00:07:29.860 --> 00:07:33.860 Who is the one who inhabits this body? 00:07:33.860 --> 00:07:35.860 Yes, it is Christ, but through whom? 00:07:35.860 --> 00:07:37.860 The Spirit. 00:07:37.860 --> 00:07:40.860 It is he who inhabits this body. 00:07:40.860 --> 00:07:43.860 He is our prime sustainer. 00:07:43.860 --> 00:07:45.860 He is our glorious inhabitant. 00:07:45.860 --> 00:07:48.860 And there can be tons of communities, guys, 00:07:48.860 --> 00:07:49.860 but at the end of the day, 00:07:49.860 --> 00:07:51.860 there's only one community on the face of the Earth 00:07:51.860 --> 00:07:54.860 that operates or functions under the rain 00:07:54.860 --> 00:07:56.860 and the rule of the Holy Spirit. 00:07:56.860 --> 00:07:57.860 Just one community. 00:07:57.860 --> 00:07:58.860 And who are we talking about? 00:07:58.860 --> 00:08:01.860 We're talking about the God of the universe. 00:08:01.860 --> 00:08:05.860 I mean, the same Spirit who hovered over Mary. 00:08:05.860 --> 00:08:07.860 The same Spirit, you know, 00:08:07.860 --> 00:08:10.860 the word used in Genesis was brood. 00:08:10.860 --> 00:08:14.860 The same Spirit that was brooding over the waters 00:08:14.860 --> 00:08:17.860 as God spoke light and there was light out of chaos. 00:08:17.860 --> 00:08:21.860 The same Spirit who was brooding over Mary. 00:08:21.860 --> 00:08:23.860 And Christ was conceived. 00:08:23.860 --> 00:08:27.860 This same Spirit now broods over this body, man. 00:08:27.860 --> 00:08:31.860 And the moment this body begins to open its womb 00:08:31.860 --> 00:08:33.860 to the work of the Holy Spirit, 00:08:33.860 --> 00:08:38.860 what is conceived will be pure God. 00:08:38.860 --> 00:08:39.860 Think of that. 00:08:39.860 --> 00:08:43.860 Think of that of us as body and of us as individuals. 00:08:43.860 --> 00:08:45.860 When the Spirit of God broods over us 00:08:45.860 --> 00:08:47.860 and he broods over us, how do we know? 00:08:47.860 --> 00:08:49.860 In James chapter 4, it says, 00:08:49.860 --> 00:08:53.860 the Holy Spirit yearns jealously over you. 00:08:53.860 --> 00:08:56.860 Yearns jealously over you. 00:08:56.860 --> 00:08:59.860 Like a mother yearns over her little baby, 00:08:59.860 --> 00:09:02.860 so the Holy Spirit yearns jealously over you. 00:09:02.860 --> 00:09:06.860 And when he broods like that over you or over this body, 00:09:06.860 --> 00:09:10.860 what happens is the moment you open your womb to him, 00:09:10.860 --> 00:09:14.860 as in saying, Holy Spirit, I yield my womb to you. 00:09:14.860 --> 00:09:16.860 I yield myself to you. 00:09:16.860 --> 00:09:18.860 Then the Spirit of God produces something in us 00:09:18.860 --> 00:09:21.860 that is pure God. 00:09:21.860 --> 00:09:23.860 Pure God. 00:09:23.860 --> 00:09:27.860 There's no mixture. 00:09:27.860 --> 00:09:29.860 What happens with us, guys, 00:09:29.860 --> 00:09:34.860 is we are not fully convinced that the flesh profits nothing. 00:09:34.860 --> 00:09:39.860 John 6, 63, the flesh profits nothing. 00:09:39.860 --> 00:09:44.860 The Spirit gives life. 00:09:44.860 --> 00:09:47.860 I am not always convinced that the flesh profits nothing, 00:09:47.860 --> 00:09:50.860 so most of the things that are sometimes birthed on earth 00:09:50.860 --> 00:09:55.860 are a mixture of flesh and Spirit. 00:09:55.860 --> 00:09:59.860 But the flesh profits nothing. 00:09:59.860 --> 00:10:02.860 Guys, no one can have an effective life. 00:10:02.860 --> 00:10:04.860 I know you know this, but it's worth repeating. 00:10:04.860 --> 00:10:07.860 No one can have an effective life or ministry 00:10:07.860 --> 00:10:13.860 without God's Spirit working in them like a flow of water, man. 00:10:13.860 --> 00:10:15.860 Not even trickles, eh? 00:10:15.860 --> 00:10:18.860 If my life is to be effective here on earth. 00:10:18.860 --> 00:10:20.860 If my life is to be... 00:10:20.860 --> 00:10:25.860 If our ministry as a people is to be effective here on earth, 00:10:25.860 --> 00:10:29.860 then it is important that the flesh begins to withdraw 00:10:29.860 --> 00:10:31.860 because it profits nothing, 00:10:31.860 --> 00:10:33.860 and the Spirit of God has tremendous flow. 00:10:33.860 --> 00:10:36.860 Hey, you understand now why it says in Zechariah 4, 6 or 4, 7 00:10:36.860 --> 00:10:43.860 that it's not by might, as in, nor by power, 00:10:43.860 --> 00:10:46.860 but by my Spirit. 00:10:46.860 --> 00:10:49.860 Jacob, it's not by might, it's not by a mental prowess, 00:10:49.860 --> 00:10:53.860 it's not by your caliber, it's not even by your gifts. 00:10:53.860 --> 00:10:55.860 It's not even by your spiritual gifts. 00:10:55.860 --> 00:10:59.860 Because one can have spiritual gifts and begin to walk in that 00:10:59.860 --> 00:11:03.860 instead of walking in the character and the purity of God. 00:11:03.860 --> 00:11:05.860 I know I've said this before, 00:11:05.860 --> 00:11:11.860 but gifts are not a sign of your maturity, character is. 00:11:11.860 --> 00:11:13.860 Not by might, not by power, but by the Spirit of God. 00:11:13.860 --> 00:11:15.860 And then John 6, 63, you guys, never forget that. 00:11:15.860 --> 00:11:17.860 I mean, write it on your foreheads. 00:11:17.860 --> 00:11:22.860 Yesterday I was at a barbecue, it was Bob Kran's 65th birthday. 00:11:22.860 --> 00:11:25.860 And so after the barbecue, I went to pick up Derek, 00:11:25.860 --> 00:11:27.860 and we went to White Spot. 00:11:27.860 --> 00:11:29.860 And because there were people we didn't know, 00:11:29.860 --> 00:11:33.860 I had this sticker on my shirt saying, 00:11:33.860 --> 00:11:35.860 my name is Jacob. 00:11:35.860 --> 00:11:37.860 And so I go up to White Spot, 00:11:37.860 --> 00:11:40.860 and the lady is looking at me like, 00:11:40.860 --> 00:11:42.860 what's wrong with you? 00:11:42.860 --> 00:11:45.860 And she perhaps thought that I could not speak. 00:11:45.860 --> 00:11:53.860 And so, and worse, I'm standing there and I'm saying... 00:11:53.860 --> 00:11:57.860 Because I wanted her to know that there's two of us, 00:11:57.860 --> 00:11:59.860 because Derek was behind me, so I said... 00:11:59.860 --> 00:12:01.860 I said, two. 00:12:01.860 --> 00:12:03.860 And she's looking at me all the... 00:12:03.860 --> 00:12:05.860 And she's then quickly going... 00:12:05.860 --> 00:12:09.860 And the worst thing is, Derek didn't tell me. 00:12:10.860 --> 00:12:12.860 So now we are having cheesecake, 00:12:12.860 --> 00:12:15.860 and I suddenly see that it says my name is... 00:12:15.860 --> 00:12:16.860 It says Jacob. 00:12:16.860 --> 00:12:18.860 And Derek's saying, yeah, I knew it, 00:12:18.860 --> 00:12:21.860 but I thought perhaps you wanted people to know. 00:12:21.860 --> 00:12:24.860 Didn't say my birthday is July 17th. 00:12:24.860 --> 00:12:26.860 No, it didn't say my birthday is July 17th, 00:12:26.860 --> 00:12:29.860 because I'm not into publicizing my birthday. 00:12:29.860 --> 00:12:31.860 Yeah. 00:12:34.860 --> 00:12:37.860 Guys, so, John 663, flesh profits nothing. 00:12:37.860 --> 00:12:38.860 Right it down, eh? 00:25:04.860 --> 00:25:09.860 Because he knew that broken fellowship would now be restored. 00:25:11.860 --> 00:25:14.860 It's the same problem with the church, man. 00:25:15.860 --> 00:25:21.860 We think often when we mess up that it is our relationship that is damaged. 00:25:21.860 --> 00:25:24.860 When we don't see God behaving a certain way, 00:25:24.860 --> 00:25:27.860 we think that his relationship with us is undone. 00:25:27.860 --> 00:25:28.860 No, no, no, man. 00:25:28.860 --> 00:25:32.860 Relationship is placement in God because of what Christ has done. 00:25:32.860 --> 00:25:33.860 It is blood-based. 00:25:33.860 --> 00:25:34.860 He takes care of it. 00:25:36.860 --> 00:25:39.860 Odd thing is both the sons in the prodigal story 00:25:41.860 --> 00:25:43.860 didn't have fellowship with the Father 00:25:43.860 --> 00:25:46.860 and they thought that they didn't have relationship with the Father. 00:25:47.860 --> 00:25:51.860 While the Father was one who had a relationship with the prodigal 00:25:51.860 --> 00:25:53.860 and with the older brother. 00:25:53.860 --> 00:25:56.860 What he didn't have with the prodigal was fellowship. 00:25:56.860 --> 00:25:57.860 Why was he happy? 00:25:57.860 --> 00:26:02.860 Because at last broken fellowship was being restored. 00:26:03.860 --> 00:26:11.860 The Father ran to the son because he had always carried the sorrow of broken relationship. 00:26:11.860 --> 00:26:13.860 The Father celebrated and said, 00:26:13.860 --> 00:26:16.860 bring the calf out because fellowship had been restored. 00:26:16.860 --> 00:26:19.860 The relationship was never in doubt. 00:26:20.860 --> 00:26:23.860 The relationship was never in doubt. 00:26:25.860 --> 00:26:27.860 On the Father's side. 00:26:27.860 --> 00:26:30.860 The relationship was never in doubt. 00:26:34.860 --> 00:26:37.860 Both sons didn't understand relationship or fellowship. 00:26:37.860 --> 00:26:39.860 That's often the plight of the church. 00:26:41.860 --> 00:26:43.860 Often the plight of the church. 00:26:44.860 --> 00:26:46.860 Some of us need to take note of this. 00:26:48.860 --> 00:26:52.860 You're maintaining relationship with God through obedience. 00:26:55.860 --> 00:26:57.860 Some of us in this church, 00:26:58.860 --> 00:27:00.860 and there are times when I do it, 00:27:00.860 --> 00:27:02.860 we're more aware of it than some of you. 00:27:02.860 --> 00:27:07.860 Some of you in this church are maintaining a relationship with God through obedience. 00:27:08.860 --> 00:27:09.860 There's another word for it. 00:27:09.860 --> 00:27:10.860 It's called legalism. 00:27:12.860 --> 00:27:16.860 Obedience is the evidence of a relationship and fellowship. 00:27:16.860 --> 00:27:20.860 Obedience is not the origin of relationship and fellowship. 00:27:24.860 --> 00:27:29.860 Some of us are trying to maintain a relationship with God through obedience. 00:27:29.860 --> 00:27:30.860 Obedience. 00:27:31.860 --> 00:27:35.860 Obedience is the evidence of relationship with God. 00:27:35.860 --> 00:27:39.860 Obedience should not be the origin of a relationship with God. 00:27:39.860 --> 00:27:43.860 It should not be the fuel that fires up the relationship with God. 00:27:45.860 --> 00:27:47.860 Obedience should be the evidence. 00:27:47.860 --> 00:27:51.860 As in, because I love him, therefore I will obey. 00:27:51.860 --> 00:27:56.860 Not, I will obey so that he can love me. 00:27:57.860 --> 00:28:02.860 The moment you obey so that he can love me, he can do this for me, he can answer my prayer, 00:28:02.860 --> 00:28:04.860 he can do that or he can do this. 00:28:04.860 --> 00:28:08.860 The moment you do that, you're stepping into a place called legalism. 00:28:08.860 --> 00:28:14.860 Your relationship once you are the son born of God is never in question, guys. 00:28:14.860 --> 00:28:16.860 It cannot be damaged. 00:28:16.860 --> 00:28:23.860 But what can be broken again and again and that which needs to be restored is fellowship with God. 00:28:23.860 --> 00:28:26.860 And the Spirit of God does this. He empowers fellowship. 00:28:26.860 --> 00:28:34.860 But know this, that some of us try to maintain a relationship with God by obedience. 00:28:34.860 --> 00:28:37.860 When God is saying, I like that but it ain't good enough. 00:28:37.860 --> 00:28:41.860 I want fellowship and out of fellowship should come your obedience 00:28:41.860 --> 00:28:46.860 because you no longer do anything for me because you are afraid of me or because you want things. 00:28:46.860 --> 00:28:51.860 Obedience is the natural evidence of your relationship with me. 00:28:53.860 --> 00:28:56.860 I love him, therefore I will. 00:28:57.860 --> 00:29:01.860 Not, I will first. 00:29:01.860 --> 00:29:02.860 I love him, therefore I will. 00:29:02.860 --> 00:29:05.860 Or I will because I love him, however you want to phrase it. 00:29:05.860 --> 00:29:09.860 But obedience should be the evidence of fellowship and relationship. 00:29:09.860 --> 00:29:18.860 And it's easy to spot a, you know, when someone is lacking in fellowship with God in the way they pray. 00:29:18.860 --> 00:29:20.860 You can hear how they pray and you'll know. 00:29:20.860 --> 00:29:23.860 You can hear, you can see how transparent they are and you'll know. 00:29:23.860 --> 00:29:27.860 You'll see the way they go about doing God works and you'll know. 00:29:27.860 --> 00:29:30.860 You'll see the way they engage with others and you'll know. 00:29:30.860 --> 00:29:32.860 You'll hear their stories and you will know. 00:29:32.860 --> 00:29:35.860 You'll see the way they talk about their life and their work. 00:29:35.860 --> 00:29:37.860 You'll seezzo. 00:29:37.860 --> 00:29:39.860 You'll hear their stories and you will know. 00:29:39.860 --> 00:29:43.860 You will see the change or the lack of change in their lives and you will know. 00:29:43.860 --> 00:29:52.860 That here is someone who is born of God but is trying to maintain relationship with a list of things I should do and should not do. 00:29:52.860 --> 00:29:58.860 And it's not coming out of open fellowship with the Father that the Spirit can bring to pass. 00:29:58.860 --> 00:30:03.860 And out of that comes evidence of obedience which you don't even think of obedience. 00:30:03.860 --> 00:30:09.860 You don't even think of this whole idea of to obey is better than sacrifice because it's not a sacrifice anymore. 00:30:09.860 --> 00:30:20.860 Like I've said many times before, nothing is a sacrifice when you like somebody. 00:30:20.860 --> 00:30:24.860 No cost is too great to pay when you like somebody. 00:30:24.860 --> 00:30:32.860 Obedience costs, no longer will obedience cost suddenly because you're doing it out of tremendous fellowship. 00:30:32.860 --> 00:30:34.860 Wow, what a way to live. 00:30:34.860 --> 00:30:41.860 Guys, some of these truths are so hidden and yet so true that it's a shame that it hasn't been spoken of before. 00:30:41.860 --> 00:30:44.860 People talk about how obedience is costly. 00:30:44.860 --> 00:30:48.860 True, you will pay the cost upfront or you will pay many times over later. 00:30:48.860 --> 00:30:53.860 But obedience is no longer costly when you are doing it for someone you love 00:30:53.860 --> 00:30:59.860 because you do it with such joy that you will empty your pockets and say, take, how much more do you want?
