What does self- striving look like? 00:01:07.000 --> 00:01:13.000 Here are some other words for self- striving. 00:01:13.000 --> 00:01:33.000 It would mean refusing to live by human strength, human wisdom, 00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:58.000 self-sustenance, sweat of our brow, machinations, scheming, conflict of thoughts, 00:01:58.000 --> 00:02:03.000 self-effort. 00:02:03.000 --> 00:02:10.000 If you notice, all the things listed here are the very things that the world says are the ways that we must live. 00:02:10.000 --> 00:02:17.000 And as I'm saying this to you, in your mind is rising the question, but that's so unreasonable. 00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.000 If you don't do that, it's like being lazy. 00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:25.000 Those are the questions that rise in your mind, and we will address them. 00:02:25.000 --> 00:02:36.000 But this is what God was hoping we would pick up from the story in the desert in the Old Testament. 00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:43.000 Any questions before we go on? 00:02:43.000 --> 00:02:46.000 Conflict of thoughts meaning, should I do this, should I not do this? 00:02:46.000 --> 00:02:50.000 Maybe I should have a plan B. What if plan A fails? 00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:54.000 What if the deadline comes and nothing happens? I'm trusting, but what? 00:02:54.000 --> 00:03:03.000 And so there's this war in our minds usually, indecisiveness, hesitation. 00:03:03.000 --> 00:03:07.000 So inside us, we begin to scream, saying, but I've got to do something. 00:03:07.000 --> 00:03:12.000 It's almost exactly like the disciples in the boat. 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:16.000 To a point where we then turn to Christ and we say, Christ, do something. 00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:23.000 Don't just sleep. At least help us with bailing out some water from the boat. 00:03:23.000 --> 00:03:32.000 Oswald Chambers calls it careful unbelief. Careful unbelief. 00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:37.000 This is the extreme to which Christ calls us. 00:03:37.000 --> 00:03:42.000 And when he walked the earth, this is how he lived. 00:03:42.000 --> 00:03:48.000 And to accomplish what we want to in Richmond, in Europe, in any place that he sends us out to, 00:03:48.000 --> 00:03:57.000 in anything that he asks you to do, it is not possible to see full fruit unless it is he at work and not me at work. 00:03:57.000 --> 00:04:05.000 It's an extreme form of living, but it is a Jesus form of living. 00:04:05.000 --> 00:04:12.000 It's not the absence of a work ethic, guys. 00:04:13.000 --> 00:04:21.000 So don't think this is laziness. We'll talk about it as we do. It'll get clearer. 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:28.000 Paul asks this question in Galatians chapter three, verse two and five. 00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:39.000 He says, hey, did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith? 00:04:39.000 --> 00:04:43.000 How did he receive the Spirit? 00:04:43.000 --> 00:04:51.000 Then he goes on further in verse five to say, he who lavishly supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, 00:04:51.000 --> 00:04:55.000 does he do it by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith? 00:04:55.000 --> 00:05:11.000 Is it effort and keeping rules or is it the work of the Spirit 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:31.000 because you listen with ears of faith to the word or the promise of God? 00:05:31.000 --> 00:05:38.000 If two of you can accomplish this in the next year, you'll be stars, man. 00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:41.000 Galatians three, two and five. 00:05:41.000 --> 00:05:47.000 Paul's asking, hey, so how did you get to where you are? 00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:52.000 Did you work at it? Did you work for it or was it by the Spirit? 00:05:52.000 --> 00:05:59.000 Did things happen in your life, Jacob, because of the effort you put in and keeping rules or was it the work of the Spirit 00:05:59.000 --> 00:06:06.000 because you learned how to listen with ears of faith to the word and to the promise? 00:06:06.000 --> 00:06:11.000 What do you mean listen with ears of faith? 00:06:11.000 --> 00:06:17.000 A lot of things are said in the Bible that we hear differently. 00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:23.000 So, Vibi, me and Jane can be sitting and you can be reading the scriptures to us. 00:06:23.000 --> 00:06:32.000 And as we're listening, Vibi may hear something and it'll just do something in his heart because that's how he's listening. 00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:38.000 While I might be sitting there listening to it and it's like, yeah, yeah, I've heard this before. 00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:42.000 Or, yeah, yeah, not right now. Right now is the time for common sense. 00:06:42.000 --> 00:06:44.000 There'll be a time when we can do this. 00:06:44.000 --> 00:06:48.000 Jane might be just sitting and listening and not hearing. 00:06:49.000 --> 00:06:54.000 Hearing with faith is the ability. It's a practice. It's a practice. 00:06:54.000 --> 00:06:57.000 Hearing with faith is a practice that students have in a class. 00:06:57.000 --> 00:07:03.000 You'll have some students who seem to behave like they're not listening, 00:07:03.000 --> 00:07:08.000 but you look at the notes and they've got everything scribbled, man. 00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:12.000 It's a practice, listening by faith. 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:18.000 And when I like a teacher or a preacher that I'm listening to, 00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:26.000 especially when I know that the person I'm listening to carries grace, my God, I listen with ears of faith. 00:07:26.000 --> 00:07:35.000 Why? Because I know there'll be things the person says that will be said in a way that'll do something in my spirit and I'll get it. 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:44.000 And it's not a one-off. You train yourself for 35, 40 years. You keep listening to that and it gets it. 00:07:44.000 --> 00:07:48.000 That's what listening with faith looks like. 00:07:48.000 --> 00:07:54.000 And if you cultivate that, you'll find some truths just leaping inside you, 00:07:54.000 --> 00:08:01.000 which is why you'll find in a room like this, there'll be some people who with some verses seem to know so much more than you, 00:08:01.000 --> 00:08:08.000 even though they're younger than you and haven't spent all that time studying it, because they get it. 00:08:08.000 --> 00:08:11.000 It's an aptitude that is given to everyone. 00:08:11.000 --> 00:08:15.000 This is where you get that scripture alive in a different context. 00:08:15.000 --> 00:08:26.000 Many are called, but few are chosen. Why? Because many here, but few here with faith. 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:32.000 It's fascinating. Sometimes I see husbands and wives, and the wife has been a believer for 40 years, 00:08:32.000 --> 00:08:36.000 and the husband has gotten serious about believing for just five years, 00:08:36.000 --> 00:08:43.000 and the husband suddenly begins to gallop like a horse because he's hearing with faith while his wife is just hearing. 00:08:48.000 --> 00:08:54.000 For the Holy Spirit to move in us, or for us to move with the Holy Spirit, you need to hear with faith. 00:08:54.000 --> 00:09:04.000 Because when you do, it preserves seed when you hear with faith. 00:09:04.000 --> 00:09:10.000 It preserves seed, meaning whatever God says, it's preserved in your heart. 00:09:10.000 --> 00:09:14.000 It burns in your heart. 00:09:14.000 --> 00:09:18.000 It burns the impossible. 00:09:18.000 --> 00:09:24.000 Brandon, Diana can't see what I'm writing. 00:09:24.000 --> 00:09:30.000 So when you hear with faith, it preserves seed, meaning whatever God says gets deposited. 00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:36.000 Now, Dilna, it doesn't just say, I'm going to give you a seed, I'm going to give you a seed. 00:09:37.000 --> 00:09:42.000 So when you hear with faith, it preserves seed, meaning whatever God says gets deposited. 00:09:42.000 --> 00:09:46.000 Now, Dilna, it doesn't matter what's happening in his life, Dilna can't pull it out. 00:09:46.000 --> 00:09:53.000 It births the impossible. Everything impossible is born in the spirit of a man. 00:09:53.000 --> 00:09:59.000 And that is where he first begins to envision what must be brought to pass. 00:09:59.000 --> 00:10:05.000 If you don't see it inside you, you will not be able to bring it to pass. 00:10:05.000 --> 00:10:09.000 God shows you, he births the impossible inside you. 00:10:09.000 --> 00:10:13.000 The impossible is never produced outside you. 00:10:13.000 --> 00:10:16.000 The impossible is always produced inside you. 00:10:16.000 --> 00:10:19.000 Please understand this, it's critical. 00:10:19.000 --> 00:10:25.000 Any dream, any vision, any prophetic word that does not, or the word of God, 00:10:25.000 --> 00:10:32.000 any principle in the word must, the impossibility of it must be birthed inside you. 00:10:32.000 --> 00:10:42.000 Once it's birthed inside you, that's when it begins to become, oh shucks, it's gone. 00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:48.000 Speedy Gonzales. 00:10:49.000 --> 00:10:53.000 It births the impossible. It subdues attacks. 00:10:53.000 --> 00:10:58.000 When people attack it, when the enemy attacks it, it subdues attacks. 00:10:58.000 --> 00:11:02.000 Why? Because you heard with faith. 00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:07.000 It identifies open doors. It identifies open doors. 00:11:07.000 --> 00:11:12.000 Once you hear with faith, your eyes are like those R2D2, 00:11:12.000 --> 00:11:16.000 and you locate the door. 00:11:16.000 --> 00:11:19.000 I thought that was good. 00:11:19.000 --> 00:11:24.000 It gives you endurance. It gives you endurance. 00:11:24.000 --> 00:11:26.000 And it gives you boldness. 00:11:26.000 --> 00:11:30.000 These are the things that happen when you hear with faith. 00:11:30.000 --> 00:11:35.000 It's the first step towards living out of rest. 00:11:35.000 --> 00:11:39.000 Read Hebrews 11, Hebrews 4. Read backwards, yeah? 00:11:39.000 --> 00:11:43.000 Read backwards, yeah? Hebrews 4, 11 to 9. 00:11:43.000 --> 00:11:47.000 Hebrews 4, 11 to 9. 00:11:47.000 --> 00:11:52.000 Don't worry if you read the scriptures backwards, no harm will come to you. 00:11:52.000 --> 00:11:57.000 Hebrews 4, 11 to 9. 00:11:57.000 --> 00:12:02.000 Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest 00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:07.000 so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. 00:12:07.000 --> 00:12:12.000 For anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their works, 00:12:12.000 --> 00:12:15.000 just as God did from his. 00:12:15.000 --> 00:12:19.000 There remains then a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 00:12:19.000 --> 00:12:20.000 Let me start again. 00:12:20.000 --> 00:12:25.000 Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest 00:12:25.000 --> 00:12:29.000 so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. 00:12:29.000 --> 00:12:32.000 So if you don't enter rest, if you try striving on your own, 00:12:32.000 --> 00:12:35.000 it is actually seen as disobedience. 00:12:35.000 --> 00:12:41.000 Verse 10, for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their works, 00:12:41.000 --> 00:12:43.000 just as God did from his. 00:12:43.000 --> 00:12:48.000 Verse 9, there remains then a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 00:12:48.000 --> 00:12:58.000 It's a travesty when we take the idea of Sabbath and confine it to one day. 00:12:58.000 --> 00:13:03.000 That's terrible. 00:13:03.000 --> 00:13:05.000 You can argue that Jacob, are you saying one should not rest? 00:13:05.000 --> 00:13:06.000 No, I'm not saying that. 00:13:06.000 --> 00:13:12.000 I'm just saying it's a travesty when people take the idea of Sabbath 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:16.000 and confine it to a Sunday or if you are a pastor on Monday or whatever. 00:13:16.000 --> 00:13:20.000 Oh, I won't be meeting you because it's my Sabbath. 00:13:20.000 --> 00:13:24.000 There's such a holy glow around it. 00:13:24.000 --> 00:13:29.000 As we talk about rest and Sabbath, you'll realize that it is so much more. 00:13:29.000 --> 00:13:34.000 That if we actually practice rest, we may not need a Sabbath, 00:13:34.000 --> 00:13:42.000 but we'll take one anyways. 00:13:42.000 --> 00:13:48.000 Tearing with faith is the first step towards living out of rest. 00:13:48.000 --> 00:13:51.000 So God took six days to create everything. 00:13:51.000 --> 00:13:54.000 God took six days to create everything. 00:13:54.000 --> 00:13:59.000 And when he created man, he concluded creation. 00:13:59.000 --> 00:14:02.000 God took six days to create everything. 00:14:02.000 --> 00:14:06.000 When he created man, he concluded creation. 00:14:06.000 --> 00:14:10.000 God created only one thing for himself. 00:14:10.000 --> 00:14:18.000 The only thing that God created for himself was the seventh day, the Sabbath rest. 00:14:18.000 --> 00:14:22.000 Six days he created things, he created it for humanity. 00:14:22.000 --> 00:14:25.000 On the sixth day he created things, on the sixth day he stops. 00:14:25.000 --> 00:14:27.000 He's created man, creation is done. 00:14:27.000 --> 00:14:30.000 And then what does he do? On the seventh day he creates something, 00:14:30.000 --> 00:14:34.000 but he creates it only for himself. 00:14:34.000 --> 00:14:38.000 On the seventh day, God creates what's called the Sabbath or rest. 00:14:38.000 --> 00:14:45.000 And it says, and then God rested from all his creation. 00:14:45.000 --> 00:14:52.000 This is why in Hebrews chapter 4, it's saying, God has entered into rest. 00:14:52.000 --> 00:15:06.000 You need to also, so stop striving and enter into the rest that God has already entered into. 00:15:06.000 --> 00:15:09.000 Any questions before we go on? 00:15:09.000 --> 00:15:11.000 Yep. 00:15:17.000 --> 00:15:19.000 Yeah. 00:15:19.000 --> 00:15:21.000 Yeah, so hearing with faith. 00:15:21.000 --> 00:15:32.000 What does the book of Proverbs say when it comes to walking outside the home of a woman whose husband has gone away 00:15:32.000 --> 00:15:34.000 and she's waiting at the door to seduce you? 00:15:34.000 --> 00:15:40.000 And what does Proverbs say about a woman called wisdom who is waiting to spread a feast for you? 00:15:40.000 --> 00:15:44.000 I hear and after I hear, it is very simple. 00:15:44.000 --> 00:15:49.000 Now I don't go down the wrong road saying, close your eyes, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, do not sin, do not sin. 00:15:49.000 --> 00:15:51.000 No, it's very simple. 00:15:51.000 --> 00:15:56.000 I hear with faith and I go down the road where the woman with the wisdom lives. 00:15:56.000 --> 00:16:00.000 So at the end of the day, what are we doing when we hear with faith? 00:16:00.000 --> 00:16:04.000 We are only doing what God tells us to, not an iota more. 00:16:04.000 --> 00:16:14.000 Hearing with faith is this idea that I will not do an extra bit than what God has commanded. 00:16:14.000 --> 00:16:29.000 That is so difficult for us because we think that we can add or tinker with what God does perfectly and make it better. 00:16:29.000 --> 00:16:34.000 You don't know what it felt like for Joshua. 00:16:34.000 --> 00:16:37.000 He's fought wars, guys. 00:16:37.000 --> 00:16:42.000 He was the war chieftain for Moses. 00:16:42.000 --> 00:16:45.000 He's seen what it is to take cities. 00:16:45.000 --> 00:16:51.000 And then just when he's given leadership, he has to do the unthinkable. 00:16:51.000 --> 00:16:56.000 He has to act like a non-warrior. 00:16:57.000 --> 00:17:01.000 He has to follow a bunch of singers. 00:17:01.000 --> 00:17:09.000 And so here he is quietly following singers and everything in him is screaming because he's a strategist. 00:17:09.000 --> 00:17:18.000 It's screaming saying, come on, man, just being quiet and walking around silently, how's this going to cut it? 00:17:18.000 --> 00:17:21.000 And it's not just one day. 00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:24.000 It's Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. 00:17:24.000 --> 00:17:27.000 You know how frustrating that is? 00:17:31.000 --> 00:17:36.000 He is a commander and he has to do that. 00:17:38.000 --> 00:17:41.000 But he insists on doing that. Why? 00:17:41.000 --> 00:17:43.000 Because he knows how things are won. 00:17:43.000 --> 00:17:46.000 Things are won through rest. 00:17:46.000 --> 00:17:54.000 And we don't have the ability not to get involved. 00:18:01.000 --> 00:18:06.000 And so it's not the absence of a work ethic. 00:18:06.000 --> 00:18:10.000 It is doing nothing more than you're asked for. 00:18:10.000 --> 00:18:12.000 Another example. 00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:16.000 Saul sees the little boy who wants to go up against a giant. 00:18:16.000 --> 00:18:24.000 And the least Saul can do, knowing David has an amazing harpist and a guy who has such anointing when he leads worship, 00:18:24.000 --> 00:18:28.000 the least he can do is give him his armor. 00:18:28.000 --> 00:18:30.000 And the king's armor was good armor. 00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:32.000 So he gives him his armor. 00:18:32.000 --> 00:18:34.000 David refuses. 00:18:34.000 --> 00:18:37.000 He says it doesn't fit, but that's not the real thing. 00:18:37.000 --> 00:18:40.000 He refuses because he knows how this must be done. 00:18:40.000 --> 00:18:45.000 It must be done through picking five stones from a brook. 00:18:49.000 --> 00:18:56.000 Rest is the ability to enter into a place where all striving, self-effort, sweat, 00:18:56.000 --> 00:19:03.000 trying to plan machinations end because human wisdom ceases, 00:19:03.000 --> 00:19:10.000 human strength is withdrawn because you use all these things I have mentioned only to do what he's asked you to, 00:19:10.000 --> 00:19:13.000 not an iota more. 00:19:13.000 --> 00:19:21.000 That is when God can say, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. 00:19:21.000 --> 00:19:30.000 That is why we don't hear it too often because he can't say that because Jacob is busy making sure other arrangements have come into place 00:19:30.000 --> 00:19:38.000 in case God is sovereign, which simply means in case God fails. 00:19:38.000 --> 00:19:42.000 It's a tough place to live, guys. 00:19:47.000 --> 00:19:54.000 Rest is not an attitude where you live in denial, where you pretend you're not busy, 00:19:54.000 --> 00:20:01.000 when your reality may include Goliaths, there are waves, there are mountains like finances and other insecurities. 00:20:01.000 --> 00:20:03.000 Rest is not pretending they do not exist. 00:20:03.000 --> 00:20:07.000 Rest is not ostrich living where you live in denial. 00:20:07.000 --> 00:20:11.000 But Psalm 23, again, another David Psalm, 00:20:11.000 --> 00:20:15.000 you prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies. 00:20:15.000 --> 00:20:17.000 That's crazy. 00:20:17.000 --> 00:20:19.000 You should be fighting instead. 00:20:19.000 --> 00:20:24.000 Instead, you have a banquet table and you're sitting at a banquet table in the presence of your enemies. 00:20:24.000 --> 00:20:27.000 Why are you sitting at a banquet table in the presence of your enemies? 00:20:27.000 --> 00:20:32.000 Because you're sitting with the king of the universe and the enemy knows it. 00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:35.000 And that becomes a threat to the enemy then. 00:20:35.000 --> 00:20:42.000 Rest threatens Satan because he can take on human wisdom and human strength. 00:20:42.000 --> 00:20:46.000 He did that right off the bat in the Garden of Eden. 00:20:46.000 --> 00:20:48.000 He dealt with human wisdom and human strength. 00:20:48.000 --> 00:20:51.000 And by the way, he dealt with human wisdom and human strength. 00:20:51.000 --> 00:20:55.000 That was pure. 00:20:55.000 --> 00:20:56.000 It wasn't even corrupted. 00:20:56.000 --> 00:20:58.000 It was before the fall. 00:20:58.000 --> 00:21:00.000 He knows how to deal with human wisdom and human strength. 00:21:00.000 --> 00:21:03.000 He knows how to deal with Jacob's human wisdom and human strength. 00:21:03.000 --> 00:21:07.000 If that is what Jacob is going to use to lead the church, he can deal with that. 00:21:07.000 --> 00:21:11.000 But what he cannot deal with is the foolishness of God. 00:21:18.000 --> 00:21:31.000 Yep, Hebrews chapter 4 talks about it. 00:21:31.000 --> 00:21:41.000 They had the promise, but they were not able to mix it with ears that hurt it with faith or actions that would involve faith. 00:21:41.000 --> 00:21:44.000 So God took six days to create everything. 00:21:44.000 --> 00:21:47.000 When he created man, he concluded creation. 00:21:47.000 --> 00:21:50.000 God created one thing for himself, Sabbath rest. 00:21:50.000 --> 00:21:52.000 God entered the rest. 00:21:52.000 --> 00:21:55.000 And now he's saying, can you guys enter it too? 00:21:55.000 --> 00:21:57.000 How do we know he actually said that? 00:21:57.000 --> 00:21:59.000 Here's how. 00:21:59.000 --> 00:22:03.000 This is fascinating. 00:22:03.000 --> 00:22:26.000 So first, he says, Israel, I command you to enter into my rest one day a week. 00:22:26.000 --> 00:22:34.000 In other words, we need to look at command my rest one day a week. 00:22:34.000 --> 00:22:37.000 This was serious business for God. 00:22:37.000 --> 00:22:43.000 If you violated the Sabbath in the Old Testament, you would be killed. 00:22:43.000 --> 00:22:45.000 You'd be stoned to death. 00:22:45.000 --> 00:22:56.000 Because the breaking of Sabbath was a violation of a serious relationship dynamic that God had with Israel. 00:22:56.000 --> 00:22:58.000 And so look at those words. 00:22:58.000 --> 00:22:59.000 I command you. 00:22:59.000 --> 00:23:00.000 So that's the first thing. 00:23:00.000 --> 00:23:02.000 The second thing is enter into my rest. 00:23:02.000 --> 00:23:08.000 My rest here is not just chilling your hammock. 00:23:08.000 --> 00:23:14.000 My rest as in one day a week, can I take over taking care of you? 00:23:14.000 --> 00:23:16.000 That's what it means. 00:23:16.000 --> 00:23:17.000 Just hear me. 00:23:17.000 --> 00:23:26.000 Rest actually means, can I take over taking care of everything in your life? 00:50:23.000 --> 00:50:24.000 The Spirit of God. 00:50:25.000 --> 00:50:26.000 Come, kids. 00:50:32.000 --> 00:51:00.000 So yeah, we've been wanting to share this story. 00:51:00.000 --> 00:51:05.000 It's been such a blessing to be able to do this today. 00:51:06.000 --> 00:51:09.000 So as you all know, we have our baby, Eli Kim, with us. 00:51:10.000 --> 00:51:18.000 And sometime in the end of last year, I had two different dreams on separate nights. 00:51:19.000 --> 00:51:23.000 One, and both of them, when I woke up from both those dreams, I wasn't puzzled. 00:51:24.000 --> 00:51:27.000 I was very certain of what it meant, and Don and I both prayed. 00:51:27.000 --> 00:51:30.000 And we were certain that it meant that we were going to have a baby boy. 00:51:31.000 --> 00:51:35.000 And the second dream revealed the name to us, Eli Kim. 00:51:36.000 --> 00:51:45.000 And again, that's just so amazing because the name Eli Kim wasn't something that was, that had ever stuck with me, even when I read the Bible. 00:51:46.000 --> 00:51:50.000 So reading about it and knowing the significance of Eli Kim in the Bible was just so amazing. 00:51:51.000 --> 00:51:54.000 And the way God revealed it to us was just so special. 00:51:54.000 --> 00:52:00.000 So of course we were so excited and we were looking forward to the day that we would know that we were expecting. 00:52:01.000 --> 00:52:07.000 And lo and behold, a month later we got to know we were pregnant. 00:52:08.000 --> 00:52:09.000 I mean, I was pregnant. 00:52:10.000 --> 00:52:16.000 And the name part was fun because it was always a fun little thing to do, suggest names. 00:52:17.000 --> 00:52:19.000 At least maybe it was just fun for me. I don't know about Don. 00:52:19.000 --> 00:52:21.000 But yeah, so the name and everything was great. 00:52:22.000 --> 00:52:29.000 And we got to know we were pregnant and we were just so happy, so excited, so thankful, so all the great emotions that you can think of. 00:52:30.000 --> 00:52:33.000 And that was also the time around when we were moving. 00:52:34.000 --> 00:52:35.000 We were moving into our new place. 00:52:36.000 --> 00:52:41.000 So Jacob had come to our place to pray for the house. 00:52:42.000 --> 00:52:47.000 And you know, Don, because he was very excited, he was showing every room and he told, oh, this little room is the nursery. 00:52:47.000 --> 00:52:52.000 And then Jacob just looks at us and asks, oh, is it like, are you going to have to use it very soon? 00:52:53.000 --> 00:52:54.000 And then we just look at each other and then we confirm. 00:52:55.000 --> 00:52:56.000 We're like, yeah, Jacob, we are pregnant. 00:52:57.000 --> 00:52:59.000 And yeah, he's also happy about it. 00:53:00.000 --> 00:53:01.000 And then he prays for the house. 00:53:02.000 --> 00:53:04.000 And after praying for the house, he also prays for the baby. 00:53:05.000 --> 00:53:08.000 And he also, without us telling anything, he says that it's going to be a baby boy. 00:53:09.000 --> 00:53:12.000 And he tells that, you know, you have to name the baby. 00:53:12.000 --> 00:53:18.000 You don't have to name him David, but name him something that is related to David. 00:53:19.000 --> 00:53:24.000 And like him in the Bible, holds the keys to the house of David. 00:53:25.000 --> 00:53:32.000 And it was just, you know, it was like a moment of like we had goosebumps where, wow, God, you're really confirming this. 00:53:33.000 --> 00:53:37.000 And so we had the name, we had the gender already in mind without even having a test. 00:53:38.000 --> 00:53:39.000 It was all great. 00:53:39.000 --> 00:53:46.000 And the first scan, you know, when you go for the first scan, for those of you who know, it's almost nothing, but we were so excited just looking at nothing even. 00:53:47.000 --> 00:53:54.000 And for the second scan when we went, that's again, for those of you who know, it's the more detailed scan. 00:53:55.000 --> 00:53:56.000 It's also the one where you know the gender. 00:53:57.000 --> 00:53:58.000 But at this point, we're very convinced that it's a boy. 00:53:59.000 --> 00:54:00.000 So we didn't really need that. 00:54:01.000 --> 00:54:02.000 So we walked into the scan. 00:54:03.000 --> 00:54:04.000 It was a pretty long one. 00:54:04.000 --> 00:54:11.000 We walked out of it just and the person asked me like, do you want to know the gender right away or do you want it in an envelope? 00:54:12.000 --> 00:54:19.000 And I said we wanted it in an envelope because we were planning to do a gender reveal, which Iris would plan for us. 00:54:20.000 --> 00:54:29.000 So we had that. We were going home and an hour or late, like an hour or so after that, I get a call from the doctor saying, 00:54:29.000 --> 00:54:37.000 Hey, you don't have nothing to be worried about, but you know, there's an irregularity in the heart rate and in the rhythm. 00:54:38.000 --> 00:54:39.000 So, you know, we just want to rule out any possibilities. 00:54:40.000 --> 00:54:45.000 So we would want you to go into Peacearch Maternity Clinic for just a closer look. 00:54:46.000 --> 00:54:49.000 Just you don't need to be worried about anything, but just so you can have a closer look. 00:54:50.000 --> 00:54:52.000 So in just a couple of days, the appointment was booked. 00:54:53.000 --> 00:54:59.000 And that is again, like that's not pretty common in Canada, at least so far from what I've seen so far to get appointments that quickly. 00:55:00.000 --> 00:55:03.000 So I was like, oh, things are happening pretty quickly. 00:55:04.000 --> 00:55:08.000 And we were taken aback, but we weren't too like we weren't too broken. 00:55:09.000 --> 00:55:12.000 We were praying. We were hopeful because we knew what God had promised. 00:55:13.000 --> 00:55:17.000 But still there were there were there were these thoughts in our mind of what this was going to be. 00:55:17.000 --> 00:55:25.000 We go into Peacearch Maternity Clinic and then the doctor says a doctor again does the scan and the scan is pretty primitive. 00:55:26.000 --> 00:55:30.000 I would say it's not it's not the most advanced technology that was being used. 00:55:31.000 --> 00:55:35.000 And she says, you know, I'm hearing a gallop in the heart. 00:55:36.000 --> 00:55:40.000 I wouldn't say that it's not a problem at all. 00:55:41.000 --> 00:55:42.000 But again, I don't want to scare you guys. 00:55:43.000 --> 00:55:44.000 So let's just do one thing. 00:55:44.000 --> 00:55:48.000 We are going to refer you to maternal fetal medicine. 00:55:49.000 --> 00:55:56.000 That's a special wing that's for that looks into the that looks into like the organs and the development of the baby in the womb. 00:55:57.000 --> 00:56:01.000 And it's like a special wing that's that's only there at like Jim Patterson's and BC Women's Hospital. 00:56:02.000 --> 00:56:05.000 So we were booked at Jim Patterson's a few days later. 00:56:06.000 --> 00:56:12.000 So this is again now like this has started to bring in some sort of like, you know, OK, why are things like what's happening? 00:56:12.000 --> 00:56:16.000 And again, that was booked again in a matter of three to four days. 00:56:17.000 --> 00:56:20.000 So we could sense and we could sense the urgency that these doctors were showing. 00:56:21.000 --> 00:56:29.000 And we we were telling all we were updating Jacob and our families of all of this and they were like praying for us. 00:56:30.000 --> 00:56:31.000 And we were also praying. 00:56:32.000 --> 00:56:40.000 The day comes when we are at maternal fetal medicine and that that day that appointment was very if you go into the room, it's a very somber room because everybody there. 00:56:40.000 --> 00:56:46.000 They're all high risk pregnancies or they're potentially looking for something like it's a very somber atmosphere. 00:56:47.000 --> 00:56:48.000 We walk in praying. 00:56:49.000 --> 00:56:52.000 We're hoping that, you know, we're going to come out like every possibility ruled out. 00:56:53.000 --> 00:56:55.000 We're going to come back positive with everything positive. 00:56:56.000 --> 00:57:01.000 Right. And we go in the sonographer does her thing and she does it for around 40 minutes. 00:57:02.000 --> 00:57:03.000 She doesn't really say anything. 00:57:04.000 --> 00:57:06.000 And so before this. 00:57:07.000 --> 00:57:09.000 Oh, yeah. So we had the gender all the time. 00:57:10.000 --> 00:57:11.000 And we're already in an envelope. 00:57:12.000 --> 00:57:13.000 I'm just going to tell that now so that it comes up later. 00:57:14.000 --> 00:57:17.000 So we go in and then the doctor comes in. 00:57:18.000 --> 00:57:19.000 The doctor does his and this is a specialist. 00:57:20.000 --> 00:57:23.000 And, you know, when you see specialists, you're like you're already like your feet starts getting a little cold. 00:57:24.000 --> 00:57:27.000 And he takes a very like long and it was very dreadful. 00:57:28.000 --> 00:57:29.000 It was a dreadful like 45 minutes or so. 00:57:30.000 --> 00:57:35.000 And after that, he just looks at me and he's like, Don is also by my side. 00:57:35.000 --> 00:57:41.000 And he asks, Have you been diagnosed of a certain type of illness or disease? 00:57:42.000 --> 00:57:44.000 And have you been taking any medication for it? 00:57:45.000 --> 00:57:50.000 And I answer, No, I've never been diagnosed and I don't have any symptoms for it either. 00:57:51.000 --> 00:57:55.000 So he's like, In that case, we would have to monitor and investigate. 00:57:56.000 --> 00:58:00.000 Maybe you do have the disease or maybe like it's something else, but we need to investigate. 00:58:00.000 --> 00:58:09.000 Because what we're seeing is fetal arrhythmia, which is there are benign ones which can be sorted after a couple of like it just takes some time and the heart rate gets back to normal. 00:58:10.000 --> 00:58:12.000 But this one is very low heart rate. 00:58:13.000 --> 00:58:20.000 So a normal healthy baby should have a heart range of heart rate of around 110 to 160 beats per minute. 00:58:21.000 --> 00:58:22.000 But we're seeing only 70. 00:58:22.000 --> 00:58:23.000 And that was the first thing. 00:58:24.000 --> 00:58:29.000 And the second thing was like, he goes on to say that there's a second or a third degree block in his heart. 00:58:30.000 --> 00:58:35.000 And, you know, when you hear and it's not like it's not like his skin has a problem. 00:58:36.000 --> 00:58:38.000 It's one of the most vital organs in his body. 00:58:39.000 --> 00:58:43.000 And that really shattered me when and he just goes on to say things. 00:58:44.000 --> 00:58:45.000 And he just goes on to say things. 00:58:45.000 --> 00:58:46.000 And there was no hope. 00:58:47.000 --> 00:58:48.000 He didn't say anything. 00:58:48.000 --> 00:58:50.000 He didn't say anything like, OK, you know what? 00:58:50.000 --> 00:58:52.000 In a matter of time, things are going to get better. 00:58:52.000 --> 00:58:54.000 We've heard cases where it gets better. 00:58:54.000 --> 00:58:57.000 He said it's a second degree or a third degree block. 00:58:57.000 --> 00:59:07.000 Either you get on medication if you're diagnosed with the disease or you have to be closely monitored because the heart rate can drop to a point where there is no survival. 00:59:07.000 --> 00:59:12.000 Or even if the baby miraculously like survives, the baby would need a pace maker. 00:59:13.000 --> 00:59:16.000 So at that point, I doctor was saying these things. 00:59:16.000 --> 00:59:17.000 I'm sorry. 00:59:17.000 --> 00:59:18.000 I'm emotional. 00:59:18.000 --> 00:59:20.000 But the doctor was saying these things. 00:59:20.000 --> 00:59:27.000 And, you know, I could I couldn't I was like, you know, I could just hear some words and nothing was making sense to me. 00:59:27.000 --> 00:59:29.000 And I started like choking up. 00:59:29.000 --> 00:59:30.000 And I was like, I'm sorry. 00:59:30.000 --> 00:59:31.000 I'm sorry. 00:59:31.000 --> 00:59:32.000 I'm sorry. 00:59:32.000 --> 00:59:33.000 I'm sorry. 00:59:33.000 --> 00:59:34.000 I'm sorry. 00:59:34.000 --> 00:59:35.000 I'm sorry. 00:59:35.000 --> 00:59:38.000 And I started like choking up and just tearing up. 00:59:38.000 --> 00:59:44.000 But the doctor just started spitting out facts in his spitting out facts in his world. 00:59:44.000 --> 00:59:47.000 And Don is also really sad at this moment. 00:59:47.000 --> 00:59:51.000 And then the doctor is like, you know, you need to get tested immediately. 00:59:51.000 --> 00:59:55.000 And the doctor takes his I've never seen this happen anywhere else. 00:59:55.000 --> 00:59:59.000 But the doctor, the specialist doctor comes with us to the ground floor to the lab. 00:59:59.000 --> 01:00:00.000 And he starts doing these. 01:00:00.000 --> 01:00:05.000 He goes to the desk and he says, you know, she needs to be tested immediately. 01:00:05.000 --> 01:00:07.000 And there was a line up there. 01:00:07.000 --> 01:00:09.000 And one lady is like, you know, it's going to take forever. 01:00:09.000 --> 01:00:10.000 We've been waiting here forever. 01:00:10.000 --> 01:00:16.000 And this doctor in front of us tells us this is a matter of life or death. 01:00:16.000 --> 01:00:23.000 And so this doctor made statements that sounded like there was no hope. 01:00:23.000 --> 01:00:26.000 You know, it was either life or death. 01:00:26.000 --> 01:00:29.000 And we were now because there was no vacancy there. 01:00:29.000 --> 01:00:34.000 We were immediately shifted to Surrey Memorial Hospital and we had to go there in the night. 01:00:34.000 --> 01:00:38.000 And we called Jacob, we called our families and I in the car just started wailing. 01:00:38.000 --> 01:00:41.000 I was like, I saw this promise. 01:00:41.000 --> 01:00:45.000 I saw like people have spoken over my like our child. 01:00:45.000 --> 01:00:46.000 Why is this happening? 01:00:46.000 --> 01:00:49.000 And I didn't know how to I didn't know what to think. 01:00:49.000 --> 01:00:50.000 We were at Surrey Memorial. 01:00:50.000 --> 01:00:51.000 We did the test. 01:00:51.000 --> 01:00:55.000 We got back home and then we get on a call with Jacob and then Jacob tells, you know, 01:00:55.000 --> 01:00:57.000 this is the moment to have faith. 01:00:57.000 --> 01:01:00.000 And this is a moment where you need to practice your faith. 01:01:00.000 --> 01:01:03.000 And if you can know the gender, let me know what the gender is. 01:01:03.000 --> 01:01:09.000 So the gender was in an envelope and we were planning for it to be pretty glamorous, like, you know, balloons and stuff. 01:01:09.000 --> 01:01:12.000 And that night we were like, you know, we just need to know the gender right away. 01:01:12.000 --> 01:01:18.000 We just opened up Don Warrick Canucks jersey because it was blue, the only blue shirt that he could find. 01:01:18.000 --> 01:01:23.000 And we made a video and we just and we opened it and said it's a boy. 01:01:23.000 --> 01:01:30.000 And the moment we saw that it wasn't because it's not like I wanted to be a boy mom or anything, but it was more like this is what God showed us. 01:01:30.000 --> 01:01:33.000 And, you know, this is what we're going to cling on to. 01:01:33.000 --> 01:01:35.000 This promise is what we're going to cling on to. 01:01:35.000 --> 01:01:44.000 And we were there was some sort of strength encouragement that just swept our hearts that we were hopeful. 01:01:44.000 --> 01:01:46.000 We didn't care about what the doctor said. 01:01:46.000 --> 01:01:58.000 And for the next following weeks, I can't tell you that, you know, the kind of the kind of the manner in which we got to experience God and his presence was unlike any. 01:01:58.000 --> 01:02:15.000 And the way we drew scriptures from the back of like when we started in sixth grade or something, scriptures would come to our minds and encourages and the spirit would just empower us to go through this, to hold on to the promise that, you know, you are going to have a baby. 01:02:15.000 --> 01:02:22.000 He is going to become he is going to be healthy because there was a moment where I thought, Father, I just need the baby in my hands. 01:02:22.000 --> 01:02:24.000 It's OK if he comes with it. 01:02:24.000 --> 01:02:26.000 It's OK if he has to be attached to a pacemaker. 01:02:26.000 --> 01:02:28.000 But I just need him in my hands. 01:02:28.000 --> 01:02:31.000 From that point, God told me, you know what? 01:02:31.000 --> 01:02:33.000 I'm going to do much more than that. 01:02:33.000 --> 01:02:38.000 So I am Don and I are praying and we are hoping that, you know, things are going to change. 01:02:38.000 --> 01:02:42.000 But because I'm doing close monitoring every three days, I'm going in the same. 01:02:42.000 --> 01:02:44.000 It's again, it's a dreadful place to be. 01:02:44.000 --> 01:02:46.000 I'm I'm hoping, you know what? Women's Hospital in Vancouver and you need to be seeing a cardiologist. 01:03:00.000 --> 01:03:04.000 Again, we see this as a battle and we start battling it. 01:03:04.000 --> 01:03:12.000 We come to church and there are weeks that are weeks where, you know, the songs are about battle and victory. 01:03:12.000 --> 01:03:13.000 And we really cling on to it. 01:03:13.000 --> 01:03:24.000 And I've never told this to Anne, but Anne one one day in that one Sunday, she comes up to me and she says, while we're going through this, she says like your children will be beautiful. 01:03:24.000 --> 01:03:29.000 And I she's not really told me much ever before or after that even. 01:03:29.000 --> 01:03:33.000 But she comes and tells me that and, you know, things like that just gave me so much hope. 01:03:33.000 --> 01:03:42.000 And I we we knew that, you know, there is going to be a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not going to be this way. 01:03:42.000 --> 01:03:45.000 So now we go to the B.C. Women's Hospital. 01:03:45.000 --> 01:03:53.000 And that morning we woke up because we were we just immersed ourselves in scripture and prayer and worship. 01:03:53.000 --> 01:04:01.000 And, you know, we understood what how beautiful marriage is actually in those in that period because, you know, the times when I was low, Don would encourage me. 01:04:01.000 --> 01:04:04.000 And in times when dawn was low, I would encourage Don. 01:04:04.000 --> 01:04:08.000 And we really loved each other a lot more in that period. 01:04:08.000 --> 01:04:12.000 And we went to B.C. Women's Hospital with we both were like happy that day. 01:04:12.000 --> 01:04:16.000 That morning we woke up and we're like, you know, something's changed and we're happy. 01:04:16.000 --> 01:04:19.000 But this this is like three days before this appointment. 01:04:19.000 --> 01:04:27.000 We've already heard 70 averaging heart rate is at around 70 second degree, third degree heart block, fetal arrhythmia. 01:04:27.000 --> 01:04:29.000 Rhythm is problematic. Everything is wrong with the heart. 01:04:29.000 --> 01:04:32.000 Nothing good. We go into B.C. Women's Hospital. 01:04:32.000 --> 01:04:41.000 We do the initial test and scan and then the sonographer, she tells, oh, to my eyes, it looks fine. 01:04:41.000 --> 01:04:43.000 But you know what? I'm not the specialist. 01:04:43.000 --> 01:04:47.000 Let's go to the maternal like the specialist that comes in. 01:04:47.000 --> 01:04:49.000 He comes in and he does a checkup. 01:04:49.000 --> 01:04:56.000 And just so you know, it's been weeks now and we're hoping, OK, maybe this, you know, like it can get a little better. 01:04:56.000 --> 01:05:00.000 He says, I don't know why you're here. 01:05:00.000 --> 01:05:02.000 He says, I don't know why you're here. 01:05:02.000 --> 01:05:04.000 And he says, so we're so confused. 01:05:04.000 --> 01:05:07.000 Like, you should be you should be knowing better than us. 01:05:07.000 --> 01:05:14.000 And then he says, I don't see any issues with the heart, like absolutely no issues with the heart. 01:05:17.000 --> 01:05:21.000 And he goes on to say that the heart looks great. 01:05:21.000 --> 01:05:27.000 He says the heart looks great. And I asked him what and Don and I are just like confused and we're thankful. 01:05:27.000 --> 01:05:31.000 We're like, Don says, praise Jesus in front of this doctor. 01:05:31.000 --> 01:05:35.000 And when I asked him, OK, what's the heart rate? 01:05:35.000 --> 01:05:39.000 Because there were bigger problems. I'm, of course, relieved at all of that. 01:05:39.000 --> 01:05:43.000 But I wanted to know the heart rate because, you know, this number was really stuck in my head. 01:05:43.000 --> 01:05:45.000 And it was at 70. 01:05:45.000 --> 01:05:47.000 Three days before it was at 70. 01:05:47.000 --> 01:05:53.000 He says the heart rate is now at 140, exactly double of what was initially told to us. 01:05:53.000 --> 01:05:56.000 And this wasn't an improvement of sorts. 01:05:56.000 --> 01:06:00.000 This wasn't, you know, a slight something that, you know, slightly got better. 01:06:00.000 --> 01:06:03.000 This was as healthy as healthy a heart could be. 01:06:03.000 --> 01:06:06.000 And we walk out of we walked out of this room. 01:06:06.000 --> 01:06:08.000 The doctor said, oh, you need to know. 01:06:08.000 --> 01:06:11.000 Let me check if the cardiologist has to do anything. 01:06:11.000 --> 01:06:16.000 He takes the reports to the cardiologist and he comes back saying there's nothing the cardiologist should do about this. 01:06:16.000 --> 01:06:19.000 Like what it's just going to waste their time. 01:06:19.000 --> 01:06:24.000 We walk out of that room. They say that, you know, we still need to because we saw this irregularity. 01:06:24.000 --> 01:06:27.000 You need to still be checked the following weeks. 01:06:27.000 --> 01:06:35.000 But we walk out of that room with complete confidence and complete knowledge that the victory was ours. 01:06:35.000 --> 01:06:38.000 And this wasn't something that we need to strive for. 01:06:38.000 --> 01:06:44.000 This wasn't something that we need to be needed to be worried about, but that the victory was ours and the victory was the Lord's. 01:06:44.000 --> 01:06:49.000 And we had to go in continuously for a period again. 01:06:49.000 --> 01:06:53.000 Every checkup that we went to, the heart looks great. 01:06:53.000 --> 01:06:55.000 The heart looks great. The heart looks great. 01:06:55.000 --> 01:07:04.000 And it got to a point where our final visit, there was a student doctor who said that there was a student doctor with him and the doctor. 01:07:04.000 --> 01:07:09.000 The student doctor asks the training doctor. 01:07:09.000 --> 01:07:15.000 So what's the reason behind, you know, this just disappearing, like the problem just resolving like this? 01:07:15.000 --> 01:07:19.000 So the doctor says, you know, experts have no clue on why this happened. 01:07:19.000 --> 01:07:22.000 And we have no idea why this has happened, how it was also quickly. 01:07:22.000 --> 01:07:24.000 We have no clue. He stopped there. 01:07:24.000 --> 01:07:29.000 And then they go on to say, you know, this is such a beautiful anatomy of the heart. 01:07:30.000 --> 01:07:33.000 So it wasn't just a heart that was functioning. 01:07:33.000 --> 01:07:35.000 It was a beautiful heart. 01:07:35.000 --> 01:07:41.000 And we knew that the enemy tried to attack us at the core of who he is, the heart. 01:07:41.000 --> 01:07:44.000 And even like David is a man after God's own heart. 01:07:44.000 --> 01:07:46.000 And it wasn't the brain. It wasn't the kidney.
