00:02:56.000 --> 00:03:04.440 He planted trees that reproduce so that there will be trees in the world forever. 00:03:04.440 --> 00:03:17.720 So today we deal with, as the divine warrior marches on. 00:03:17.920 --> 00:03:19.760 That's the part we deal with. 00:03:19.760 --> 00:03:28.360 So one of the things about the divine warrior, and we talked about this briefly last week, 00:03:28.360 --> 00:03:29.920 someone asked a question. 00:03:29.920 --> 00:03:35.840 The divine warrior is a jealous warrior. 00:03:35.840 --> 00:03:40.880 And so one of the words we'll have to look at, if we want to understand warrior, if we 00:03:40.880 --> 00:03:47.200 want to understand the zeal of this warrior, we will have to understand that he's a jealous 00:03:47.200 --> 00:03:48.200 warrior. 00:03:48.200 --> 00:03:51.600 And this word we'll focus on today and you'll see why. 00:03:51.600 --> 00:03:53.760 The divine warrior is a jealous warrior. 00:03:53.760 --> 00:04:08.840 If you go to Exodus 34, Exodus 34, 14, Exodus 34, 14, it says, do not worship any other 00:04:08.840 --> 00:04:14.400 God for the Lord whose name is jealous is a jealous God. 00:04:14.400 --> 00:04:16.860 His name is jealous. 00:04:17.520 --> 00:04:21.220 Strange, eh, that he names himself jealous. 00:04:21.220 --> 00:04:25.660 That's what it says in Exodus 34, 14. 00:04:25.660 --> 00:04:27.060 He's not even saying I'm a jealous God. 00:04:27.060 --> 00:04:28.740 He's saying my name is jealous. 00:04:28.740 --> 00:04:37.340 And to understand the zeal of the divine warrior, you must understand what it is to have a God 00:04:37.340 --> 00:04:40.500 whose name is jealous. 00:04:40.500 --> 00:04:44.180 Because all kingdom reformation, all kingdom revival through the Old Testament and the 00:04:44.300 --> 00:04:51.540 New Testament has always been initiated by a leader or by people who are jealous for 00:04:51.540 --> 00:04:54.220 God. 00:04:54.220 --> 00:05:01.820 Every kingdom revival, every kingdom reformation in the Old Testament and the New Testament 00:05:01.820 --> 00:05:09.380 could only start or could only be initiated if a people or a leader became jealous for 00:05:09.380 --> 00:05:10.900 God. 00:05:10.900 --> 00:05:19.340 So be it Phinehas, who in Numbers 25 is jealous with the jealousy of God and takes a spear 00:05:19.340 --> 00:05:25.320 and thrusts it through Cosby and Zimri to bring an end to a plague. 00:05:25.320 --> 00:05:27.860 And you would think that God would say that was pretty violent. 00:05:27.860 --> 00:05:35.060 Instead he says Phinehas possesses my zeal, my jealousy, and therefore he will be remembered 00:05:35.060 --> 00:05:37.980 throughout history. 00:05:37.980 --> 00:05:40.140 You take David. 00:05:40.140 --> 00:05:41.140 What triggered David? 00:07:03.820 --> 00:07:08.140 That a jealousy for the house of God and the zeal of God has possessed me and I will cleanse 00:07:08.140 --> 00:07:11.820 this place. 00:07:11.820 --> 00:07:17.980 There is no reformation, no revival in the kingdom that can be initiated without a people 00:07:17.980 --> 00:07:24.060 or a leader taking on the jealousy of God. 00:07:24.140 --> 00:07:27.100 Gideon same thing. 00:07:27.100 --> 00:07:31.760 He goes in the middle of the night and starts pulling down Asherah poles and the altar that 00:07:31.760 --> 00:07:39.760 was built to Baal because he cannot now after being chosen, after being called mighty warrior 00:07:39.760 --> 00:07:42.020 he cannot stay hidden. 00:07:42.020 --> 00:07:47.180 That he goes at night is because he was a little scared but in the daylight he still 00:07:47.180 --> 00:07:49.380 stands and his father sides with him. 00:07:49.460 --> 00:07:56.020 When people take on the jealousy of God others who don't have the courage will step up also. 00:07:56.020 --> 00:07:57.020 That's the other thing. 00:07:57.020 --> 00:08:02.500 When a people or a leader is possessed with the jealousy of God others who lack the courage 00:08:02.500 --> 00:08:05.940 will now step up. 00:08:05.940 --> 00:08:10.380 And so you cannot have a divine, you cannot have the zeal of the divine warrior without 00:08:10.380 --> 00:08:13.100 having the jealousy of the divine warrior. 00:08:13.100 --> 00:08:24.540 Seen it enough, the word jealousy, zeal and jealousy come from the same word. 00:08:24.540 --> 00:08:36.820 Q-I-N-A-H, kinah in Hebrew and this is the word that is both for zeal and jealous. 00:08:36.820 --> 00:08:42.220 Zealous and jealous are both contained in this word. 00:08:42.220 --> 00:08:43.540 This is the word that's used. 00:08:43.540 --> 00:08:48.080 So when you look at scriptures in the Old Testament and it says the zeal of the Lord 00:08:48.080 --> 00:08:51.980 will accomplish it, it is this word. 00:08:51.980 --> 00:08:57.200 In some versions actually in King James' version it says the jealousy of God, not the 00:08:57.200 --> 00:09:00.500 King James, in some versions it says the jealousy of God will accomplish it. 00:09:00.500 --> 00:09:04.780 Meaning when he's jealous about something he's zealous about it. 00:09:04.780 --> 00:09:10.900 Jealousy and zealousness are together. 00:09:10.900 --> 00:09:14.300 The zeal of the Lord will accomplish it. 00:09:14.300 --> 00:09:22.580 In Isaiah 42, Isaiah 42 verse 13, it talks about God being a man of war. 00:09:22.580 --> 00:09:26.900 Go to Isaiah 42, 13. 00:09:26.900 --> 00:09:29.900 Isaiah 42, 13. 00:09:40.900 --> 00:09:43.620 Let me read from the NIV first. 00:09:43.620 --> 00:09:46.900 The Lord will march out like a champion, like a warrior. 00:09:46.900 --> 00:09:49.620 He will stir up a zeal, again the word kinah. 00:09:49.620 --> 00:09:57.220 With a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies. 00:09:57.220 --> 00:09:58.380 Reading from the King James. 00:09:58.380 --> 00:10:00.500 The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man. 00:10:00.500 --> 00:10:03.220 He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war. 00:10:03.220 --> 00:10:04.220 He shall cry. 00:10:04.220 --> 00:10:05.580 Yes, he shall roar. 00:10:05.580 --> 00:10:08.500 He shall prevail against his enemies. 00:10:08.500 --> 00:10:13.580 So even the idea of the mighty warrior stirring himself up comes out of his jealousy over 00:10:13.580 --> 00:10:18.780 something that belongs to him or that he is in relationship with. 00:10:18.780 --> 00:10:22.780 That is what causes zeal to rise. 00:10:22.780 --> 00:10:27.180 One of the questions I'll ask in the end is are we jealous over the things of God? 00:10:27.180 --> 00:10:28.460 Are we jealous about the church? 00:10:28.460 --> 00:10:31.620 Are we jealous about the bride? 00:10:31.620 --> 00:10:38.300 Because zeal is impossible to possess if jealousy isn't there. 00:10:38.300 --> 00:10:47.620 In Deuteronomy 33, verse 29, different versions put it differently but the statement being 00:10:47.620 --> 00:10:50.540 made is, Israel, you are so blessed. 00:10:50.540 --> 00:10:52.540 Message says, lucky Israel. 00:10:52.540 --> 00:10:53.540 Why? 00:10:53.540 --> 00:10:58.740 Because there's a word used there for God with the many other titles that he has, Yahweh 00:10:58.740 --> 00:11:00.340 Rohi, Yahweh Shama. 00:11:00.340 --> 00:11:03.500 In Deuteronomy 33, 29, there's a name for him. 00:11:03.500 --> 00:11:04.500 It's called Yahweh Kareb. 00:11:05.500 --> 00:11:10.900 Yahweh Kareb, meaning God my glorious sword. 00:11:10.900 --> 00:11:16.060 This mighty warrior is so zealous, so jealous over his son, Israel. 00:11:16.060 --> 00:11:18.380 And he called Israel his son, Israel my son. 00:11:18.380 --> 00:11:23.340 He's so jealous over his son that there is another name for God that Israel refers to 00:11:23.340 --> 00:11:33.220 him as and it's Yahweh Kareb, which means God my glorious sword. 00:11:33.220 --> 00:11:39.420 And here is Moses writing and he is writing as God speaks and he says, blessed Israel, 00:11:39.420 --> 00:11:41.420 lucky Israel. 00:11:41.420 --> 00:11:47.380 You have God as your shield and your glorious sword and your enemies cover before you. 00:11:47.380 --> 00:11:51.580 They form before you as you trample upon their high places. 00:11:51.580 --> 00:11:57.860 The divine warrior is possessed with jealousy and therefore if you want to be ones who are 00:11:58.060 --> 00:12:04.540 able to march with him in Revelation 19, then you also have to have a jealousy that he possesses 00:12:04.540 --> 00:12:08.460 over the things that he is jealous about. 00:12:08.460 --> 00:12:11.700 Which then brings us to how do we define jealous? 00:12:11.700 --> 00:12:14.900 If God says his name is jealous, just think of that. 00:12:14.900 --> 00:12:18.340 He says, he doesn't even say I'm a jealous God. 00:12:18.340 --> 00:12:20.380 He says my name is jealous. 00:12:20.380 --> 00:12:22.020 How do we define it? 00:12:22.980 --> 00:12:31.380 So the first thing we need to understand is God does not become jealous. 00:12:31.380 --> 00:12:34.940 God does not become jealous. 00:12:34.940 --> 00:12:39.940 He is jealous. 00:12:39.940 --> 00:12:46.540 And he is not envious. 00:12:46.540 --> 00:12:51.140 Because for us, envy and jealousy exist together. 00:12:51.140 --> 00:12:52.140 God does not become jealous. 00:12:52.140 --> 00:12:56.740 He is not having a good day and suddenly goes, hit by a pang of jealousy. 00:12:56.740 --> 00:12:59.260 No, God does not become jealous. 00:12:59.260 --> 00:13:01.140 He is jealous. 00:13:01.140 --> 00:13:02.620 And we'll define jealous. 00:13:02.620 --> 00:13:05.660 He is jealous and he is not envious. 00:13:05.660 --> 00:13:08.180 He is not envious. 00:13:08.180 --> 00:13:28.180 Envy is a desire to possess something that does not belong to you. 00:13:28.180 --> 00:13:31.980 Anyone here who hasn't experienced this emotion? 00:13:31.980 --> 00:13:35.980 Praise the Lord, honest church. 00:13:35.980 --> 00:13:43.980 Envy is a desire to possess something that does not belong to you. 00:13:43.980 --> 00:13:49.980 And that is the core of Satan's rebellion. 00:13:49.980 --> 00:13:51.980 That is the core of Satan's rebellion. 00:13:51.980 --> 00:13:53.980 Because what did he want? 00:13:53.980 --> 00:13:54.980 He wanted something he did not have. 00:13:54.980 --> 00:13:55.980 What did he want? 00:13:55.980 --> 00:13:58.980 He wanted the throne of God. 00:13:58.980 --> 00:14:00.980 He wanted to be as the most high. 00:14:00.980 --> 00:14:02.980 And so that's what he offers Adam to. 00:14:02.980 --> 00:14:04.980 Don't you want to be like God? 00:14:04.980 --> 00:14:09.980 He offered to Adam what he wanted. 00:14:09.980 --> 00:14:14.980 So envy is a desire to possess something that does not belong to you. 00:14:14.980 --> 00:14:17.980 And it lies at the core of Satan's rebellion. 00:14:17.980 --> 00:14:22.980 It is something he uses with mankind continuously, uses in the church. 00:14:22.980 --> 00:14:29.980 It's one thing we really need to guard against because it goes back a long way, see. 00:14:29.980 --> 00:14:31.980 So what is God's jealousy? 00:14:31.980 --> 00:14:50.980 God's jealousy is a strong desire to maintain relational faithfulness 00:14:50.980 --> 00:14:54.980 with those who belong to him. 00:14:54.980 --> 00:14:57.980 With those who belong to him. 00:15:01.980 --> 00:15:10.980 God's jealousy is a strong desire to maintain relational faithfulness with those who belong to him. 00:15:10.980 --> 00:15:25.980 And this jealousy didn't lead to manipulation, to rivalry. 00:15:25.980 --> 00:15:30.980 It did not lead to manipulation, rivalry or even possessiveness. 00:15:30.980 --> 00:15:37.980 This jealousy led to his death. 00:15:37.980 --> 00:15:45.980 Strange, eh? 00:15:45.980 --> 00:15:51.980 So strange. 00:15:51.980 --> 00:16:02.980 His jealousy is his strong desire to maintain a relational faithfulness with me. 00:16:02.980 --> 00:16:05.980 And he doesn't do it through usurping my will. 00:16:05.980 --> 00:16:07.980 He doesn't do it through manipulating my will. 00:16:07.980 --> 00:16:10.980 He doesn't do it through possessiveness. 00:16:10.980 --> 00:16:15.980 He doesn't do it through creating rivalry or competition to reach him. 00:16:15.980 --> 00:16:18.980 He does it through his death. 00:16:18.980 --> 00:16:24.980 This jealousy led to his death. 00:16:24.980 --> 00:16:32.980 If he wasn't jealous over creation, there was no deep call to die. 00:16:32.980 --> 00:16:35.980 Because he can create more. 00:16:35.980 --> 00:16:41.980 What happens when the pie you're baking goes wrong? 00:16:41.980 --> 00:16:46.980 You trash it. You start again. 00:16:46.980 --> 00:16:58.980 Or you call people you don't like and you give it to them as a gift. 00:16:58.980 --> 00:17:03.980 This gets me, eh? That his jealousy leads to his death. 00:17:03.980 --> 00:17:12.980 But he will not cease from being jealous because it's what saves us. 00:17:12.980 --> 00:17:16.980 And if he is jealous, then this is why he grieves. 00:17:16.980 --> 00:17:20.980 If he is jealous, this is why he can be hurt. 00:17:20.980 --> 00:17:22.980 Because there's a yearning. 00:17:22.980 --> 00:17:31.980 There's a yearning to maintain relational faithfulness. 00:17:31.980 --> 00:17:35.980 You should allow his jealousy to win your heart. 00:17:35.980 --> 00:17:42.980 You should allow his jealousy to win your heart. 00:17:42.980 --> 00:17:47.980 You should allow his jealousy to win your heart. 00:17:47.980 --> 00:17:56.980 Because he's already yours. He's so jealous, he's already yours. 00:17:56.980 --> 00:18:01.980 You know, when you are very sure of someone's love for you 00:18:01.980 --> 00:18:04.980 and their jealousy to maintain that relationship with you, 00:18:04.980 --> 00:18:11.980 you know that they are already yours. 00:18:11.980 --> 00:18:13.980 You know that it doesn't matter what you do. 00:18:13.980 --> 00:18:17.980 They'll do what it takes to maintain the relationship. 00:18:17.980 --> 00:18:21.980 But you don't have to worry about, oh, will I lose out on this? 00:18:21.980 --> 00:18:23.980 Will they exchange me for someone else? 00:18:23.980 --> 00:18:29.980 Will I be discarded and become an unnecessary person 00:18:29.980 --> 00:18:31.980 because I've disappointed or I've failed? 00:18:31.980 --> 00:18:34.980 That goes away. Why? 00:18:34.980 --> 00:18:41.980 Because God is so jealous over me that I already have him. 00:18:41.980 --> 00:18:46.980 Any questions before we go on? 00:18:46.980 --> 00:18:50.980 Use his jealousy to your advantage. 00:18:50.980 --> 00:18:53.980 Allow jealousy to win your heart. 00:18:53.980 --> 00:19:00.980 Allow his jealousy to win your heart. 00:19:00.980 --> 00:19:09.980 I'm sure I've said this at least ten times before, 00:19:09.980 --> 00:19:11.980 but then there are ten new people since I said it last. 00:19:11.980 --> 00:19:18.980 Shortly before 9-11, I went to Seattle with Pastor Mike, 00:19:18.980 --> 00:19:23.980 and we went to a meeting where there was a guy called Ira speaking. 00:19:23.980 --> 00:19:28.980 And we enter and the guy turns to me and says, 00:19:28.980 --> 00:19:29.980 what's your name? 00:19:29.980 --> 00:19:30.980 I said, Jacob. 00:19:30.980 --> 00:19:37.980 And he says, Jacob, you are special to God. 00:19:37.980 --> 00:19:43.980 And he says, that doesn't mean that God will treat you extra with extra goodies 00:19:43.980 --> 00:19:47.980 or he won't give you more pocket money than he gives others. 00:19:47.980 --> 00:19:51.980 There's something about you that attracts his heart. 00:19:51.980 --> 00:19:55.980 And you will find that Satan will come and try to whoop you up many times. 00:19:55.980 --> 00:19:59.980 And every time he does that, remember that you are special to God. 00:19:59.980 --> 00:20:02.980 This was more than 12-13 years ago. 00:20:02.980 --> 00:20:04.980 But it stayed with me. 00:20:04.980 --> 00:20:08.980 And the reason it stayed with me was not because of the specialness, 00:20:08.980 --> 00:20:13.980 but because it was odd to hear God say those words. 00:20:13.980 --> 00:20:19.980 And I would say to you that he would say that to you too. 00:20:19.980 --> 00:20:25.980 And once you know that that is the jealousy he has over you, 00:20:25.980 --> 00:20:28.980 then you know you have him for the rest of your life. 00:20:28.980 --> 00:20:31.980 Can you say that one more time, those words that were spoken to you, please? 00:20:31.980 --> 00:20:33.980 Jacob, you are special to God. 00:20:33.980 --> 00:20:35.980 Aren't we all special to God? 00:20:35.980 --> 00:20:38.980 That's exactly what I said.
