We are first and foremost “sons.”
In God’s eyes, we are first His much-loved children. He does everything as a much-loving father. How do we know this? He sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our salvation–which means we can have a personal relationship with God and have 24/7 complete access to Him. Nothing, not sin or death, can destroy or take that away! And if He does everything as a much-loving father, then everything we do has to be as much-loved children.
And then we are sent to serve.
Jesus is the ultimate example of being a son before a servant. He was confident in his primary identity as a much-loved son of God. He also knew that he was sent by his father to do his will. He didn’t come to be served but to serve God and others.
Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. It started when God said, “Light up the darkness!” and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful.
If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us.” (2 Cor 4:5-7 MSG)
