00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:17.080
All righty, guys, let's go.

00:00:17.080 --> 00:00:31.520
So we're talking about, we've been talking about the series called Accredited, and we

00:00:31.520 --> 00:00:54.040
got it from Acts 2 22, and Acts 2 22 says, Acts 2 22 says, Men of Israel, listen to this,

00:00:54.040 --> 00:01:00.400
Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs

00:01:00.400 --> 00:01:02.800
which God did among you through him.

00:01:02.800 --> 00:01:09.360
Men of Israel, listen to this, Jesus of Nazareth, so he's not even saying Jesus the Christ,

00:01:09.360 --> 00:01:15.760
Jesus of Nazareth was a man, it's not saying son of man, son of God, was a man accredited

00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:16.760
by whom?

00:01:16.760 --> 00:01:18.400
By God to you, how?

00:01:18.400 --> 00:01:22.280
By miracles, wonders and signs which God did among you through him.

00:01:22.280 --> 00:01:26.960
And so we've been going down that road as, okay, so how do we get accredited by God so

00:01:26.960 --> 00:01:32.640
that we can in the eyes of the world be shown to be people who have the same things that

00:01:32.640 --> 00:01:35.360
are happening to Jesus of Nazareth happening to us?

00:01:35.360 --> 00:01:41.600
And so we've finished two of these, and so today we talk about another thing that helps

00:01:41.600 --> 00:01:43.920
us get accredited, which is time.

00:01:43.920 --> 00:01:48.800
Last time we talked about faith, today we talk about time.

00:01:48.800 --> 00:01:54.280
Last time we said faith requires prayer, and we were reading that story about Jesus casting

00:01:54.320 --> 00:01:58.680
out the demon from the boy who was being thrown into the fire, one of the things he said to

00:01:58.680 --> 00:02:03.120
his disciples when his disciples came and talked to him, this time does not go out except

00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:04.120
through prayer.

00:02:04.120 --> 00:02:14.120
And so we said that faith requires prayer, but the problem with that is prayer requires

00:02:14.120 --> 00:02:19.720
time.

00:02:19.720 --> 00:02:22.880
Faith requires prayer, prayer requires time.

00:02:22.880 --> 00:02:29.880
And prayer is a form of faith, prayer is a form of faith or a vehicle of faith.

00:02:31.280 --> 00:02:38.280
Prayer is a form of faith that connects today's situation, that connects today's situation,

00:02:38.280 --> 00:02:45.280
that connects today's situation with the grace, with the grace required and available

00:02:53.280 --> 00:03:00.280
immediately, even if it manifests tomorrow.

00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:13.280
We'll go over that before we go on.

00:03:13.280 --> 00:03:20.280
So our struggle is this, that faith requires prayer, but prayer requires time, because

00:03:20.280 --> 00:03:24.280
we're not talking just about conversational prayer, which most charismatics are pretty

00:03:24.280 --> 00:03:25.280
good at doing.

00:03:25.280 --> 00:03:29.280
We're not talking about that kind of prayer, we're talking about prayer which is intentional,

00:03:29.280 --> 00:03:34.280
which is devoted, which Jesus was engaging in on a regular basis every day.

00:03:34.280 --> 00:03:37.280
So that's where we're heading, we touched on it last time.

00:03:37.280 --> 00:03:41.280
Today we're going to talk about, so how do we work this time thing out?

00:03:41.280 --> 00:03:45.280
But before that, prayer is actually a vehicle of faith or a form of faith.

00:03:45.280 --> 00:03:50.280
Prayer is a form of faith that connects today's situation with the grace required.

00:03:50.280 --> 00:03:52.280
Everything is changed by grace.

00:03:52.280 --> 00:03:55.280
Grace is God giving all of himself into a situation.

00:03:55.280 --> 00:03:58.280
Grace is God giving all of himself into a situation.

00:03:58.280 --> 00:04:02.280
That's what grace is, all of himself into a situation.

00:04:02.280 --> 00:04:08.280
Prayer has the ability, or prayer is a form of faith that has the ability to connect today's

00:04:08.280 --> 00:04:10.280
situation with the grace required.

00:04:10.280 --> 00:04:12.280
And it's available immediately.

00:04:12.280 --> 00:04:16.280
This is why Jesus kept saying in Mark 11, 23, whatever you ask, believe that you already

00:04:16.280 --> 00:04:18.280
have, received it.

00:04:18.280 --> 00:04:19.280
So it's available immediately.

00:04:19.280 --> 00:04:22.280
Grace is never tomorrow.

00:04:22.280 --> 00:04:24.280
Grace is never tomorrow.

00:04:24.280 --> 00:04:25.280
You've got to understand that.

00:04:25.280 --> 00:04:28.280
The grace for my situation is available immediately.

00:04:28.280 --> 00:04:30.280
That is my difficulty.

00:04:30.280 --> 00:04:34.280
Till I see a result, I don't believe I have the grace required.

00:04:34.280 --> 00:04:36.280
But grace is available immediately.

00:04:36.280 --> 00:04:38.280
That is what I must receive.

00:04:38.280 --> 00:04:40.280
What do you mean, how do I receive grace?

00:04:40.280 --> 00:04:48.280
I must know that God has for me whatever I need for my sickness, for my need, for my

00:04:48.280 --> 00:04:53.280
guidance, for my ability to do something in my inadequacy.

00:04:53.280 --> 00:04:56.280
There is grace required immediately.

00:04:56.280 --> 00:04:58.280
That I must receive.

00:04:58.280 --> 00:05:00.280
And that is usually couched in a promise.

00:05:00.280 --> 00:05:02.280
And he's the God of Abraham and the God of covenant.

00:05:02.280 --> 00:05:05.280
It's always couched in a promise in the Word.

00:05:05.280 --> 00:05:07.280
It is there immediately for the taking.

00:05:07.280 --> 00:05:09.280
It's like putting my hands in and taking it.

00:05:09.280 --> 00:05:15.280
It's there immediately.

00:05:15.280 --> 00:05:18.280
Then it takes a day to manifest, two days to manifest.

00:05:18.280 --> 00:05:22.280
But every word of God, that's the idea of manna.

00:05:22.280 --> 00:05:24.280
Manna was, what is it?

00:05:24.280 --> 00:05:29.280
Actually, manna is the grace required for daily living.

00:05:29.280 --> 00:05:30.280
That's what it was.

00:05:30.280 --> 00:05:32.280
It was strewn across the desert.

00:05:32.280 --> 00:05:36.280
And it had in it what was required to live.

00:05:36.280 --> 00:05:40.280
Every promise that you have received thus far and will receive in the future has packed

00:05:40.280 --> 00:05:42.280
in it, the grace required.

00:05:42.280 --> 00:05:44.280
And once you open it, it will manifest.

00:05:44.280 --> 00:05:45.280
Why?

00:05:45.280 --> 00:05:47.280
Because he's the God of Abraham and the God of covenant.

00:05:47.280 --> 00:05:50.280
He has history to prove it and what he says he does.

00:05:50.280 --> 00:05:55.280
And when you struggle against it, struggle through it, vent, cry, complain,

00:05:55.280 --> 00:06:03.280
moan, beat his chest and go back to it.

00:06:03.280 --> 00:06:08.280
That's the way it is, man.

00:06:08.280 --> 00:06:14.280
So when it comes to prayer, prayer request requires time.

00:06:14.280 --> 00:06:16.280
Prayer requires time.

00:06:16.280 --> 00:06:21.280
So if you look at Jesus, he had both types of prayer.

00:06:21.280 --> 00:06:23.280
I mean, you look at Luke 6, 12.

00:06:23.280 --> 00:06:25.280
You look at John 6, 15.

00:06:25.280 --> 00:06:29.280
Luke 6, 12.

00:06:29.280 --> 00:06:32.280
John 6, 15.

00:06:32.280 --> 00:06:36.280
Mark 6, 46.

00:06:36.280 --> 00:06:39.280
Matthew 14, 23.

00:06:39.280 --> 00:06:43.280
You look at any of these scriptures and you find that Jesus had this ability to find

00:06:43.280 --> 00:06:46.280
time and it was critical to him.

00:06:46.280 --> 00:06:51.280
He knew that if he didn't have that, it didn't matter that he was the son of the living

00:06:51.280 --> 00:06:55.280
God, he wouldn't have what it took.

00:06:55.280 --> 00:06:59.280
He wouldn't have what it took.

00:06:59.280 --> 00:07:03.280
Matthew 14, 23.

00:07:03.280 --> 00:07:11.280
So Jesus had both conversational prayer, which we are very good at, at least in this

00:07:11.280 --> 00:07:12.280
church.

00:07:12.280 --> 00:07:18.280
One of the things that I find quite endearing is that you can call anyone up and when they

00:07:18.280 --> 00:07:21.280
pray, they sound like they're talking to their father.

00:07:21.280 --> 00:07:23.280
They don't sound like they're talking to God.

00:07:23.280 --> 00:07:26.280
They sound like they're talking to their father.

00:07:26.280 --> 00:07:27.280
That's not easy.

00:07:27.280 --> 00:07:29.280
It's a struggle in most places.

00:07:29.280 --> 00:07:34.280
That you have the ability to do that talks about your relationship with God.

00:07:34.280 --> 00:07:38.280
So on one hand, Jesus would engage in conversational prayer.

00:07:38.280 --> 00:07:43.280
On the other hand, and in conversational prayer, what we need is relationship.

00:07:43.280 --> 00:07:48.280
In conversational prayer, what you need is relationship.

00:07:48.280 --> 00:07:58.280
But on the other hand, he had these intentional times of prayer, intentional times of prayer,

00:07:58.280 --> 00:08:00.280
intentional times of prayer.

00:08:00.280 --> 00:08:04.280
And when you read these scriptures that I gave you, you'll find him engaging in intentional

00:08:04.280 --> 00:08:05.280
times of prayer.

00:08:05.280 --> 00:08:10.280
And the thing with intentional times of prayer is when intentional times of prayer, you need

00:08:10.280 --> 00:08:11.280
devotion.

00:08:11.280 --> 00:08:18.280
If conversational prayer is based on relationship, intentional prayer is based on devotion.

00:08:18.280 --> 00:08:20.280
What do you mean by devotion?

00:08:20.280 --> 00:08:24.280
To devote something is to set apart time, treasure, talent, strength.

00:08:24.280 --> 00:08:30.280
To set it apart and set it apart so that it has a singular focus or an objective.

00:08:30.280 --> 00:08:32.280
That's what devotion does.

00:08:32.280 --> 00:08:37.280
Whenever you're devoted to anything, it doesn't matter whether you're a Manchester United fan.

00:08:37.280 --> 00:08:40.280
For years I've not seen any success.

00:08:40.280 --> 00:08:43.280
You still have this devotion.

00:08:43.280 --> 00:08:44.280
Yeah?

00:08:44.280 --> 00:08:49.280
And so I hope I didn't ruffle any feathers.

00:08:49.280 --> 00:08:57.280
So devotion is when you set aside your time, talent, treasure, strength.

00:08:57.280 --> 00:09:01.280
I wouldn't use the same example for the Canucks.

00:09:01.280 --> 00:09:03.280
That's not devotion, that's delusion.

00:09:03.280 --> 00:09:09.280
It's just been years now.

00:09:09.280 --> 00:09:11.280
But some delusions are fun.

00:09:11.280 --> 00:09:16.280
Every year you hope again like I'm hoping again this year.

00:09:16.280 --> 00:09:23.280
So to devote is to set aside time, treasure, strength solely for a singular objective.

00:09:23.280 --> 00:09:27.280
And in this case, for Jesus it was the Father.

00:09:27.280 --> 00:09:31.280
And once you have intentional times of prayer, you'll find some other things developing.

00:09:31.280 --> 00:09:36.280
Like for instance, when you read those scriptures, you find that Jesus had a favorite place to go to.

00:09:36.280 --> 00:09:40.280
Jesus had favorite places to go to.

00:09:40.280 --> 00:09:43.280
And his favorite place was the mountain.

00:09:43.280 --> 00:09:45.280
Give him a mountain and he'd be happy.

00:09:45.280 --> 00:09:48.280
Sometimes favorite places betray your personality.

00:09:48.280 --> 00:09:51.280
You just are that type.

00:09:51.280 --> 00:09:56.280
I mean I would love mountains but someone would have to helicopter me there before I go climbing up one of those.

00:09:56.280 --> 00:09:59.280
So it depends on your personality.

00:09:59.280 --> 00:10:02.280
Sometimes the place that you go to depends on your personality type.

00:10:02.280 --> 00:10:08.280
Some people just need a couch facing the wall.

00:10:08.280 --> 00:10:13.280
But Jesus had a favorite place to go to.

00:10:13.280 --> 00:10:14.280
And he'd often be in the mountains.

00:10:14.280 --> 00:10:16.280
He'd disappear into them.

00:10:16.280 --> 00:10:20.280
He'd send them off in the boat and then he'd go up into the mountains again.

00:10:20.280 --> 00:10:22.280
Because these were times of intentional prayer.

00:10:22.280 --> 00:10:24.280
So where is your favorite place and how often do you go there?

00:10:24.280 --> 00:10:26.280
Where is your favorite place?

00:10:26.280 --> 00:10:28.280
And how often do you go there?

00:10:28.280 --> 00:10:34.280
And if the answer is I don't have a favorite place or yes I have a favorite place but I don't go there so often.

00:10:34.280 --> 00:10:37.280
It says something about you and IA.

00:10:37.280 --> 00:10:39.280
Where is your favorite place?

00:10:39.280 --> 00:10:40.280
You don't have to have one.

00:10:40.280 --> 00:10:43.280
That doesn't say anything about your prayer life.

00:10:43.280 --> 00:10:47.280
But do you have a favorite place and how often do you go there?

00:10:47.280 --> 00:10:52.280
The reason we aren't devoted.

00:10:52.280 --> 00:10:58.280
The reason we aren't devoted is perhaps because we are charismatic.

00:10:58.280 --> 00:11:06.280
Because we are or think we are charismatic and charismatic needs inspiration.

00:11:06.280 --> 00:11:09.280
And devotional times are not.

00:11:09.280 --> 00:11:14.280
Devotion is not inspiration.

00:11:14.280 --> 00:11:22.280
Devotion requires relationship may be based out of inspiration.

00:11:22.280 --> 00:11:25.280
Oh Jesus I really love you.

00:11:25.280 --> 00:11:29.280
But devotion is based out of discipline.

00:11:29.280 --> 00:11:35.280
Jesus I don't feel anything towards you but I'm going to anyways do what I'm supposed to do.

00:11:35.280 --> 00:11:38.280
So that I begin to feel the things that I need to feel towards you.

00:11:38.280 --> 00:11:39.280
One is discipline.

00:11:39.280 --> 00:11:41.280
Another one is inspiration.

00:11:41.280 --> 00:11:49.280
And so there's a high likelihood in most Pentecostal or charismatic or those kind of circles to wait for that inspirational moment.

00:11:49.280 --> 00:11:52.280
When something hits you and you feel really lovey-dovey about God.

00:11:52.280 --> 00:11:55.280
But devotion does not carry inspiration.

00:11:55.280 --> 00:11:56.280
Devotion requires discipline.

00:11:56.280 --> 00:12:01.280
Which is why most of us don't practice intentional times of prayer.

00:12:01.280 --> 00:12:05.280
And it will show in the weakness of our lives.

00:12:05.280 --> 00:12:09.280
Even though we may be highly gifted.

00:12:09.280 --> 00:12:12.280
Any questions?

00:12:12.280 --> 00:12:15.280
Any questions guys?

00:12:24.280 --> 00:12:31.280
Yeah one of the things you notice in many churches is that people know how to talk to God.

00:12:31.280 --> 00:12:37.280
And it's very respectful and very proper.

00:12:37.280 --> 00:12:39.280
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it.

00:12:39.280 --> 00:12:46.280
And then there's people that know how to have a conversation with God as Father.

00:12:46.280 --> 00:12:49.280
And that you don't find very often.

00:12:49.280 --> 00:12:52.280
But how do you balance that with the words of prayer?

00:12:52.280 --> 00:12:54.280
Yeah which starts with our Father.

00:12:54.280 --> 00:13:01.280
So the intent, Jesus' intent there was hey can I teach you how to speak to the Father?

00:13:01.280 --> 00:13:02.280
And so he teaches them that.

00:13:02.280 --> 00:13:06.280
I don't even know how it sounded in Aramaic.

00:13:06.280 --> 00:13:08.280
It may have sounded far more personal.

00:13:08.280 --> 00:13:10.280
I mean to think of this guys.

00:13:10.280 --> 00:13:13.280
It's the same word that's used in Aramaic that we use now.

00:13:13.280 --> 00:13:15.280
And that word Abba.

00:13:15.280 --> 00:13:20.280
There's something about the very, very, the idea of calling Abba itself does something.

00:13:20.280 --> 00:13:22.280
It's so common in so many cultures.

00:13:22.280 --> 00:13:23.280
You take the Arabic culture.

00:13:23.280 --> 00:13:24.280
You take Indian culture.

00:13:24.280 --> 00:13:25.280
You take different cultures.

00:13:25.280 --> 00:13:27.280
And the word Abba will have its variation.

00:13:27.280 --> 00:13:31.280
But it will still contain that Fatherness.

00:13:31.280 --> 00:13:35.280
And so I mean this is going off topic.

00:13:35.280 --> 00:13:40.280
But most of us have not a triune God but a quadruune God.

00:13:40.280 --> 00:13:43.280
We have, there's no word called quadruune.

00:13:43.280 --> 00:13:44.280
It's not even Greek.

00:13:44.280 --> 00:13:46.280
So we have the Father.

00:13:46.280 --> 00:13:47.280
We have the Son.

00:13:47.280 --> 00:13:48.280
We have the Holy Spirit.

00:13:48.280 --> 00:13:50.280
And then we have God.

00:13:50.280 --> 00:13:58.280
And most of our annoyance, resentment and bitterness is always against God.

00:13:58.280 --> 00:14:02.280
But the moment you shift to him as Father, you don't know how to be resentful to him.

00:14:02.280 --> 00:14:04.280
Because you know how good he is as a Father.

00:14:04.280 --> 00:14:09.280
The moment you shift to the Holy Spirit, you think to yourself, man, he guides me every day.

00:14:09.280 --> 00:14:10.280
He's so nice to me.

00:14:10.280 --> 00:14:11.280
He talks. I hear him.

00:14:11.280 --> 00:14:12.280
How can you be resentful to him?

00:14:12.280 --> 00:14:16.280
The moment you think of Jesus, oh gosh, every song is about him.

00:14:16.280 --> 00:14:18.280
I cry every time I think of him.

00:14:18.280 --> 00:14:19.280
But then who's left?

00:14:19.280 --> 00:14:22.280
Let's go make God a scapegoat.

00:14:22.280 --> 00:14:27.280
He's the one who faces most of our resentment and bitterness and stuff like that.

00:14:27.280 --> 00:14:33.280
Whenever I find myself bitter with God, I immediately run to the Father.

00:14:33.280 --> 00:14:39.280
And I say, sorry, it's like we got four gods, man.

00:14:39.280 --> 00:14:44.280
It's very hard to be angry with the Father.

00:14:44.280 --> 00:14:48.280
Because you know he's good.

00:14:48.280 --> 00:14:58.280
Every time you feel that rising against God, go quickly to the Father, Son of the Holy Spirit.

00:14:58.280 --> 00:14:59.280
What did the Father do?

00:14:59.280 --> 00:15:01.280
He personalized himself through Jesus.

00:15:01.280 --> 00:15:02.280
What did Jesus do?

00:15:02.280 --> 00:15:05.280
He personalized himself through the Holy Spirit.

00:15:05.280 --> 00:15:13.280
A relationship has to be not with God, but one of the persons of God.

00:15:13.280 --> 00:15:27.280
Theologically, people could shoot holes in that, but it's quite true.

00:15:27.280 --> 00:15:29.280
Devotion isn't inspired.

00:15:29.280 --> 00:15:31.280
It requires discipline.

00:15:31.280 --> 00:15:34.280
Prayer won't increase if not discipline.

00:15:34.280 --> 00:15:46.280
Prayer will not increase without discipline.

00:15:46.280 --> 00:15:48.280
You husbands know, right?

00:15:48.280 --> 00:15:54.280
You can chat to your wife eight hours out of the day, and then she gives you that look and says, we need to talk.

00:15:54.280 --> 00:15:59.280
And you think to yourself, I've been doing that for the last eight hours, but that we need to talk, you immediately know.

00:15:59.280 --> 00:16:00.280
This is at another level.

00:16:00.280 --> 00:16:01.280
It's very intentional.

00:16:01.280 --> 00:16:06.280
Sit down, put your phone away, and stop looking at the TV talk.

00:16:06.280 --> 00:16:12.280
And suddenly you see Vivek switching off Manchester United, just paying full attention.

00:16:12.280 --> 00:16:13.280
So that's how this works.

00:16:13.280 --> 00:16:15.280
It's very intentional.

00:16:15.280 --> 00:16:17.280
And it requires discipline.

00:16:17.280 --> 00:16:19.280
And guys, you might think, why talk about this?

00:16:19.280 --> 00:16:21.280
We know everything about prayer.

00:16:21.280 --> 00:16:25.280
We may know everything about prayer, but we do not know how to be intentionally prayerful.

00:16:25.280 --> 00:16:28.280
Nobody here does this well.

00:16:28.280 --> 00:16:33.280
And if you're doing it well, or if you increase in it, it will show.

00:16:33.280 --> 00:16:37.280
It'll show.

00:16:37.280 --> 00:16:42.280
You might say, but I do.

00:16:42.280 --> 00:16:43.280
Great.

00:16:43.280 --> 00:16:45.280
Do it more so that we may benefit.

00:16:45.280 --> 00:16:48.280
How will it show?

00:16:48.280 --> 00:16:51.280
At times, Dana, let's put it this way.

00:16:51.280 --> 00:16:55.280
If I spent time with you, it will show in certain times.

00:16:55.280 --> 00:17:00.280
If I spent time with you, it will show in certain changes in my life.

00:17:00.280 --> 00:17:01.280
Guaranteed.

00:17:01.280 --> 00:17:08.280
If I had deep, intentional conversations with you, if I spent time with you, it will begin to show in my life.

00:17:08.280 --> 00:17:14.280
If you as a human being can do that to me, it's multiple times with God.

00:17:14.280 --> 00:17:20.280
Because it gives you, I mean, look at what he says after the disciples can't cast out the demon out of the boy.

00:17:20.280 --> 00:17:24.280
He says to them, this kind only comes out by prayer.

00:17:24.280 --> 00:17:25.280
You guys have been with me.

00:17:25.280 --> 00:17:26.280
You're learning from me.

00:17:26.280 --> 00:17:29.280
You're having conversations with the son of God himself, who they acknowledge.

00:17:29.280 --> 00:17:34.280
But you still do not set aside times where you begin to trust.

00:17:34.280 --> 00:17:42.280
There's a statement I'll make later that quietness, to become quiet is to be is ruthlessly humbling.

00:17:42.280 --> 00:17:48.280
Where in the midst of a storm, in the midst of loudness, you ruthlessly humble yourself to be quiet.

00:17:48.280 --> 00:17:52.280
And in that quiet rely on God.

00:17:52.280 --> 00:17:56.280
Psalm 27, verse 4, I long to be in your house.

00:17:56.280 --> 00:17:58.280
I long to spend my time only with you.

00:17:58.280 --> 00:17:59.280
I want to spend time with you.

00:17:59.280 --> 00:18:00.280
When is he saying this?

00:18:00.280 --> 00:18:04.280
When there are threats being made like arrows that are falling.

00:18:04.280 --> 00:18:07.280
When there are people that are coming against him.

00:18:07.280 --> 00:18:14.280
In the midst of that, he says, if I could only find that time, I would be okay.

00:18:14.280 --> 00:18:20.280
That is something we haven't learned because of, because we are so busy, right?

00:18:20.280 --> 00:18:26.280
And legitimately busy. It's not like sometimes we aren't even wasting time.

00:18:30.280 --> 00:18:33.280
The other thing is guys, prayer time can become a ritual.

00:18:33.280 --> 00:18:37.280
And so people say, we don't want to be ritualistic in our prayer time.

00:18:37.280 --> 00:18:39.280
You're right. Prayer time.

00:18:39.280 --> 00:18:46.280
But remember, the time you spend praying intentionally can become a ritual.

00:18:46.280 --> 00:18:47.280
And it's okay.

00:18:47.280 --> 00:18:52.280
The content should not become ritualistic.

00:18:52.280 --> 00:18:55.280
Should not become ritualistic.

00:18:55.280 --> 00:18:57.280
The time can be a ritual.

00:18:57.280 --> 00:18:59.280
Set aside time.

00:18:59.280 --> 00:19:01.280
Ah, don't disturb me between six and seven.

00:19:01.280 --> 00:19:03.280
That sounds so ritualistic.

00:19:03.280 --> 00:19:04.280
Yes, it is.

00:19:04.280 --> 00:19:06.280
But try saying that to your boss.

00:19:06.280 --> 00:19:08.280
Nine to five doesn't work for me.

00:19:08.280 --> 00:19:09.280
I usually wake up at 10.30.

00:19:09.280 --> 00:19:11.280
Can we go 11 to eight?

00:19:11.280 --> 00:19:14.280
The time cannot.

00:19:14.280 --> 00:19:16.280
You can't blame the time for being ritualistic.

00:19:16.280 --> 00:19:18.280
But the content can't get ritualistic.

00:19:18.280 --> 00:19:20.280
Content varies.

00:19:20.280 --> 00:19:21.280
Because now what are you doing?

00:19:21.280 --> 00:19:26.280
You're taking your ability to converse out of the relationship you already have.

00:19:26.280 --> 00:19:28.280
And you're putting it in a box.

00:19:28.280 --> 00:19:30.280
And what's that box?

00:19:30.280 --> 00:19:31.280
Devotion.

00:19:31.280 --> 00:19:32.280
And what does that require?

00:19:32.280 --> 00:19:33.280
Discipline.

00:19:33.280 --> 00:19:35.280
Will it happen in a day?

00:19:35.280 --> 00:19:36.280
No.

00:19:36.280 --> 00:19:37.280
Will it happen over a period of time?

00:19:37.280 --> 00:19:38.280
Yes.

00:19:38.280 --> 00:19:40.280
Do you know that I'm actually walking two days a week?

00:19:40.280 --> 00:19:42.280
Will it ever get to seven?

00:19:42.280 --> 00:19:44.280
I pray God no.

00:19:44.280 --> 00:19:47.280
But two days a week took me six weeks to get to.

00:19:51.280 --> 00:19:53.280
Most days I'm walking in airports anyways.

00:19:53.280 --> 00:19:56.280
But this is like devotional walking.

00:19:59.280 --> 00:20:00.280
It does nothing for you.

00:20:00.280 --> 00:20:02.280
I step on the waiting machine after that.

00:20:02.280 --> 00:20:04.280
It does nothing for you.

00:20:05.280 --> 00:20:07.280
But it brings discipline into your life.

00:20:08.280 --> 00:20:10.280
And one day I will arm wrestle you.

00:20:10.280 --> 00:20:12.280
And I will beat you.

00:20:15.280 --> 00:20:18.280
The day I get to walking on all my foes, you know that the time has come.

00:20:26.280 --> 00:20:29.280
Once we get to this place, to answer Diana's question,

00:20:29.280 --> 00:20:34.280
what happens is prayer then will fuel faith,

00:20:35.280 --> 00:20:37.280
will fuel intimacy.

00:20:37.280 --> 00:20:40.280
And if faith and intimacy are fueled,

00:20:40.280 --> 00:20:43.280
then it is natural that it fuels authority.

00:20:43.280 --> 00:20:46.280
Because all authority is based on intimacy.

00:20:46.280 --> 00:20:48.280
Intimacy is based on time.

00:20:48.280 --> 00:20:51.280
You cannot be intimate with someone without spending time with them.

00:20:59.280 --> 00:21:02.280
So prayer fuels faith, prayer fuels intimacy,

00:21:02.280 --> 00:21:05.280
and prayer therefore fuels authority.

00:21:05.280 --> 00:21:07.280
And a man that has this or a woman that has this,

00:21:07.280 --> 00:21:09.280
it will be evident in their lives.

00:21:09.280 --> 00:21:10.280
You will see a difference.

00:21:10.280 --> 00:21:13.280
When a church begins to behave like this, it's even more evident.

00:21:14.280 --> 00:21:17.280
I'm really not talking about having a planned Bible reading.

00:21:17.280 --> 00:21:20.280
Because that's what usually happens after a message like this.

00:21:20.280 --> 00:21:22.280
Everyone gets a planned Bible reading.

00:21:22.280 --> 00:21:24.280
It is important, but it is not the only thing.

00:21:24.280 --> 00:21:25.280
We'll talk about that.

00:21:25.280 --> 00:21:27.280
Any questions, guys?

00:21:28.280 --> 00:21:31.280
Will you talk more about the art sense of prayer?

00:21:31.280 --> 00:21:33.280
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:21:37.280 --> 00:21:40.280
We said also last time that crisis activates prayer time.

00:21:41.280 --> 00:21:43.280
If God could send us all a crisis today,

00:21:44.280 --> 00:21:46.280
we'd be praying like crazy overnight.

00:21:48.280 --> 00:21:50.280
Crisis always activates prayer.

00:21:50.280 --> 00:21:54.280
But when there is no crisis or no pressing crisis,

00:21:54.280 --> 00:21:55.280
there's this contentment.

00:21:55.280 --> 00:21:56.280
It's a sluggish contentment.

00:21:57.280 --> 00:21:58.280
It's a sluggish contentment.

00:21:58.280 --> 00:21:59.280
Things are going well.

00:21:59.280 --> 00:22:01.280
But sluggish contentment is like leprosy.

00:22:02.280 --> 00:22:04.280
Sluggish contentment is like leprosy

00:22:04.280 --> 00:22:08.280
in the sense that it desensitizes you to your bankruptcy.

00:22:08.280 --> 00:22:12.280
It desensitizes you to your bankruptcy, to your spiritual poverty.

00:22:12.280 --> 00:22:13.280
It desensitizes you.

00:22:14.280 --> 00:22:15.280
Because we have everything we need.

00:22:15.280 --> 00:22:16.280
There is no crisis forming.

00:22:16.280 --> 00:22:19.280
There's no need to exert extra faith.

00:22:19.280 --> 00:22:20.280
It's like leprosy.

00:22:21.280 --> 00:22:22.280
It desensitizes you.

00:22:22.280 --> 00:22:23.280
It desensitizes you.

00:22:23.280 --> 00:22:25.280
You're not even aware of what you need.

00:22:26.280 --> 00:22:27.280
And it dulls prayer.

00:22:29.280 --> 00:22:32.280
Pray God that he doesn't send crisis to solve this, eh?

00:22:41.280 --> 00:22:42.280
Any questions?

00:22:44.280 --> 00:22:45.280
Alrighty.

00:22:45.280 --> 00:22:47.280
So let's move on to time.

00:22:48.280 --> 00:22:50.280
What does Satan want to steal from us?

00:22:50.280 --> 00:22:52.280
John 10, 10 says he comes to steal, kill and destroy.

00:22:52.280 --> 00:22:56.280
We don't realize that one of the things Satan tries to steal from us is time.

00:22:57.280 --> 00:23:00.280
Among other things, John 10, 10 applies to time too.

00:23:00.280 --> 00:23:01.280
We don't think so.

00:23:03.280 --> 00:23:05.280
Jesus came to give life and life more abundant.

00:23:05.280 --> 00:23:06.280
Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy.

00:23:06.280 --> 00:23:10.280
What is one of the things he steals from everybody in this room?

00:23:10.280 --> 00:23:12.280
One of the things he steals from you is time.

00:23:13.280 --> 00:23:14.280
He steals time.

00:23:15.280 --> 00:23:17.280
The one who is timeless, the one who is eternal,

00:23:17.280 --> 00:23:19.280
has time that he has given us.

00:23:20.280 --> 00:23:21.280
He is stolen by the enemy.

00:23:22.280 --> 00:23:23.280
And we are poorer for it.

00:23:24.280 --> 00:23:25.280
He steals time.

00:23:27.280 --> 00:23:29.280
But here's the other ugliness to this.

00:23:30.280 --> 00:23:32.280
He knows, as in the devil knows he is short on time.

00:23:34.280 --> 00:23:35.280
The devil knows he is short on time.

00:23:36.280 --> 00:23:38.280
And he is working really hard with the time he has.

00:23:39.280 --> 00:23:41.280
Our enemy knows he is short on time.

00:23:41.280 --> 00:23:43.280
And he works really hard with the time he has

00:23:44.280 --> 00:23:45.280
to steal time from us.

00:23:51.280 --> 00:23:56.280
And so, this is such a critical factor for us guys.

00:23:59.280 --> 00:24:01.280
This Danish theologian, I rarely quote people,

00:24:01.280 --> 00:24:04.280
but he had this beautiful line here.

00:24:04.280 --> 00:24:09.280
He says, the result of busyness,

00:24:10.280 --> 00:24:12.280
the result of busyness,

00:24:14.280 --> 00:24:18.280
is that an individual

00:24:20.280 --> 00:24:21.280
is seldom permitted,

00:24:25.280 --> 00:24:30.280
is seldom permitted to form a heart.

00:24:34.280 --> 00:24:39.280
The result of busyness is that an individual

00:24:40.280 --> 00:24:43.280
is seldom permitted to form a heart.

00:24:44.280 --> 00:24:46.280
As in, it stifles the heart.

00:24:46.280 --> 00:24:49.280
It prevents you from returning to that nucleus

00:24:49.280 --> 00:24:51.280
of being a much loved child.

00:24:51.280 --> 00:24:54.280
Take away time, get busy,

00:24:54.280 --> 00:24:57.280
and your heart never gets formed.

00:24:57.280 --> 00:24:59.280
And the things of God never get formed.

00:24:59.280 --> 00:25:00.280
Take compassion.

00:25:00.280 --> 00:25:03.280
You think you can come up with insta-compassion?

00:25:04.280 --> 00:25:05.280
Takes time.

00:25:07.280 --> 00:25:10.280
Anything that God does through me or in me

00:25:10.280 --> 00:25:12.280
requires a lot of time.

00:25:12.280 --> 00:25:15.280
Anything that God does through me or in me

00:25:15.280 --> 00:25:18.280
requires time, and he needs to form it.

00:25:18.280 --> 00:25:20.280
And that forming takes time.

00:25:20.280 --> 00:25:22.280
But because I don't have time,

00:25:22.280 --> 00:25:24.280
I have to come up with insta-things.

00:25:25.280 --> 00:25:27.280
Insta-compassion, insta-mercy.

00:25:27.280 --> 00:25:29.280
And they are always sound bites

00:25:30.280 --> 00:25:32.280
because the heart is not formed.

00:25:32.280 --> 00:25:36.280
I mean, I would personally prefer that children be born

00:25:36.280 --> 00:25:40.280
around 13 years old or 14 years old.

00:25:42.280 --> 00:25:44.280
Like, they're ready.

00:25:44.280 --> 00:25:46.280
You can train them, you can get them going.

00:25:46.280 --> 00:25:49.280
For my God, they come so helpless.

00:25:50.280 --> 00:25:52.280
And it requires time.

00:25:53.280 --> 00:25:55.280
It's very deliberate.

00:25:55.280 --> 00:25:57.280
And you ask a mother and she'll tell you,

00:25:57.280 --> 00:26:00.280
I hate that my child is growing up so fast.

00:26:00.280 --> 00:26:01.280
I don't understand that.

00:26:01.280 --> 00:26:04.280
You would think that's what everyone desires, but no.

00:26:05.280 --> 00:26:07.280
It takes time.

00:26:07.280 --> 00:26:11.280
Everything that God does that is of any value requires time.

00:26:12.280 --> 00:26:16.280
The things that he wants to pour into me and pour out of me require time.

00:26:16.280 --> 00:26:18.280
And therefore, this guy says, the result of busyness

00:26:18.280 --> 00:26:22.280
is that an individual is very seldom permitted to form a heart about anything.

00:26:22.280 --> 00:26:24.280
To form a heart.

00:26:28.280 --> 00:26:31.280
And this legitimate busyness,

00:26:31.280 --> 00:26:35.280
doesn't matter whether you're retired or whether you're working, it's all the same, eh?

00:26:38.280 --> 00:26:40.280
Kirka.

00:26:42.280 --> 00:26:44.280
It stifles the life of the heart.

00:26:44.280 --> 00:26:47.280
I've said this ages ago, I remember saying this,

00:26:47.280 --> 00:26:52.280
that the most successful Christians that I've met

00:26:52.280 --> 00:26:56.280
are Christians who know what it is to be a much loved child.

00:26:56.280 --> 00:26:58.280
Any successful Christian you will meet,

00:26:58.280 --> 00:27:01.280
successful by any standard you use,

00:27:01.280 --> 00:27:03.280
other than preaching and TV,

00:27:03.280 --> 00:27:07.280
any successful Christian you meet

00:27:07.280 --> 00:27:11.280
will be a Christian who has found that one fundamental thing

00:27:11.280 --> 00:27:12.280
and has gotten it.

00:27:12.280 --> 00:27:13.280
And what is that?

00:27:13.280 --> 00:27:16.280
I am a much loved child.

00:27:16.280 --> 00:27:18.280
He's gotten that somewhere inside him.

00:27:18.280 --> 00:27:22.280
That is his identity, that is his description and definition of himself.

00:27:22.280 --> 00:27:25.280
But to come to that place of I am a much loved child

00:27:25.280 --> 00:27:28.280
on a regular constant basis, on a daily basis,

00:27:28.280 --> 00:27:33.280
which is never undone, which remains solid,

00:27:33.280 --> 00:27:36.280
regardless of what's happening, remains solid,

00:27:36.280 --> 00:27:38.280
that only happens with time,

00:27:38.280 --> 00:27:40.280
because the heart has to be formed.

00:27:51.280 --> 00:27:54.280
So the secret is not scheduling.

00:27:54.280 --> 00:27:56.280
The secret to this is not,

00:27:56.280 --> 00:27:59.280
let me get more organized,

00:27:59.280 --> 00:28:03.280
or let me get more, let me schedule my life a little better.

00:28:03.280 --> 00:28:06.280
That's not the secret.

00:28:06.280 --> 00:28:08.280
It's more along the lines of,

00:28:08.280 --> 00:28:10.280
can I slow life down?

00:28:10.280 --> 00:28:13.280
Can I come back into a place of quietness?

00:28:13.280 --> 00:28:15.280
Can I combine that with trust?

00:28:15.280 --> 00:28:17.280
Can I combine that with rest?

00:28:17.280 --> 00:28:19.280
Where's that found?

00:28:19.280 --> 00:28:22.280
Isaiah 30, verse 15.

00:28:22.280 --> 00:28:25.280
In quietness and trust is your salvation.

00:28:25.280 --> 00:28:28.280
In returning and rest, you will find peace.

00:28:29.280 --> 00:28:33.280
The ability to slow things down.

00:28:33.280 --> 00:28:35.280
It's very hard to slow things down,

00:28:35.280 --> 00:28:37.280
because the demand is on you, right?

00:28:37.280 --> 00:28:42.280
To hasten things up, to slow it down.

00:28:42.280 --> 00:28:49.280
And that is the ruthless humbling that is required.

00:28:49.280 --> 00:28:52.280
To slow things down.

00:28:52.280 --> 00:28:56.280
Isaiah 30, here's how the Spirit of God starts the chapter.

00:28:56.280 --> 00:28:59.280
You're making alliances that I did not ask you to make.

00:28:59.280 --> 00:29:02.280
You're running after the Egyptians who you think will help you.

00:29:02.280 --> 00:29:04.280
You think all this is going to work out.

00:29:04.280 --> 00:29:06.280
You're lighting fires that I'm not lighting.

00:29:06.280 --> 00:29:08.280
So here's what I want to say to you.

00:29:08.280 --> 00:29:10.280
Come, return.

00:29:10.280 --> 00:29:12.280
In returning and rest.

00:29:12.280 --> 00:29:15.280
In quietness and trust, you will find rest.

00:29:15.280 --> 00:29:17.280
In returning, you will find salvation.

00:29:17.280 --> 00:29:18.280
Come back.

00:29:18.280 --> 00:29:20.280
Slow things down.

00:29:20.280 --> 00:29:22.280
Come into a place of rest.

00:29:22.280 --> 00:29:24.280
And this we do not know how to do.

00:29:24.280 --> 00:29:26.280
It's being robbed every day.

00:29:26.280 --> 00:29:29.280
You must understand that on one hand it is our business.

00:29:29.280 --> 00:29:33.280
Things like, remember you carry the world in your pocket.

00:29:33.280 --> 00:29:36.280
I'm talking about the phone.

00:29:36.280 --> 00:29:38.280
You carry the world in your pocket.

00:29:38.280 --> 00:29:40.280
We're trying to free ourselves from the world,

00:29:40.280 --> 00:29:42.280
but we carry the world in our pocket.

00:29:42.280 --> 00:29:44.280
You think that doesn't play its demands on us?

00:29:44.280 --> 00:29:46.280
It is impossible, impossible guys,

00:29:46.280 --> 00:29:50.280
to have a time of prayer without putting your phone at a distance from you,

00:29:50.280 --> 00:29:53.280
where it'll inconvenience you to get up and go check it.

00:29:53.280 --> 00:29:55.280
We are Pavlov's dogs.

00:30:01.280 --> 00:30:05.280
You put it on vibrate, we can hear the vibrate 20 meters away, man.

00:30:05.280 --> 00:30:07.280
Fine tune to it.

00:30:10.280 --> 00:30:14.280
It is not possible to cultivate a time of devoted prayer with your phone next to you.

00:30:14.280 --> 00:30:15.280
Not possible.

00:30:15.280 --> 00:30:18.280
Get this thing called a Bible that has pages.

00:30:23.280 --> 00:30:25.280
Quietness.

00:30:25.280 --> 00:30:33.280
Quietness is the ruthless humbling of the heart.

00:30:36.280 --> 00:30:41.280
In the midst, in the storm, of the heart, in the storm,

00:30:41.280 --> 00:30:47.280
to willingly, to willingly, to willingly,

00:30:47.280 --> 00:30:51.280
in the midst, in the storm, of the heart, in the storm,

00:30:51.280 --> 00:31:01.280
to willingly locate and rely on majesty.

00:31:01.280 --> 00:31:05.280
Take that to the bank, guys.

00:31:05.280 --> 00:31:07.280
Quietness.

00:31:12.280 --> 00:31:18.280
Quietness is the ruthless humbling of the heart.

00:31:18.280 --> 00:31:21.280
It doesn't take nothing for an excuse.

00:31:21.280 --> 00:31:26.280
It chops down your text messages and WhatsApps and Facebook and puts it away.

00:31:26.280 --> 00:31:29.280
It takes care of the soccer teams and the hockey teams.

00:31:29.280 --> 00:31:32.280
It shuts the noise. It is ruthless.

00:31:32.280 --> 00:31:34.280
And then there is the humbling part.

00:31:34.280 --> 00:31:35.280
And what is the humbling?

00:31:35.280 --> 00:31:38.280
That even though there is a storm raging around me,

00:31:38.280 --> 00:31:41.280
I will humble myself to not deal with the storm.

00:31:41.280 --> 00:31:43.280
I know how to mitigate the storm.

00:31:43.280 --> 00:31:45.280
I know how to navigate through it.

00:31:45.280 --> 00:31:46.280
I know how to deal with it.

00:31:46.280 --> 00:31:48.280
I have the wherewithal.

00:31:48.280 --> 00:31:50.280
I just need to make one call here and one call there,

00:31:50.280 --> 00:31:52.280
and there will be people that will help me with the storm.

00:31:52.280 --> 00:31:56.280
But in the middle of it, I will ruthlessly humble myself and say,

00:31:56.280 --> 00:32:01.280
I will not use my mind, my hands, my strength, my money, my contacts.

00:32:01.280 --> 00:32:04.280
I will not use it, but I will go into a place of quiet,

00:32:04.280 --> 00:32:09.280
where I will first locate and then I will rely on majesty.

00:32:11.280 --> 00:32:13.280
It will shift your heart and shape your heart.

00:32:13.280 --> 00:32:19.280
And it will shape your heart to meet that storm so head on that it will go right through it.

00:32:20.280 --> 00:32:22.280
But my God, it is difficult.

00:32:27.280 --> 00:32:29.280
No, it doesn't come with any domain.

00:32:29.280 --> 00:32:30.280
I wish it did.

00:32:30.280 --> 00:32:32.280
I would be so much better off by now.

00:32:37.280 --> 00:32:38.280
Any questions, guys?

00:32:39.280 --> 00:32:41.280
And if you don't do that, then I will tell you what else will kick in.

00:32:41.280 --> 00:32:43.280
Self-reliance.

00:32:44.280 --> 00:32:45.280
This increases with age, eh?

00:32:45.280 --> 00:32:46.280
Self-reliance.

00:32:47.280 --> 00:32:49.280
Because you know how to do it now.

00:32:49.280 --> 00:32:50.280
You have done it so many times.

00:32:51.280 --> 00:32:52.280
Irrational fears.

00:32:54.280 --> 00:32:57.280
Oh my God, if I don't deal with this, what is going to happen?

00:32:57.280 --> 00:32:58.280
And ruin.

00:32:58.280 --> 00:33:00.280
You will find all this in Isaiah 30.

00:33:01.280 --> 00:33:05.280
The Holy Spirit literally says, hey, you are being reliant on yourself.

00:33:05.280 --> 00:33:08.280
Please, please come back into quietness and trust and rest.

00:33:08.280 --> 00:33:11.280
Hey, if you don't, fears will begin to grip you.

00:33:11.280 --> 00:33:12.280
You will run here and there.

00:33:12.280 --> 00:33:14.280
It will only get worse.

00:33:14.280 --> 00:33:15.280
Please stop.

00:33:15.280 --> 00:33:16.280
If you don't, you will come to ruin.

00:33:16.280 --> 00:33:20.280
And then in verse 18, Isaiah 30, verse 18, God still says,

00:33:20.280 --> 00:33:23.280
after you have done all this, I will still be gracious and I will come and help you.

00:33:23.280 --> 00:33:25.280
So it's not like he abandons us at the end of the day.

00:33:25.280 --> 00:33:28.280
Isaiah 30, 18 says, but I will be gracious to you.

00:33:28.280 --> 00:33:29.280
I will show you mercy.

00:33:29.280 --> 00:33:30.280
I'll gather you in.

00:33:30.280 --> 00:33:36.280
But why go through self-reliance, irrational fears and ruin before you come to grace and mercy?

00:33:39.280 --> 00:33:40.280
Any questions, guys?

00:33:47.280 --> 00:33:48.280
So how do I create time then?

00:33:48.280 --> 00:33:49.280
How do I create time?

00:33:49.280 --> 00:33:50.280
How do I create time?

00:33:50.280 --> 00:33:54.280
One, priorities.

00:33:54.280 --> 00:33:57.280
Whatever you prioritize, you'll have time for.

00:33:57.280 --> 00:34:01.280
Whatever you prioritize, you'll have time for.

00:34:01.280 --> 00:34:07.280
And it'll affect, it'll influence your affections, as in what your heart runs after.

00:34:07.280 --> 00:34:10.280
And it'll affect your direction.

00:34:10.280 --> 00:34:13.280
Always remember that, eh?

00:34:13.280 --> 00:34:16.280
Priorities.

00:34:16.280 --> 00:34:17.280
Come.

00:34:17.280 --> 00:34:21.280
I'm okay with you coming.

00:34:21.280 --> 00:34:23.280
Oi.

00:34:23.280 --> 00:34:26.280
Oi.

00:34:26.280 --> 00:34:29.280
Oi.

00:34:31.280 --> 00:34:32.280
Sing a little.

00:34:35.280 --> 00:34:36.280
I'm all right.

00:34:36.280 --> 00:34:37.280
You're all right.

00:34:37.280 --> 00:34:38.280
All right.

00:34:38.280 --> 00:34:39.280
You're all right.

00:34:39.280 --> 00:34:40.120
Hi.

00:34:43.080 --> 00:34:43.920
Sing.

00:34:47.440 --> 00:34:48.280
Hi.

00:34:50.360 --> 00:34:51.280
Priorities.

00:34:52.480 --> 00:34:54.240
How do I create time?

00:34:54.240 --> 00:34:57.680
I create time to, guys, we don't need to labor this.

00:34:57.680 --> 00:34:58.920
You know this is true.

00:34:58.920 --> 00:35:01.600
Whatever you prioritize, you have time for.

00:35:03.160 --> 00:35:06.540
Here's a question you need to ask yourself now.

00:35:06.540 --> 00:35:09.220
What do you think God expects of you in any given day?

00:35:09.220 --> 00:35:12.140
What do you think God expects of you any given day?

00:35:16.020 --> 00:35:17.080
One thing only.

00:35:18.060 --> 00:35:19.340
Love him.

00:35:19.340 --> 00:35:20.180
That's it.

00:35:23.580 --> 00:35:26.780
The one thing he expects of you every day,

00:35:26.780 --> 00:35:31.060
any given day, is can you love me?

00:35:31.060 --> 00:35:34.780
Can you receive my love and then love me?

00:35:34.780 --> 00:35:37.500
When he says love him, he always means,

00:35:37.520 --> 00:35:40.860
can you come and receive my love so you can love me back?

00:35:40.860 --> 00:35:41.700
When do we see this?

00:35:41.700 --> 00:35:43.140
Luke 1042.

00:35:43.140 --> 00:35:44.660
What's the story?

00:35:44.660 --> 00:35:46.880
Marsha, Marsha, why are you so anxious about everything?

00:35:46.880 --> 00:35:48.140
Mary has chosen the right portion

00:35:48.140 --> 00:35:50.900
and it'll never be taken away from her.

00:35:50.900 --> 00:35:53.680
There's only one thing that he expects of you every day.

00:35:53.680 --> 00:35:55.800
Everything else comes out of that.

00:35:55.800 --> 00:35:57.620
You don't have that, you got squat.

00:36:02.500 --> 00:36:05.400
This is why Christianity is so common to everybody.

00:36:05.400 --> 00:36:07.020
There's no special people here.

00:36:07.540 --> 00:36:08.780
It's the same requirement of everyone.

00:36:08.780 --> 00:36:11.300
Doesn't matter how famous a pastor you are

00:36:11.300 --> 00:36:14.860
or whether you're a newbie who just started today.

00:36:14.860 --> 00:36:16.260
The requirement is the same.

00:36:17.540 --> 00:36:19.860
What is it that God expects of you any given day?

00:36:19.860 --> 00:36:22.820
Love, not productivity, not efficiency,

00:36:22.820 --> 00:36:27.820
just can you find time to be loved and to love?

00:36:32.380 --> 00:36:34.100
Again, it requires time.

00:36:34.100 --> 00:36:35.500
You know, you have children.

00:36:35.620 --> 00:36:36.460
You know.

00:36:41.380 --> 00:36:43.380
The main thing must become the main thing.

00:36:44.840 --> 00:36:48.100
And slowing down is one way you allow this to happen.

00:36:48.100 --> 00:36:49.060
Slow down.

00:36:51.900 --> 00:36:52.740
Find time.

00:36:54.920 --> 00:36:58.300
Slowing down always allows you to sense God.

00:36:58.300 --> 00:37:01.700
In the midst of the complexities of the world,

00:37:01.700 --> 00:37:04.820
you will always be able to sense God when you slow down,

00:37:04.820 --> 00:37:07.420
which is why many weeks ago I said,

00:37:07.420 --> 00:37:10.020
even if you try getting to places in time,

00:37:10.020 --> 00:37:12.340
you will get to sense God more

00:37:12.340 --> 00:37:14.060
than when you're driving in haste.

00:37:16.100 --> 00:37:19.500
It's crazy how a simple thing like that

00:37:19.500 --> 00:37:21.160
changes what you see.

00:37:22.100 --> 00:37:23.620
Iris, stop looking at Derek.

00:37:27.860 --> 00:37:29.940
Psalm 27, verse four.

00:37:29.940 --> 00:37:31.440
Let me just read it.

00:37:31.440 --> 00:37:33.180
Psalm 27, verse four.

00:37:34.820 --> 00:37:36.320
Psalm 27, verse four.

00:37:39.380 --> 00:37:41.060
Psalm 27, verse four.

00:37:41.060 --> 00:37:44.920
One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek,

00:37:44.920 --> 00:37:46.920
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

00:37:46.920 --> 00:37:50.240
all the days of my life to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

00:37:50.240 --> 00:37:51.940
to seek him in the temple.

00:37:51.940 --> 00:37:53.340
Let me read that again, eh?

00:37:56.820 --> 00:38:00.680
One thing I ask of the Lord, and this is what I seek,

00:38:00.680 --> 00:38:02.640
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

00:38:02.680 --> 00:38:05.880
all the days of my life to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

00:38:05.880 --> 00:38:06.820
and to seek him in his temple.

00:38:06.820 --> 00:38:08.720
Gazing and seeking requires time,

00:38:08.720 --> 00:38:09.940
but look when he's writing this.

00:38:09.940 --> 00:38:11.240
Verse two.

00:38:11.240 --> 00:38:14.520
When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh,

00:38:14.520 --> 00:38:16.580
when my enemies and my foes attack me.

00:38:17.600 --> 00:38:18.440
Verse three.

00:38:18.440 --> 00:38:20.520
Though an army besiege me.

00:38:20.520 --> 00:38:21.680
Verse 12.

00:38:21.680 --> 00:38:23.560
Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes

00:38:23.560 --> 00:38:26.040
for false witnesses rise up against me,

00:38:26.040 --> 00:38:27.480
breathing out violence.

00:38:27.480 --> 00:38:30.360
In the middle of that, he knows.

00:38:30.360 --> 00:38:34.040
This boy who would sit on a rock and write songs

00:38:34.040 --> 00:38:36.760
and beat up the predatory animals

00:38:36.760 --> 00:38:38.360
that would try to come and take his sheep,

00:38:38.360 --> 00:38:42.040
this boy knows what it is to have the ability

00:38:42.040 --> 00:38:43.640
to quiet himself down.

00:38:47.000 --> 00:38:49.260
It's critical to our existence as a church.

00:38:53.840 --> 00:38:54.680
The next one.

00:38:56.040 --> 00:38:56.880
Discipline.

00:38:57.200 --> 00:38:58.120
Discipline.

00:39:05.920 --> 00:39:07.840
How do I create time?

00:39:07.840 --> 00:39:09.840
This is all under how do I create time.

00:39:09.840 --> 00:39:12.360
How do I create time?

00:39:12.360 --> 00:39:14.480
I create time through priorities.

00:39:14.480 --> 00:39:16.580
I create time through discipline.

00:39:16.580 --> 00:39:19.800
As in, can I diligently apply and subdue my flesh

00:39:19.800 --> 00:39:21.080
to create a habit?

00:39:21.080 --> 00:39:25.580
Can I diligently apply myself?

00:39:27.320 --> 00:39:32.320
And like Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9.27, train my body.

00:39:36.760 --> 00:39:40.760
Or can I diligently apply myself and subdue my flesh?

00:39:45.920 --> 00:39:50.320
Subdue my flesh to create a habit.

00:39:50.320 --> 00:39:53.320
And then can I move from discipline to delight?

00:39:53.320 --> 00:39:56.320
All discipline must end up in delight.

00:39:56.320 --> 00:39:59.320
Begin in this place called delight.

00:39:59.320 --> 00:40:01.840
Let it provoke you to into discipline

00:40:01.840 --> 00:40:03.840
and then have you end in delight.

00:40:07.840 --> 00:40:09.640
I know I've said this many times before,

00:40:09.640 --> 00:40:12.280
but why does an athlete get up in the morning

00:40:12.280 --> 00:40:14.280
and then have to go to the gym?

00:40:14.280 --> 00:40:16.280
Why does an athlete have to go to the gym?

00:40:16.280 --> 00:40:18.280
Why does an athlete have to go to the gym?

00:40:18.280 --> 00:40:20.880
Why does an athlete get up in the morning

00:40:20.880 --> 00:40:23.180
and run 10 kilometers?

00:40:23.180 --> 00:40:24.020
Why?

00:40:24.020 --> 00:40:25.400
Because he delights in running.

00:40:26.200 --> 00:40:29.400
And so he gets up and it's a discipline of running.

00:40:29.400 --> 00:40:32.060
And then there is delight after when he wins an award.

00:40:33.880 --> 00:40:36.440
But it is creating habits.

00:40:36.440 --> 00:40:41.440
Spiritual exercises that were of old got dry,

00:40:41.560 --> 00:40:44.140
but my God, they were helpful in creating habits.

00:40:44.140 --> 00:40:46.760
Anybody here who does anything successfully

00:40:46.760 --> 00:40:49.200
is because you created a habit.

00:40:49.200 --> 00:40:51.400
You think May woke up one day

00:40:51.400 --> 00:40:54.720
and just started skiing down a hill and voila,

00:40:54.720 --> 00:40:56.680
she was a great skier.

00:40:56.680 --> 00:40:57.880
Is that how it happened?

00:40:59.280 --> 00:41:00.120
Yeah.

00:41:01.440 --> 00:41:02.560
Don tried that.

00:41:04.200 --> 00:41:05.040
How did that go?

00:41:07.600 --> 00:41:08.440
He stopped.

00:41:09.640 --> 00:41:12.240
He was delighting in it until his legs went this way.

00:41:12.240 --> 00:41:15.320
And then he said, this is not for me.

00:41:15.320 --> 00:41:16.380
Yeah.

00:41:16.380 --> 00:41:19.420
So anyone here who has any success

00:41:19.420 --> 00:41:23.500
with anything in your life is because of a habit.

00:41:26.860 --> 00:41:29.700
Third, rewards.

00:41:29.700 --> 00:41:33.300
Habits of grace, habits of grace,

00:41:33.300 --> 00:41:36.580
create channels for God's power and love to flow.

00:41:36.580 --> 00:41:38.300
Habits of grace,

00:41:40.420 --> 00:41:43.540
habits, godly habits, create channels

00:41:43.540 --> 00:41:45.220
for God's power and love to flow.

00:41:46.460 --> 00:41:50.700
Next one, rewards.

00:41:53.540 --> 00:41:54.940
There are rewards, man.

00:41:57.420 --> 00:42:01.940
There are rewards to creating time for things, for prayer.

00:42:01.940 --> 00:42:05.380
In fact, in Psalm 90, verse 12, it says,

00:42:05.380 --> 00:42:10.380
oh God, if I number my days,

00:42:10.860 --> 00:42:15.860
I will increase in the one thing

00:42:18.260 --> 00:42:22.700
that we are all short of and need desperately in wisdom.

00:42:24.220 --> 00:42:26.580
Anyone who knows how to steward time

00:42:26.580 --> 00:42:27.820
will increase in wisdom.

00:42:29.140 --> 00:42:31.540
Anyone who knows how to steward time

00:42:31.540 --> 00:42:32.820
will increase in wisdom.

00:42:35.060 --> 00:42:36.980
This might sometimes require sitting down and saying,

00:42:36.980 --> 00:42:40.260
okay, I gotta throw this out, not do this, not do this.

00:42:41.140 --> 00:42:42.140
That's required, eh?

00:42:42.140 --> 00:42:43.500
That's another hard thing.

00:42:43.500 --> 00:42:45.060
It's like trying to clean a house,

00:42:45.060 --> 00:42:46.460
you don't know what to throw out,

00:42:46.460 --> 00:42:48.660
then you take everything into the next house.

00:42:53.140 --> 00:42:56.860
Anyone who knows how to,

00:42:56.860 --> 00:43:00.460
anyone who knows how to steward time

00:43:00.460 --> 00:43:02.180
will increase in wisdom.

00:43:02.180 --> 00:43:05.780
On, on one hand, God says, ask me and I'll give you wisdom.

00:43:05.780 --> 00:43:09.100
On the other hand, he says, hey, you want to do well?

00:43:09.100 --> 00:43:10.460
Steward time well and I'll show you

00:43:10.460 --> 00:43:11.820
how to increase in wisdom.

00:43:14.180 --> 00:43:17.740
Fourth, how do you create time?

00:43:17.740 --> 00:43:18.580
Redeem it.

00:43:21.020 --> 00:43:25.180
Redeem it as in, buy it back, buy it back.

00:43:25.180 --> 00:43:29.740
Buy, not bite back, buy it back.

00:43:30.860 --> 00:43:31.740
What do you mean?

00:43:31.740 --> 00:43:34.660
Find out the things that you are being idle in,

00:43:34.660 --> 00:43:35.620
purposeless in.

00:43:40.100 --> 00:43:44.100
Find ways to unstuck yourself.

00:43:46.380 --> 00:43:48.700
Find ways to unstuck yourself.

00:43:52.220 --> 00:43:53.340
Redeem time.

00:43:53.340 --> 00:43:55.460
Redeem time is to buy it back.

00:43:55.460 --> 00:43:57.060
What are you idle in?

00:43:57.060 --> 00:43:58.900
What's the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

00:43:58.900 --> 00:43:59.740
Facebook?

00:44:01.180 --> 00:44:03.700
Just one last look through it.

00:44:03.700 --> 00:44:05.260
You've looked through it 18 times already

00:44:05.260 --> 00:44:06.100
in the last three hours,

00:44:06.100 --> 00:44:08.100
and you've looked through it 18 times already

00:44:08.260 --> 00:44:09.460
in the last three hours,

00:44:09.460 --> 00:44:10.340
but before going to bed,

00:44:10.340 --> 00:44:12.300
surely someone must have said something.

00:44:12.300 --> 00:44:13.300
Go through it again.

00:44:18.180 --> 00:44:20.220
Buy back time from idleness.

00:44:20.220 --> 00:44:23.260
Buy back time from stuff that I do

00:44:23.260 --> 00:44:25.580
that's absolutely purposeless.

00:44:25.580 --> 00:44:27.820
You know, there are things that we do

00:44:27.820 --> 00:44:29.620
that are absolutely wasteful.

00:44:30.820 --> 00:44:35.140
Waste some time, but don't waste time on wasteful stuff.

00:44:35.140 --> 00:44:36.860
Waste some stuff.

00:44:36.860 --> 00:44:37.700
You think there's some stuff

00:44:37.700 --> 00:44:40.220
that is just absolutely wasteful.

00:44:40.220 --> 00:44:43.460
Watching Hannity, and then watching,

00:44:43.460 --> 00:44:44.740
if you watch Fox News,

00:44:44.740 --> 00:44:48.060
over and over again, the same news again and again.

00:44:48.060 --> 00:44:48.900
Wasteful.

00:44:51.740 --> 00:44:55.060
Watching three hours of a game you know you're gonna lose.

00:44:57.980 --> 00:44:59.420
Wasteful.

00:44:59.420 --> 00:45:01.900
Watching the Leafs in the playoffs.

00:45:01.900 --> 00:45:03.500
Absolutely wasteful.

00:45:03.820 --> 00:45:06.060
How does that make it look in the playoffs?

00:45:06.060 --> 00:45:07.500
We never make the playoffs.

00:45:09.300 --> 00:45:11.700
Playoffs are like seven game series.

00:45:11.700 --> 00:45:13.060
I mean the Leafs, it's worse,

00:45:13.060 --> 00:45:15.180
because they go to the seventh game and lose.

00:45:15.180 --> 00:45:17.860
You've now watched seven days.

00:45:17.860 --> 00:45:19.460
You don't know how difficult it is.

00:45:19.460 --> 00:45:20.700
Well, we'll take a look at the question,

00:45:20.700 --> 00:45:22.740
and then we'll actually give it another.

00:45:22.740 --> 00:45:23.580
Pardon?

00:45:23.580 --> 00:45:24.420
We'll actually give it another.

00:45:24.420 --> 00:45:25.620
Yeah, yeah, I don't watch a full game.

00:45:25.620 --> 00:45:26.820
I just watch the first 10 minutes,

00:45:26.820 --> 00:45:28.100
and I know where it's heading.

00:45:28.100 --> 00:45:29.260
Then I check the score.

00:45:29.260 --> 00:45:30.420
What's the score?

00:45:30.420 --> 00:45:31.260
What's the score?

00:45:31.260 --> 00:45:32.100
What's the score?

00:45:32.100 --> 00:45:32.940
What's the score?

00:45:32.940 --> 00:45:34.620
And if I go and actually watch a game,

00:45:34.620 --> 00:45:36.300
I never stay till the end.

00:45:36.300 --> 00:45:38.180
There is no last minute Hail Mary

00:45:38.180 --> 00:45:39.980
that's gonna happen with the Canucks.

00:45:41.620 --> 00:45:45.580
Nobody knows how much I prayed at the finals in 2011

00:45:45.580 --> 00:45:46.420
for a miracle.

00:45:51.620 --> 00:45:52.660
How do I create time?

00:45:52.660 --> 00:45:53.500
Redeem.

00:45:56.260 --> 00:45:57.580
Last one, how do I create time?

00:45:57.580 --> 00:45:58.860
Beware.

00:45:58.900 --> 00:46:03.300
Beware of what we talked about last time, mental drift.

00:46:04.980 --> 00:46:06.580
Mental drift.

00:46:06.580 --> 00:46:10.700
Mental drift is when you just start praying

00:46:10.700 --> 00:46:14.220
and either something legit gets your mind

00:46:14.220 --> 00:46:17.700
or you have a busyness that begins to occupy your mind

00:46:17.700 --> 00:46:20.180
or you're unable to concentrate.

00:46:20.180 --> 00:46:23.460
There's weariness, there's tiredness.

00:46:23.460 --> 00:46:26.180
Mental drift is when you begin with God

00:46:26.180 --> 00:46:28.940
and you either can't make any progress

00:46:28.940 --> 00:46:31.260
because there are 100 different thoughts

00:46:31.260 --> 00:46:34.020
that are demanding equal time,

00:46:34.020 --> 00:46:36.180
and it's called mental drift.

00:46:36.180 --> 00:46:39.540
And it is a disease that is common across this room.

00:46:41.620 --> 00:46:44.580
You say beware of it, so what do you do about it?

00:46:44.580 --> 00:46:47.060
One of the ways you change mental drift

00:46:47.060 --> 00:46:49.780
is by going after your mind that is wandering.

00:46:51.100 --> 00:46:55.900
So one of the examples someone taught me long ago was,

00:46:56.580 --> 00:46:58.500
if you have a $100 note in your pocket

00:46:59.420 --> 00:47:02.420
and it flies out of your pocket, what do you do?

00:47:03.420 --> 00:47:05.660
You go running after it and you pick it up

00:47:05.660 --> 00:47:07.260
and you put it back in your pocket.

00:47:07.260 --> 00:47:09.460
But it happens a second time.

00:47:09.460 --> 00:47:10.540
What do you do?

00:47:10.540 --> 00:47:12.540
You still go after it, you pick it and bring it back.

00:47:12.540 --> 00:47:14.220
It happens a third time, what do you do?

00:47:14.220 --> 00:47:18.300
Do you say, hmm, that note looks like it needs to be free?

00:47:18.300 --> 00:47:19.420
No.

00:47:19.420 --> 00:47:22.340
You go back a third time

00:47:22.340 --> 00:47:24.540
before someone else takes its freedom away.

00:47:25.420 --> 00:47:28.700
And you go take it and put it back in your wallet.

00:47:28.700 --> 00:47:30.820
When it comes to a $100 bill,

00:47:30.820 --> 00:47:33.060
you will go after it as many times

00:47:33.060 --> 00:47:34.620
as it flies out of your pocket.

00:47:36.500 --> 00:47:40.820
When my mind wanders, the way we combat mental drift

00:47:40.820 --> 00:47:44.500
is in the beginning by going after it as many times,

00:47:44.500 --> 00:47:48.100
because it's only a mind that's wandering, bring it back.

00:47:48.100 --> 00:47:50.060
This is part of 2 Corinthians 10,

00:47:50.940 --> 00:47:53.700
which talks about bringing into submission

00:47:53.700 --> 00:47:56.300
every thought, every reasoning, every argument,

00:47:56.300 --> 00:47:58.300
every lofty thing that raises itself up

00:47:58.300 --> 00:47:59.580
against the knowledge of God,

00:47:59.580 --> 00:48:02.780
bringing it into submission to Christ, bring it back.

00:48:07.220 --> 00:48:08.820
And over a period of time,

00:48:08.820 --> 00:48:12.580
you will find that it doesn't wander as much.

00:48:12.580 --> 00:48:15.140
It's only a matter of creating a habit, guys.

00:48:15.260 --> 00:48:17.220
Remember when you had to chew food 32 times?

00:48:18.740 --> 00:48:21.180
Oh, okay, this was when I was a kid.

00:48:21.180 --> 00:48:23.300
You had to chew food 32 times.

00:48:24.620 --> 00:48:26.940
I had only 28 teeth at that time.

00:48:30.580 --> 00:48:32.340
Still have only 28.

00:48:32.340 --> 00:48:33.780
So that's a different story.

00:48:35.900 --> 00:48:39.340
Beware of mental drift and beware of satanic attacks

00:48:39.340 --> 00:48:40.860
when you sit down.

00:48:40.860 --> 00:48:43.740
Beware of satanic attacks when you sit down.

00:48:43.780 --> 00:48:46.220
When you sit down to

00:48:49.100 --> 00:48:51.460
spend devotional time with God.

00:48:51.460 --> 00:48:55.940
Satan aborts prayer time by bringing in sleepiness,

00:48:55.940 --> 00:48:57.940
stupor, and distractions.

00:48:57.940 --> 00:48:59.820
Stupor is actually a spirit.

00:48:59.820 --> 00:49:01.980
Bible talks about a spirit of stupor,

00:49:01.980 --> 00:49:03.700
where everything is fine

00:49:03.700 --> 00:49:06.900
till you begin to read the Bible and or focus on God.

00:49:06.900 --> 00:49:09.020
And then there's this dullness that takes over

00:49:09.020 --> 00:49:11.860
where your mind doesn't even want to connect.

00:49:11.860 --> 00:49:13.820
It's like your mind doesn't want to connect.

00:49:13.820 --> 00:49:16.140
Mind doesn't even want to engage God.

00:49:16.140 --> 00:49:18.060
And it's very hard.

00:49:18.060 --> 00:49:21.260
One of the fascinating things that I find about airplanes,

00:49:21.260 --> 00:49:22.740
and you might see a connection

00:49:22.740 --> 00:49:24.340
when I get to the end of the story,

00:49:24.340 --> 00:49:29.340
is that they have those big rubber blocks, chunks

00:49:31.340 --> 00:49:33.780
that they take and put under the wheel of a plane.

00:49:33.780 --> 00:49:36.380
When the plane has come to a standstill,

00:49:37.260 --> 00:49:39.660
okay, this isn't going anywhere.

00:49:39.660 --> 00:49:42.060
You don't seem to know about these rubber blocks.

00:49:45.500 --> 00:49:47.140
Yeah, you put it there,

00:49:47.140 --> 00:49:50.180
and the strange thing is you can gun that plane

00:49:50.180 --> 00:49:51.300
as much as you want,

00:49:51.300 --> 00:49:53.540
and it will not be able to go forward.

00:49:53.540 --> 00:49:57.020
All it is is this bigger chunk of rubber.

00:49:57.020 --> 00:49:58.060
That's it.

00:49:58.060 --> 00:50:00.540
But despite the fact that this can carry

00:50:00.540 --> 00:50:02.140
thousands of tons in flight,

00:50:02.140 --> 00:50:05.300
it cannot get over that small little block,

00:50:05.300 --> 00:50:09.220
regardless of how hard you pump those engines.

00:50:09.260 --> 00:50:11.580
Sometimes these things are like that block.

00:50:11.580 --> 00:50:13.660
It doesn't matter how much power you have.

00:50:15.300 --> 00:50:18.540
If you are not able to get over that initial thing

00:50:18.540 --> 00:50:21.700
by just somehow deciding that,

00:50:21.700 --> 00:50:23.740
I will not allow this to stop me.

00:50:23.740 --> 00:50:25.060
Stupor is a spirit.

00:50:25.060 --> 00:50:26.300
It affects people.

00:50:26.300 --> 00:50:27.700
It's a satanic attack.

00:50:27.700 --> 00:50:29.540
Sleepiness is another thing.

00:50:30.700 --> 00:50:32.380
Soon as you begin to talk to God,

00:50:32.380 --> 00:50:34.060
you begin to fall asleep.

00:50:34.060 --> 00:50:35.380
Distraction is another thing.

00:50:35.380 --> 00:50:37.180
Sleepiness and distractions can be overcome.

00:50:37.180 --> 00:50:38.980
Find a time when you're not sleepy.

00:50:41.700 --> 00:50:43.140
I'm a night person.

00:50:43.140 --> 00:50:46.900
I just love having devotional times

00:50:46.900 --> 00:50:48.180
just before I go to bed.

00:50:48.180 --> 00:50:49.380
Good luck with that then.

00:50:54.900 --> 00:50:55.740
Okay.

00:50:57.180 --> 00:50:58.780
Now we answer the next question.

00:51:03.380 --> 00:51:05.940
What should our quiet time

00:51:05.940 --> 00:51:08.340
or devotional times involve?

00:51:10.540 --> 00:51:11.900
I have different names for them.

00:51:11.900 --> 00:51:14.300
You can choose whatever name you want.

00:51:14.300 --> 00:51:17.900
First thing that I try and practice is

00:51:18.900 --> 00:51:23.900
I try and figure out who I am in God,

00:51:28.140 --> 00:51:32.260
who he is to me,

00:51:33.260 --> 00:51:38.260
who he wants me to change into.

00:51:44.100 --> 00:51:47.340
And I begin to talk to him about it,

00:51:51.420 --> 00:51:54.700
seek his mind about it.

00:51:57.620 --> 00:51:58.820
That's the first thing.

00:52:00.580 --> 00:52:02.100
You may not have to follow this order,

00:52:02.940 --> 00:52:04.420
but I usually start with identity.

00:52:04.420 --> 00:52:06.140
I said, hey, Father, has it come to spend time

00:52:06.140 --> 00:52:07.060
with you right now?

00:52:07.060 --> 00:52:09.020
It's gonna be very intentional time.

00:52:09.020 --> 00:52:11.820
Can I remind myself of who you see me as?

00:52:11.820 --> 00:52:14.180
Because that gives me a confidence of approaching you.

00:52:14.180 --> 00:52:17.020
Sometimes it might just be this idea of sinking

00:52:17.020 --> 00:52:19.900
into that absolute confidence of being a much loved child.

00:52:19.900 --> 00:52:21.500
Sometimes it is more than that.

00:52:22.740 --> 00:52:25.980
But it is important for me to know who I approach you as.

00:52:25.980 --> 00:52:29.660
You told me to approach the throne

00:52:29.660 --> 00:52:31.740
with boldness, with confidence.

00:52:31.780 --> 00:52:33.820
Well then, how do I approach you today?

00:52:33.820 --> 00:52:38.020
And as I come to you, who do you want me to see you as?

00:52:38.020 --> 00:52:40.260
Do I come running into your arms as Father,

00:52:40.260 --> 00:52:43.700
or do I come with an odd kind of reverence

00:52:43.700 --> 00:52:45.260
because today you're a commander?

00:52:45.260 --> 00:52:46.900
How do you want me to approach you?

00:52:46.900 --> 00:52:49.700
Do you want me to come to you asking for help

00:52:49.700 --> 00:52:51.620
or based on the songs we sang today,

00:52:51.620 --> 00:52:54.380
do I approach you as one who has tremendous faith

00:52:54.380 --> 00:52:56.580
to do whatever you say you said you will do

00:52:56.580 --> 00:52:59.500
and to stand and show the world that you can do it?

00:52:59.500 --> 00:53:02.940
I think part of everyday devotional times

00:53:02.940 --> 00:53:05.260
is to establish your identity

00:53:05.260 --> 00:53:07.260
and try to do that early in the day

00:53:07.260 --> 00:53:09.820
so that the rest of the day can be faced that way.

00:53:10.900 --> 00:53:12.900
Sometimes what I have here

00:53:12.900 --> 00:53:14.940
may take you the entire day to get through.

00:53:14.940 --> 00:53:16.500
It's only five things,

00:53:16.500 --> 00:53:17.780
but these five things may take you

00:53:17.780 --> 00:53:19.500
the entire day to get through.

00:53:19.500 --> 00:53:20.700
But perhaps two months from now

00:53:20.700 --> 00:53:23.220
you can get through it in three hours.

00:53:23.220 --> 00:53:25.820
Three hours in a day, Jacob, are you nuts?

00:53:25.820 --> 00:53:26.660
Yep.

00:53:29.500 --> 00:53:30.900
That's just one hockey game.

00:53:42.180 --> 00:53:44.580
But Jacob, I don't have three hours.

00:53:44.580 --> 00:53:45.820
You'll be poorer for it.

00:53:48.300 --> 00:53:49.780
Put first things first

00:53:49.780 --> 00:53:51.420
and you will get the second also.

00:53:51.420 --> 00:53:52.700
Put second things first

00:53:52.700 --> 00:53:54.900
and you will not get the first or the second.

00:53:56.140 --> 00:53:57.820
Put first things first.

00:53:57.860 --> 00:53:59.020
Put first things first.

00:53:59.020 --> 00:54:00.900
C.S. Lewis, put first things first

00:54:00.900 --> 00:54:02.340
and you will get the second also.

00:54:02.340 --> 00:54:03.460
Put second things first

00:54:03.460 --> 00:54:06.020
and you will get neither the first nor the second.

00:54:11.220 --> 00:54:13.060
So this time that I spent, sometimes,

00:54:13.060 --> 00:54:16.500
so what about women who have a nursing baby?

00:54:16.500 --> 00:54:20.740
What about someone who has twins and two more children?

00:54:20.740 --> 00:54:21.820
What about times like that?

00:54:21.820 --> 00:54:24.980
What do you do when there are legitimate cries

00:54:24.980 --> 00:54:27.420
for food and feeding and all that stuff?

00:54:27.460 --> 00:54:28.660
Here's the odd thing.

00:54:28.660 --> 00:54:30.380
You are devoting time.

00:54:30.380 --> 00:54:31.780
Once you devote time,

00:54:31.780 --> 00:54:34.060
a guy like me may be able to spend three hours,

00:54:34.060 --> 00:54:36.260
you may be able to spend 15 minutes.

00:54:36.260 --> 00:54:39.300
You will get in 15 minutes what I get in three hours.

00:54:39.300 --> 00:54:40.140
Why?

00:54:40.140 --> 00:54:42.620
Because God looks at the time that has been devoted

00:54:42.620 --> 00:54:44.260
in the middle of feeding a baby,

00:54:44.260 --> 00:54:46.140
in the middle of juggling the second one

00:54:46.140 --> 00:54:48.300
and holding the third one before it falls,

00:54:48.300 --> 00:54:49.940
you spend five minutes

00:54:49.940 --> 00:54:51.980
and those five minutes are far more effective

00:54:51.980 --> 00:54:53.660
than the 20 minutes that I spent.

00:54:54.700 --> 00:54:56.420
This is God we are talking about.

00:54:56.420 --> 00:54:58.740
The one who lives in timelessness.

00:54:58.740 --> 00:55:02.340
The one who brings up accents to the surface of the water.

00:55:02.340 --> 00:55:04.140
This is the one we are talking about.

00:55:06.420 --> 00:55:10.700
But he sees it based on knowing the demands

00:55:10.700 --> 00:55:12.060
on your time, Jacob.

00:55:12.060 --> 00:55:13.620
What are you devoting to me?

00:55:13.620 --> 00:55:15.340
And that will require sacrifice.

00:55:15.340 --> 00:55:17.340
For a mother who is feeding,

00:55:17.340 --> 00:55:19.700
to be able to do something like this,

00:55:19.700 --> 00:55:21.020
it requires a sacrifice.

00:55:21.020 --> 00:55:22.420
What's your sacrifice?

00:55:22.420 --> 00:55:25.580
Devotion always means sacrifice

00:55:25.580 --> 00:55:27.660
because it's a setting apart of time.

00:55:30.580 --> 00:55:32.780
It must sting, it must cost,

00:55:32.780 --> 00:55:34.540
it must be painful to give,

00:55:34.540 --> 00:55:38.420
it must cause you to give up something to have something.

00:55:38.420 --> 00:55:41.220
If that is not there, then you must know

00:55:41.220 --> 00:55:42.940
that our prayers are a pittance

00:55:42.940 --> 00:55:45.500
and they are pretty useless for a church like this.

00:55:45.500 --> 00:55:47.300
And I'd like to say to us as a church,

00:55:47.300 --> 00:55:49.540
and I'm the pastor and I'm starting with me,

00:55:49.540 --> 00:55:54.540
is that we in this church do not sacrifice time

00:55:55.540 --> 00:55:56.940
in terms of prayer.

00:55:58.900 --> 00:56:01.140
The grace of God was sufficient as now.

00:56:02.780 --> 00:56:06.180
Now it might require a bit of extra work.

00:56:08.180 --> 00:56:11.180
And I'm not saying that we should not sacrifice time

00:56:11.180 --> 00:56:12.500
in terms of prayer.

00:56:12.660 --> 00:56:14.820
It might require a bit of extra work.

00:56:19.500 --> 00:56:20.460
Okay, the next one.

00:56:23.460 --> 00:56:26.700
I call it dispatch, you can call it anything you want.

00:56:26.700 --> 00:56:28.460
Dispatch is when I begin to,

00:56:28.460 --> 00:56:30.500
it's like a guy who dispatches messages,

00:56:30.500 --> 00:56:35.020
so it'll be, okay, pray for Derek,

00:56:35.940 --> 00:56:39.060
or pray for someone's surgery,

00:56:39.060 --> 00:56:41.580
or pray for someone's need.

00:56:41.580 --> 00:56:44.700
These are things that God puts in your heart and mind

00:56:44.700 --> 00:56:45.820
to do for others.

00:56:45.820 --> 00:56:48.740
Dispatch, dispatch prayers.

00:56:48.740 --> 00:56:51.460
Someone has a need, pray for their need.

00:56:51.460 --> 00:56:53.100
And don't take too much.

00:56:53.100 --> 00:56:55.980
Just remember the ones you're supposed to pray for.

00:56:55.980 --> 00:56:57.540
Start with three or four.

00:56:57.540 --> 00:56:58.620
These are the three things, Father,

00:56:58.620 --> 00:57:00.060
that I come to you and appeal to you.

00:57:00.060 --> 00:57:01.380
I'm gonna spend time over it

00:57:01.380 --> 00:57:03.780
so that I actually can figure out what you want.

00:57:06.380 --> 00:57:07.700
Someone comes and says, pray for me.

00:57:07.700 --> 00:57:08.780
Oh, Jesus, I just pray for them.

00:57:08.780 --> 00:57:09.700
Please make them well.

00:57:09.700 --> 00:57:10.820
That's not a prayer.

00:57:10.820 --> 00:57:12.780
That's getting rid of a responsibility.

00:57:19.260 --> 00:57:21.140
The other amazing way to do all these prayers is,

00:57:21.140 --> 00:57:23.420
Father, for all the known requests and unknown requests

00:57:23.420 --> 00:57:24.500
of all the people in the church,

00:57:24.500 --> 00:57:25.780
I now bring them before you.

00:57:25.780 --> 00:57:27.860
Oh, Father, you know their hearts, you know their minds,

00:57:27.860 --> 00:57:29.100
you know their unspoken requests.

00:57:29.100 --> 00:57:31.020
Meet them in the name of Jesus Christ.

00:57:31.020 --> 00:57:32.460
70 people done in one shot.

00:57:33.300 --> 00:57:34.260
That's not prayer.

00:57:36.980 --> 00:57:38.380
That's just being pastoral.

00:57:41.100 --> 00:57:41.940
Third one.

00:57:43.460 --> 00:57:45.660
There are certain things given to you to steward.

00:57:46.540 --> 00:57:48.020
Spend time over that.

00:57:48.020 --> 00:57:50.420
There are certain things given to you to steward.

00:57:51.260 --> 00:57:52.620
As in, he's given you charge

00:57:53.940 --> 00:57:55.980
or he was given you responsibility.

00:58:00.460 --> 00:58:03.180
Well then, hone in on those.

00:58:03.180 --> 00:58:07.540
Ask for wisdom to rule well.

00:58:11.820 --> 00:58:13.460
It could be your office.

00:58:13.460 --> 00:58:15.140
It could be the ones that work under you.

00:58:15.140 --> 00:58:17.780
It could be your children.

00:58:17.780 --> 00:58:19.060
It could be a church.

00:58:19.060 --> 00:58:20.140
It could be a house church.

00:58:20.140 --> 00:58:22.740
Ask, Father, how do I do this?

00:58:22.740 --> 00:58:25.860
Solomon, man, when he was good, he was really, really good.

00:58:25.860 --> 00:58:28.020
When he was bad, he was lousy.

00:58:28.020 --> 00:58:29.980
But one of the times when he was good,

00:58:29.980 --> 00:58:30.820
he pressed his prayer.

00:58:30.820 --> 00:58:33.380
He says, oh God, these people,

00:58:33.380 --> 00:58:34.780
I don't know how to lead them.

00:58:35.780 --> 00:58:37.420
You're giving me a blank check saying,

00:58:37.420 --> 00:58:38.820
ask whatever you want.

00:58:38.820 --> 00:58:41.420
I can ask whatever I want, but here's what I ask for.

00:58:41.420 --> 00:58:43.500
Give me wisdom to rule these people.

00:58:49.860 --> 00:58:51.340
Your work, your business.

00:58:52.580 --> 00:58:54.100
Spend some time to...

00:58:54.100 --> 00:58:55.900
So this is something I...

00:58:55.900 --> 00:58:56.740
Yeah.

00:58:58.540 --> 00:58:59.380
Next one.

00:59:00.260 --> 00:59:01.100
Blueprint.

00:59:02.060 --> 00:59:02.900
Blueprint.

00:59:09.300 --> 00:59:14.300
How are you building what God has asked you to?

00:59:26.300 --> 00:59:28.860
And if you don't know what God has asked you to build,

00:59:29.700 --> 00:59:33.620
then that's part of getting the blueprint.

00:59:33.620 --> 00:59:35.940
It's Moses went up the mountain, 40 days,

00:59:35.940 --> 00:59:36.780
he got a blueprint.

00:59:36.780 --> 00:59:37.900
He came back, he did it.

00:59:39.020 --> 00:59:41.260
David, fascinating thing about David is

00:59:41.260 --> 00:59:43.140
we don't hear of him going up a mountain.

00:59:43.140 --> 00:59:44.660
We don't hear of him doing anything,

00:59:44.660 --> 00:59:46.140
but here's the statement he makes.

00:59:46.140 --> 00:59:47.300
And now I have built,

00:59:47.300 --> 00:59:50.900
now I have arranged for everything, my son Solomon,

00:59:50.900 --> 00:59:52.620
that you need for the temple.

00:59:52.620 --> 00:59:55.180
And you need to do it exactly according to the blueprint

00:59:55.180 --> 00:59:57.140
that was handed over to me by God.

00:59:57.140 --> 00:59:58.340
Where God handed it,

00:59:58.380 --> 01:00:00.300
how he handed it, nobody knows.

01:00:00.300 --> 01:00:01.780
But whatever you're building,

01:00:01.780 --> 01:00:05.260
be it Nick building a school for young kids

01:00:05.260 --> 01:00:07.300
in some remote nation,

01:00:07.300 --> 01:00:12.300
be it Dilna doing something in Wall-E,

01:00:12.380 --> 01:00:16.100
be it Dawn starting another Wall-E somewhere else,

01:00:16.100 --> 01:00:17.940
be it Jacob building something here

01:00:17.940 --> 01:00:19.140
or in some other nation.

01:00:20.860 --> 01:00:21.860
Doesn't matter who.

01:00:24.780 --> 01:00:25.660
What's the blueprint?

01:00:25.660 --> 01:00:26.980
How do you build this?

01:00:26.980 --> 01:00:27.820
Ask for it.

01:00:28.700 --> 01:00:30.620
And if you don't know what you're supposed to build,

01:00:30.620 --> 01:00:31.460
ask for that too.

01:00:31.460 --> 01:00:32.540
Surely you will not hear

01:00:32.540 --> 01:00:34.980
and place here on earth to attend a service.

01:00:40.140 --> 01:00:41.940
Blueprints are given through prayer.

01:00:43.300 --> 01:00:45.340
He spends an entire night in the mountains,

01:00:45.340 --> 01:00:48.820
comes down and there are hundreds and hundreds of people,

01:00:48.820 --> 01:00:49.780
but he's walking.

01:00:49.780 --> 01:00:51.060
And as he walks, he says,

01:00:51.060 --> 01:00:52.740
James, John, follow me.

01:00:52.740 --> 01:00:53.980
Peter, follow.

01:00:53.980 --> 01:00:55.780
Andrew, how's he picking them?

01:00:55.780 --> 01:00:57.300
What did he see that night?

01:00:57.300 --> 01:00:58.860
What did he see that night?

01:00:58.860 --> 01:01:00.860
He spent an entire night in the mountains.

01:01:00.860 --> 01:01:04.300
He comes back and he calls out 12 who are his apostles.

01:01:04.300 --> 01:01:07.300
And he also knows that one of them will betray him.

01:01:07.300 --> 01:01:09.060
How does he do this, man?

01:01:09.060 --> 01:01:11.980
I'm telling you, it's super simple, super simple.

01:01:13.660 --> 01:01:16.540
Super simple, a people that pray.

01:01:20.540 --> 01:01:21.700
Super simple.

01:01:22.540 --> 01:01:25.540
Your lives will change if I become this,

01:01:28.460 --> 01:01:30.620
which is an admission that it isn't.

01:01:32.260 --> 01:01:33.100
Yeah.

01:01:34.300 --> 01:01:35.140
Yeah.

01:01:35.140 --> 01:01:36.860
Last one, word.

01:01:39.060 --> 01:01:41.340
What should I discover from scriptures?

01:01:41.340 --> 01:01:43.460
What should I discover from scriptures?

01:01:52.500 --> 01:01:54.460
What should I discover from scriptures?

01:01:55.780 --> 01:01:56.620
What theme?

01:01:58.740 --> 01:01:59.580
What rama?

01:02:02.380 --> 01:02:06.060
As in a word that fits the occasion.

01:02:06.060 --> 01:02:06.900
What theme?

01:02:06.900 --> 01:02:07.740
What rama?

01:02:09.220 --> 01:02:11.140
What should I discover from scriptures?

01:02:14.260 --> 01:02:15.660
Start with those five guys.

01:02:15.660 --> 01:02:17.420
And then if you still don't know how to do,

01:02:17.420 --> 01:02:20.940
like I said last week, take Psalm 139,

01:02:20.940 --> 01:02:24.220
pray Psalm 139, take Ephesians 116 to 18,

01:02:24.220 --> 01:02:27.180
pray Ephesians 116 to 18, take Matthew 11,

01:02:27.180 --> 01:02:30.340
sorry, Matthew 6, go over the Lord's Prayer,

01:02:30.340 --> 01:02:32.660
take Psalm 23, go over it line by line.

01:02:32.660 --> 01:02:33.740
You won't make it.

01:02:35.180 --> 01:02:38.420
You won't even make it through one sentence a day.

01:02:38.420 --> 01:02:41.620
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

01:02:41.620 --> 01:02:42.820
You won't get through it.

01:02:45.460 --> 01:02:48.740
The Lord, shoot, he's my savior, he ain't my Lord yet.

01:02:48.740 --> 01:02:49.740
You get stuck there.

01:02:49.740 --> 01:02:51.220
He is my shepherd, really?

01:02:53.540 --> 01:02:56.700
I shall not want, my God, I want, I want, I want, I want.

01:02:58.500 --> 01:03:00.100
Psalm 23 will take you a month.

01:03:02.660 --> 01:03:03.500
Psalm 91.

01:03:11.020 --> 01:03:11.860
Can we pray?

01:03:16.060 --> 01:03:16.900
Sure.

01:03:17.900 --> 01:03:20.700
In number five, what should I explore in scriptures?

01:03:20.700 --> 01:03:23.300
Is that sort of like, is this like a

01:03:23.300 --> 01:03:25.740
consecutive thing or is this what you're doing

01:03:25.740 --> 01:03:26.780
the entire time?

01:03:26.780 --> 01:03:30.660
I try and get these five things in every day.

01:03:30.660 --> 01:03:33.980
I sometimes make it a three, sometimes a four,

01:03:33.980 --> 01:03:37.300
but try and go through this every day.

01:03:37.300 --> 01:03:39.740
And so scriptures should be part of it.

01:03:39.740 --> 01:03:43.340
And some scriptures deliberate intentional reading,

01:03:43.340 --> 01:03:46.820
some scriptures reading.

01:03:49.100 --> 01:03:52.300
But I think it's important to start with the identity part.

01:03:52.300 --> 01:03:54.500
By identity, you're not trying to say,

01:03:54.500 --> 01:03:58.180
Jesus, I'm a champion in you, not that kind of stuff.

01:03:58.180 --> 01:04:01.700
Hasn't, can I for a second think of who,

01:04:01.700 --> 01:04:03.380
how you think of me?

01:04:03.380 --> 01:04:07.180
It just lifts you up or pulls you down and fits you in.

01:04:08.060 --> 01:04:10.020
Start there, man.

01:04:10.020 --> 01:04:10.860
Let's pray.

01:04:12.020 --> 01:04:15.420
Father, I just ask by the power of the Spirit of God

01:04:15.420 --> 01:04:19.420
that you would help this church get into a habit

01:04:19.420 --> 01:04:24.420
of intentional devoted prayer.

01:04:24.900 --> 01:04:29.900
I ask that you would help me become someone

01:04:30.660 --> 01:04:33.980
who can accomplish this day after day after day,

01:04:33.980 --> 01:04:35.700
regardless of what you do.

01:04:35.740 --> 01:04:38.100
I ask that you would help me become someone

01:04:38.100 --> 01:04:39.860
who can accomplish this day after day,

01:04:39.860 --> 01:04:41.420
regardless of what's happening in my life,

01:04:41.420 --> 01:04:43.100
whether I'm traveling, whether I'm not,

01:04:43.100 --> 01:04:45.340
whether I'm in town, whether I'm out of town,

01:04:45.340 --> 01:04:48.300
that this would become a practice for me

01:04:48.300 --> 01:04:50.340
for the rest of my days here on earth.

01:04:50.340 --> 01:04:51.180
Why?

01:04:51.180 --> 01:04:52.860
Not so that I get stronger,

01:04:52.860 --> 01:04:55.220
but so that everybody around me benefit.

01:04:56.180 --> 01:04:58.220
I desire that for myself.

01:04:58.220 --> 01:05:00.620
Having desired that for myself,

01:05:00.620 --> 01:05:05.620
I desire the same thing for everyone here, everyone here.

01:05:05.780 --> 01:05:07.380
There have been promises given.

01:05:07.380 --> 01:05:09.820
God of Abraham, God of covenant,

01:05:09.820 --> 01:05:11.340
there have been promises given.

01:05:11.340 --> 01:05:14.660
You are not short on fulfilling things.

01:05:14.660 --> 01:05:17.180
But sometimes if you wanna send a harvest,

01:05:17.180 --> 01:05:22.180
one needs to build a barn or a granary to handle the harvest.

01:05:25.340 --> 01:05:27.500
This is one way to construct a granary

01:05:27.500 --> 01:05:30.340
so that when the harvest comes in, it'll be storable.

01:05:30.340 --> 01:05:33.100
There'll be harvesters, there'll be laborers.

01:05:33.140 --> 01:05:36.500
Jesus, I ask by the power of the Spirit of God,

01:05:36.500 --> 01:05:38.940
because there's nothing else that can accomplish this.

01:05:38.940 --> 01:05:42.340
The flesh, the Spirit is willing,

01:05:42.340 --> 01:05:44.060
but the flesh has been weak.

01:05:45.660 --> 01:05:47.700
The Spirit is willing, the flesh is weak.

01:05:47.700 --> 01:05:50.460
Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus Christ,

01:05:50.460 --> 01:05:53.940
could you cause a deep desire, hunger?

01:05:53.940 --> 01:05:56.660
Could you cause something to fall upon us,

01:05:56.660 --> 01:05:59.940
our hearts, our minds, our hands, our feet,

01:05:59.940 --> 01:06:02.900
something upon us, upon our mortal bodies

01:06:03.380 --> 01:06:08.380
that will not be able to escape the pressure

01:06:08.780 --> 01:06:11.380
of cultivating this habit?

01:06:11.380 --> 01:06:14.180
Give us a head start, give us a head start.

01:06:14.180 --> 01:06:15.700
Give us that extra boost.

01:06:16.660 --> 01:06:18.940
We need help with the start.

01:06:19.980 --> 01:06:22.700
Please, oh God, we do that for children.

01:06:22.700 --> 01:06:25.260
We help them begin their first few steps.

01:06:25.260 --> 01:06:28.340
Spirit of God, please, for us, give us a head start.

01:06:28.340 --> 01:06:30.620
Give us that boost we need.

01:06:30.620 --> 01:06:32.820
Help us to create this habit.

01:06:33.740 --> 01:06:35.620
I ask this, we ask this.

01:06:35.620 --> 01:06:37.380
There are hungry people here

01:06:37.380 --> 01:06:39.340
who have failed again and again.

01:06:39.340 --> 01:06:42.660
We come to start again, for your namesake,

01:06:42.660 --> 01:06:44.460
for the sake of King and Kingdom,

01:06:44.460 --> 01:06:46.100
for the sake of others in the world,

01:06:46.100 --> 01:06:49.220
for the sake of all the promises you have given this church,

01:06:49.220 --> 01:06:51.060
all the things you're looking forward to accomplish.

01:06:51.060 --> 01:06:52.860
One more time, oh God, do it again.

01:06:52.860 --> 01:06:54.820
One more time, do it again, oh God.

01:06:55.980 --> 01:06:58.500
Renew it, Jesus, renew it, I pray.

01:06:59.820 --> 01:07:02.700
As a people, as a people,

01:07:03.540 --> 01:07:04.780
in Jesus' name, amen.

01:07:05.740 --> 01:07:06.580
Thank you, guys.

01:07:08.420 --> 01:07:10.260
Pleasure.
