it the right way and at the right distance? 00:00:18.320 --> 00:00:22.600 Just one sec guys, we've got to measure this. 00:00:22.600 --> 00:00:35.680 So this came up when Chad was praying and he talked about us being so moved, so directed 00:00:35.680 --> 00:00:38.120 by the glory of God and nothing else. 00:00:38.120 --> 00:00:43.120 And so if you want a title for what we're going to talk about today and perhaps for 00:00:43.120 --> 00:00:48.640 at least another week, it's disruptive glory, disruptive glory. 00:00:48.640 --> 00:00:52.240 That's the title, disruptive glory. 00:00:52.400 --> 00:01:00.960 Because when Chad was praying at the end he said, oh God, may we be so caught up in bringing 00:01:00.960 --> 00:01:08.080 you glory just like it used to be in the days of old when your glory alone was sufficient 00:01:08.080 --> 00:01:13.520 and Moses would not be able to minister, the priests would not be able to minister and 00:01:13.520 --> 00:01:16.840 disrupt our lives with your glory. 00:01:16.840 --> 00:01:22.680 And so felt that one of the things we should talk about is disruptive glory. 00:01:22.680 --> 00:01:27.520 Disruptive, disruptive glory. 00:01:27.520 --> glory has three main components. 00:01:41.960 --> 00:01:45.280 Glory has three main parts. 00:01:45.280 --> 00:01:48.320 Glory has three main parts and so here goes. 00:01:48.320 --> 00:01:52.560 The first part, if you look at the Old Testament and the New Testament you'll find that glory 00:01:52.560 --> 00:01:55.840 can be divided into these three main parts. 00:01:55.840 --> 00:02:00.640 The first part is the dazzling brightness or splendor of God. 00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:05.840 The dazzling brightness or splendor of God. 00:02:05.840 --> 00:02:13.080 The dazzling brightness or splendor of God is often referred to as glory in the New Testament 00:02:13.080 --> 00:02:14.080 and the Old Testament. 00:02:14.160 --> 00:02:25.040 So you read passages like Exodus 19, verse 16 to 19 and you see that God came in amazing 00:02:25.040 --> 00:02:26.040 glory. 00:02:26.040 --> 00:02:27.040 So let's read these passages. 00:02:27.040 --> 00:02:28.880 There's a lot of reading to do today. 00:02:28.880 --> 00:02:32.680 Exodus 19, 16 to 19. 00:02:32.680 --> 00:02:42.600 It says that on the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning with a thick 00:02:42.680 --> 00:02:45.880 cloud over the mountain and a very loud trumpet blast. 00:02:45.880 --> 00:02:48.000 Everyone in the camp trembled. 00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:51.640 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God and they stood at the foot 00:02:51.640 --> 00:02:52.640 of the mountain. 00:02:52.640 --> 00:02:57.760 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord descended on it in fire. 00:02:57.760 --> 00:03:00.820 The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace. 00:03:00.820 --> 00:03:06.040 The whole mountain trembled violently and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. 00:03:06.040 --> 00:03:08.480 Then Moses spoke and the voice of God answered. 00:03:08.480 --> 00:03:14.040 So there is that part of God's glory which is dazzling brightness and splendor. 00:03:14.040 --> 00:03:19.840 Then there is glory that is His great power and strength. 00:03:19.840 --> 00:03:24.420 His great power and strength. 00:03:24.420 --> 00:03:28.000 His great power and strength. 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:39.300 And you find that in passages like Psalm 105 verse 27 to 45 where it talks about how God 00:03:39.300 --> 00:03:50.200 led Israel out of Egypt with displays of strength and power where it became the reason why Yahweh 00:03:50.200 --> 00:03:56.000 was given much glory not just by Israel but by the Egyptians who released them to go and 00:03:56.000 --> 00:04:03.560 by neighboring nations that kept a healthy distance because He delivered them by an outstretched 00:04:03.560 --> 00:04:07.920 arm and a mighty hand or a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. 00:04:07.920 --> 00:04:13.240 And so there is this aspect of glory that is attributed to His great power and strength. 00:04:13.240 --> 00:04:18.580 And then the third part is majesty and honor. 00:04:18.580 --> 00:04:21.020 Majesty and honor. 00:04:21.020 --> 00:04:26.220 Majesty and honor. 00:04:26.220 --> 00:04:27.220 Majesty and honor. 00:04:27.220 --> 00:04:32.620 And that's what you read in scriptures like Isaiah 6, 1-6. 00:04:32.620 --> 00:04:41.180 Isaiah 6, 1-6 is another scripture where you see that where I saw the king seated on his 00:04:41.180 --> 00:04:47.300 throne, the train of his robe filled the temple and that is the idea of majesty and honor. 00:04:47.300 --> 00:04:53.340 Very often what happens is in us as Christians there is a soulish hunger after the first 00:04:53.340 --> 00:05:00.960 one the dazzling brightness and splendor and in our soulish hunger for brightness and splendor 00:05:00.960 --> 00:05:08.020 and dazzle we forget that there are two aspects besides that to God's glory and so we miss 00:05:08.020 --> 00:05:11.500 out on this in our pursuit of this. 00:05:11.660 --> 00:05:20.940 And I'd say all three apply and we should hold them all together, not separate them. 00:05:20.940 --> 00:05:26.700 So disruptive glory, what disruptive glory does is disruptive glory and why call it disruptive 00:05:26.700 --> 00:05:27.700 glory? 00:05:27.700 --> 00:05:29.060 Why not just call it glory? 00:05:29.060 --> 00:05:39.380 I call it disruptive glory because disruptive glory draws a distinction, draws a distinction 00:05:39.380 --> 00:05:47.180 between the one true God, between the one true God and all else. 00:05:47.180 --> 00:05:51.280 The one true God and all else. 00:05:51.280 --> 00:05:59.740 He disrupts what is normal and he makes it very obvious that he alone is God and nobody 00:05:59.740 --> 00:06:00.740 else is. 00:06:00.740 --> 00:06:06.220 And you see this in the Old Testament and the New Testament where you see God being 00:06:06.220 --> 00:06:13.940 disruptive when he brings forth his glory in Egypt and through the ten plagues makes 00:06:13.940 --> 00:06:22.340 Ra and every other Egyptian God bow down and all the Egyptians acknowledge that Israel's 00:06:22.340 --> 00:06:25.100 God is God alone. 00:06:25.100 --> 00:06:30.500 You take the journey through the wilderness and you come to Sinai and you see that this 00:06:30.500 --> 00:06:36.940 God is called the dread of Jacob and the nations around fear him for he can do mighty 00:06:36.940 --> 00:06:43.260 things like opening the Red Sea and completely drowning Pharaoh and his army bringing to 00:06:43.260 --> 00:06:49.260 their knees one of the mightiest empires that existed in the world at that time. 00:06:49.260 --> 00:06:56.560 You look at Carmel and you see Elijah and the prophets of Baal, 850 of them and there's 00:06:56.560 --> 00:07:04.220 a disruptive glory that appears in the form of fire falling from heaven and it creates 00:07:04.220 --> 00:07:09.880 a distinction between who is Yahweh and who is Baal and it's settled once forever bringing 00:07:09.880 --> 00:07:15.760 a nation that had slipped into apostasy back into worshipping the true God. 00:07:15.760 --> 00:07:22.440 You go to Matthew 17 and you climb up with Peter, James and John to the Mount of Transfiguration 00:07:22.680 --> 00:07:28.400 and you see a revelation of who Christ is in his glory and once again there is a distinction 00:07:28.400 --> 00:07:34.400 where this is no ordinary man, this is the son of God himself and Elijah and Moses come 00:07:34.400 --> 00:07:39.160 and begin to talk with him and there is a voice from heaven saying this is my son like 00:07:39.160 --> 00:07:41.240 no other. 00:07:41.240 --> 00:07:47.360 Disruptive glory when a church gets a hang of it is the kind of glory that makes it obvious 00:07:47.360 --> 00:07:50.520 that their God is God alone. 00:07:50.520 --> 00:07:56.300 So much so that in 1 Peter 1, 18 or 2 Peter 1, 18 actually Peter is saying that listen 00:07:56.300 --> 00:08:01.220 we are not spinning fables and telling you stories, we are telling you what our eyes 00:08:01.220 --> 00:08:07.800 beheld on that mountain and when we heard from on high from the majesty we heard that 00:08:07.800 --> 00:08:13.560 this son of mine is my begotten and my beloved, listen to him. 00:08:13.640 --> 00:08:20.160 Then you go to Revelation 1 and John is on Patmos and you see once again the glory of 00:08:20.160 --> 00:08:26.560 the risen Christ being revealed in Revelation 1 where he appears his eyes blazing like fire, 00:08:26.560 --> 00:08:33.200 his feet burning brass, his voice like mighty waterfall, no other, no other is able to stand 00:08:33.200 --> 00:08:34.200 up against him. 00:08:34.200 --> 00:08:38.520 You go to Revelation 4 and the heavens are open and you hear Jesus saying come up higher 00:08:38.720 --> 00:08:44.720 and as John begins to see he sees a scene from heaven where elders and angels fall before 00:08:44.720 --> 00:08:50.200 the one who is risen and who alone is God and his glory is like a thousand different 00:08:50.200 --> 00:08:57.560 gems with rainbow and in all hues and colors and below his feet is a sapphire glass like 00:08:57.560 --> 00:09:02.520 surface and they bow before him and they begin to worship very naturally because what else 00:09:02.520 --> 00:09:07.560 can you say when you behold the one true God you end up saying yours is the kingdom, yours 00:09:07.560 --> 00:09:12.040 is the power, yours is the majesty, yours is the honor and this is what Chad was talking 00:09:12.040 --> 00:09:18.720 about when he prayed on Christmas Eve saying oh God we want to walk in this glory so that 00:09:18.720 --> 00:09:26.480 we may give you the honor and majesty because when people see what God can be through us 00:09:26.480 --> 00:09:29.880 honor and majesty is given back to him. 00:09:30.400 --> 00:09:40.400 The thing is guys why is it that we don't experience this or haven't experienced it 00:09:40.400 --> 00:09:50.400 like we should and it's a horrible truth that I'm going to tell you that we cannot live 00:09:50.400 --> 00:09:52.800 this year right? 00:09:52.800 --> 00:09:59.600 At least I don't plan to live this year with this next statement that I'm going to make. 00:09:59.600 --> 00:10:11.280 The reason we don't experience this kind of glory is because we try to accommodate 00:10:11.280 --> 00:10:18.160 his glory. 00:10:18.160 --> 00:10:21.800 We try to accommodate his glory. 00:10:21.800 --> 00:10:23.240 We try to accommodate his glory. 00:10:23.240 --> 00:10:27.940 It's like okay we got a service, we got our lives, we got the way we need to do church, 00:10:27.980 --> 00:10:32.940 we got to do our business this way, we got to run our family this way, we like the idea 00:10:32.940 --> 00:10:37.820 of your glory, we will make room for it, we will accommodate your glory. 00:10:37.820 --> 00:10:42.460 Here's the thing about God's glory, you cannot accommodate his glory, you can only be foolish 00:10:42.460 --> 00:10:44.420 and surrender to it. 00:10:44.420 --> 00:10:46.820 You cannot accommodate his glory. 00:10:46.820 --> 00:10:50.820 There is no worship service that can accommodate his glory. 00:10:50.820 --> 00:10:58.060 You can only be foolish and surrender to it and this church throughout this year will 00:10:58.060 --> 00:11:01.580 be foolish and surrender to the glory of God. 00:11:01.580 --> 00:11:03.560 We will do nothing to accommodate it. 00:11:03.560 --> 00:11:07.700 We will not give him half an hour, we will not give him one hour, we will not give him 00:11:07.700 --> 00:11:13.580 ten minutes, we will not cause things to change they carry the ark, make 00:12:28.080 --> 00:12:33.320 sure there's a 2000 feet distance between you and the ark because you haven't gone this 00:12:33.320 --> 00:12:36.320 way before so keep sufficient distance. 00:12:36.320 --> 00:12:40.920 Watch where the ark is going as they carry it, as I direct them, watch where it's going 00:12:40.920 --> 00:12:43.840 and keep a distance. 00:13:45.100 Another word used in the Bible, I can't get away from the simple statement that the reason 00:13:45.100 --> 00:13:49.360 we do not experience his glory is because we are always trying to 00:15:36.400 it Kabod Adonai. 00:15:36.400 --> 00:15:38.840 Kabod is glory, Adonai is Lord. 00:15:38.840 --> 00:15:43.560 Kabod Adonai and when it comes to the New Testament it talks about Doxa. 00:15:43.560 --> 00:15:46.840 Doxa meaning glory and Kurian meaning Lord. 00:15:46.840 --> 00:15:50.920 My brother-in-law will be very excited that the glory of the Lord means Doxa Kurian because 00:15:50.920 --> 00:15:52.200 his last name is Kurian. 00:15:52.200 --> 00:16:00.600 Anyways Doxa Kurian is the glory of the Lord and the strange thing is Shekinah, the first 00:16:00.600 --> 00:16:04.560 instance of it is in Genesis chapter 3 verse 23. 00:16:04.560 --> 00:16:09.680 Genesis 3, 23. 00:16:09.680 --> 00:16:16.120 Genesis chapter 3 verse 23 and it says that, 00:16:16.120 --> 00:16:34.400 We have always assumed that he placed there an angel with a sword. 00:16:34.400 --> 00:16:35.480 That's not true. 00:16:35.480 --> 00:16:41.640 What it is saying there is that at the entrance was an angel, a cherubim, who's almost, cherubims 00:16:41.640 --> 00:16:45.240 are almost always associated with the glory of God. 00:16:45.240 --> 00:16:49.120 You'll see it in Ezekiel, you'll see it in Isaiah, cherubim, wherever cherubim appear 00:16:49.120 --> 00:16:52.120 you know there is the glory of God. 00:16:52.120 --> 00:16:56.240 But it is that there was an angel there and there was a flaming sword and that is the 00:16:56.240 --> 00:17:03.640 first time you get an idea of the Shekinah as in the dazzling blazing brilliance of God 00:17:03.640 --> 00:17:07.880 that cannot be gone past unless he allows it. 00:17:07.880 --> 00:17:12.720 It starts with this idea of a flaming sword and if you go to Genesis 15, 17 and someone 00:17:12.760 --> 00:17:18.440 was reading from Genesis 15 today, Genesis 15, 17 you see another instance of God's glory 00:17:18.440 --> 00:17:23.440 and this time it was to establish a covenant and you read that when the sun had set and 00:17:23.440 --> 00:17:28.560 darkness had fallen a smoking fire pot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between 00:17:28.560 --> 00:17:29.560 the pieces. 00:17:29.560 --> 00:17:32.640 The idea of a flaming torch once again the Shekinah. 00:17:32.640 --> 00:17:34.720 What does Shekinah really mean? 00:17:34.720 --> 00:17:37.240 Shekinah means the one who dwells. 00:17:37.240 --> 00:17:40.080 Isn't that such a beautiful term man? 00:17:40.080 --> 00:17:45.240 When you think of Shekinah you're saying Shekinah basically means the one who dwells, 00:17:45.240 --> 00:17:49.320 the one who dwells, the one who dwells. 00:17:49.320 --> 00:17:56.440 You can see why in Deuteronomy 25, if you go to Deuteronomy 25, Deuteronomy 25 verse 00:17:56.440 --> 00:18:04.000 8 and 9, Deuteronomy 25 verse 8 and 9. 00:18:04.000 --> 00:18:18.080 When the elders of this town shall, Deuteronomy 25 verse 8, no I got it wrong, maybe it's 00:18:18.080 --> 00:18:40.680 Exodus 25, Exodus 25, Exodus 25, 8 and 9. 00:18:40.680 --> 00:18:45.800 Then have them make a sanctuary for me and I will dwell among them. 00:18:45.880 --> 00:18:50.520 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I showed you. 00:18:50.520 --> 00:19:02.720 It is this idea, Shekinah is the idea of the one who dwells and in Exodus 25 verse 8 and 00:19:02.720 --> 00:19:04.880 9 God says two things. 00:19:04.960 --> 00:19:14.720 One, listen, I want to dwell and two, make me a tabernacle. 00:19:14.720 --> 00:19:17.000 Make me a tabernacle. 00:19:17.000 --> 00:19:21.680 Out of these two words comes the idea of Shekinah. 00:19:21.680 --> 00:19:25.080 One who dwells and make me a tabernacle. 00:19:25.080 --> 00:19:28.880 One who dwells comes from a word called, it doesn't matter, we don't need to learn Hebrew 00:19:28.880 --> 00:19:32.140 because I don't know Hebrew anyways, I'd be quoting someone else. 00:19:32.460 --> 00:19:38.420 The idea of Shekinah is the one who dwells as in I want to dwell with you and two, can 00:19:38.420 --> 00:19:39.580 you make me a tabernacle. 00:19:39.580 --> 00:19:40.580 Why is this important? 00:19:40.580 --> 00:19:43.780 Because John 1.14, remember what it says? 00:19:43.780 --> 00:19:50.820 John 1.14 says, the word became flesh and tabernacled or dwelt among us and we beheld 00:19:50.820 --> 00:19:52.700 his glory. 00:19:52.700 --> 00:20:01.860 John 1.14 says, the word became flesh and tabernacled or dwelt among us and we beheld 00:20:01.860 --> 00:20:03.180 his glory. 00:20:03.180 --> 00:20:09.900 This idea of Shekinah has been so ancient and something so desirous in the heart of 00:20:09.900 --> 00:20:13.380 God that he was setting it up right from the beginning. 00:20:13.380 --> 00:20:20.620 Initially he made this beautiful tabernacle called the earth and then placed man in it 00:20:20.620 --> 00:20:22.720 and began to walk around with man. 00:20:22.720 --> 00:20:28.020 Then he sets up a tent of meeting in the desert and he begins to occupy it. 00:20:28.020 --> 00:20:37.460 Then he turns up as God himself in Jesus Christ and you have the word becoming flesh 00:20:37.460 --> 00:20:42.180 and dwelling or tabernacling and we beheld his glory, John 1.14. 00:20:42.180 --> 00:20:47.160 And then it takes it to the next step where the indwelling of the spirit makes us a temple 00:20:47.160 --> 00:20:48.780 of the indwelling Christ. 00:20:48.780 --> 00:20:52.420 The indwelling of the spirit makes us a temple of the indwelling Christ. 00:20:52.420 --> 00:20:56.100 And now where does the Shekinah glory live? 00:20:56.100 --> 00:20:57.260 In me. 00:20:57.260 --> 00:21:03.940 The same wind and fire that you saw on Mount Sinai, you see that same wind and fire on 00:21:03.940 --> 00:21:08.180 Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. 00:21:08.180 --> 00:21:13.260 And the same wind and fire that caused God to arrive upon Mount Sinai is the same wind 00:21:13.260 --> 00:21:17.500 and fire that accompanies the arrival of the spirit in Acts chapter 2 verse 2. 00:21:17.500 --> 00:21:24.420 And now God indwells a new temple, a new temple that Paul then says is a mystery that has 00:21:24.500 --> 00:21:29.300 been hidden for
