The topic today is why are we chosen? Chosen, 00:02:01.640 --> 00:02:25.640 why? Chosen, why? So the topic is chosen, why? Oh, Don is offended that I didn't mention 00:02:25.640 --> 00:02:38.640 his baby. So hello to Don's baby too. I mentioned Don but I didn't mention his baby. Okay. Yes, 00:02:38.640 --> 00:02:45.640 this is true. So 1 Peter 2, 9. So what we are talking about today is, okay, so if we 00:02:45.640 --> 00:02:51.640 are chosen, why are we chosen? Why are we chosen? Any stories before I start? Remy, 00:02:51.640 --> 00:02:55.640 you have any stories to share? You want to tell us about anything that God has done in 00:02:55.640 --> 00:03:22.640 your life? Sure, come. You have 3 minutes 43 seconds. 3 minutes 43 seconds. Okay. Yeah, 00:03:22.640 --> 00:03:32.640 the last few months has been a season of trying for our family. And God taught me 00:03:32.640 --> 00:03:41.640 and my family how to just be fully dependent on him. And literally just we have never 00:03:41.640 --> 00:03:50.640 experienced lack like this before. But in the midst of it, what we found was that just 00:03:50.640 --> 00:03:58.640 this new ways of discovering God all over again that it doesn't matter whether we have 00:03:58.640 --> 00:04:05.640 resources or no resources financially or not, but just realizing that because he is with 00:04:05.640 --> 00:04:13.640 us, we have everything. Just to put things into perspective, I have been without a job 00:04:13.640 --> 00:04:22.640 for over a year and a half almost. And during this season, God showed us few things in terms 00:04:22.640 --> 00:04:28.640 of what we are supposed to become, in terms of our identity, in terms of what God is calling 00:04:28.640 --> 00:04:36.640 us as a family. And so that was such a beautiful season for us to discover. And at the same 00:04:36.640 --> 00:04:44.640 time, he took us on a journey to just build character. And it was not easy because in the flesh, 00:04:44.640 --> 00:04:52.640 we are so resistant, right? And I had to go through that for a few months. But he is so 00:04:52.640 --> 00:04:57.640 faithful that when we are persistent, he is so faithful. And one of the things that I really 00:04:57.640 --> 00:05:07.640 treasure a lot is that when we surround ourselves with people who are walking in the spirit better 00:05:07.640 --> 00:05:16.640 than us, we gain strength through them. And that was such a difference maker that people around me 00:05:16.640 --> 00:05:23.640 helped our family just to stand tall and not be shaken, constantly reminding us of God's faithfulness 00:05:23.640 --> 00:05:34.640 and promises. Yeah. And so when we prayed about this year, he said it was going to be a year of 00:05:34.640 --> 00:05:43.640 restoration. And so we are expecting that things are going to fall in place. And he did. So things in 00:05:43.640 --> 00:05:52.640 perspective is I have been trying to get back into the workforce to have steady income again. 00:05:52.640 --> 00:06:06.640 And things are not opening up despite listening to him, trying to hear him and obey him. But every step of 00:06:06.640 --> 00:06:16.640 the way, he gave us promise or a word of encouragement just to endure and that it's coming. And so this year, 00:06:16.640 --> 00:06:28.640 he opened doors that we never expected. Actually, I'm starting a job tomorrow. Thank you. Yeah. And this job 00:06:28.640 --> 00:06:36.640 just fell on my lap. I was not looking for it, but it just fell on my lap. But he is such a good God that 00:06:36.640 --> 00:06:44.640 all the months of uncertainties, now when I look back in hindsight, it was a journey that I needed to go. And 00:06:44.640 --> 00:06:52.640 we needed to go as a family, right? And even to tell our kids why we went through those things and 00:06:52.640 --> 00:06:58.640 including them as part of the journey. And they learning that, okay, God said to my dad a certain way and 00:06:58.640 --> 00:07:08.640 that's why we are in this position. So overall, just God's goodness just overflowing. And the best thing is, 00:07:08.640 --> 00:07:18.640 you know, I'll be very honest, we sing this song that even when we don't feel it or even when we don't see it, 00:07:18.640 --> 00:07:26.640 that he's working, right? That song, Waymaker, we sing that a lot. And that song, the meaning of that song really, 00:07:26.640 --> 00:07:38.640 how do I say? It really came full circle because all these months, he was working behind the scenes to just set up 00:07:38.640 --> 00:07:45.640 this for me. Like this company that I'm joining, they are an American company that have been in the business for the last 00:07:45.640 --> 00:07:52.640 15 years, but they started their operation in Canada just last year. And I'm the first sales hire in this company, 00:07:52.640 --> 00:08:02.640 right? So just can't imagine how he opened doors like that. And he even gave me options to choose. So thank you for... 00:08:02.640 --> 00:08:12.640 Praise God, I mean, you and your family stood strong and you were faithful. So praise God, yeah? Well done. I just want to testify to God's faithfulness in us being basically moved on without our choice from the house that we're in right now 00:08:50.640 --> 00:08:59.640 because it got sold and we're renting. And considerable anxiety and angst, especially on my part, about what are we going to do, 00:08:59.640 --> 00:09:09.640 where are we going to go? All the houses we're looking at are not nice. And then this one house came along that's better than any house we've lived in 00:09:09.640 --> 00:09:21.640 before in terms of just how nice it is. And it was on the market beginning of January and we didn't look at it until January 22nd. 00:09:21.640 --> 00:09:34.640 And given the price and how nice it was and the areas and it should have been gone. And so I believe that Father held that house for us until we found it, until he directed us to it. 00:09:34.640 --> 00:09:50.640 And now everything remains to be done is to purge all the junk that we have. And I'm feeling like the Lord is leading us into a new stage in our lives 00:09:50.640 --> 00:10:04.640 where we're a lot less encumbered by things around us, a lot less encumbered by space, the big yard to maintain. And it's a very small yard. And so I'm just feeling really blessed. 00:10:04.640 --> 00:10:18.640 I'm feeling really high right now. It's just a wonderful high. Doesn't happen very often with me, but it's great. 00:10:18.640 --> 00:10:24.640 That explains why the playing has improved to me, doesn't it? 00:10:24.640 --> 00:10:35.640 Let's just pray for Anne and Kamal. They are heading off to Sri Lanka on Tuesday. And how many remember, how many know someone called Dagmar? 00:10:35.640 --> 00:10:45.640 Oh my God, quite a few except the first row. Where were you guys? Dagmar is Anne's mom. She'll be turning 95. 00:10:45.640 --> 00:10:56.640 So let's just pray for them as they go. Father, thank you for Kamal and Anne. Dagmar was the one who used to make the things that we just ate. 00:10:56.640 --> 00:11:12.640 And boy, for years she used to feed this church. And as Anne and Kamal go now, Father, we just pray such protection upon them that going and coming will be without a cold or sniff. 00:11:12.640 --> 00:11:22.640 Any headache, any ache or pain, none. So if you go to 1 Peter 2.9, and I'll read it from the Passion Translation. 00:11:54.640 --> 00:12:06.640 Before I read things from the Passion Translation, I usually compare it to other versions so that what we are reading is not outlandish or is not too different from what most of the other versions say. 00:12:06.640 --> 00:12:10.640 And that's why I'm reading it from the Passion Translation, because it explains it a little better. 00:12:10.640 --> 00:12:23.640 But you are God's chosen treasure, priests who are kings, a spiritual nation set apart as God's devoted ones. 00:12:23.640 --> 00:12:32.640 He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light. And now he claims you as his very own. 00:12:33.640 --> 00:12:40.640 He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world. 00:12:40.640 --> 00:12:51.640 For at one time you were not God's people, but now you are. At one time you knew nothing of God's mercy because you hadn't received it yet. 00:12:51.640 --> 00:12:59.640 But now you're drenched with it. Okay? So I'm just going to go over why we are chosen. 00:12:59.640 --> 00:13:09.640 If we are chosen, why did God choose us? And the first one is for his glory. For his glory. 00:13:09.640 --> 00:13:14.640 And I pray that we remember these reasons to our being chosen. 00:13:14.640 --> 00:13:19.640 Christianity sometimes reduces being chosen to going to heaven. 00:13:19.640 --> 00:13:31.640 And that's a very poor religion, if that's the reason. It's a great reward, but it's a poor religion, if that's why. 00:13:31.640 --> 00:13:39.640 So for his glory, the first intent is for his glory. Why was I chosen? Why were you chosen? 00:13:39.640 --> 00:13:49.640 Why was I chosen? For his glory, as in to show forth his praise. 00:13:49.640 --> 00:14:00.640 As in when people see my life, when people approach me, when people engage with me, I'm supposed to show forth things that will bring him praise. 00:14:00.640 --> 00:14:10.640 Show forth things that will bring him, or behave in a way that will bring him praise. 00:14:10.640 --> 00:14:20.640 In 1 Corinthians 10.31, Paul says, whatever you do, do it for his glory. 00:14:20.640 --> 00:14:33.640 And the way he says do it for his glory is, can you heartily and freely do things for his glory? 00:14:33.640 --> 00:14:41.640 A little later we'll talk about this idea of heartily and freely. 00:14:41.640 --> 00:14:48.640 And one of the expressions of heartily, freely done things is joy. 00:14:48.640 --> 00:14:53.640 And it's so critical to who God is. So critical. 00:14:53.640 --> 00:15:03.640 And the question that I ask myself, and you ask yourself is, is joy really a super important core essence of your being? 00:15:03.640 --> 00:15:08.640 Especially when you're on your own, when we don't see you in church. 00:15:08.640 --> 00:15:16.640 Is joy something that I'll get scoops off if I put my hand into your heart? 00:15:16.640 --> 00:15:24.640 In Jeremiah 13, verse 11, and we read this last week. 00:15:24.640 --> 00:15:35.640 In Jeremiah 13, 11, it says, as a loincloth clings to a man's waist, so I created Judah and Israel to cling to me, says the Lord. 00:15:35.640 --> 00:15:41.640 This idea of glory is not devoid from God. It is completely attached to God. 00:15:41.640 --> 00:15:46.640 It's only in my proximity to God that I begin to reflect glory. 00:15:46.640 --> 00:15:51.640 It's like the sun and the moon and the planets. They don't have a light of their own. 00:15:51.640 --> 00:15:59.640 The light comes from another source. And so the idea is, like it says in Jeremiah 13, 11, 00:15:59.640 --> 00:16:11.640 God is comparing Israel and Judah to some versions say belt, but some versions say, as a loincloth clings to a man's waist, 00:16:11.640 --> 00:16:15.640 so I created Judah and Israel to cling to me, says the Lord. 00:16:15.640 --> 00:16:29.640 If there were to be my people, these were the words he used, my people, my pride, my glory, 00:16:29.640 --> 00:16:52.640 an honor to my name, so that I could show them off, so that I could show them off to the world. 00:16:52.640 --> 00:17:01.640 This was God's intent, and then the next line is quite sad. It says, but they refused. 00:17:01.640 --> 00:17:13.640 This is what it means to be chosen. One of the reasons we are chosen is so that we can be his people, his pride, his glory, 00:17:13.640 --> 00:17:26.640 an honor to his name, so that he can show us off to the world and be proud. 00:17:26.640 --> 00:17:34.640 One of the struggles my mom used to have is she would often think that if she praised me, that it would go to my head. 00:17:34.640 --> 00:17:43.640 I don't know why. And that it would go to my head, and that I would become proud, and then I would fall. 00:17:43.640 --> 00:17:52.640 So I remember once driving down 9th Street and having this really explosive conversation with her, 00:17:52.640 --> 00:17:59.640 where I said for years, and I was over 50 then, and I remember saying to her, 00:17:59.640 --> 00:18:09.640 for years I've never heard you say a word that praises me. Never. I said, you always underplay it. 00:18:09.640 --> 00:18:13.640 I mean, the rest of the world will say good things about me, but you won't. 00:18:13.640 --> 00:18:18.640 And so I said, why? Why can't you? Then it slowly came out why. 00:18:18.640 --> 00:18:26.640 But after that, my godman, she would tell me how proud she was of me, because I assured her that it won't go to my head. 00:18:26.640 --> 00:18:32.640 And from then on, she would take every opportunity to tell me, and every authentic opportunity, 00:18:32.640 --> 00:18:39.640 she wouldn't just say it because I preached. It would be like, that was good kind of a thing. 00:18:39.640 --> 00:18:45.640 And my mom wanted to. She wanted to say, I was proud of you when you did that. 00:18:45.640 --> 00:18:54.640 But for 50 odd years she didn't. And surprisingly at 50, I'm getting angry and upset that I missed out on it. 00:18:54.640 --> 00:18:58.640 It is strange how we kids behave, eh? 00:18:58.640 --> 00:19:06.640 And so, god desires and god won't hold back on compliments. He never holds back on compliments. 00:19:06.640 --> 00:19:14.640 The trick though is, do not rest in his compliment, because his compliment also sets you up for, 00:19:14.640 --> 00:19:17.640 but can we deal with this, this, and this? 00:19:17.640 --> 00:19:24.640 One of the things that I used to do very often is, when things would go wrong, my thing would be, okay, things are going wrong. 00:19:24.640 --> 00:19:29.640 Let me get god's perspective on it. And I'd get god's perspective on it, but I'd get the god's, 00:19:29.640 --> 00:19:37.640 I'd write down all the good perspectives of god, but I wouldn't concentrate on all the other things he's saying. 00:19:37.640 --> 00:19:40.640 There are a lot of things that need to be worked in my life. 00:19:40.640 --> 00:19:44.640 God has the ability to balance kindness with correction. 00:19:44.640 --> 00:19:49.640 And if I only take kindness, I spend my entire life without correction. 00:19:49.640 --> 00:19:54.640 I've got to take both. And where do you think correction comes from? 00:19:54.640 --> 00:19:59.640 Rarely from god, because he knows we can't hear it, it comes from people. 00:19:59.640 --> 00:20:03.640 Sela. 00:20:03.640 --> 00:20:08.640 That's why it sucks. That's why I prefer compliments from god. 00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:17.640 So, this is why we were chosen. This is why you were chosen. 00:20:17.640 --> 00:20:22.640 This is why Remy was chosen. This is why Michael Barnes was chosen. 00:20:22.640 --> 00:20:28.640 This is why Anilay was chosen. 00:20:28.640 --> 00:20:35.640 Somehow in my head, I must understand that I am chosen only for one reason, to glorify him. 00:20:35.640 --> 00:20:44.640 Words like glorify aren't used in English today, so it's a very archaic word, but it's critical to the Bible. 00:20:44.640 --> 00:20:49.640 I was chosen to glorify him. What does it mean to glorify him? 00:20:49.640 --> 00:20:54.640 To telescope things that he is. To telescope things that he is. 00:20:54.640 --> 00:21:02.640 To make those things appear big on a screen for people. That's what glorify means. 00:21:02.640 --> 00:21:09.640 When you glorify someone, that's what you're doing. 00:21:09.640 --> 00:21:17.640 Holiness revealed, yes. So, yeah, very good. I'm glad you were away for two weeks, but you remember. 00:21:17.640 --> 00:21:25.640 But, so, his holy love magnified, telescoped and put on a screen. 00:21:25.640 --> 00:21:30.640 His holy kindness magnified, put on a screen. It is his otherness. 00:21:30.640 --> 00:21:34.640 The otherness of his love, the otherness of his kindness magnified. 00:21:34.640 --> 00:21:38.640 This is what it means to glorify him. Can we not forget it? 00:21:38.640 --> 00:21:44.640 In every little action, in Jane's interaction with Sheldon, in Sheldon's interaction with Phoebe, 00:21:44.640 --> 00:21:51.640 in my interaction with you, in your interaction with your mother, 00:21:51.640 --> 00:21:56.640 if this can somehow become central to me where my intent is to telescope him, 00:21:56.640 --> 00:22:03.640 and you realize how much else we telescope every day. 00:22:03.640 --> 00:22:12.640 In Matthew 16, you have Peter being the gateway of two realms. 00:22:12.640 --> 00:22:18.640 On one hand, in Matthew 16, he stands and Jesus says to him, 00:22:18.640 --> 00:22:24.640 this revelation did not come from the earth. It came from the Father. 00:22:24.640 --> 00:22:30.640 Because what Peter says, he says, you are Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. 00:22:30.640 --> 00:22:37.640 And he says, this revelation didn't come from the earth. It didn't come from flesh. It came from the Father. 00:22:37.640 --> 00:22:47.640 And he complements Peter on becoming a gateway here on earth for the most amazing revelation that man has ever brought. 00:22:47.640 --> 00:22:52.640 The only other revelation like that was in Exodus 33 when God said, I am who I am to Moses. 00:22:52.640 --> 00:22:58.640 After that, this is the first time someone is recognizing Christ as King and God. 00:22:58.640 --> 00:23:05.640 About eight verses later, Peter has pulled Jesus aside and he's telling Jesus, 00:23:05.640 --> 00:23:11.640 listen, don't talk about the cross. We got a good thing going here. Don't mess it up. 00:23:11.640 --> 00:23:17.640 And the same Jesus who said, this revelation is not from the earth, but it's from my Father and in heaven, 00:23:17.640 --> 00:23:22.640 now pulls him aside and says to him, Satan, get thee behind me. 00:23:22.640 --> 00:23:29.640 It's a matter of seven or eight verses, so maybe a couple of hours in real time. 00:23:29.640 --> 00:23:37.640 How does one go from being the gateway of heaven to the gateway of hell? 00:23:37.640 --> 00:23:45.640 How would you and I react if Jesus said to you or me, Satan, get behind me? 00:23:45.640 --> 00:23:51.640 He actually said it to a human being. 00:23:51.640 --> 00:23:56.640 Satan, get behind me. 00:23:56.640 --> 00:24:02.640 And so to glorify means to telescope. And so the question is, Jacob, on an average day, 00:24:02.640 --> 00:24:07.640 how much are you telescoping from which realm, which kingdom? 00:24:07.640 --> 00:24:19.640 And what you telescope in secret is eventually what you'll telescope in public. 00:24:19.640 --> 00:24:25.640 Any questions? 00:24:25.640 --> 00:24:30.640 We are always caught in this tussle, guys, between two kingdoms, eh? 00:24:30.640 --> 00:24:35.640 Always. And they're both vying for our attention. 00:24:35.640 --> 00:24:40.640 The difference and the advantage we have is the spirit of one kingdom dwells in us, 00:24:40.640 --> 00:24:45.640 the spirit of the other kingdom dwells outside us. 00:24:45.640 --> 00:24:50.640 That's the advantage we possess. The spirit of the Father and the Son dwells in us, 00:24:50.640 --> 00:25:05.640 the spirit of the world dwells outside us, and he has actually no internal power over me. 00:25:05.640 --> 00:25:12.640 Greater is he that is, now you understand, in you than he that is in the world. 00:25:12.640 --> 00:25:21.640 The external force versus the most powerful being in the entire universe who is uncreated, living in you. 00:25:21.640 --> 00:25:32.640 The advantage is distinct. The choice is the difference. 00:25:32.640 --> 00:25:48.640 You were chosen to glorify him. The next one, you were chosen to belong to the kingdom of the Son. 00:25:48.640 --> 00:25:58.640 Colossians 1, 12 and 13, if you turn to it. Colossians 1, 12 and 13. 00:25:58.640 --> 00:26:05.640 A lot of this you may have heard simply because it's retro month, but that's good. 00:26:05.640 --> 00:26:12.640 Colossians 1, 12 and 13. 00:26:12.640 --> 00:26:19.640 Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light, 00:26:19.640 --> 00:26:26.640 he has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son. 00:26:26.640 --> 00:26:34.640 So you have something called the domain of darkness. This is really, it's not some figment of imagination. 00:26:34.640 --> 00:26:44.640 There's a domain of darkness and you've been transferred into the kingdom of the Son. 00:26:44.640 --> 00:26:54.640 From the domain of darkness into the kingdom of the Son. 00:26:54.640 --> 00:26:59.640 I've said this before, but one of the things that's happened is that the Gospel has been reduced. 00:26:59.640 --> 00:27:03.640 The Gospel has been reduced. 00:27:03.640 --> 00:27:10.640 Has been reduced to a personal salvation plan. 00:27:10.640 --> 00:27:13.640 To a personal salvation plan. 00:27:13.640 --> 00:27:23.640 The reason I'm bringing it up again is so that you don't and I don't perpetuate the personal salvation plan when we talk to people. 00:27:23.640 --> 00:27:40.640 The Gospel has been reduced to a personal salvation plan and in the process it strips the Gospel of its cosmic dimension. 00:27:40.640 --> 00:27:46.640 As in the enormity of what God is actually doing. 00:27:46.640 --> 00:27:52.640 So Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, Peter, they all talked about one simple thing. 00:27:52.640 --> 00:28:07.640 Repent from your sins and enter the kingdom. 00:28:07.640 --> 00:28:19.640 But we have reduced that to invite Jesus into your life. 00:28:19.640 --> 00:28:29.640 Till we get back to the centrality of the fact that the invitation is Jesus inviting you into the kingdom. 00:28:29.640 --> 00:28:34.640 That is so important and we've lost that. 00:28:34.640 --> 00:28:37.640 It's not a personal plan of salvation. 00:28:37.640 --> 00:28:46.640 It is the establishing of a kingdom that is from everlasting to everlasting because he has been a king from everlasting to everlasting. 00:28:46.640 --> 00:28:51.640 And so what he is saying is, listen, repent of your sins. 00:28:51.640 --> 00:28:54.640 Turn to me the king. 00:28:54.640 --> 00:28:56.640 Look what I have done for you. 00:28:56.640 --> 00:28:59.640 And if you receive me, I will invite you. 00:28:59.640 --> 00:29:03.640 I will give you entry into a kingdom. 00:29:03.640 --> 00:29:10.640 We have to stop presenting the Gospel as invite Jesus into your life. 00:29:10.640 --> 00:29:20.640 The invite Jesus into your life should only come after Jesus is inviting you into his kingdom. 00:29:20.640 --> 00:29:30.640 It is a kingdom where then you begin to talk about how it has affected your life. 00:29:30.640 --> 00:29:34.640 We don't think like this so we just go back to Jesus. 00:29:34.640 --> 00:29:37.640 Jesus did this for me. Do you want to come under this rule? 00:33:47.640 --> 00:33:52.640 To come under this rule, you have to recognize Jesus Christ as a king who came down to the earth, 00:33:52.640 --> 00:33:58.640 lived here, died, rose again and is now seated again on a throne. 00:33:58.640 --> 00:34:01.640 That is such a critical part of the creed. 00:34:06.640 --> 00:34:08.640 There's a preacher who puts it this way. 00:34:08.640 --> 00:34:16.640 He says, we sell or want Jesus as pain remover. 00:34:17.640 --> 00:34:26.640 So we present him as healer, as purpose giver, as history maker, as prosperity creator, 00:34:26.640 --> 00:34:33.640 as someone who gives meaning to the universe. 00:34:33.640 --> 00:34:41.640 While all that is true, the one thing we fail is to recognize that he is of unsurpassing worth, as Paul said, 00:34:41.640 --> 00:34:46.640 and that just the unsurpassing worth of Christ is worth laying everything down for, 00:34:46.640 --> 00:34:51.640 instead of waiting for him to heal, provide and do everything else. 00:34:51.640 --> 00:34:55.640 All that comes with him, but that is not what we must sell him as. 00:35:11.640 --> 00:35:16.640 When somebody enters the kingdom, like the Christ kingdom, how it's taught is pretty simplistic. 00:35:16.640 --> 00:35:24.640 Should the church be changing that a bit? 00:35:24.640 --> 00:35:26.640 Is there a better way to look at it? 00:35:26.640 --> 00:35:32.640 When somebody enters the kingdom, where their rank is, should they know that? 00:35:32.640 --> 00:35:35.640 Should they know that? 00:35:35.640 --> 00:35:43.640 I would say when someone enters the kingdom, the thing that we have to introduce most is the culture of this kingdom. 00:35:43.640 --> 00:35:51.640 If I introduce the culture of the kingdom, people will find roles, maturity, rank, function. 00:35:51.640 --> 00:35:53.640 They'll find everything. 00:35:53.640 --> 00:35:56.640 One has to introduce the culture of the kingdom. 00:35:56.640 --> 00:35:58.640 Some culture is innately developed. 00:35:58.640 --> 00:36:02.640 Some culture has to be externally taught. 00:36:02.640 --> 00:36:04.640 And so that's how we go about it. 00:36:04.640 --> 00:36:07.640 If you go to Saudi Arabia, there's a culture there. 00:36:07.640 --> 00:36:15.640 You can't change it because it comes from the king and comes from what the king believes. 00:36:15.640 --> 00:36:22.640 And so anybody who goes to that country has to behave a certain way. 00:36:22.640 --> 00:36:25.640 Cities have cultures. 00:36:25.640 --> 00:36:35.640 The culture in Vegas is different from the culture in Salt Lake City. 00:36:35.640 --> 00:36:42.640 So if you introduce culture and it takes time because it's a collective thinking of a people, 00:36:42.640 --> 00:36:48.640 it takes time but eventually it's got the ability to permeate. 00:36:48.640 --> 00:36:54.640 So it's Jesus who's inviting you into his kingdom, into his purpose, into his work. 00:36:54.640 --> 00:37:00.640 And the father's intent is, 00:37:00.640 --> 00:37:25.640 Can I conform you, can I conform you to the image of both my son, who is the king I installed, on Zion? 00:37:25.640 --> 00:37:34.640 And that's taken from Psalm 2, verse 7, 8. 00:37:34.640 --> 00:37:41.640 Any questions on that? 00:37:41.640 --> 00:37:49.640 Now you can see why he talks about priests and kings, where he refers to you as priests and kings. 00:37:49.640 --> 00:38:00.640 Why would he refer to you as that except that you be conformed to that image too? 00:38:00.640 --> 00:38:07.640 Other than Melchizedek, if you go to Zechariah, there's, Chapter 3 or Chapter 4 has a lampstand 00:38:07.640 --> 00:38:17.640 and it talks about it being the things that, the oil that flows into the thing is shown as priest and king. 00:38:17.640 --> 00:38:24.640 There is Joshua in Zechariah 3, who, he's a priest and then they put a new turban on him 00:38:24.640 --> 00:38:29.640 but he's given a place among the people who stand in the court. 00:38:29.640 --> 00:38:36.640 There is Jesus and Melchizedek. There is Abraham. Abraham is called a prince among men. 00:38:36.640 --> 00:38:40.640 He's not called an ordinary person. He's referred to as that. 00:38:40.640 --> 00:38:43.640 So the priest-king motive has been present for David. 00:38:43.640 --> 00:38:50.640 David is the ultimate priest-king, where on one hand he's king and then he disrobes and wears a linen ephod 00:38:50.640 --> 00:38:56.640 and dances as a priest. So it's been present throughout. 00:38:56.640 --> 00:39:01.640 And then of course in Revelations it keeps talking about priest-king. 00:39:01.640 --> 00:39:03.640 Yep. 00:39:17.640 --> 00:39:28.640 Yeah, so when we talk about inviting Jesus into your life, it's almost, most prayers are without the need for repentance. 00:39:28.640 --> 00:39:34.640 So let's invite Jesus into your life. Jesus is savior. He must save you from something. 00:39:34.640 --> 00:39:38.640 If you don't acknowledge what you need saving from, he cannot be savior. 00:39:38.640 --> 00:39:44.640 And so you can't even repent until you first acknowledge that I need saving. 00:39:44.640 --> 00:39:51.640 The next question is saving from what? And then you have to say I need saving from this, this, this and this. 00:39:51.640 --> 00:40:00.640 Aha! Now you need a savior. Well then, there is a savior and his name is Jesus. 00:40:00.640 --> 00:40:09.640 So this idea of inviting Jesus into your life often is, just say with me, Jesus, Jesus, I invite you into my life, 00:40:09.640 --> 00:40:14.640 invite you into my life, forgive all my sins, forgive all my sins, and now send your spirit within me, 00:40:14.640 --> 00:40:19.640 send your spirit within me and take me to heaven, take me to heaven. 00:40:19.640 --> 00:40:23.640 And now, if you're saved, please join a good church, so many of you. 00:40:23.640 --> 00:40:36.640 While there are many that have gotten saved like that, the better way is more difficult, more laborious, but more solid. 00:40:36.640 --> 00:40:39.640 It's a more excellent way. 00:40:39.640 --> 00:40:47.640 Next one. 00:40:47.640 --> 00:40:59.640 The reason we have been chosen is so that we can make all things new. 00:40:59.640 --> 00:41:10.640 So the first reason was for his glory. 00:41:10.640 --> 00:41:21.640 Second reason is, second reason is to belong to the kingdom of the sun. 00:41:21.640 --> 00:41:25.640 To belong to the kingdom of the sun. 00:41:25.640 --> 00:41:28.640 To belong to a kingdom. The kingdom belongs. The king is the sun. 00:41:28.640 --> 00:41:34.640 And the third reason is to make all things new. This is why we were chosen. 00:41:34.640 --> 00:41:48.640 In 1 Corinthians 5.17, it talks about you are now a new creation. 00:41:48.640 --> 00:42:05.640 In Romans 8.21, it talks about how creation will one day be liberated from its bondage 00:42:05.640 --> 00:42:12.640 and be made new. Right now it's groaning, but one day it will be made new. 00:42:12.640 --> 00:42:19.640 Revelation 21.5 talks about how you hear a voice from heaven saying, 00:42:19.640 --> 00:42:32.640 Behold, I have made all things new. 00:42:32.640 --> 00:42:39.640 And so, and then, I mean, when you look at it, you see how in Genesis 2.9 there was a tree of life, 00:42:39.640 --> 00:42:52.640 and then you go to Revelation 22 and verse 2, and you see the tree of life that was barred now being restored. 00:42:52.640 --> 00:43:02.640 There is no plan B. I know you've heard me say that a million times. There is no plan B. 00:43:02.640 --> 00:43:07.640 One of the reasons I was chosen was to make things new. 00:43:07.640 --> 00:43:14.640 Was to make things new in your life, was to make things new on the earth, was to make things new. 00:43:14.640 --> 00:43:18.640 Because that's what's been done for me, now it must be done for others. 00:43:18.640 --> 00:43:23.640 But these are things we forget. These are the reasons we were chosen. 00:43:23.640 --> 00:43:30.640 Chosen why? This is one prominent reason to make things new in people's lives. 00:43:30.640 --> 00:43:38.640 Remember, when we say kingdom, we are talking about God Kinging. God is Kinging. 00:43:38.640 --> 00:43:46.640 The moment we say the kingdom of God is here on earth, we are saying our God is Kinging. 00:43:46.640 --> 00:43:53.640 I mean, it's very obvious that there's a shift in whoever leads the US. 00:43:53.640 --> 00:43:56.640 This new man has come. He's become the President of the US. 00:43:56.640 --> 00:44:04.640 And every day you know that he's trumping, for the lack of a better word. 00:44:04.640 --> 00:44:13.640 Every day he's doing that. And he's a mere mortal. God is Kinging. 00:44:13.640 --> 00:44:22.640 He's making, like, what is this guy's sign? Executive orders? Yeah. 00:44:22.640 --> 00:44:26.640 There's not a day when God is not signing executive orders, eh? 00:44:26.640 --> 00:44:33.640 That are full of kindness, full of love, full of newness, full of gentleness, full of power. 00:44:33.640 --> 00:44:40.640 Every day. But who is he doing it through? We. And he can do it without us. 00:44:40.640 --> 00:44:44.640 But he loves his kids involved. 00:44:45.640 --> 00:44:53.640 So, making new is an essential reason why I'm chosen. If I forget it, I'm wasting the Holy Spirit. 00:44:53.640 --> 00:45:02.640 I know that's a drastic statement to make. But if, as a believer, who is now growing in the Lord, has been a believer for years, 00:45:02.640 --> 00:45:10.640 if it is not my desire and intent and discipline to make things new, 00:45:10.640 --> 00:45:16.640 then I want to say to you that I am wasting the life of the Holy Spirit in me. 00:45:16.640 --> 00:45:25.640 Because he's done everything. And he'll keep doing it. But surely he lives in me so that he can do something for others. 00:45:25.640 --> 00:45:29.640 How will the river flow through the nations? 00:45:29.640 --> 00:45:41.640 God is kinging. And whenever he kings, he makes things new. 00:45:41.640 --> 00:45:48.640 And guys, in charismatic churches like ours, even though we are affiliated with the Baptists, 00:45:48.640 --> 00:45:57.640 how we see kinging, how we see God doing things, is very different from how God may do things. 00:45:57.640 --> 00:46:06.640 And I've asked this question before, but if God is kinging, what does it look like? What does kinging look like? 00:46:06.640 --> 00:46:20.640 What does kinging look like? Does it look like healing, miracles, deliverance? 00:46:20.640 --> 00:46:39.640 Does it look like prophetic declarations? Or does it look like mercy, justice, issues of race, issues of ecology and environment? 00:46:39.640 --> 00:46:57.640 Is it a revival? Is it a stream? Is it a gushing river? Or a waterfall? 00:46:57.640 --> 00:47:12.640 You see, it's all of this. So when you see a believer who thinks saving trees is important, it may not be your thing. 00:47:12.640 --> 00:47:22.640 But we are talking about something of cosmic dimensions, where it is the earth and the universe that is groaning in labor, 00:47:22.640 --> 00:47:35.640 that is in bondage, and yearns to see liberty, as in, even though inanimate, God is saying in Romans 8 that creation knows the decay it has suffered 00:47:35.640 --> 00:47:45.640 and is waiting for a day when it can become Eden again. We don't even understand this. 00:47:45.640 --> 00:47:55.640 But Hebrew writers have continuously written of these inanimate, not living things in ways that are so different. 00:47:55.640 --> 00:48:01.640 The trees will clap their hands. The mountains will bow. The seas will roar. 00:48:01.640 --> 00:48:09.640 The morning star sang as creation was being made. Do you see what has happened to personal salvation? 00:48:09.640 --> 00:48:21.640 It reduces it to you and your father. There's something seriously wrong with that because it doesn't share God's heart. 00:48:21.640 --> 00:48:32.640 It was not just you who fell and so have to be recreated. The fall was massive. Recreation is massive. 00:48:32.640 --> 00:48:51.640 And you play a massive role in it because the moment you change Joy's life, you've just played a massive role in changing one life that may change a hundred or change a thousand. You don't know. 00:48:51.640 --> 00:49:00.640 Begin to long for this kind of a thing to capture your heart. Part of the capturing comes through teaching. Part of the capturing comes through meditating. 00:49:00.640 --> 00:49:07.640 When both are done, the Holy Spirit has room to work. He works with the Word. 00:49:07.640 --> 00:49:16.640 Wherever the Word is spoken and dwelt on, the Spirit of God will find enough room to hover and birth things. 00:49:16.640 --> 00:49:27.640 That's why I feel that it's important to go over some of the things we've learned and they just go, it's like water under the bridge. 00:49:27.640 --> 00:49:47.640 So that's another reason that we were chosen for. You forget that reason and I want to say to you, you're wasting the Holy Spirit because all he's doing in your life then is having you speak in tongues and having you experience the love of the Father but it's still all you. 00:49:47.640 --> 00:49:59.640 He wants to do so much more. He wants to King. He's the Spirit of the King. 00:49:59.640 --> 00:50:13.640 What we know is when God is Kinging, when God is Kinging, life flows from the throne. 00:50:13.640 --> 00:50:23.640 When God is Kinging, life flows from the throne. I would suggest to you that the more I become aware of it, the more confident I will become of what may happen through me. 00:50:23.640 --> 00:50:36.640 I suggest to you, the more I become aware of it, the more confident I will be of what will happen through me. 00:50:36.640 --> 00:50:47.640 When you become aware that this is something that the Spirit of God likes doing, that when God is Kinging, life flows and whatever it touches springs to life. 00:50:47.640 --> 00:50:59.640 When you become more aware of it, you will find yourself becoming more confident of what may happen through you. 00:50:59.640 --> 00:51:03.640 Next one. 00:51:03.640 --> 00:51:09.640 It doesn't matter whether it's few people or too many people. We were chosen to show a life marked by Kingdom Living. 00:51:42.640 --> 00:51:48.640 Let me quickly give you just three or four important aspects of Kingdom Living. 00:51:48.640 --> 00:52:14.640 Number one, right living or right relationship with God, yourself, others and the earth. 00:52:14.640 --> 00:52:21.640 In other words, there's a simple word for it, righteousness. 00:52:21.640 --> 00:52:27.640 Does my life exhibit this? Unfortunately, no. 00:52:27.640 --> 00:52:35.640 Right living or right relationship with God, myself, yes. Others, earth? Not really. 00:52:35.640 --> 00:52:48.640 Haunted to reflect that. Again, God, myself, is so easy it comes back to the individual. 00:52:48.640 --> 00:52:57.640 What else shows a life marked by Kingdom Living? Peace and rest. 00:52:57.640 --> 00:53:06.640 Peace as in there's something whole about you. There's something whole about you. 00:53:06.640 --> 00:53:12.640 There's something whole about you. That's so cool, eh, when you can say of someone else, 00:53:12.640 --> 00:53:18.640 hey, there's something about that person that's whole. It's not that the person's perfect. 00:53:18.640 --> 00:53:24.640 You still have speed bumps and small potholes, but there's something whole about the person. 00:53:24.640 --> 00:53:31.640 It's not because the person can run, the sun run or can climb a mountain. 00:53:31.640 --> 00:53:34.640 It's not because of that. It's something whole about the person. 00:53:34.640 --> 00:53:43.640 That'd be such a cool statement. To be whole is to have shalom, to have peace and rest. 00:53:43.640 --> 00:53:50.640 Ah, that'd be so marvelous. If someone could say that about my heart, my mind, my emotions, my thoughts, 00:53:50.640 --> 00:54:00.640 the way I live, what I exude. Third one. 00:54:00.640 --> 00:54:08.640 You see, guys, here's the other thing. Do you see what a rarity is to find believers like this? 00:54:08.640 --> 00:54:16.640 And shouldn't we then aspire? I'm not saying we are not. I'm just saying we need longer periods of this. 00:54:16.640 --> 00:54:28.640 Oh, there are times when all of these we are, but longer stretches, publicly and privately. 00:54:28.640 --> 00:54:35.640 Third one. This is a favorite of mine and one of the things that present I'm hung up on. 00:54:35.640 --> 00:54:46.640 Joy and happiness. Joy and happiness. 00:54:46.640 --> 00:54:52.640 Happiness because you're just happy. Joy because even when things are not going well, 00:54:52.640 --> 00:55:00.640 you still have the ability to be full of hope. It's both, eh? 00:55:00.640 --> 00:55:05.640 Happiness because it's a good day. The Canucks are playing and they want, they're on a, 00:55:05.640 --> 00:55:12.640 forget the Canucks. And so, if after all that, I find myself in places where I'm angry or irritated easily, 00:56:39.640 --> 00:56:48.640 the things that I've written down to practice this year, do not be afraid. And you can keep moving them around, eh, 00:56:56.640 --> 00:57:04.640 because one is the reason for the other. Do not be afraid. Do not be offended.
