It's the year of the Holy Spirit. 00:00:53.000 --> 00:01:02.000 And so we'll go down that road and look at some things about the Holy Spirit today. 00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:08.000 So if you looked at the Old Testament, in the Old Testament, 00:01:08.000 --> 00:01:17.000 the ultimate display of power was when God dismantled and decapitated the Holy Spirit. 00:01:17.000 --> 00:01:21.000 He dismantled and decapitated the powers of Egypt. 00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:23.000 That was the ultimate display of power. 00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:25.000 If you look at the Psalms, if you look at Moses' writings, 00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:27.000 if you look at any Old Testament story, 00:01:27.000 --> 00:01:30.000 if you look at prophecies of Isaiah and Jeremiah, 00:01:30.000 --> 00:01:33.000 the one thing that keeps coming up again and again is, 00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:39.000 do you remember how Yahweh dismantled and destroyed the armies of Egypt 00:01:39.000 --> 00:01:43.000 and brought out a slave nation that was given up as dead, 00:01:43.000 --> 00:01:47.000 and then he brought them back into a people and brought them forth. 00:01:47.000 --> 00:01:50.000 This is something that is always repeated in the Old Testament. 00:01:50.000 --> 00:01:54.000 That was the standard of God's power. 00:01:54.000 --> 00:01:57.000 And then suddenly in the New Testament it changes. 00:01:57.000 --> 00:02:00.000 In the New Testament, the ultimate display of power is this. 00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:02.000 Just imagine this. 00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:07.000 In the New Testament, the ultimate display of power is when a man 00:02:07.000 --> 00:02:11.000 dismantles the powers of hell and death. 00:02:11.000 --> 00:02:16.000 Then he dies and without assistance he is raised. 00:02:16.000 --> 00:02:17.000 Think of this. 00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.000 Most raisings of the dead happen because somebody goes there, 00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:25.000 something happens, something is spoken, something is done, 00:02:25.000 --> 00:02:26.000 and they come back to life. 00:02:26.000 --> 00:02:28.000 Every story in the Bible is like that. 00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:30.000 It doesn't matter whether it's Elijah, whether it's Peter, 00:02:30.000 --> 00:02:32.000 whether it's Paul, whether it's Jesus. 00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:36.000 Someone had to go and do something before someone came back to life, 00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:40.000 except in one story, the story of the man called Jesus of Nazareth. 00:02:41.000 --> 00:02:49.000 And his odds are worse because he's taking on the sins of the entire world. 00:02:49.000 --> 00:02:54.000 So he's not just handling his own sins and he had none, 00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:56.000 but he's taking on the sins of an entire world. 00:02:56.000 --> 00:02:59.000 He's taking on the sins of eight billion people who exist now, 00:02:59.000 --> 00:03:01.000 the billions that have existed before, 00:03:01.000 --> 00:03:03.000 and the billions that will exist from here on. 00:03:03.000 --> 00:03:07.000 He takes them all on and he's lying dead in a tomb, 00:03:07.000 --> 00:03:11.000 and then this man without assistance comes back to life. 00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:16.000 And I'm calling him man because one of the things we really, 00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:22.000 the reason we don't grasp the enormity of what happened with Jesus on Resurrection Sunday 00:03:22.000 --> 00:03:25.000 is because we always think, but he was God. 00:03:25.000 --> 00:03:30.000 If you could somehow remove from your mind and heart, but he was God, 00:03:30.000 --> 00:03:36.000 you will begin to fathom the enormity of what has happened in his life and in our lives. 00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:40.000 You've got to stop thinking that he rose from the dead because he was God. 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:45.000 There was nothing God-ish about him as he lay dead there and when he rose again. 00:03:47.000 --> 00:03:50.000 He did not rise from the dead because he was God. 00:03:55.000 --> 00:03:58.000 He rose from the dead because there was no sin in him. 00:03:59.000 --> 00:04:02.000 And any man who has no sin will rise from the dead. 00:04:02.000 --> 00:04:06.000 And the only reason you will rise from the dead is because your sins have been taken care of 00:04:06.000 --> 00:04:08.000 and there are no sins in you anymore. 00:04:11.000 --> 00:04:14.000 Because the wages of sin is death. 00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:18.000 If you do not sin, you cannot pay someone in the currency of death. 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:26.000 Here is a man who is lying dead, taken on the sins of the world, 00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:31.000 has dismantled death and hell through his death, and now he's lying there. 00:04:31.000 --> 00:04:33.000 He's Jesus of Nazareth, dead. 00:04:34.000 --> 00:04:36.000 And then without assistance, he comes back to life. 00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:40.000 Or so we think. We think that without assistance, he comes back to life. 00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:44.000 And then he walks around the earth for 40 days and then a strange thing happens. 00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:49.000 He ascends. He ascends. He leaves the earth. He ascends. 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:51.000 No one's done that before. 00:04:51.000 --> 00:04:56.000 They had to send chariots of fire and the horses of Israel to have Elijah ascend. 00:04:56.000 --> 00:05:00.000 There was Enoch. He ascended too, but this was a different kind of ascension. 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:04.000 Here is a man who was dead who's come back to life. Without assistance, you think. 00:05:05.000 --> 00:05:12.000 He comes out of the grave, opens a tomb, comes out, walks around for 40 days, talks with people, 00:05:12.000 --> 00:05:14.000 and then one day he ascends. 00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:17.000 And where does he ascend to? He ascends to this place, 00:05:17.000 --> 00:05:22.000 which is the ultimate place in the universe, and it is called the right hand of the... 00:05:22.000 --> 00:05:24.000 to the right hand of the Father. 00:05:25.000 --> 00:05:27.000 There is no place higher than that. 00:05:27.000 --> 00:05:32.000 There is no place that is first before that. 00:05:32.000 --> 00:05:34.000 That is where everything originated. 00:05:34.000 --> 00:05:40.000 Everything that exists originated from this place called the right hand of the Father. 00:05:41.000 --> 00:05:43.000 And he ascends and he's seated there with him. 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:49.000 We think he did that without assistance, but then when you go to Ephesians 1, 19, 00:05:49.000 --> 00:05:56.000 it says that the one who caused him to rise up from the grave was this person called the Holy Spirit. 00:05:56.000 --> 00:05:59.000 It actually says that, eh? That the same power of God... 00:05:59.000 --> 00:06:04.000 Read Ephesians 1, 17 or 18. 00:06:05.000 --> 00:06:06.000 Ah, that's the hymn book. 00:06:15.000 --> 00:06:17.000 Ephesians 1. 00:06:18.000 --> 00:06:20.000 Ephesians 1. 00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:30.000 And you thought Jesus didn't have help that day? He was helpless there, man. 00:06:30.000 --> 00:06:34.000 The one thing that he did so that the Spirit of God could raise him up was that he did not sin, 00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:37.000 so he didn't need to be paid the wages of sin with his death. 00:06:37.000 --> 00:06:39.000 But then see what happens. 00:06:39.000 --> 00:06:40.000 This sounds so odd when you put it this way. 00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:44.000 You almost feel like you're taking away the divinity of Christ, but you're not. 00:06:44.000 --> 00:06:49.000 You're proving that he is Son of Man and Son of God, that he has the same limitations that we had. 00:06:51.000 --> 00:06:54.000 And look what it says in verse 17. 00:06:54.000 --> 00:06:57.000 I keep asking...verse 18. 00:06:57.000 --> 00:07:01.000 I pray also that the eyes of your heart...and I really pray this as we go through this, 00:07:01.000 --> 00:07:03.000 because this is so hard to sometimes comprehend. 00:07:03.000 --> 00:07:08.000 So I pray that the eyes of your heart and my heart may be enlightened. 00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:12.000 In order that you may know the ridiculous...and ridiculous is my word... 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:15.000 ridiculous hope to which he has called you. 00:07:15.000 --> 00:07:19.000 And then you go to verse 19 and it says, 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:23.000 look at the incomparable power that is available to you and I. 00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:28.000 This is the power that was at work in Christ when he was raised from the dead 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:31.000 and seated at the right hand in the heavenly realms. 00:07:31.000 --> 00:07:32.000 So here's the thing, guys. 00:07:32.000 --> 00:07:39.000 This person called the Holy Spirit is the one who has the ability to raise a man who is dead, 00:07:39.000 --> 00:07:43.000 who has taken upon himself the sins of the entire world. 00:07:43.000 --> 00:07:44.000 He raises him up. 00:07:44.000 --> 00:07:47.000 He raises him up and he walks around for 40 days. 00:07:47.000 --> 00:07:49.000 And then the Holy Spirit does something else. 00:07:49.000 --> 00:07:51.000 He causes Jesus to ascend. 00:07:51.000 --> 00:07:57.000 Once Jesus ascends, the Holy Spirit now has the power to bring him to that place that he once occupied, 00:07:57.000 --> 00:07:59.000 the right hand of the Father. 00:08:00.000 --> 00:08:04.000 Surprisingly, if you read the Old Testament and read Isaiah, 00:08:04.000 --> 00:08:09.000 you realize that in the desert and the wilderness, it was again the Holy Spirit. 00:08:09.000 --> 00:08:15.000 It was the Holy Spirit who would appear as a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud, 00:08:15.000 --> 00:08:16.000 the Shekinah of God. 00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:21.000 It was the Holy Spirit who had the ability to take off the chariot wheels of the Egyptians. 00:08:21.000 --> 00:08:26.000 It was the Holy Spirit who, according to Isaiah, sets up a standard against the enemy. 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:31.000 It was the Holy Spirit that had the ability to make the waters stand on one side 00:08:31.000 --> 00:08:33.000 while the Israelites crossed safely. 00:08:34.000 --> 00:08:40.000 And it is the same Spirit now that raises you from your deadness. 00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:43.000 And that ain't all that he does. 00:08:43.000 --> 00:08:46.000 He raises you from your deadness and while you are still alive, 00:08:46.000 --> 00:08:51.000 he seats you at the right hand of Christ, who is at the right hand of the Father. 00:08:51.000 --> 00:08:54.000 You are at once present before him forever. 00:08:57.000 --> 00:08:59.000 Don't try to understand it. 00:08:59.000 --> 00:09:00.000 Try to comprehend it. 00:09:00.000 --> 00:09:05.000 If you try to understand it, you won't. 00:09:07.000 --> 00:09:09.000 So let me read it and then I can stop for questions. 00:09:09.000 --> 00:09:14.000 The same mighty power of God is in work in us today. 00:09:14.000 --> 00:09:18.000 He who worked in Christ, who raised him from the dead, 00:09:18.000 --> 00:09:21.000 who seated him in the heavenlies at the right hand of the Father, 00:09:21.000 --> 00:09:24.000 is the same one who raised Jacob out of deadness 00:09:24.000 --> 00:09:28.000 and has seated Jacob right now with Christ at the right hand of the Father. 00:09:28.000 --> 00:09:30.000 Ephesians 2, verse 1 to 6. 00:09:32.000 --> 00:09:34.000 Ephesians 2, verse 1. 00:09:34.000 --> 00:09:37.000 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins. 00:09:37.000 --> 00:09:38.000 Verse 6. 00:09:38.000 --> 00:09:44.000 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. 00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:45.000 Who does this? 00:09:45.000 --> 00:09:47.000 It's the sheer work of the Spirit of God. 00:09:48.000 --> 00:09:49.000 Any questions before we go on? 00:09:55.000 --> 00:09:57.000 Philippians 3, verse 2. 00:09:58.000 --> 00:10:09.000 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing his suffering. 00:10:09.000 --> 00:10:13.000 Because we can't imagine his death without some other thing, resurrection from the dead. 00:10:13.000 --> 00:10:21.000 Again guys, this whole idea of the same Spirit that was available to Jesus and raised Jesus Christ from the dead 00:10:21.000 --> 00:10:24.000 is the same Spirit that raises me from my deadness 00:10:24.000 --> 00:10:27.000 and actually seats me with Christ next to the Father. 00:10:30.000 --> 00:10:37.000 Some truths if we don't grasp will prevent the Holy Spirit from being able to do all that he wants to do in my life in 2020, 00:10:37.000 --> 00:10:39.000 which we are calling the year of the Holy Spirit. 00:10:40.000 --> 00:10:41.000 Any questions? 00:10:43.000 --> 00:10:45.000 This is what I want to explore today. Any questions? 00:10:45.000 --> 00:10:46.000 Any questions? 00:10:53.000 --> 00:10:57.000 Here's the first truth we need to get accustomed to. 00:10:57.000 --> 00:11:05.000 I am raised from the deadness of my life by the Holy Spirit, just as Christ was raised from the deadness of his life. 00:11:05.000 --> 00:11:06.000 That's one part. 00:11:06.000 --> 00:11:13.000 The second part is by an amazing series of events that I cannot understand, 00:11:13.000 --> 00:11:20.000 I need to realize that the Holy Spirit at present in Christ has me at the right hand of God 00:11:20.000 --> 00:11:26.000 and I am ever present before the Father in the throne room of heaven. 00:11:26.000 --> 00:11:34.000 This is my actual location. It just so happens that I have a tent here on earth that I also occupy. 00:11:34.000 --> 00:11:41.000 Can you try and not forget that you are forever present before the Father in the throne room of God? 00:11:46.000 --> 00:11:50.000 It does away with this whole idea of God is not understanding me, God is not watching me. 00:11:50.000 --> 00:11:56.000 Isaiah, why do you say, Jacob, God says to Isaiah, God says in Isaiah, 00:11:56.000 --> 00:11:59.000 why do you say, oh Jacob, that I have forgotten you, that I do not remember you, 00:11:59.000 --> 00:12:02.000 that I do not understand what is happening in your life? 00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:05.000 We'll stop all that when we know that we are forever present. 00:12:05.000 --> 00:12:11.000 Every circumstance from the past, from today, from tomorrow is already present before him because I am present before him. 00:12:11.000 --> 00:12:13.000 Where am I present? Not at a distance. 00:12:13.000 --> 00:12:18.000 I'm present at the right hand of the Father where Christ is seated. 00:12:18.000 --> 00:12:22.000 Who brings me there continuously? Who keeps me there continuously? 00:12:22.000 --> 00:12:26.000 The Spirit of God. When do I not see it? When I'm not aware of this truth. 00:12:32.000 --> 00:12:37.000 Any questions? 00:12:37.000 --> 00:12:42.000 Sorry to say that again. 00:12:42.000 --> 00:12:47.000 Yeah. If I don't begin to grasp these truths about the Holy Spirit, 00:12:47.000 --> 00:12:53.000 it's highly unlikely that I can experience to the fullness the year of the Holy Spirit that God has ordained for this church. 00:12:53.000 --> 00:12:57.000 One of the things I need to realize is that I have been raised out of my deadness. 00:12:57.000 --> 00:12:59.000 I've been raised out of my deadness. 00:12:59.000 --> 00:13:04.000 I was helpless. Jesus was helpless. Freaky to even say that. 00:13:04.000 --> 00:13:07.000 And then what happens? Then the Holy Spirit comes. Who? The Spirit of God. 00:13:07.000 --> 00:13:10.000 To do what? To raise Jesus out from his deadness. 00:13:10.000 --> 00:13:15.000 And what does he do for me? He breaks open the tomb of death that I was locked in. 00:13:15.000 --> 00:13:18.000 And he raises me out of my deadness. What happens then? 00:13:18.000 --> 00:13:21.000 I get to walk the earth for a little while, just as Jesus did walk the earth. 00:13:21.000 --> 00:13:26.000 And then what happens? He causes me immediately to now break free from my deadness. 00:13:26.000 --> 00:13:34.000 And then what happens? He causes me immediately to now begin to be seated with Christ in heavenly places at the right hand of the Father. 00:13:34.000 --> 00:13:38.000 What does that mean? It means that I'm forever present before God. 00:13:38.000 --> 00:13:43.000 That is a more real place than the earth. These things will disappear. That will not. 00:13:43.000 --> 00:13:49.000 These things are temporary. That is not. These things have a beginning and end. That thing does not. 00:13:49.000 --> 00:13:56.000 Where is it? It is at the place of absolute power, absolute bliss, absolute knowledge, absolute goodness. 00:13:56.000 --> 00:13:59.000 Where is this? At the right hand of the Father. 00:13:59.000 --> 00:14:04.000 Can I begin to think along these lines that I am forever present before the Father? 00:14:04.000 --> 00:14:10.000 That the only way I leave his presence is if Jesus leaves his presence. 00:14:10.000 --> 00:14:16.000 It's a way of thinking, guys. I was telling the young adults that... 00:14:16.000 --> 00:14:21.000 And I've said it here before, but it's worth remembering at the beginning of the year, 00:14:21.000 --> 00:14:45.000 that when you begin to, what you think is what you move towards, establish, inhabit, renew, speak, think like. 00:14:51.000 --> 00:15:03.000 What you think, how you process certain things in the Bible, what you think is what you will move towards. 00:15:03.000 --> 00:15:09.000 It's very natural. This is not some great scriptural principle. It is just a physical fact of life. 00:15:09.000 --> 00:15:17.000 What you think is what you move towards. What you think is what you begin to reframe or establish for yourself. 00:15:17.000 --> 00:15:24.000 What you think is what you begin to inhabit because you're establishing ground. 00:15:24.000 --> 00:15:33.000 What you think is what begins to renew your way of life, renew how you think, renew your habits, renew your behavior. 00:15:33.000 --> 00:15:44.000 What you think then becomes what you begin to speak. What you think is what you become like. 00:15:44.000 --> 00:15:47.000 And the truths of God, though they can't be understood, can be comprehended. 00:15:47.000 --> 00:15:52.000 And once you begin to think down these lines, the Spirit of God illuminates it. 00:15:52.000 --> 00:15:56.000 Paul himself had to pray this for himself and he's now praying it for the church. 00:15:56.000 --> 00:16:00.000 He says, I pray God that the eyes of your heart are enlightened. Why? 00:16:00.000 --> 00:16:06.000 Because he doesn't say the eyes of your mind be enlightened. He says the eyes of your heart be enlightened. 00:16:06.000 --> 00:16:12.000 That somehow you will catch the fact that this is the truth even though it may not be something that you can fully understand. 00:16:19.000 --> 00:16:21.000 Any questions? 00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:31.000 This is why I pray that this church by the end of this year will begin to do things from heaven to earth instead of from earth to heaven. 00:16:31.000 --> 00:16:41.000 That our worship will not be from earth to heaven. Our worship will be from heaven to the nations. 00:16:41.000 --> 00:16:49.000 I love that song which says, from the mountains to the valleys, here our praises fill the earth. 00:16:49.000 --> 00:16:57.000 From the heavens to the nations. Never made sense. Thought the guy got it wrong. Makes sense. 00:16:57.000 --> 00:17:04.000 Once you decide that your actual place of residence is not this temporary tent, 00:17:04.000 --> 00:17:10.000 because you actually reside from a place where your father is and where your master is and where the Spirit of God has located you. 00:17:10.000 --> 00:17:14.000 This is why Jesus makes this scary comment in John chapter 3. 00:17:14.000 --> 00:17:24.000 It says in John chapter 3 verse 13 or thereabouts, he says that this is he who came down to the earth and is in heaven. 00:17:27.000 --> 00:17:36.000 That's what it says. Because certain versions of the Bible couldn't deal with it, they changed it and they now put it in italics because how do you explain that? 00:17:36.000 --> 00:17:41.000 This is Christ who is here on earth and is in heaven. 00:17:46.000 --> 00:17:48.000 Go ahead, Pawan. 00:17:48.000 --> 00:17:57.000 We got 11 months to discover it. But I'll start now. 00:18:04.000 --> 00:18:10.000 No, really. I'm hoping we can bring a bit of that around this year. 00:18:10.000 --> 00:18:13.000 Any questions, guys? 00:18:13.000 --> 00:18:21.000 So I'd suggest that in 2020, as it says in 1 Corinthians 2.10, that you begin to search the mind of the Spirit. 00:18:21.000 --> 00:18:25.000 The great thing about searching the mind of the Spirit is the Spirit searches the mind of God. 00:18:25.000 --> 00:18:28.000 1 Corinthians 2.10 says the Spirit searches the mind of God. 00:18:28.000 --> 00:18:34.000 So let's start searching the mind of the Spirit. Hey, Holy Spirit, how does this work? 00:18:34.000 --> 00:18:39.000 Because one of the things that the Holy Spirit is, the Holy Spirit is God's irrevocable gift of presence. 00:18:39.000 --> 00:18:42.000 The Holy Spirit is God's irrevocable gift of presence. 00:18:42.000 --> 00:18:46.000 The Holy Spirit is God's irrevocable gift of presence. 00:18:46.000 --> 00:19:04.000 The Holy Spirit is God's irrevocable gift of His personal, I love this, His personal presence. 00:19:04.000 --> 00:19:07.000 Isn't that cool? 00:19:07.000 --> 00:19:10.000 Feel free to say yes, it's cool. 00:19:10.000 --> 00:19:13.000 Yeah. 00:19:13.000 --> 00:19:18.000 The Holy Spirit is God's irrevocable gift. So we don't need to sing that song that David sang. 00:19:18.000 --> 00:19:23.000 Cast me not away from your presence of God. Take not your Holy Spirit from me. 00:19:23.000 --> 00:19:27.000 Don't need to sing that anymore. 00:19:27.000 --> 00:19:35.000 The rest of the song is okay. God's irrevocable gift of His personal, the Holy Spirit is God's, 00:19:35.000 --> 00:19:40.000 just my, sometimes these words slip out of your mouth so easily you don't think of it. 00:19:40.000 --> 00:19:46.000 You know, one of the luxuries a church must have is time. 00:19:46.000 --> 00:19:51.000 Our services don't have time. 00:19:51.000 --> 00:19:58.000 I pray God that one day we have the luxury of time. By one, being aware of it.
