 It was this idea of communing. 00:04:53.000 --> 00:04:57.360 These two words, communing and expressing the character of a person are important for 00:04:57.360 --> 00:05:00.920 us to understand when we talk about walking by the spirit. 00:05:01.880 --> 00:05:02.880 Let's take the word by. 00:05:02.880 --> 00:05:08.360 It's not that I'm stuck with analyzing every word, but it's fascinating how walk by the 00:05:08.360 --> 00:05:18.440 spirit, here by means to be animated by, to be motivated by, as in animated by. 00:05:18.440 --> 00:05:21.840 In him we live and move and have a being. 00:05:21.840 --> 00:05:26.480 Walking by the spirit isn't an occasional flirting with the spirit or occasional dive 00:05:26.480 --> 00:05:29.600 into a well on a hot day. 00:05:29.600 --> 00:05:34.400 This is being animated by, as in from the moment I wake up, from the moment that I wake 00:05:34.400 --> 00:05:39.560 up, it's this idea of being animated by the spirit. 00:05:39.560 --> 00:05:43.480 Every action has its source or origin in the spirit of God. 00:05:43.480 --> 00:05:44.780 Guys, this is doable. 00:05:44.780 --> 00:05:49.100 This is doable not by me, not by some one or two people. 00:05:49.100 --> 00:05:54.640 This is doable by all of us, all of us, starting with Tate. 00:05:54.640 --> 00:05:57.760 So animated by the spirit, motivated by the spirit. 00:05:58.680 --> 00:06:03.880 Now the word that you can use is abandoned to the spirit. 00:06:03.880 --> 00:06:11.880 To walk by the spirit is to be abandoned to the spirit, abandoned to the spirit, given 00:06:11.880 --> 00:06:19.880 permission by the spirit, as in, hey, I'm giving you permission to walk by me, to be 00:06:19.880 --> 00:06:23.920 backed up by the spirit, to be backed by the spirit. 00:06:23.920 --> 00:06:29.720 These are the words that come from that simple two letter word by. 00:06:29.720 --> 00:06:35.720 So begin to express my character, commune with me, be animated by me, be motivated by 00:06:35.720 --> 00:06:42.520 me, abandon yourself to me, I back you up fully, I give you permission to walk by me. 00:06:42.520 --> 00:06:44.320 This is the God of the universe. 00:06:45.320 --> 00:06:56.320 And when we talk about the spirit, we have to think of words like zest, space, light, 00:06:56.320 --> 00:07:00.320 freedom, mountain air. 00:07:02.320 --> 00:07:06.320 Morning has broken like the first morning, Cat Stevens. 00:07:06.320 --> 00:07:12.320 I'm just trying to get you to have an idea of what it means to walk by the spirit. 00:07:12.320 --> 00:07:20.320 Morning has broken like the first morning, Blackbirds have spoken like the first light. 00:07:22.320 --> 00:07:23.320 It ends with Eden life. 00:07:23.320 --> 00:07:28.320 The point is this, guys, there is this thing of communing and connecting with the spirit 00:07:28.320 --> 00:07:35.320 that has the same effect of an early morning dawn breaking through out of nowhere. 00:07:35.320 --> 00:07:37.320 First light. 00:07:37.320 --> 00:07:42.320 It is the same sense you have when you go to a place that is untouched by humanity 00:07:42.320 --> 00:07:45.320 and you can smell the fresh mountain air. 00:07:45.320 --> 00:07:51.320 I remember going to this tiny village in Switzerland and for whatever reason woke up at 5 or 5.30 00:07:51.320 --> 00:07:55.320 walked through, you can see the Alps in the background. 00:07:55.320 --> 00:08:00.320 You walk through it and you smell mountain air and then you smell fresh baked bread. 00:08:00.320 --> 00:08:05.320 There's a newness to the life of the spirit that is yours every day to experience. 00:08:05.320 --> 00:08:08.320 That is what I'm trying to get at. 00:08:08.320 --> 00:08:14.320 Begin to taste it because if you don't taste it, you don't know what to run after. 00:08:17.320 --> 00:08:18.320 Zest. 00:08:18.320 --> 00:08:22.320 This life is the dynamics of a spirit life. 00:08:22.320 --> 00:08:26.320 It's a spirit life that is full of zest, full of space. 00:08:26.320 --> 00:08:27.320 It's wide open space. 00:08:27.320 --> 00:08:31.320 One of the things God loves giving is broad places, wide open spaces. 00:08:37.320 --> 00:08:38.320 Light. 00:08:40.320 --> 00:08:41.320 Life. 00:08:41.320 --> 00:08:42.320 Power. 00:08:42.320 --> 00:08:43.320 Unlimited. 00:08:43.320 --> 00:08:44.320 Full. 00:08:44.320 --> 00:08:51.320 Remember these words because these words will give you an idea of where you're at and where you need to be. 00:08:51.320 --> 00:08:52.320 Life. 00:08:52.320 --> 00:08:53.320 Zest. 00:08:53.320 --> 00:08:54.320 Space. 00:08:54.320 --> 00:08:55.320 Full. 00:08:55.320 --> 00:08:56.320 Unlimited. 00:08:56.320 --> 00:08:57.320 First light. 00:08:57.320 --> 00:08:58.320 Mountain air. 00:08:58.320 --> 00:08:59.320 Power. 00:08:59.320 --> 00:09:00.320 Life. 00:09:00.320 --> 00:09:03.320 These are the words that should go with the life of the spirit of God in us. 00:09:09.320 --> 00:09:14.320 And then you realize we are living with the same life that we have. 00:09:14.320 --> 00:09:18.320 And then you realize we are living well below our privilege. 00:09:24.320 --> 00:09:25.320 Questions, comments? 00:09:35.320 --> 00:09:38.320 Guys, always remember, if we don't show, people won't know. 00:09:38.320 --> 00:09:39.320 If we don't wait upon. 00:09:59.320 --> 00:10:01.320 Wait upon it day and night. 00:10:01.320 --> 00:10:03.320 You have to wait upon it. 00:10:03.320 --> 00:10:04.320 You have to wait upon it. 00:10:04.320 --> 00:10:05.320 You have to wait upon it. 00:10:05.320 --> 00:10:07.320 Wait upon it day and night. 00:10:07.320 --> 00:10:09.320 Day in, day out. 00:10:09.320 --> 00:10:10.320 Wait upon it. 00:10:10.320 --> 00:10:14.320 And if you wait upon it, then you won't have to mount up with wings like eagles. 00:10:14.320 --> 00:10:21.320 The mounting up with wings like eagles, yes, it happens, but it does not happen daily. 00:10:21.320 --> 00:10:28.320 You've got to learn how to wait upon it so that when the mounting up with wings like eagles happens, it's an extra bonus. 00:10:28.320 --> 00:10:31.320 But you know how to wait upon the spirit and live life. 00:10:31.320 --> 00:10:32.320 Zest. 00:10:32.320 --> 00:10:33.320 Space. 00:10:33.320 --> 00:10:34.320 Unlimited. 00:10:34.320 --> 00:10:35.320 Life. 00:10:35.320 --> 00:10:36.320 Mountain air. 00:10:36.320 --> 00:10:37.320 Early morning light. 00:10:37.320 --> 00:10:40.320 All that you can live on a very mundane common day. 00:10:42.320 --> 00:10:44.320 Because most people live there. 00:10:45.320 --> 00:10:48.320 Mounting up with wings like eagles happens at a conference. 00:10:48.320 --> 00:11:01.320 What will happen here is habitation will become the norm and manifestation and visitation will only happen during worship conferences or a Sunday where you come together, where you're not living from spiritual thrill to spiritual thrill, 00:11:01.320 --> 00:11:04.320 nor are you seeking spiritual thrill after spiritual thrill. 00:11:04.320 --> 00:11:11.320 You're not seeking highs because you've learned how to circulate at an altitude that in itself is phenomenal. 00:11:23.320 --> 00:11:24.320 Any questions? 00:11:24.320 --> 00:11:27.320 They shall mount up with wings like eagles, but who? 00:11:27.320 --> 00:11:28.320 They that wait upon the Lord. 00:11:28.320 --> 00:11:29.320 Which is longer? 00:11:29.320 --> 00:11:31.320 Wait upon the Lord or mounting up with wings like eagles? 00:11:31.320 --> 00:11:32.320 Waiting. 00:11:39.320 --> 00:11:41.320 We make mounting up with wings like an eagle a reward for waiting. 00:11:41.320 --> 00:11:43.320 Waiting is the reward. 00:11:43.320 --> 00:11:46.320 We make mounting up with wings like an eagle a reward for waiting. 00:11:46.320 --> 00:11:47.320 Waiting is the reward. 00:11:54.320 --> 00:11:55.320 Sela. 00:11:56.320 --> 00:11:58.320 Waiting is the reward. 00:11:59.320 --> 00:12:01.320 Because who are we waiting on? 00:12:01.320 --> 00:12:02.320 Him. 00:12:05.320 --> 00:12:08.320 The mount of transfiguration does not happen every day. 00:12:08.320 --> 00:12:13.320 But the valley happens every day and you will find yourself with Jesus in the valley. 00:12:14.320 --> 00:12:19.320 And he may take three of us up the mountain to behold him being transfigured. 00:12:19.320 --> 00:12:21.320 And he will say to you, do not tell anybody. 00:12:26.320 --> 00:12:36.320 One of the promises I've had to make God is that Father, when you do things that are pretty amazing or pretty supernatural, 00:12:36.320 --> 00:12:38.320 I give you my word I won't tell anybody. 00:12:40.320 --> 00:12:46.320 Because that is sometimes the precedent or precedent to having these things happen in your life. 00:12:46.320 --> 00:12:50.320 Because we love blabbing about our experiences. 00:12:51.320 --> 00:12:52.320 I do. 00:12:58.320 --> 00:12:59.320 Presence requires waiting. 00:13:00.320 --> 00:13:03.320 Presence requires waiting as a bridegroom for his bride. 00:13:03.320 --> 00:13:06.320 Presence requires waiting as a bridegroom for his bride. 00:13:09.320 --> 00:13:10.320 Full of hope. 00:13:11.320 --> 00:13:12.320 Waiting for a breakthrough. 00:13:14.320 --> 00:13:17.320 Presence always sees the fifth sized cloud. 00:13:17.320 --> 00:13:19.320 Presence sees the fifth sized cloud. 00:13:19.320 --> 00:13:21.320 Circumstances get frustrated. 00:13:21.320 --> 00:13:24.320 You live in circumstances, you will get frustrated at delay. 00:13:24.320 --> 00:13:28.320 You live in presence, you will see the fifth sized cloud miles away. 00:13:28.320 --> 00:13:31.320 Presence requires waiting as a bridegroom for his bride. 00:13:31.320 --> 00:13:32.320 Full of hope. 00:13:32.320 --> 00:13:34.320 Full of excited hope. 00:13:34.320 --> 00:13:38.320 Full of this sense of breakthrough is around the corner. 00:13:38.320 --> 00:13:46.320 Full of this sense of I can catch the glimpse of a fifth sized cloud the moment it shows up even if my servant doesn't. 00:13:46.320 --> 00:13:49.320 Presence is full of certainty even though it is not a cloud. 00:13:49.320 --> 00:13:51.320 Presence is full of certainty even though it is not a cloud. 00:13:51.320 --> 00:13:53.320 Presence is full of certainty even though it is not a cloud. 00:13:53.320 --> 00:13:56.320 The moment it shows up even if my servant doesn't. 00:13:56.320 --> 00:14:00.320 Presence is full of certainty even though there is nothing to be certain about physically. 00:14:00.320 --> 00:14:02.320 Presence is full of expectation. 00:14:02.320 --> 00:14:03.320 Full of expectation. 00:14:03.320 --> 00:14:04.320 It is impossible. 00:14:04.320 --> 00:14:05.320 Impossible. 00:14:05.320 --> 00:14:08.320 I'm sorry I'm getting excited but I can't help it. 00:14:08.320 --> 00:14:14.320 It is impossible to be in the presence of God, to know the presence of God, to walk with the presence of God and not have expectation. 00:14:14.320 --> 00:14:16.320 It is not possible. 00:14:17.320 --> 00:14:19.320 I have expectations of you. 00:14:20.320 --> 00:14:22.320 I walk with you, I expect some things. 00:14:23.320 --> 00:14:35.320 Then what is the problem with Christianity then? 00:14:35.320 --> 00:14:38.320 Is it perhaps that there is an absence of presence? 00:14:38.320 --> 00:14:40.320 And therefore no expectation. 00:14:40.320 --> 00:14:44.320 Therefore hardly likely that you'll catch the glimpse of a fifth sized cloud. 00:14:44.320 --> 00:14:45.320 Therefore no breakthrough. 00:14:45.320 --> 00:14:48.320 Therefore not expectant excited hope. 00:14:48.320 --> 00:14:50.320 Therefore no certainty. 00:14:54.320 --> 00:15:01.320 And if these things are real then it will be conveyed through my face, through my words, through my actions. 00:15:06.320 --> 00:15:10.320 It's always conveyed in words, expression and action. 00:15:10.320 --> 00:15:12.320 Guys Adam had presence. 00:15:12.320 --> 00:15:14.320 Adam had presence. 00:15:14.320 --> 00:15:18.320 We don't know how long Adam had before he fell eh. 00:15:18.320 --> 00:15:19.320 We have no idea. 00:15:19.320 --> 00:15:24.320 We don't know whether it's seven years, seven days, seven weeks. 00:15:24.320 --> 00:15:28.320 I don't know but man he did know the presence of God. 00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:36.320 The only time I feel bad for Adam is when I think to myself he knew what it was and then he didn't have it. 00:15:38.320 --> 00:15:43.320 We don't know what it was and what we have we thrill in because it's so amazing. 00:15:43.320 --> 00:15:47.320 He knew what it was and then he lost it. 00:15:47.320 --> 00:15:49.320 That must hurt. 00:15:56.320 --> 00:15:58.320 Adam had presence. 00:15:58.320 --> 00:16:04.320 In Genesis 3, 8 it says that in the cool of the evening. 00:16:04.320 --> 00:16:07.320 So it was hot even then. 00:16:10.320 --> 00:16:15.320 It was not like oh there was no summer, no winter, it was not hot. 00:16:15.320 --> 00:16:19.320 No it was hot so and so that it says in the cool of the evening God would come down. 00:16:19.320 --> 00:16:26.320 Perhaps partly because days would start in the evening in Genesis. 00:16:26.320 --> 00:16:27.320 But we don't know. 00:16:27.320 --> 00:16:33.320 Let's assume for whatever reason Genesis 3, 8 it says in the cool of the evening God would come by and he would walk around. 00:16:33.320 --> 00:16:35.320 Adam had presence. 00:16:35.320 --> 00:16:41.320 The thing is the word there when it says and God would come down and walk in the cool of the evening 00:16:41.320 --> 00:16:47.320 carries in it habitual divine movement. 00:16:50.320 --> 00:16:58.320 As in the way the sentence is phrased it almost seems like this was a habit that God had cultivated. 00:16:58.320 --> 00:17:01.320 Where this divine movement was habitual. 00:17:01.320 --> 00:17:03.320 It was something that he used to do on a regular basis. 00:17:03.320 --> 00:17:05.320 It was not a Genesis 3, 8 thing. 00:17:05.320 --> 00:17:10.320 The very word, the very way the sentence is phrased is this was habitual for God. 00:17:10.320 --> 00:17:11.320 Adam had presence. 00:17:11.320 --> 00:17:19.320 One of the things that happens when presence happens is you get to see certain habits of divine movement. 00:17:19.320 --> 00:17:22.320 Just think of it for a second. 00:17:22.320 --> 00:17:28.320 Where you have gotten so used to God and his presence that you know his habits before they... 00:17:28.320 --> 00:17:33.320 You begin to recognize that there are certain things about God that are predictable. 00:17:33.320 --> 00:17:43.320 I love it when I can find even one thing about God that is predictable and I'm waiting around the corner 00:17:43.320 --> 00:17:46.320 and he pretends he doesn't know that I'm there. 00:18:03.320 --> 00:18:06.320 That's not a concrete enough example. 00:18:11.320 --> 00:18:13.320 I know sometimes when... 00:18:13.320 --> 00:18:16.320 This is a very silly example but I'll give you... 00:18:16.320 --> 00:18:18.320 I know when I... 00:18:18.320 --> 00:18:21.320 There's a gift card that is going to expire. 00:18:21.320 --> 00:18:28.320 I know that I don't need to worry because that day before it expires someone is going to come and give me 00:18:28.320 --> 00:18:31.320 the same gift card loaded with more money. 00:18:31.320 --> 00:18:34.320 And I know it.
