00:00:38.160 --> 00:00:39.160 What's going on? 00:00:39.160 --> 00:00:40.160 What's your story? 00:00:40.160 --> 00:00:44.320 Talked for a bit, and then at the end of it, the people who were walking the streets, they 00:00:44.320 --> 00:00:47.560 asked, do you want to stay at a hotel tonight? 00:00:47.560 --> 00:00:52.200 And the guy's eyes lit up, and he said, yes, I'd love that. 00:00:52.200 --> 00:00:53.600 I'd like to take a shower. 00:00:53.640 --> 00:00:55.360 I'd like to change. 00:00:55.360 --> 00:01:00.960 I haven't slept like that for years, so would definitely like to do that. 00:01:00.960 --> 00:01:10.600 Later on, they found out that that very morning, his sister had met him after years. 00:01:10.600 --> 00:01:18.120 And as the conversation proceeded, he ended up saying something along the lines of, looks 00:01:18.120 --> 00:01:20.320 like there is a new start for me. 00:01:20.320 --> 00:01:26.920 Because after so many years, his sister reached out to him, connected, and then later that 00:01:26.920 --> 00:01:31.680 evening, there are guys talking with this person saying, do you want a new start? 00:01:31.680 --> 00:01:41.120 And he said, yes, and acknowledged the fact that there is something new happening. 00:01:41.120 --> 00:01:46.780 In all these stories, one of the things that stand out is that there is also a proclamation 00:01:46.780 --> 00:01:53.380 of who Jesus is and what Jesus can do, that he is the one who binds up brokenhearted, 00:01:53.380 --> 00:01:56.540 that he is the one who takes care of you. 00:01:56.540 --> 00:02:01.140 When no one needs you, when you feel like you're unwanted, Jesus cares for you. 00:02:01.140 --> 00:02:05.020 And in all of the stories that happen, that is the central piece. 00:02:05.020 --> 00:02:09.580 So while you take care of the person, while you help in the ways that you can, in all 00:02:09.580 --> 00:02:14.780 of the stories, one thing that happens is they come to know about Jesus. 00:02:14.780 --> 00:02:21.700 There was this other incident where someone was at a bank and they went there to withdraw 00:02:21.700 --> 00:02:27.980 money, but as they withdrew money, what they realized is that there is a lady on the right 00:02:27.980 --> 00:02:30.080 hand side and she's crying. 00:02:30.080 --> 00:02:36.660 And so asked the lady what's going on and she began to share her story and said she 00:02:36.660 --> 00:02:44.180 has been separated from her son who is 15 years old and that she can't bear it. 00:02:44.180 --> 00:02:52.900 And after the conversation, this particular person asked the question, why are you homeless 00:02:52.900 --> 00:02:59.860 and are you not afraid of the fact that during nighttime you're alone and people can come 00:02:59.860 --> 00:03:00.960 harm you? 00:03:00.960 --> 00:03:06.400 So how are you living this way? 00:03:06.400 --> 00:03:07.680 Are you not afraid? 00:03:07.680 --> 00:03:09.820 Do you not want to go to a shelter? 00:03:10.660 --> 00:03:16.820 The lady's response was that she's not concerned of the fact that people may come and harm 00:03:16.820 --> 00:03:19.700 her because there is no one to talk with her. 00:03:19.700 --> 00:03:24.300 Her bigger problem was that day or night, regardless of where she is, there is not a 00:03:24.300 --> 00:03:26.920 single person that talks with her. 00:03:26.920 --> 00:03:32.900 So she would rather have someone come, not do harm, but at least talk because that is 00:03:32.900 --> 00:03:35.900 something that she has missed out in her life. 00:03:35.900 --> 00:03:38.500 There is no one that talks with her. 00:03:38.540 --> 00:03:45.340 And so the people who were there, they began to pray, began to tell her what Jesus can 00:03:45.340 --> 00:03:50.900 do and they're going to meet again and see what God does. 00:03:50.900 --> 00:03:52.460 So just a few stories that happened. 00:03:52.460 --> 00:04:00.500 I know Jeremy here met someone at Wally the other day and prayed for them, had words 00:04:00.500 --> 00:04:02.100 for that person. 00:04:02.100 --> 00:04:09.820 And again, people are, it's amazing how God allows us to meet people and then in the process 00:04:09.820 --> 00:04:14.860 of meeting, you're actually taking care of the immediate need, but also there is a proclamation 00:04:14.860 --> 00:04:16.540 of what Jesus can do. 00:04:16.540 --> 00:04:20.980 And if Jesus is the one who initiated it, he's the one who can finish it because he's 00:04:20.980 --> 00:04:22.300 very good at that. 00:04:22.300 --> 00:04:25.500 So just some stories for us so that we know what's going on. 00:04:33.100 --> 00:04:35.100 Thank you, Derek. 00:04:35.100 --> 00:04:38.100 Guys, just a couple of quick announcements. 00:04:38.100 --> 00:04:40.100 April 18th, we have an AGM. 00:04:40.100 --> 00:04:43.100 April 18th, we have an AGM. 00:04:43.100 --> 00:04:46.100 And so you're invited Sunday, April 18th. 00:04:46.100 --> 00:04:49.100 You'll get an email regarding it. 00:04:49.100 --> 00:04:51.100 Don't know if it'll be in person or Zoom. 00:04:51.100 --> 00:04:56.100 Don't know whether it'll be in person and Zoom or don't know if it'll be just a live 00:04:56.100 --> 00:04:57.100 stream on Zoom. 00:04:57.100 --> 00:04:58.100 Don't know. 00:04:58.100 --> 00:05:01.100 But April 18th, so there's still time. 00:05:01.100 --> 00:05:03.100 Let's see how it goes. 00:05:03.100 --> 00:05:08.100 But you'll get emails with regard to this, but I just thought I'd let you know. 00:05:08.100 --> 00:05:10.100 So that's one announcement. 00:05:10.100 --> 00:05:19.100 The second announcement is sometimes people say to me, we're learning things Saturday 00:05:19.100 --> 00:05:22.100 and Sunday and it's hard to keep up sometimes. 00:05:22.100 --> 00:05:23.100 And that's true. 00:05:23.100 --> 00:05:25.100 I can't keep up myself. 00:05:25.100 --> 00:05:33.100 But if I may use a way to look at this, it's like when you start building a house, all 00:05:33.100 --> 00:05:36.100 the trades don't come in together. 00:05:36.100 --> 00:05:39.100 They don't come in together and hang out at the house. 00:05:39.100 --> 00:05:43.100 No, each one has a time and they come in and they do their part and they leave. 00:05:43.100 --> 00:05:46.100 And it's only at the end that they see the finished house. 00:05:46.100 --> 00:05:48.100 All the trades don't come in together. 00:05:48.100 --> 00:05:50.100 It's the same way with what we're doing. 00:05:50.100 --> 00:05:55.100 What we're doing is building this thing that God wants to do on Earth, which is a revival. 00:05:55.100 --> 00:05:57.100 Different parts are being brought every week. 00:05:57.100 --> 00:05:59.100 We may not be able to remember what happened last week. 00:05:59.100 --> 00:06:03.100 I find it difficult, so I don't know how you do it. 00:06:03.100 --> 00:06:08.100 And all I know is trades are coming in, building their part, and then they're leaving. 00:06:08.100 --> 00:06:11.100 At the end of the day, the house will look complete. 00:06:11.100 --> 00:06:15.100 That aside, we're also doing it for future generations so that they don't have to do the 00:06:15.100 --> 00:06:18.100 hard work that we are presently engaging in. 00:06:18.100 --> 00:06:22.100 So that when they have to continue or launch something like this, 00:06:22.100 --> 00:06:27.100 they already have a wealth of information as to how God went about doing it. 00:06:27.100 --> 00:06:33.100 Most people, if you look at past revivals, most people chronicled the revival while it is happening. 00:06:33.100 --> 00:06:42.100 There's almost no book written or nothing written on how it actually evolved. 00:06:42.100 --> 00:06:46.100 What were the steps that led up to? What were the buildups? 00:06:46.100 --> 00:06:50.100 What were the layer by layer, brick by brick, line by line, precepts that were put into place 00:06:50.100 --> 00:06:53.100 so that this could burst forth across the globe? 00:06:53.100 --> 00:06:57.100 It's usually chronicled after it started. 00:06:57.100 --> 00:07:03.100 And so that's the way you need to look at this, and it'll really help if you do. 00:07:03.100 --> 00:07:08.100 Look at it that way and not worry about, oh, I don't remember what we did last week. 00:07:08.100 --> 00:07:12.100 You're in good company. 00:07:13.100 --> 00:07:18.100 So let's go with today's teaching. 00:07:18.100 --> 00:07:25.100 I know what we did last week. Last week we did the whole thing about keeping. 00:07:25.100 --> 00:07:29.100 That was on Sunday. What did we do on Saturday? 00:07:29.100 --> 00:07:34.100 I don't remember. Or perhaps you do. 00:07:34.100 --> 00:07:38.100 Angel protection. Angelic protection. 00:07:38.100 --> 00:07:44.100 That's it. You get one month free pass. If you ever get three month probation, you now only get two. 00:07:44.100 --> 00:07:50.100 You can remind Don of it. Don is not here, so he gets another three months on probation. 00:07:50.100 --> 00:07:57.100 That boy can spend his entire life on probation, the rate he's going. 00:07:57.100 --> 00:08:03.100 So today, let's look at it this way. 00:08:04.100 --> 00:08:12.100 So if there was a revival that had already broken out here on Earth, here are some things that you would expect from it. 00:08:12.100 --> 00:08:21.100 You would expect darkness to become light. Darkness to become light. 00:08:21.100 --> 00:08:29.100 If a revival had broken out across the city, let's not even take the Earth across the city, you would expect darkness to become light. 00:08:29.100 --> 00:08:40.100 You would expect an Ezekiel 37 kind of scenario where bones are strengthened and they come together. 00:08:40.100 --> 00:08:48.100 Bones are strengthened. Dry bones are strengthened and they come together. 00:08:48.100 --> 00:08:55.100 If there was a revival that was washing across the city, you would see the glory of God, 00:08:55.100 --> 00:09:05.100 as in his weight, his splendor, his magnificence and his righteousness, as in his right ways, 00:09:05.100 --> 00:09:13.100 you would see it shine. You hear about that in Isaiah 60, verse 1-2, 00:09:13.100 --> 00:09:18.100 Arise and shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. 00:09:18.100 --> 00:09:26.100 If the revival had already broken across and was manifest across the city, 00:09:26.100 --> 00:09:38.100 you would see Christians being able to continually be guided by the Spirit in where we go, who we speak to, how we speak to and what we do. 00:09:39.100 --> 00:09:49.100 You would also find across the city, in really scorched places, desert wastelands, you would find satisfied souls. 00:09:49.100 --> 00:09:57.100 You would find satisfied souls even in scorched land. 00:09:57.100 --> 00:10:04.100 Scorched land, yeah. 00:10:04.100 --> 00:10:10.100 You would find what we've often said God would do in a revival, which is pour water on thirsty ground. 00:10:10.100 --> 00:10:17.100 So you would find well-watered gardens or well-watered ground in a revival. 00:10:17.100 --> 00:10:22.100 Thirsty ground would no longer be thirsty, it would be a well-watered ground. 00:10:22.100 --> 00:10:28.100 And not only would it be a well-watered ground, it would then have springs that flow out. 00:10:28.100 --> 00:10:34.100 That's a cool thing with God pouring water on thirsty ground, eh? 00:10:34.100 --> 00:10:40.100 That not only will he pour water on thirsty ground, that just waters the ground. 00:10:40.100 --> 00:10:45.100 Then it gets to a point where it springs forth, out of you shall flow. 00:10:45.100 --> 00:10:51.100 So it's not just slaking thirst, it is now pouring out water after your thirst is slaked. 00:10:52.100 --> 00:10:59.100 And perhaps the last thing you would think about in terms of a revival, this word always goes with revival, 00:10:59.100 --> 00:11:06.100 you would find that things would be restored and there'd be a new surge of restorers that come out. 00:11:06.100 --> 00:11:16.100 This is the essence I would say, or the manifest evidence of a revival. 00:11:16.100 --> 00:11:25.100 Surprisingly, it is also the essence of Isaiah 58 verse 8 to 12. 00:11:29.100 --> 00:11:36.100 It is also the essence of Isaiah 58, 8 to 12. So if you looked at Isaiah 58, 8 to 12, that's what you see. 00:11:36.100 --> 00:11:40.100 And if you want a title for today's teaching, it's 58, 12. 00:11:40.100 --> 00:11:43.100 58, 12, that's the title for today's teaching. 00:11:43.100 --> 00:11:50.100 So if you go to Isaiah 58 verse 12, and this is the same teaching we'll be continuing tomorrow, 00:11:50.100 --> 00:11:57.100 Isaiah 58, 8 to 12. Let me just read it from the NIV. 00:11:59.100 --> 00:12:03.100 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear. 00:12:03.100 --> 00:12:08.100 Your righteousness will go before you. The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. 00:12:08.100 --> 00:12:11.100 You will call, the Lord will answer. You will cry for help, he will say, here am I. 00:12:11.100 --> 00:12:16.100 If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with a pointing finger and malicious talk, 00:12:16.100 --> 00:12:22.100 sorry, not 8 to 12, 11 and 12. 00:12:22.100 --> 00:12:27.100 The Lord will guide you always, he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land, 00:12:27.100 --> 00:12:29.100 and will strengthen your bones or your frame. 00:12:29.100 --> 00:12:33.100 You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. 00:12:33.100 --> 00:12:37.100 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins, will raise up the age-old foundations. 00:12:37.100 --> 00:12:41.100 You will be called repairer of broken walls, restorer of streets with dwellings. 00:12:41.100 --> 00:12:47.100 So as much as this is the essence or the evidence of a revival, 00:12:47.100 --> 00:12:52.100 it is also the essence of Isaiah 58 verse 11 and 12. 00:12:52.100 --> 00:12:55.100 The title for this teaching is 58, 12. 00:12:55.100 --> 00:13:03.100 So for a city to see an Isaiah 58 revival, for a city to see an Isaiah 58 revival, 00:13:03.100 --> 00:13:06.100 and we're only talking about Vancouver, and wherever you listen to this teaching, 00:13:06.100 --> 00:13:09.100 it applies to your city, Vernon, Bahrain, wherever. 00:13:09.100 --> 00:13:19.100 If you want to see an Isaiah 58 revival, you have to engage in an Isaiah 58 fast. 00:13:19.100 --> 00:13:26.100 If you want to see an Isaiah 58 revival, you have to engage in an Isaiah 58 fast. 00:13:26.100 --> 00:13:30.100 This fasting has two elements to it. 00:13:30.100 --> 00:13:38.100 One is an attack on personal sin, an attack on personal sin, as in, 00:13:38.100 --> 00:13:40.100 do not allow it, attack it. 00:13:40.100 --> 00:13:47.100 And the other one is an attack on injustice in the city, attack on injustice in the city. 00:13:51.100 --> 00:13:54.100 These are two essential elements of an Isaiah 58 fast. 00:13:54.100 --> 00:13:57.100 And if you want to see an Isaiah 58 revival, 00:13:57.100 --> 00:14:00.100 and I would suggest to you that's a good idea to see an Isaiah 58 revival, 00:14:00.100 --> 00:14:03.100 because it's the essence of what revivals are. 00:14:03.100 --> 00:14:09.100 If you want to see this, then you have to engage in what is called an Isaiah 58 fast. 00:14:09.100 --> 00:14:16.100 But if an Isaiah 58 fast has two components, one, it's an attack on personal sin, 00:14:16.100 --> 00:14:20.100 as in, Jacob, don't tolerate the things you've tolerated thus far. 00:14:20.100 --> 00:14:23.100 And Jacob says, amen. 00:14:23.100 --> 00:14:26.100 And it is an attack on injustice in the city. 00:14:28.100 --> 00:14:34.100 So today we are going to look at advancing the revival through assaulting injustice, 00:14:34.100 --> 00:14:44.100 advancing the revival through assaulting injustice, advancing this revival in your city, in our city, 00:14:44.100 --> 00:14:50.100 advancing this revival by assaulting injustice, 00:14:50.100 --> 00:14:55.100 advancing this revival by assaulting injustice. 00:14:58.100 --> 00:15:02.100 It's very simple, guys. It's a very short message, actually. 00:15:02.100 --> 00:15:07.100 So if you want Isaiah 58, 11 and 12 to happen, 00:15:07.100 --> 00:15:17.100 if you want Isaiah 58, 11 and 12 to happen, you have to first engage in Isaiah 58, 6 and 7. 00:15:17.100 --> 00:15:22.100 Isaiah 58, 6 and 7. So let's look at Isaiah 58, 6 and 7. 00:15:25.100 --> 00:15:28.100 Is this not the kind of fasting I have chosen? 00:15:29.100 --> 00:15:32.100 Is this not the kind of fasting I have chosen? 00:15:32.100 --> 00:15:38.100 To lose the chains of injustice, to untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke. 00:15:38.100 --> 00:15:42.100 Is it not to share your food with the hungry, to provide the poor wanderer with shelter, 00:15:42.100 --> 00:15:45.100 when you see the naked to clothe them and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 00:15:45.100 --> 00:15:48.100 Is it not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Let's look at another version. 00:15:48.100 --> 00:15:52.100 Let's try the message. Isaiah 58, 6 and 7. 00:15:52.100 --> 00:15:55.100 This is the kind of fast day I am after. 00:15:55.100 --> 00:16:00.100 To break the chains of injustice, get rid of exploitation in the workplace, free the oppressed, cancel debts. 00:16:00.100 --> 00:16:06.100 What I'm interested in seeing you do is sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, 00:16:06.100 --> 00:16:10.100 putting clothes on the shivering, ill-clad, being available to your own families. 00:16:10.100 --> 00:16:13.100 Let's read from the NLC. 00:16:15.100 --> 00:16:17.100 No, this is the kind of fasting I want. 00:16:17.100 --> 00:16:20.100 Free those who are wrongly imprisoned, lighten the burden of those who work for you. 00:16:20.100 --> 00:16:24.100 Let the oppressed go free, remove the chains that bind people, share your food with the hungry, 00:16:24.100 --> 00:16:27.100 give shelter to the homeless, give clothes to those who need them. 00:16:27.100 --> 00:16:31.100 Do not hide from relatives who need your help. 00:16:31.100 --> 00:16:38.100 So if you want Isaiah 58, 11 and 12, and my God, we don't just want it, we need it. 00:16:38.100 --> 00:16:43.100 I hope this tiny whisper called Amen rising in your heart when I say that. 00:16:43.100 --> 00:16:46.100 So it's very simple. God's already arranged everything. 00:16:46.100 --> 00:16:50.100 In just that one chapter, you have what you need for your city. 00:16:50.100 --> 00:16:57.100 To see the things I listed in 11 and 12, you have to engage in a fast, an Isaiah 58 fast. 00:16:57.100 --> 00:17:00.100 An Isaiah 58 fast has two components. 00:17:00.100 --> 00:17:02.100 One, a personal attack on sin. 00:17:02.100 --> 00:17:04.100 Two, an attack on injustice. 00:17:04.100 --> 00:17:11.100 Today, we are going to look at how do we advance a revival in our city by assaulting injustice in the city. 00:17:11.100 --> 00:17:13.100 And we'll continue it tomorrow. 00:17:13.100 --> 00:17:20.100 And one of the ways we assault injustice in our city is by practicing Isaiah 58 verse 6 and 7. 00:17:20.100 --> 00:17:25.100 Let me just put down Isaiah 58, 6 and 7 in ways that we can understand. 00:17:25.100 --> 00:17:27.100 One, break bondages. 00:17:27.100 --> 00:17:37.100 And I know the word bondages can be very extensive, but let's just leave it at that, breaking bondages. 00:17:37.100 --> 00:17:39.100 Two, feeding the hungry. 00:17:39.100 --> 00:17:43.100 This is not some kind of social gospel or anything. It's the Jesus gospel. 00:17:43.100 --> 00:17:45.100 It is Jesus' way of doing things. 00:17:45.100 --> 00:17:47.100 Feeding the hungry. 00:17:50.100 --> 00:17:54.100 Three, housing the homeless. 00:17:56.100 --> 00:17:58.100 Housing the homeless. 00:18:03.100 --> 00:18:08.100 Four, clothing the homeless. 00:18:09.100 --> 00:18:11.100 Clothing the naked. 00:18:11.100 --> 00:18:14.100 Clothing the naked. 00:18:16.100 --> 00:18:21.100 With both dignity and clothes. 00:18:22.100 --> 00:18:24.100 Clothing the naked. 00:18:25.100 --> 00:18:27.100 Clothing the naked with dignity and clothes. 00:18:27.100 --> 00:18:32.100 Five, being sympathetic. 00:18:32.100 --> 00:18:34.100 Being sympathetic. 00:18:35.100 --> 00:18:37.100 Being sympathetic. 00:18:37.100 --> 00:18:41.100 To be sympathetic is to be aware and available. 00:18:45.100 --> 00:18:47.100 To be sympathetic is to be aware and to be available. 00:18:47.100 --> 00:18:48.100 Both are required. 00:18:48.100 --> 00:18:51.100 It is not enough that I'm aware of what you're going through. 00:18:51.100 --> 00:18:57.100 It must also be that if I'm aware of what you're going through, I must be available when you need me 00:18:57.100 --> 00:18:59.100 and sometimes even when you don't know you need me. 00:18:59.100 --> 00:19:02.100 That's how sympathy works. That's how God's sympathy works. 00:19:02.100 --> 00:19:05.100 It's both an awareness and an availability. 00:19:05.100 --> 00:19:09.100 Six, not disdaining or despising. 00:19:09.100 --> 00:19:19.100 Not disdaining or despising others. 00:19:19.100 --> 00:19:27.100 Be they from a different ethnicity, be they from a far left leaning group, far right leaning group, 00:19:27.100 --> 00:19:41.100 be they from a context where they're addicted, be they from a group that you don't agree with in terms of gender, 00:19:41.100 --> 00:19:51.100 preferences, groups of people that may not meet your moral standards or social standards, 00:19:51.100 --> 00:19:57.100 groups that have gotten where they have gotten through irresponsibility, sometimes through bad decisions. 00:19:57.100 --> 00:20:03.100 It doesn't matter. There's no disdaining or despising. 00:20:03.100 --> 00:20:12.100 Groups that may have come in as legitimate immigrants across the wall, across the border, illegitimately. 00:20:12.100 --> 00:20:14.100 It doesn't matter. 00:20:14.100 --> 00:20:17.100 You see where Christianity is at at times. 00:20:17.100 --> 00:20:23.100 They divided down lines where there's great despising and disdain. 00:20:23.100 --> 00:20:35.100 Next one, pouring out your resources, pouring out resources, pouring out resources, pouring out yourself, pouring out yourself. 00:20:35.100 --> 00:20:37.100 And it happens in two ways. 00:20:37.100 --> 00:20:55.100 One, in resources that bring relief, and then relationship that brings relief. 00:20:55.100 --> 00:20:58.100 It's two pronged.
